Kamran did a thorough examination of the house. He checked the basement and found an area that needed to be corrected and noted the basement floor of a 30+ year old house would not be level and was not a serious problem. Also, since there was no water seeping into the basement we did not have a water problem with the foundation. He checked the walls and ceilings on the second floor bedrooms that showed some separation and attributed it to settlement. He checked the back outside walls for being level and also suggested the need for landscaping to help divert water from the foundation. We recently had three large pine trees near the right rear of the house cut done and my wife was concerned the enormous roots of the tree nearest the house was undermining the foundation searching for water. He also suggested that an outside drain from under the house be checked for being blocked since no water was coming from it. Also, he mentioned to be certain that a roof drain was working and not leaving water near the house. He checked the level of the kitchen floor and noted it was OK. However, it is not perfectly level and Kamran will be sending us the name of a person that can correct the problem. Finally, Kamran checked the attic and noted the stresses were OK and said replacing the installation would be a good idea. The most important accomplishment is that Kamran removed the concerns my wife and I had about the safety of our house. Comments had been made that it was sliding backwards, the roof was sliding, and a sump pump was needed, I might need to be jacked up, it might need to be demolished - all not true. Karman's confident and easy going manner was appreciated plus his 40+ years of experience was comforting - no expensive repairs required.

Kamran came by and examined the foundation. I didn't want a formal report -- just advice from a professional engineer who didn't have a financial stake in whatever I chose to do for a repair. He was straightforward and honest. His advice was good, and he also debunked some of the very expensive theories I'd received from a big foundation repair company. He also recommended an excellent contractor who I ended up hiring to do the work.

On morning of appointment, he called to let us know he was running late. Once he arrived, he looked at concrete base and told us that it was sinking and explained options since beams supporting carport's roof are located in that area. Also looked at fireplace area in basement where there has been settlement. He only spoke w/ us as obtaining a written report costs more and we decided it was not needed.

Mr. Ohi came out quickly, on time and was no-nonsense in examining my wall to tell me if it was load-bearing. It was a simple, straightforward job and he did it quick. Because it didn't really require much effort, he knocked $50 off. I really appreciated his professionalism and understanding. Would definitely recommend him.

Mr. Ohi was fantastic. There was a little confusion about timing, but we were in contact in advance of the appointment time, and I knew that he was running late. Upon arrival, we got straight to work. He examined the foundation of an attachment to our house and then looked at our attic and a room in our basement. He assessed the problems, explained them to us clearly, and made recommendations. He was patient and willing to provide careful consideration to all of our questions and concerns. I highly recommend his services!

I found him on Angie's List. My experience with him was very good. Now my realtor actually used him for his own house and has used him for others. When we needed somebody urgently, he was able to come and assess the problem very quickly. When we are in a tight issue with being under contract or trying to decide if we are going to put a contract under a home, it's important to get somebody out immediately and be able to review the problem. The issue with me both times was that they were both very time sensitive issues and it had to be reviewed immediately. He was very good. For the first visit, they had a coupon through Angie's List. I was under contract for a house, and they made me walk away from the house because it had so many problems. If I needed another structural engineer, I would definitely contact him.

Our realtor requested that we get an engineering report completed for the sagging roofline on the house we were selling. Kamran was extremely accommodating and flexible. He came out the day after I called him. He took his time looking at the issue (one corner of carport sagging due to no proper footing). He discussed options, including explaining how we could fix it ourselves. He offered to look at the interior of the house as well to assess the actual foundation. He assisted in finding me a worker to complete the work (although it wasn't completed as of this date due to weather and other issues, not Kamran's fault). Provided a written report as soon as I requested it. He made himself available by phone for any questions I had and offered to speak to my realtor if my realtor had questions.. Excellent service!

Mr. Ohi was very thorough in examining my home for structural deficiencies. My primary concern was the earlier removal of a load bearing wall. Without removing floor or ceiling, he was unable to fully determine if there was an issue. His visual examination and measurements told us we were likely OK. Later when I had some work done at my home, they removed some flooring near the area of concern. I called Mr. Ohi and he came by that evening to re-examine the area with the joists and steel beam exposed. After studying the area and performing additional measurements, he was able to assure us that everything was fine. He also made some excellent recommendations with respect to improving the flow of water run-off around our home. A very professional structural engineering analysis at a very fair price. Plus some really great recommendations.

I had a water leak in the basement of my townhouse. I had 5 companies come by, some of which charged me for a visit claiming they were going to identify the reason first, before giving me the estimate for fixing it. They charged the same amounts as Mr Ohi. None of them actually attempted to try and find the source for the leak. They all said it was "ground water" and went straight to giving me the estimates to fix it, ranging from $3,500 to $20,000!!! When i got the last estimate for 20K and the person telling me I needed underpinning to fix the leak, I got fed up and went online to find a structural engineer instead. So Mr Ohi came precisely on time, on a Sunday, at a short notice, and got to work. He immediately said it couldn't be ground water and it looked like a leak from a pipe or drainage. He measured the house on the inside and outside, insisted we go to the neighbours' yard, and sure enough, he found they had a sewage leak straight into my basement. The neighbors fixed the leak and water stopped and everything dried out in a couple of weeks. I don't even want to think what would have happened if I actually did underpinning and channeled the sewage water through my (live-in) basement to the sump pump!!! Mr Ohi is a very pleasant, no BS, knowledgeable, and professional person. He could have given me another estimate and suggested a contractor to do the job, but he actually worked to resolve the problem, did not leave until he found the reason, and called me back to find out if the neighbours fixed the leak and if the water is gone now. He saved me $20,000 and a very stinky and contaminated basement as a result! He also gave me advice on a crack in the wall that i thought was related to leak, during the same visit. These were the best $250 I have ever spent on my house. I am not going to even attempt any structural renovations now without consulting with Mr Ohi.

We have an old 1953 home with sagging floors, we hired Mr. Ohi to come and figure out why it is sagging. he discovered floor joists that were cut and reset improperly during previous renovations, and also made recommendations as to how we can remedy the sag. He was very nice and explained everything in clear, logical English and didn't throw around any technical jargons. He was willing to come during a sunday, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall a great experience!

I would strongly recommend Mr. Ohi and appreciated his punctuality and seriousness as he prepared designs to remove a load-bearing wall, safely. I'm still in the process of executing the project but feel that Mr. Ohi has given me all the tools I need to make it happen.

Bottom line: Advice was good, engineering drawings were approved by county, work was performed (by me) without problems and everything worked out fine. My only reservations: --To replace the load-bearing wall required a very deep beam. In retrospect, there may have been other options (such as a shallower, thicker beam) that I would have liked to have known about. --I panicked after not receiving the plans for a while, then trying to call Mr. Ohi and discovering that his voice mailbox was full and not taking messages. He said he left me a phone message, which I evidently missed, but an email or followup phone call would also have been helpful.

We had requested a structural exam and evaluation of our older home that had shown more recent signs of settling. Mr. Ohi was very accomodating and, despite his busy schedule, prompttly made the visit four days after the original phone contact. He was professional and polite and spent time to explain his findings and reccomendations, and proved equally pleasant during the course of a follow up call.

I called Mr. Ohi on 12/6 and was able to get an appointment on 12/9. Although he was 1/2 hour late for the appointment, Mr. Ohi called ahead to let me know he was running late and it was not a problem for me. He spent the full amount of time I needed to provide a very good analysis. Mr. Ohi arrived and immediately began to assess each issue. He looked at everything very carefully. Mr. Ohi brought all the appropriate tools to analyze the situations I asked him to provide an opinion about. He climbed into the attack and another ceiling space to look at how how the house was structured. He was able to answer all my questions and allowed me to take careful notes. He provided some detailed suggestions as to how to address some issues he found. He also drew some pictures and provided some suggestions to give to my contractor for possible future improvements.

Mr. Ohi's schedule is kinda of tight. I had to wait a few weeks before getting the actual appointment. He also requested that I email him approximately two weeks after our initial discussion to confirm that I would still need his services, given the time between our initial telephone conversation and when he indicated his availabilty. However, when he agreed to an appointment, he was there at the agreed upon time range (between 9am - 10am). He walked through the property after learning what service I needed from him. Had his flashlight and later obtained his camera, and confirmed that he also had other tools-of-the-trade that might be needed (ladder, etc). I was surprised that during the initial viewing of the second floor he did not notice the small section of wall that was badly damaged by bees that attempted to nest between the walls (the property has been gutted/demo). After we returned to the second floor, I asked about it, and he was taken aback and stated that it was carpenter bees. He declined to physically go into the crawl space (he used the flashlight to see what he could from the outside of it), and noted that if the expended work is done (drawings and a report), he would have someone who would go into the crawl space. He noted that the property was the worse he's come across. He also advised that he would need to charge $950 to perform a full report with drawings. Commenting that he was giving me a good price, given that he has to pay others in the process (like the draftsman who would do the drawings). He was patient, personable, professional, and gave good/solid information during the walkthrough. He also helps the clients confidence to know that our instincts regarding structure are a good foundational beginning to knowing whether or not there is a potential issue.

I was not inclined to work with him as I did not feel he was listening to the needs I was trying to express. So we chose another contractor who did listen. Our goal was to find a contractor who could finish the project by November and Mr. Ohi indicated he could, which was why we contacted him.

Kamran was great. After a little confusion in setting up the appointment (email vs. phone + a business trip he was on), he came just when he said he would. He was very friendly, efficient and good at his job. We walked around the house looking at the problem areas. He gave us a variety of options for fixing them and patiently repeated himself as we made careful notes of his advice. He also helped us to keep some perspective over the problems we face. Though some are serious, he pointed out, the house is old and has existed with them for a long time. Kamran has a way of imparting a sense of urgency, while maintaining a sense of proportion and calm. We really appreciated his approach.

We are finishing the basement in our home and wanted to relocate a steel column that was in an unfortunate place. I am in the remodeling business myself, but I was not comfortable with the structural issues involved. Mr. Ohi came by on a Sunday, took several measurements and drew a set of permit ready plans. We discussed several options and decided on the one that made the most sense economically and aesthetically. He also recommended a contractor that did structural work. I was very pleased with his work and his responsiveness. I would recommend Mr. Ohi and in fact, already have.

After contacting a number of locations to request information on having a structural engineer come by and evaluate the walls we are having removed to determine if they were load bearing or safe to be removed. Mr. Ohi was by far the most prompt in returning my messages, very accommodating with his schedule, and his price was extremely reasonable. He was able to come out 2 days after I called him and on a Saturday to accommodate our work schedules. He was quick and very knowledgable about the building type that we live in. He was able to get me the documentation I needed for the building permits within 48 hours of having been to my house. I have since referred others to him. Great experience overall!

I found OHI Engineering on Angie?s List, given the positive reviews I decided to give them a call. Within an hour I had a call back from Kamran, the engineer, who offered to come out two days later (on a Sunday afternoon). He looked at my house, took measurements, and offered several options for my project. For a bit of background ? I am a homeowner that does most of my own work on the house. When structure was involved (removing a wall and replacing with an 18 foot beam), I was initially looking to hire someone to do the work. After consulting with Kamran, he made me feel comfortable enough to take on this project on my own. Kamran was easy to talk to, extremely responsive to my questions, and never ?talked down? to me throughout the whole process. Kamran was so responsive that I avoided emailing on the weekends because I felt bad about taking up any of his down time ? but I?m pretty sure that he never sleeps anyway because emails I wrote late at night were usually answered by the time I got up in the morning. We ran into some unexpected issues with the existing wall, which Kamran had a quick solution for. His response was always ?no problem, we can deal with that?. In the end, he came out for a second visit to the house to make sure that everything that I was doing would be sufficient and meet code. I passed the County inspection with flying colors and the inspector had nothing to say but good things about the design. I would highly recommend OHI Engineering and will definitely call Kamran again should I have any other work that needs to be done.

I was impressed by Kamran's professionalism and expertise. He knows his stuff and I highly recommend hiring him for any structural assessment that needs to be completed before a remodel begins. We were very pleased!
