In October 2012 I bought a Big Deal for $99.00 for plaster repair, and after quite a while they followed up with me. I emailed back and then called to let them know I was not in a position yet to do it, let them know where I was and what I needed, and they said "no problem" just call us back when you are ready. I contacted them by phone in April to get the work done, and I was told for the first time that a) the Big Deal was for 6 months, and had just expired, and b) they do not service my area anyway. I asked for a refund, and they said I would have to go to Angie's List for it.

I last used their service last November 16. We have used them before and so when we thought that they had a “Big Deal” we looked it up. We love them. They’re definitely the best plaster people and they did a bunch of little job around. We just kind of pointed up all the places that we needed fixed and put up the “Big Deal” for everything up they could do. I ended up paying they them $500 for the additional work they've done for me that’s worth of stuff.

The plaster wall finish is excellent. We will probably ask Mr. Cook for an estimate on the rest of our l940's house. His electrical sub was especially good and very responsive.

Great. I removed two externally pertruding pipes but that left wonderful holes. Though I attempted to patch, I quickly found out it was time to call in the pros to get it done right. Now we are ready for painting.
Description of Work: I needed a couple of holes in my stucco wall repaired. They were timely and finished quickly, and price was all including in my Angie's List Big Deal coupon.

Again, they were professional and timely, but I felt, especially after someone else was able to do the repair; that they were upselling me.
Description of Work: I bought them on a big deal. They were very responsive and professional. I thought that the three hours would have been enough to fix the small hole in my ceiling. They said, no it would take several days and be much more. I then found someone who did it in two hours and it looks great. So, I was not able to use my Big Deal or their services.

First the coupon states that ceiling's are not including in this coupon. We are original plasterers. We use plaster material. Yes it can take one day to fix if using drywall material i.e. joint compound. We do not do that. We explained the process. I guess she wasn't satified with the answer.

They kept each of the areas clean of all dust and debris. The finish product matches seamlessly in with the 100 year old plaster.

Plastering is now done -- best quality work in the 33 years we have owned the house. Workers prompt, polite, professional, as neat as possible considering the type of work. The company will also paint, but must wait for plaster to dry. If they paint as well as they plaster, we will be extremely happy.

I wasn’t happy with them at all as they came and gave a huge estimate for a huge price for a huge project and I had nothing for my $99 special. It took long time for them to give the quote and I had to call them many times to get that. They were here when they said they would be here. I would use them in the future if I feel that kind of quote would work.

Overall it went as well as we could expect. Plaster repair is messy work but Cook and Sons took care with my floors, covering everything in their path. They also sectioned off the work areas with plastic. They did a careful clean up each day.
Description of Work: Cook and Sons came by the house the first day I called them to look at the work required. They gave me an estimate and said they could come back two days later for a two-day job. They showed up on time, did the work as agreed upon, cleaned up well after each day's work. The extent of the plaster work was one hallway wall, and partial celings in the dining room and guest bedroom. It was a very messy job and we were disrupted for the two days but this is to be expected. I have a home that was built in 1874 and it is hard to find someone who can do good palster work. Cook and Sons did an excellent job with my wall and ceilings. I would definitely use them again.

They were professional from start to finish. As with most of the contractors that work from angie's list, the work was done right with good quality. But the estimate always includes the "angie's list discount", so you really don't know if there's any real discount from the original price. You get what you pay for. The job done right in the first place and that's worth it to me.

They were slow in responding. They finally came two days ago. The estimate for one room for plaster work came to $6,000. This one room is my dining room. They had to do work to the ceiling and the walls. The price is far above the industry average for the size of the room and the labor involved for the work. If that is not a red flag, I don't know what is. It sounds a bit unethical. I text them back and told them that I would not be able to work with them due to their quoted amount being so much above the industry average. They just told me to call Angie's List to get a refund so I did.

The customer purchased her coupon on Thursday, February 28th, I called her on Monday, the 4th and set up to meet with her on the 5th because she said she was only available to meet with us Tuesdays, Thursdays and on weekends. We did what she asked (how is that slow in response?). She wanted the entire ceiling torn down and re-plastered and spray popcorn materials over it. She was quoted a price of $3,500 after we deducted the value of the coupon the final total was $3,102.00 not $6,000.00 (we can send a copy of her estimate to show what was quoted to her. We have no idea why she would say all of that). Mr. Cook told her all he notice was some brown spots around her light and he told her he doesn’t think she needed a whole new ceiling. He also told her that he thinks that the popcorn ceiling may have asbestos in it he wasn't sure but she might want to find that out.

Bought a big deal and contacted them a few weeks later to schedule only to find out they didn't work in Alexandria. They were extremely professional on the phone and mentioned another service vendor that did work in our area that I might want to try. If I lived in their service area, I would give them a shot --can't give any comment on the quality of their work, though.

Mr. Cook and his team were a pleasure to work with. Despite the popularity of his Angie's List deal, I was able to get on the calendar quickly. He came out personally to do the estimate and said it would be within the deal purchase price - no pressure to pay more or add on to what I was requesting. His worker came out within the week to get it done. He was prompt and did an excellent job with the project - including a great clean up. It was a little job, but I would use them again.

After some difficulty with the scheduling, Mike arrived today and the work was done quickly and perfectly. Over the course of approximately 2 hours, the workman quickly and efficiently went about fixing both problems. While the first (the ceiling work) was relatively minor, his true craftsmanship really showed on the wall reconstruction. By slowly and methodically applying and smoothing the plaster and then ultimately applying a finishing coat, he was able to completely rebuild the broken portion of the wall. Perhaps I was just naive about plaster, but the fact that he was able to do this without any supporting wood slats (they'd been bashed away by an errant plumber) nor installing any as part of the repair surprised me. Until I saw it, I hadn't known it could be done that way nor that in one visit he could leave it in "ready to paint" condition. Lastly, when the workman was done, he did a nice job of cleaning up the work area and advising me to wait a few days to paint it. My one issue wasn't with the work - it was with the somewhat challenging communication. I called the number I'd been given to make an appointment and a woman answered. Next thing I know, there's a guy on the line also. First, she's talking to me, then they alternate between addressing me and talking to one another - I had no idea what was going on. There were no real introductions on the phone nor an explanation of who was in what role. Then, upon arrival, three people showed up. While I expected an estimator and/or the guy who will actually be doing the work, three seemed excessive and a bit imposing.
Description of Work: The work was performed as part of an Angie's List "Big Deal". In reviewing the repair issues in my home, I was informed that the deal would cover 2 of the 3 repairs I had hoped to have completed. Of the two, the first was a minor plaster repair and finishing to a water damaged area on our kitchen ceiling. The more significant job was to rebuild part of a wall that had been bashed in as part of some previously performed plumbing work. The rebuilding effort involved reconstructing an oddly shaped and uneven wall so that an access panel to the plumbing fixture behind it could be reinstalled.

Mr. Cook and his assistant showed up on time and provided an estimate the day the walk through Mr. Cook's assistant was very accomodating to my tight schedule and fit me in. Ms. Cook's assistant promptly sent over the contract and scheduled the job. The day of the job the workmen arrived on time and completed the job very fast and did an excellent job. Everyone is very professional, friendly and did a wonderful job. I highly recommend them as they do great work and show up when they say.

I would use thorough to describe Cook & Sons. The written estimate was very thorough as was their verbal explanation of what needed to be done. They did their best to contain the dust and debris and were considerate in moving and covering furniture. The work turned out to be more extensive than all parties thought at the beginning. They explained in detail what they felt needed to be done, patiently and thoroughly answered my questions, and quickly went back to work. I am very pleased with the plaster repair and highly recommend them. I was treated with respect and I found them to be courteous and honest.
