New Dawn Gardens

New Dawn Gardens did a fantastic job repairing years of neglect of our lawn and landscaping. We recently moved into the property and it needed a lot of work. They did an amazing job edging beds, mulching, trimming trees and shrubs, etc. I was extremely pleased with the outcome and am much happier about my property as a result.

I thought the work itself was excellent and the owner was very knowledgeable and helpful. My one reservation is that we asked him to do some follow up work and he never got back to us with quotes or attempted to schedule future work.

See above. Thoroughly satisfied and exceeded my expectations. I recommend them with no reservations.

My wife was home and said they came and the front and back yard. Cleaned out all the old stuff form the yard. I would definitely suggest them if you had yard work to be done.

It was good. They were prompt and very efficient. They did a great job. Scheduling was fine.

The service was okay, but like many Big Deals, it expanded into more work than the deal and I felt that I got charged a high rate for the additional work. In the end, the work they did was fine. I just think that they are a little bit high priced. He was very prompt. I was able to connect with him and we had gone and met at a convenient time. So, the time that he came out was not an issue. I think it did take one or two tries to get through to him to set-up a convenient time. Because we determined more work, I think I ended up spending a thousand dollars with him, but he did additional work beyond what was in the Big Deal. In the end, I thought he was expensive. So, I have not used them again. I think he is very knowledgeable and I think the work he did was good work.

Richard and his team did excellent work. They arrived exactly on schedule, worked quickly and neatly, and did everything and more than we discussed. I should note that there work was done at a coupon price and it was a true value! The team was professional, efficient and very nice. They allowed me to follow them so I learned a lot that will help me to better maintain my garden on my own. Richard and I discussed a spring plan of action which I intend to hire them to implement. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

Richard is friendly, knowledgeable, responsive, flexible and happy to share his expertise in landscaping -- I learned a lot. Work was done on time and thoroughly, with consultation at each step; communication to set up appointment times was excellent. Workers were polite and careful, cleanup excellent. Would use again.

No work was completed. The service estimate far exceeded (3x) estimates I've received from other vendors.

Richard, Lawrence, and their crew were very helpful. They were professional, competent, kindhearted. Richard answered all of my many questions, and gave excellent advice. His work has made a tremendous difference in the once-complicated back yard of my house. He did a great job and I recommend him.

It went great. They were easy to reach, easy to schedule, on time, professional and easy to work with.

They provided a fall cleanup of my yard & consultation on future landscaping possibilities. They did a very nice and thorough job and I was very pleased with the work.

FINALLY a provider who knows what he is talking about!!!! And fully supervises his workers. Mr. Miller really knows his plants, seasons, design, grading and placement. He is great and I can't wait for his return in spring. I used an Angies List $292 coupon, and it was worth every penny and more!

Richard was friendly and professional. He did a good job although, when I got the initial bill for his services, it was higher than I expected and I had to remind him of the Angie's List coupon. We agreed that he would keep the garden in order on a monthly basis. When I received the invoice for the 2nd month of maintenance, it was even higher than the first month of clean up. When I shared this with Richard he would not back down and maintained that it was reasonable for maintenance costs to be even higher than the initial clean up. His invoice included crews of 4 men coming to my house to water, "train plants", and maintain the garden. The worst was yet to come, he charged me twice for the same flowers. And when he charged me the second time, the price doubled. Fortunately, I saved all of his invoices or it would have been a problem. He does good work but he charges a lot and his invoicing is terrible. I agreed to pay him half of the maintenance invoice and we parted ways.

New Dawn Gardens were great! On time, friendly, committed, hard working. What more can you ask for? My backyard looked like a Jurassic Park movie set. In 3 hours, NDG transformed the space. Wow! Some folks say it's impossible to find great providers in DC. Not true! Already setting up my next appointment.

The crew deserve an A. I was under the impression that the $292.00 that I paid was the complete cost for "THE BIG DEAL" however, I received an invoice from the owner, Richard Miller, for a whopping $625.00. Therefore, my "BIG DEAL" experience was not very good at all. The (F) reviews is for the owner, Richard Miller.

This is the 3rd time I have used them and will continue to use them for Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter cleanup

The owner contacted me fairly promptly but was late for his first appointment. I got the sense that he's too busy serving other clients to deal with me. When he did show up, however, he was very friendly; it was the follow up and follow through that wasn't all that great. I thought I was going to get more help on the design aspect according to the big deal - but we never talked about the design. 3 guys did the cleanup in the big deal time limit but it was clear that the owner hadn't relayed to them what I'd wanted done. They were 2 hrs late, too. A few weeks go by, and I get a hard copy receipt for $100. I wasn't sure what it was for but I never heard from them again.

There was a lot more than four hours of work that needed to be done. They were here for 6 hours with Richard Miller, head of the company, staying and working for 3.5 hrs. also. My lawn was littered with leaves and small branches. The flower beds needed weeding, mulching and had to be edged. They did a wonderful job on all of the tasks. Richard is very knowledgeable and offered good tips and advice on the plantings in our yard. This company is located in DC. It is a long way to travel back and forth for two hours of work. Richard was trying to schedule it with someone else located near here. He had a cancellation and asked if he could come the next day which was fine by me. They arrived about 11 am. He asked if I wanted him to stay longer to complete more of the work and I agreed. I never thought it would be 6 hrs. I was a bit shocked at the charge of an additional $633. In the future I will look more closely at any deals before taking advantage of one. .

IT DID NOT GO. IT TOOK MORE THAN TWO WEEKS FOR ANGIE'S LIST TO MAKE A REFUND.

We could not schedule service in a time frame that would work. He wanted to "bundle me" with other jobs to make it more cost-effective for him. The weeds in my garden kept growing, which means that I would have to pay him more on an hourly basis because he kept putting off service. Not worth it. I really wanted it to work, as I wanted somebody to come and give me advice about my garden and wanted to have landscaping and long-term planning done, in addition to short-term weeding....oh, well.

I did ask them to call me and they never did. They did finally respond to me that they do not service my area. So I am requesting a refund.

Richard was extremely knowledgeable about the best plants for the lighting and soil conditions. The crew did a wonderful job pruning and removing small dead bushes/trees. Overall, I would highly recommend them.

They took forever to get back to us.

Richard Miller was very prompt in answering my many questions. He offered suggestions on how to make the process simpler and more successful. It took a while to get the job done but that was due in large part to the weather, and to it being spring when everyone has jobs to be done. Now, however, comes the complicated part which I can see has been a problem with others that used this same contractor. This is the reason I am revising my review. About a month after completion of my project I received a rather large bill from New Dawn Gardens. They are now trying to charge me for an extra person, extra time, and hauling off debris. All without asking me ahead of time. They also are not crediting me with the total cost of my Angies list deal. I never received a call, prior to the work being done, that they were going to take an extra person. Nor did I receive a call that two hours would not be enough. My deal was 2 hours with two workers. (Mind you, I had contacted Richard Miller before buying the deal to see if they could do the job within the confines of the deal, and I was told they could.) I never received a call that debris would need to be hauled away, for an additional expense. I also do not understand at all why they are not accepting the total amount of the Angies deal. They did the job to my satisfaction but I would not use them again as they were not upfront with me about additional costs. Please get your job in writing if you chose to use this contractor. ***I believe this problem has been resolved as I have heard no more after the Complaint Resolution Team from Angies List got involved.
