Keith Roofing

Description of Work: We had a roof leaking in mid-December after some heavy rains. Mr. Keith came out the next day and inspected the roof, took photos to show us the problems and what needed to be fixed. He provided us the cost /estimate at that time also. His workers came out within a day or two and re-roofed the flat portion of our roof. They were finished with the work in about 2 1/2 hours. Mr. Keith also followed up with two phone calls to ensure that everything was okay after the next rain. They were just wonderful and yes we would surely call them again for other roof work.

Description of Work: Slate roof was leaking in several places. After inspection, Mr. Keith proposed following solution: seal vent pipes, secure and tighten loose slates, seal portions with bitumen adhesive, seal chimney flashings, repair one hole in gutter. He said he and his team of up to six skilled roof workers would need a couple of days to do the job because of the difficulty and sensitivity of slate roofs and gave the estimate of $5350. He and his men began work at about 11:45 AM on May 6. I was out and returned about 2:30, at which point my wife informed me the men had finished, and that Mr. Keith's son had asked her for immediate payment. She complied. Mr. Keith left pictures of the work completed, but another trusted contractor who had been working on the house concurrently was outraged at the unwarranted charges. I wrote to Mr. Keith suggesting a 50 percent refund on grounds that the project had come in at a fraction of the expected cost. I noted that we had, in fact, only seen two workers with his son, but he said there were four and declined a refund. To his credit, he did return and fixed some subsequent wind damage to a set of slates a month later, at no further cost. A job which, otherwise, might have cost several hundred dollars. There have been no further leaks.
