After I ripped up the laminate flooring in the lower level of my newly purchased house (built 1999), I found some cracks in my concrete slab, including one leading right to a wall. To be safe, I wanted a structural engineer to look over the property to determine if I needed any foundation work to be done. Mr. Ohi rearranged his weekend schedule to come to my house within a few days of contacting him via email. He did a full walkthrough of the house and noticed some obvious things that our home inspector had pointed out, but identified them as symptoms of a larger drainage problem. He made some very specific suggestions around how to handle them along with a reference to a contractor. To save me money, rather than writing up a full report, he took a digital image of my plat and drew his recommendations on top of that, which he then immediately emailed to me.I could not be happier with the overall experience of working with Mr. Ohi and would highly recommend him.

I appreciated that he took the time to solve the mystery of the load bearing beam, and did so quickly as this question was threatening to put work to a stop. Overall, I thought $250 was reasonable considering we got some quotes closer to $400, and he was very responsive. He even replied to our initial email while out of the country. We emailed Friday and he was able to come to the condo the next Monday, so we were very pleased about that. Overall a pleasant experience.

He was one minute early. Leading up to the appointment he e-mailed me within minutes scheduling a time. He walked the house with me for 45 minutes and discussed the three different issues I had. He answered all my questions before leaving. He concluded with recommendations that I felt were reasonable. I never felt rushed by him. I had also contacted Geofreeze who quoted my 575 for the same service. I would use Kamran again.

How did it go? EXTREMELY WELL :-) Business with Mr. Kamran Ohi is straightforward, he is very busy but efficient; a man of few words - so be sure to listen carefully! Mr. Ohi returned our Angie's List e-mail inquiry in a timely manner (next day) and clearly identified which day and time he would call us to gather additional information from us over the phone. Once we had our phone conversation with him, he set a day and time to come on-site. Mr. Ohi arrived on time, was plesant in exchanging brief greetings, he asked for a brief orienteation so he could find his way around to attic and basement (where we needed modifications) then he went to work right awyay (setting up his ladder to access the attic and examine our roof structure, then in the basement to examine the brick and mortar and structural loads we'd have to consider for opening a new door way). He reported his findings to us verbally in plain, easy to understand language, then offered to have his office produce CAD drawings for additional costs (which we didn't need) or hand draw the new plans. We opted for the second which he produced right away, his concentration while he produced the new plans was admirable. Mr. Ohi did not miss any details, produced very clear, easy to read specs on his hand drawn plans. A contractor went off the plans and implemented our project in a few days work. Business with Mr. Ohi was among the most pleasant & professional exchanges we have had in our life! Straightforward, to the point, reliable.

Advised on the removal of an interior wall. I was not sure if it was load bearing or not and he inspected the framing below, the interior of the ceiling (through a recessed light fixture), the structure above and gave his opinion that it was in fact a load bearing wall. Several neighbors with the same house had advised that it was not, and I wanted to be sure. He gave several options for removing the wall and we may still pursue it. He also looked at a deck on the rear of the home and gave his opinion on needed improvements. Defintiely worth the piece of mind. He was easy to contact and work with.

Overall it was a fair price to provide a technical evaluation. He will charge more if you want him to write a report, so be prepared to take notes while he walks around and talks.

Contacted him over email about investigating structural integrity of house we just purchased, specific to a crack in the masonry, drainage overall, roof structure, potential inner frame compression, damaged porch roof structure, and other items. He was prompt in scheduling a flexible in when he was able to come by on relatively short notice. He validated what were serious problems that needed to be addressed, how to address them, and how critical various items were for the long-term health of the house. Paid him his minimum fee for coming out, but he spent a nice amount of time explaining everything to me in detail, answering questions, etc. There aren't many licensed structural engineers out there, but I was very happy with the quality he provided.

Overall it went great.

He was very responsive to my request and most accommodating in working with my schedule (short notice and on a weekend). He kept me updated as to his arrival time as he was coming from another job some distance away. He did not waste time -- he asked pertinent questions and was very attentive to my responses. HIs fees were extraordinarily reasonable -- half what I had been quoted by other PE's (and what I had been told was the standard rate by friends in the construction industry). I highly recommend him, especially to the individual home owner who needs personal service and attention -- the kind of service I would not expect from large enineering firms who provide their services to larger/commercial projects.

Very responsive by email. Showed up on time. Did the walk through and orally gave me his report. My only compliant was that he kept confusing my job with another one in followup correspondence. Otherwise I would consider it a very positive experience and would recommend him.

My wife and I were in the process of purchasing our first home. We were about 3 weeks away from our closing date when our termite inspection came back with signs of terminate damage in the basement. We needed to have someone inspect it fast to see the extent of the damage so we called up Kamran. He was able to make it two days later, on superbowl Sunday of all days and inspect the property. He was very knowledgeable and did a thorough investigation of the site. We were so pleased with his work that we are working with him again on our renovation plans. He has a great team and they are very prompt and have great results so far.I highly recommend him to anyone.-=Joe

Came out right away and provided a report and follow up email. I chose him because his qualifications were good and he's familiar with area houses. Also responsive in calling me back and making appointment.

Mr. Ohi came to our house and looked over the work we wanted done. He was prompt and professional. Mr. Ohi quickly, within a week, provided us with detailed drawings to enable our contractor to remove the wall and reconstruct the opening with a structural beam that is sufficiently sized to support the weight of the floor above. We were extremely pleased with his work and felt his fees to be reasonable and justified/

It was great, he knows exactly what he's talking about. He did what he could and he was very knowledgeable. I'd highly recommend people looking for similar work.

I discovered some cracks in my basement walls, and I wanted to find out possible causes and solutions. I called Kamran on Friday, because of his excellent reviews on Angie's List, and he was here on Sunday. He got here right when he said he would, and was extremely polite. He listened carefully and asked lots of questions while I explained the whole situation to him. We then went all over the basement, all around the house outside, and upstairs throughout the house. He told me what he thought the problem was and recommended a path forward, even showing me an educational video online. I plan to work with him in the future, until the issue is resolved.

We were concerned about what to do about an apparent unstable home foundation and wanted an independent opinion before we accepted the $30-40,000 solutions we were hearing. I appreciated his advice- to deal with the cause first; that is, redirect and manage the water around the foundation and on the property. A far cheaper and far more attractive idea- regrade & manage runoff with a bonus of re-landscaping.

He did a good job. He seemed to be pretty honest and thorough.

After an initial phone call, we resorted to email to schedule, which was very convenient. If I were doing this again, I would probably just start with an email. He arrived on time, evaluated some cracks in my basement, advised us at length on how to deal with the problem, and suggested remedies, but did not try to sell us on any one company. We feel pretty good about our experience with Kamran. It was great to deal with someone who knew what he was talking about and wasn't trying to sell us anything.

I thought that he was good to work with. He came when he said he would and he was available within a matter of a day or two. He seemed very competent and seem to know his business very well. He probably saved us some money because he told us we didn't need to be worried about certain issues and pointed out another issue we should address first. He really gave us a true indication of what really needed to be done.

.He was very helpful and very reasonable. He responded quickly and the contractor he recommended to us was excellent. I have nothing negative to say about him and all positive.

It went well, very responsive, professional and went beyond what was required in the contract. Scope increases, when additional payment was required, was very reasonable and agreed to up front.

ALTHOUGH HE WAS OUT OF TOWN AT THE TIME OF MY CALL, HE CAME OVER THE FIRST DAY HE WAS HOME. I APPRECIATED HIS QUICK RESPONSE. BECAUSE I HAD RECEIVED SEVERAL DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS TO MY DRAINAGE PROBLEM FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT COMPANIES, I DIDN'T WANT TO WASTE ANY MORE MONEY DOING THE WRONG THING. MR. OHI TOLD ME WHAT WAS NOT NECESSARY AND GAVE ME CHOICES OF PROCEDURES THAT SHOULD WORK. HE ALSO KNEW OF SOMEONE IN THAT BUSINESS WHO COULD GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE IF I WANTED, WHICH I ENDED UP USING AND WAS QUITE HAPPY WITH.

Kamran was very professional, thorough, and patient in explaining the engineering details to me. I definitely recommend him to any requiring structural engineering services.
