Aiello Home Services is a proud 4th generation family-owned business that's been serving Connecticut for over 90 years. We began as a small business upgrading coal fired systems to oil. Later, we expanded into gas boilers, air conditioning, plumbing, drain clearing, electrical, energy assessments and most recently, smart homes. The Aiello of today is on a mission to earn the business of Connecticut residents with faster repairs and installs, top-notch warranties and guarantees, and unmatched customer service. Judging from our 1,000+ 5-star reviews, we think we're on the right track.
The services was great. I was very happy with the service and outcome.

I am a past Aiello customer from 20+ years ago when they were located in Wilson. I emailed Aiello with specific details of the work that needed to be done and asked specifically if they had experience with this type of Kohler repair. Aiello is not on Kohler's list of recommended plumbers, however I was assured in speaking with Garrett, the supervisor, that they do Kohler repairs all the time. I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance and was guaranteed an arrival time of 8:30 - 9:30. Garrett could not provide a price quote over the phone. Aiello's plumber, John, showed up at 10:15. I restated what needed to be done. John explained that Aiello is not the cheapest, but they guarantee their work. To get a price, John looked for this line item repair in his price book. He couldn't find Kohler as a line item, but estimated 40 minutes each @ $7.35 a minute, plus a $49 dispatch fee. John admitted that he had replaced values before, but had never seen this Kohler shower design, and would and quot;have to figure out how to take the handle and faceplate offand quot;. John indicated if he damaged this, then Aiello would be responsible and have to replace the damaged parts. John called Garrett to see if they could come up with a better price. John then indicated that Garett had told him that Aiello would not be responsible if the existing shower handle and faceplate where damaged during this repair. I asked John how comfortable he was with this repair, he looked again at the shower handle and faceplate and shared that he had no idea how to take it off without possibly damaging it, he guessed that a special tool was most likely needed, and that Aiello would not have it. John gets credit for being honest and this is why I am not rating their professionalism an F. What is very upsetting is that Aiello has definitely changed their business practices since being a smaller plumbing company in Wilson. I could not have been more specific as to what needed to be done on three separate occasions - 1st in the email inquiry, 2nd when speaking with Garrett, and 3rd when confirming the appointment the day before. Aiello should have been upfront with customers - they clearly are not capable of Kohler repairs; telling their plumber that they wouldn't be responsible for potential damage to the existing fixture is a 180 degree departure from their service guarantee and is directly opposite from what the plumber had initially shared. All in all a huge waste of time.
Description of Work: Project was to replace a shower value and whirlpool transfer value using factory parts we have obtained directly from Kohler warranty/customer service. This would be labor only for work that Kohler customer service indicated could be handled all from the front.

Response from Aiello Home Services
Dear Member: This is in response to your letter to Angie’s list dated 12/27/12. I offer the same apology I offered when we spoke on the phone. Your first concern is that we “missed” your window. We try very hard to arrive within the window of time we tell to our customers. However, sometimes our technicians can run longer on jobs than anticipated. It happens. In your circumstance we sent the first available technician, coming from a job in Farmington, to your home. We called and told you he was on his way. IF we neglected to indicate that he was traveling from Farmington and that he wouldn’t be there in five minutes, our apologies. Addressing your primary concern “working on specific Kohler equipment.” Aiello only employs licensed plumbers. And yes, we do lots of work on Kohler products. However, Kohler has made a huge number of models and styles over the years. Many – like the one you have - require special tools. It is then often very difficult to know exactly what is required without seeing the job first. I try to alert every customer about this before we send out a tech. You and I did speak prior to the job and though I’m fairly certain we talked about this I again apologize if we didn’t. You mentioned that you sent an e-mail, but I’m not sure to whom you sent it. I am very good at saving all my e-mails from customers so I checked back to the last 6 months and couldn’t find it. Hence perhaps a bit more confusion. Your comment about us standing behind our work. Aiello will always stand behind our work 100%. That is exactly why I didn’t want our tech to touch the job without the proper tool because we would then be taking responsibility to repair or replace any broken item. I’d also like to remind you that at the conclusion of our visit we chose not to charge you the already agreed-upon dispatch fee. It was our way of making up for your “lost hour” of time. We thought it was both fair and reasonable. We’re not sure you are being the same with us. Aiello handles nearly 15,000 transactions per year with better than a 97% satisfaction rate, according to an independent survey company. We’re proud of that record. Our regular customers continue to use us, because they know how well we stand behind everything we do and the quality of our work and our technicians. Finally, you are correct about us changing our plumbing practices since you used us 20 years ago. Lots of things have changed in 20 years. However, most of our customers (probably 97% of them) would say it is for the better. We have improved the quality and standards of our technicians and services to be second to none. We have become a leader in the industry and a model that many companies try to copy. We try to please 100% of the customers, but we know that’s not realistic. I hope that at some point you would give us another chance so that we may be able to move you from the 3% to the 97%. Thanks again for your comments and your time. Garrett C. The plumber arrived right on time, and looked at the 3 items on my list - leak at washing machine, backed up dishwasher, low pressure at kitchen faucet. Leak at washing machine turned out to be a simple hose placement issue, he unclogged the dishwasher drain, and recommended replacing the faucet and fixing the valves. The entire visit was about 20 - 25 minutes, no new parts involved, so I was pretty surprised to be charged $219 (which included the usual 49.00 dispatch charge). I don't fault the plumber, he seemed to have a sheet of set prices, and charged me the lowest on the list. He was also professional + knowledgeable, and I was happy to have 2 of the 3 items resolved. He gave me an estimate in the neighborhood of $500 for replacing the faucet set and checking/fixing the valves, which also seems high to me. (And does not include the faucet set price, which I want to pick out myself). I'll get quotes from another local plumber(s) before i have Aiello return to do that work. I wish there were a and quot;maybe' selection under and quot;would you use this companyand quot; again, because I need more information about local competitive rates.

Overall the experience was great. Our 24 year old furnace stopped working late on a Saturday night, and they got a 24-hour tech out to us within 90 minutes of our reporting the issue. The tech was honest and straightforward, and he quoted each piece of the process to us. He was also welcoming of questions coming from my wife and me throughout the entire process. Once we decided to replace the system, Aiello was able to get an evaluator out to us on a Sunday afternoon, and he, too, was honest, and direct about the entire process. At no point was there any pushiness to simply and quot;buy the most expensive because it's clearly the best.and quot; Instead, we talked through all of our options and found the one that worked the best for us. Two days later (due to one more day of deliberation on our end) we had a brand new setup running like a dream. It was a very smooth, very painless operation. This was our second time working with Aiello, the first being for some A/C repairs last summer. The process was exactly the same. They're definitely a keeper for the address book.

Aiello replaced our heating system circulator pump and billed us for a home visit, plus time spent on-site, plus mark-up charges on the replacement pump. I called to challenge them regarding charging both for the visit plus excessive time spent on site, as the technician was not at the location for the amount of time billed and did not require a trip for parts. The billing was not explained at the time of service as the technician was terse. When I called for an explanation, I was told that the billing is substantiated by the GPS on their truck which indicated it was at our location for the time billed. I had misgivings, and would have preferred to go with another heating/plumbing company for future work but we later had a warrantee issue. We had a four to five year old, Aiello installed hot water indirect tank with an internal leak that Aiello was unable to diagnose. After a few hundred dollars in work, I had to figure out the problem myself. When Aiello and I agreed that the tank was the problem, the technician and service manager agreed they would get back to me after contacting the factory rep to discuss warrantee replacement of this premium tank. I agreed to cover installation charges, but was hoping that as large as Aiello is, they would get the manufacturer to stand up behind their equipment. The following day, a salesman from Aiello called to offer to sell me a replacement dometic hot water tank. I asked what happened with the warrantee replacement and was told this wasn't an option. At this point I gave up on Aiello. I went back to my plumber from a previous home, who contacted a factory rep and got me the FREE replacement domestic hot water tank that Aiello was too lazy to ask about even though my good old plumber didn't perform the original install.

Response from Aiello Home Services
Aiello Response No company likes to get a bad review on Angie’s list or Bubba’s list. In the end, we can’t afford it. That’s why this particular review is so infuriating and must be corrected. Here are the immediate inaccuracies: Aiello does not charge by “the hour.” We did not charge the customer for “time at the site.” The equipment the member refers to was no longer under warranty from Buderus. In 2005 Aiello installed a Buderus oil boiler and Indirect Water Tank which were under warranty from Buderus until the owner sold the home to someone else. The warranty was NOT transferrable. In March 2009 the member called Aiello and said she had no heat. We have straight-forward pricing which includes a standard trip charge – which we explain before setting an appointment. She agreed to the charge. When we arrived we determined that she needed to replace a recirculating pump and we suggested an oil system tune-up (it hadn’t been done in 4 years). We provided a quote of $550 BEFORE any work was begun. The member agreed to our quote. 14 months later, in May of 2010 she called again. This time, we elected NOT to charge a trip fee. There were issues with her indirect tank – which was no longer under warranty. We relocated a water feed and in good faith charged her our cost: $212 with tax. Subsequently the member called and asked us to “cover the warranty from Buderus.” We don’t warranty other people’s products. We asked Buderus to honor the warranty and they declined. This occurred a number of times in our dealings with Buderus. We were neither lazy nor indifferent. Fortunately for the member his new plumber was able to convince Buderus to cover the cost of the indirect. Our issue with this review is that Buderus’ decisions were and are entirely out of our control. Further, we did all that the customer requested – and only what the customer approved in writing before hand, provided two discounts – and then had a “negative review” posted two years after the fact. No one wants an unhappy customer. We do every reasonable thing we can to earn and keep our customers. Last year we provided service to more than 10,000 Connecticut customers. We’d suggest you visit Aielloreviews.com and read some of the comments of the more than 1600 positive sales and service reviews we’ve received in the last two years and balance that against the member’s version.

Repairman SPILLED OIL inside furnace (hot air system) and LEFT OIL inside furnace. Overnight, the smell permeated the house. HORRIBLE SMELL. COMPLETELY throughout the house with bedding, clothing, pillows, EVERYTHING affected. We called service manager the next day and he sent same repairman back. Repairman spent less than 1/2 hour vacuuming up the mess, put down some 'smell-be-gone' or something. SMELL CONTINUED to come through vents and it was necessry to call Aiello back and get their insurance company here to rectify the problem. It has taken OVER A MONTH for the smell to begin to dissappate. WHY didn't the repairman clean up the spill properly same day? WHY didn't Aiello call me back when I called him 2 days after the spill to get insurance info? WHY did I have to call them? We had to call State DEEP, two different environmental clean-up companies, and spend a great deal of time accommodating servicemen sent to our home by their insurance company in order to get smell out --- and I still get faint odors. Don't know if we're clear yet or not. NOT HAPPY --- DEFINITELY A FORMER CUSTOMER.
Description of Work: We used this company for over one and a half years to service two units - an oil boiler and an oil furnace. We did preventive maintenance - cleanings for two Septembers and used them for repair work. In January, 2011 they came out on emergency call to replace a coupling in the oil furnace. In December 2011, we noticed sounds coming from the furnace and called for repairs. They were prompt and showed up same day - Dec. 27th. Repairman said it was oil pump and replaced oil pump but then told us that it was really the coupling. He replaced both and, we were told, charged minimum price for oil pump only. Fine. However, repairman spilled oil inside furnace (hot air system) and left oil spill inside the furnace.

The plumber arrived as scheduled, was courteous and friendly, and quoted me $700+ for the installation of the (2) outdoor frost proof faucets. When I asked why Aiello's price was so high he explained that it was because they offer same day service...typically associated with work that is time sensitive. My faucet installation was not time sensitive and once he provided me with his quote I kindly declined. He then gave me an invoice for $50 which purportedly covered his cost for driving to my home in Simsbury...approximately 20 minutes from Aiello's headquarters. I paid the $50 and vowed to never quote or use their services again. Later that day I called another local plumber and he provided me a quote right over the phone (something Aiello refused to do - they claimed they needed to see the job in person) for literally half the price quoted by Aiello...I ended up paying $350 for the professional installation of both faucets (including all materials).

They have been really good. They do regular tune up on my furnace and air conditioning. They put in a new garbage disposal last November when I moved into the house. They came right away and they are very detailed. I also had a hot water tank put in. The service people are not the warmest people in the world but they are very knowledgeable. I could probably get it done cheaper but these people are really professional and they really know what they are doing. They are a little pricey but I don't have any complaints. I believe if they do it and they do it right and you don't have a problem with it again I think that is a recommendation. I am sure I could have got it done cheaper but when it comes to my furnace I rather pay a few more dollars and have it work reliably. There is no problem with their responsiveness and they come within the time frame they said they would.

they unplugged the disposal but the next day when I went to get something out of the dishwasher - which is right next to the sink it was filled with water from the overflow of the disposal when it got clogged. They determined that a certain part needed to be replaced (a $700+ job) but since it was late Friday afternoon, and since they didn't have the part in stock, they needed to wait until Monday. Then, the Nor'easter hit and we lost power -- and apparently, so did Aiello. We kept calling anyway to keep in touch with them. We finally got power back on Wednesday of the following week, and Aiello told us that they were unable to get in touch with the supplier (They were emailing the supplier). By the end of the week, same story -- we had to call THEM and they kept saying that they were emailing the supplier but didn't hear back. A couple of times, they promised to call me to let us know any updates but they never returned calls. By late Friday, I told them that we might need to hire another contractor if they keep putting us on hold -- they seemed neither concerned nor bothered that we were in a pinch or that our tenants had no heat. They just said, 'Okay.' Granted - we all lost power and we understand that they had to deal with a lot of headaches that week. BUT, we hired another company the following Monday and they fixed the furnace on the same day and for $500 less. And still, Aiello hasn't gotten back to us concerned the part (which, btw, the other company got the SAME day). Sad -- I really wanted to leave a positive review, considering they were willing to come out the first day. But they blew it after that, and it's not entirely the fault of the storm. We wasted $230+ and they didn't do anything. Nor did they ever follow up to see how we or our tenants were doing. That's really sad. Note - i didn't leave an overly poor report, considering the storm. But there comes a point where the responsiblity lies in poor customer service, and we were put on the back burner. Not a good feeling. And they have other reviews like this and those didn't have anything to do with the storm.
Description of Work: We have a rental in Cromwell and right before the 2011 Nor'easter hit, the furnace blew. Looked on Angie's List and all our top picks were busy that day - except for Aiello, who were willing to come out the same day but only for a special fee ($100+). So, they came out late in the day, told us that they needed to do a diagnostic for the furnace -- another $100+. We were at little bothered by this, but we wanted to do right by our tenants, so we paid it.

I had an unpleasant interaction with them years ago. I had a small leak in the bathroom and I had them come. It was going to be an absorbent amount and they wanted to sign me up for a maintenance program. We think this is an unfair and bias report. From the opening line, "an unpleasant interaction - YEARS AGO." We beleive that we provide quality service often in emergency situations. They come back to fix any problems at a lower rate. Their prices seem exorbitant when I needed work done. Their estimates have been extremely high. I haven't had any other work done by them. The workers had done the maintenance well, but I am not sure if they had given me all the proper options. We had a problem where we didn't have enough hot water coming into the shower. Their options were not complete and exorbitant. I had a plumber who came out and did some adjustments with the valves that seemed to have helped quite a bit. They do the cleaning well, but I am not sure about their suggestions on fixing things.
