That's not entirely the truth [name removed]. We spoke on the phone, you had an established appointment time which you agreed to, but you went shopping instead. Per our worker, when they arrived on time at your home, you were not there. So, he called you, you wanted him to come back later in the day because you went shopping. Maria Cook Cook and Sons, LLC

Cook and sons are experienced skilled artisans. The walls and ceilings once lumpy and irregularly finished are now like glass. The quality of their work is impressive. They did a beautiful job, were very prompt and I would use them again or recommend them again without hesitation.

The workers showed up on time for the job and were very professional. I thought the price I was quoted did not include the coupon I purchased from Angie's list but when Cook and Son arrived they informed me they included the coupon amount. I was dissatisfied and called Cook and Sons to explain that the price was higher than I expected. Mr. Cook said that he would send one of his workers to paint the wall which was not included in the original price. I felt like we made a fair trade and I would use him again because of his quick response and willingness to make it right. However, I would not talk to the office staff, the woman on the phone was rude and had no knowledge of customer service. If you want someone who knows plaster and how to talk to a customer talk with him directly. Mr. Cook fire your office staff you will get more business and retain your customers. Thank you to the gentleman who worked on my plastered walls, they look great!!!

Cook & Sons, LLC did an excellent job on the plaster repairs, wall damage and annoying cracks that existed in many areas/rooms of my home. They performed plaster repair in several rooms, entryways, and stairwell of the home; including badly damaged plaster around windows and ceilings that had been damaged due to previous leaks. Antione Cook and his staff, from my initial call of requesting their services, were prompt and courteous. The price quoted to me, considering the amount of work that I knew was needed, was more than fair and slightly lower than other contractors I contacted. They even covered additional areas of my home that were not originally a part of the scope of work and issues not foreseen at no additional cost! I am not even going to mention some of the "weirdest" things uncovered and F---?d up stuff from previous owners found during their time performing the work on my home?s walls-ceilings in this review. They definitely went the extra mile and I must mention that the Master Plaster Tradesman (I believe Mike was the name) that performed the bulk of the work, has expert skill in plastering and take great pride in completing work to a professional finish. He went above and beyond to make sure that I was satisfied with their work and treated the job in my home with meticulousness care --as if it was his own home. Each day they were on time and cleaned-up after themselves. Upon completing the plaster work, I decided to give the painting job to Cook & Sons, LLC as well. The price of the painting mostly all ceilings and areas where plaster work was performed was on par with other contractors. Mr. Cook even threw-in the ceiling paint and primer at no additional cost. Given the age of historic houses and DC homes such as mine built in 1918, these guys know their stuff and the structure of old homes in DC well. Many contractors can perform drywall services, but few are skillful and experts in plaster. I would consider Cook & Sons, LLC an elite group of tradesmen in this category. My home's interior now look near new and the wall/ceiling cracks that plagued the home for years are gone. I was very pleased with the overall finished product and outcome of hiring Cook & Sons, LLC! I would definitely recommend them and/or consider them for jobs in the future.

They were initially hard to schedule. Showed up without an appointment, (I wasn't home, they just called me). Then when we did get it scheduled he came with his daughter and wife (who works for Antoine). That's fine, but it was a bit odd. Anyway as he was looking at the area that I needed to have patched I asked him to look at a large sidewall as well to add that to the estimate. The following week I got an estimate for $78k. I'm sure that's valid, but I would have thought if you arrive at a $180 job and you're looking at something a bazillion times more that you would perhaps reference the difference while on site. All that to say they may do good work, but their communications are poor. That's a key part of working with a contractor, so I decided they weren't a good option for me.

It seems as though this has been one miscommunication error to another. I never said to the male who called me yesterday that you were scheduled to be at my home at 8 a.m. I said that my mom had come from her residence in Columbia Heights in anticipation of my appointment with you between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. I cannot afford to reschedule my work schedule around these home improvements and will seek others in the business who have better organizational and communication skills. I have little or no sympathy for businesses in this age of technology that cannot at least the very least have placed a cell call a waiting customer to inform them that they would not be at my residence within the time frame due to vehicle issues. Having been a D.C. homeowner for over 20 years, I recognize this as the beginning of a bad relationship and will not pursue this any further. I'm asking Angie's List for a full refund of my $180 Big Deal. I also wonder about the credibility of Angie's List in advertising small businesses that seem ill prepared for the onslaught of new customers they receive with their ads. It seems that the grade report of all of its contractors is on a very curved scale.

The customer is incorrect with the price. Their price was for $475.00. We repair a crack with we had to cut out. then there were two holes which wasn't small. One was about 6 to 8 inch radius and the other was about 2½ to 3 ft long. We also had to install an access panel. We explained that we had to install metal lath, scratch coat, brown coat and finish coat. We did finish it the same day but it took longer then 3 hours.

I purchased a special, $180 for $500 worth of plastering from Cook & Sons, LLC. Mr. Cook came to my house last week. I showed him the damaged walls throughout the house and he gave me an estimate of more than $14,000 for repairs. This is way more than I can spend. I asked him to give me the breakdown for two rooms. He came back with another high estimate of nearly $5,000. We only want to spend about $1,000. My husband asked Mr. Cook if he could cost out the repairs. Mr. Cook suggested that we get a refund. So, I am asking for a refund of $180.

We told the customer that the work on the two rooms would take more than 1 day to repair. There were a lot of plaster damage on their walls. Also ceiling work issues (which the coupon did not cover). The husband call our office and Mr. Cook explained the process. The final price was $4,700.00 to repair cracks on walls and ceiling in one room and the second room we have to repair the cracks on walls and over door and in the ceiling plus re-skim the entire ceiling. Not to mention paint was included in that price. For the amount of work the customer wanted done this was a bargain.

I purchased 3-hrs of stucco or plaster repair for $99 but only received an estimate for $65,000.00 - I received no services for my money. We had to follow up several times to schedule an appointment, and once set they did not arrive at the scheduled time. Then when they did arrive, they surveyed my home, left, and sent me an estimate for $65,000.00 for, "Total to re-stucco entire bottom half and three sides of top of the house." After receiving the estimate I wrote back: Dear Ms. Cook, Thank you for the estimates, however this is beyond our means at this time and more than we bargained for. We would like to know what work can be done with the 3-hrs of stucco repair we purchased on the Angie's List Big Deal, and what materials we will need to supply. Thank you, And received the following reply: Good morning, Mr. Cook said that the patch work needed on the porch will take a lot more than three hours. Antoine Cook Cook and Sons, LLCPresident(202) 526-2533 Office(202) 526-8700 Fax I gave them $100.00 for an estimate. I feel ripped off.

We gave [member name removed] to estimates He have a lot of work around his entire stucco house. He told us that he wanted two estimates we gave him one for just patching and one for replacing the entire stucco. Regardless his project would have taken several days just for all the patched he wanted around the house. And to replace it would have taken several weeks. While we were there we explained everything to him and told him that his repairs were very costly.

Mr. Cook and his team were always on time, were professional, clean, timely, and worked quickly. But working quickly does not mean cutting corners. Mr. Cook does not cut corners - so when he fixes your plaster, it's going to stay fixed. You pay for this level of work, but we don't want the next owners of our house to have to redo all the repairs that the former owners "fixed" on the cheap, so it's worth it. He's quick because he's just that good, and experienced. Coordinating with the office was just as good an experience. Very nice experience all around. They were flexible and always friendly. I can't say enough about how pleased we are with the company. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: Removed damaged plaster, prepped, and re-plastered a large section of the basement. Repaired cracks throughout the house - some large and some small. Skimmed the entire dining room (to smooth out my sponge painting job and prep it for painting). Repaired several large areas of walls and ceilings where we had other work done (for other projects).

Mr. Cook came as scheduled and to give me an estimate for repairing the ceiling then painting the entire ceiling so the patch would not show. He said the ceiling would need primer and maybe 2 coats of paint. When the estimate came it was $250.00 for the plaster repair and $225.00 to prime and paint the ceiling. I called to ask who supplied the paint and primer and was told they would supply the primer and I would need to get the paint. The plaster work was done as scheduled, great care was taken to block off the area they worked in to keep the dust and mess under control. The plaster work/stucco matched the existing ceiling very well and they did a great job on clean up. The plaster needed to dry a few days before it could be painted. Since the paint was very expensive, I asked Mr. Cook to buy the paint with his contractor discount. I wanted to use the same paint I used to paint the rest of the kitchen last year. When he returned with the painter and the paint he told me the paint was expensive because it was paint with primer included. The painter got started and I left him to do his work. When I checked to see how it was going I was unhappy to see there was no taping done where the wall and ceiling meet and the paint line between the two was not clean and neat. I spoke to Mr. Cook and he had the painter go back with the wall color to make it right. It now looks fine. I ask Mr. Cook about a better price on the painting since they only had to do one coat due to the paint I use vs. the 2-3 coat estimate and he did not have to supply primer. He told me that was their minimum charge for painting, which is the reason for the B rating for price. I did have to do some clean up after the painter left. There was roller spray on some of the wood cabinets, they should have been covered before the painting. The painter used my kitchen stainless steel sink to clean his equipment, leaving some scratches. I have a sink in the garage for that kind of clean up which I had showed to Mr. Cook. I was not pleased with the painting experience, but the plaster work was very professional.
Description of Work: Repaired damage to plaster and stucco on kitchen ceiling. Painted entire ceiling.
