Chris Calkins arrived as promised, quickly assessed the jobs at hand and went to work. He was here for about 2.5 hours, leaving once to pick up supplies at a nearby store. Throughout, he was friendly without being chatty. Since I work from home, I was doing so nearby. He seemed to enjoy his work, pleased to restore light where there had been none.

I called Chris and explained that I needed to change from 1960's fuses to breakers and he said he would be out to give me a quote the next day. He arrived in the time frame he gave me and I felt comfortable with him from the beginning. Very knowledgeable and put me at ease of the length of time it would take to do the job. The price was very reasonable and I paid exactly as quoted. No added surprises and the apprentices were both great. Professional and fast but also great personalities. The job quoted was finished in less than 4 hours and I was delighted in the quick response from Chris and will use Calkins Electric in the future.

The two technicians checked the breaker box and determined that the breaker proving electricity to that circuit was operating, not faulty. Next they began tracing the receptacles and lights that were not operating and found loose wiring in one of the receptacles. There was no burned receptacle or cover but the wiring was singed. They replaced the receptacle and cover, tightened all the wiring and everything on that circuit was working again. It was a professional job!!

.Actually, I called for a neighbor that had tried to help replace a fuse that had gone out. I took out the cartridge fuse for the washing machine and found it melted. I looked up Electricians on Angie's list and found Calkins, they told me they were very professional and came right over and fixed the problem. Highly recommended.

Just call Chris... I found Chris on Angie's List and called him late on a Thursday afternoon. He just happened to be getting done for the day so he stopped over and told me of the "whole range" of generator options I could choose from, and their prices. He helped me personalize the selection for my needs. He offered to return Monday morning with the system I selected, and showed up with two helpers and in a couple of hours the three of them had a 10 circuit system wired in and the generator running...followed with a short class on how to run the system. How can you beat that...you can't. I'll call Chris again the next time I need an electrician.

Great working with Chris and his team! Upgraded 100 amp service to 200 amps with a generator switch... Finished in 2/3 the time I expected, had the building inspector here promptly at 3pm and did a super job on this much needed project! Caulkins Electric is a "keeper!"

When I woke to discover that most of the outlets on the first floor of my house had no power, I found Calkins Electric here at Angie's List and called him. He was at another urgent job, as were all his other teams. I explained my problem, and he agreed to come as soon as he or one of his other teams could brake away, but that it might not .be until the next day. That same afternoon he called me to let me know that he was on his way to my home. When they arrived, they did a few quick checks to narrow the number of problems that were likely to cause the loss of power to areas served by several different breakers. They began checking and found and corrected the problem right away. They did a quick check of other circuits and outlets throughout the house and found no other problems but did notice a safety hazard, which they explained to me so that I could avoid it in the future. From arrival to departure with the problem completely repaired took less than 30 minutes. I was very impressed with their promptness, understanding of my sense of urgency, technical competence and professionalism. Calkins Electric is now the company I will call in the future whenever I have any sort of electrical work to be done.

Mr. Calkins and his employee were very professional and polite. The workmanship looks great. The jobs took 4.5 hours to complete. They didn't mind removing their work boots when they were inside. I was assured the outlets and switches were reliable and of good quality versus the cheaper electrical materials found at large home improvement stores. I would use Calkins Electric again and would recommend to family and friends.

I live 1,000 miles away from the house. I called for service at 6:30 on a Saturday morning, explained the problem, and provided contact information for my tenants. Calkins took care of everything from there and had the problem resolved that same morning. Parts price was comparable to what it would have cost from Lowes and the service price was very reasonable given the short notice and weekend call. Overall, very satisfied and will use them again.

Was very unprofessional on his opinion the work to be done....didnt even bother to call us w an estimate when he aid that he would. When I reached out to contact him to see what was goin on he just said that he didnt want to do the job...and it would have been nice if he had said something in the first place instead of having me wait around for his reply.

Need a plug wired to electrical panel for the generator.

The main impetus for needing an electrician, and quickly, was that the external ground wire to the house was frayed and hanging by a thread (one small gauge wire, really). I was very concerned about damage to the electrical system of the house if there was a power surge or lightening strike. I called several electricians (found on the internet) for quotes and scheduling. I was surprised to find most people didn't return my calls. And when I finally did get to speak with someone, they wanted me to pay a $75.00 travel fee, and another was a no-show - twice! Frustrated, I went to Angie's List and found Calkins Electric LLC. Chris Calkins answered his phone immediately and scheduled time the next day to come to the house and fix my list of electrical issues. Chris and his apprentice were punctual, professional, knowledgeable and very amiable. I felt confident in their ability to perform the electrical work and comfortable with them in my home. The only blip in an otherwise perfect contractor experience was the bill. I had not requested an estimate before the work was performed so was taken aback at how much it cost. But after calculating for 2 electricians for 4 1/2 hours, who came when they said they would and didn't mind when I threw in repairs they didn't expect, and the piece of mind that the work was done right, it was well worth it.

My bathroom was a total gut and remodel. All the wiring had to be removed and rerouted to accommodate new lighting, new vent fan w/nightlight, receptacles and GFCI. Calkins worked with the other contractors timeline and showed up as promised, did what needed to be done professionally and in a timely manner. I plan to use them again for more electrical work I have planned in the future and I would recommend them. Their estimate was right on and fair in my opinion.

called the co. up, described the problem, they were very prompt but very expensive service to screw in one or two fuses. unfortunately i had no other options at the time.

Prior to hurricane Sandy, I needed to get a transfer switch installed for use with my 7000W Troy Bilt Portable generator. I picked up a Reliant 10 Circuit Transfer switch at Home Depot and called him to determine if he was available. I was extremely fortunate that he was already doing a job in Montville and he came over after he finished. He was extremely professional and quickly finished the job(just over an hour). I am not sure if I paid Hurricane prices. It was $1000 just for the labor. That seemed high to me but not unexpected due to demands for his services prior to the storm. He was helpful when I called him with some additional questions. When the power when out, it was all worth it.

He was very prompt in coming to look at the problem and then scheduled the work. Overall, the work was performed quickly and he identified the problem, which had been puzzling me. It was a very good and professional experience.

I was impressed with the neat installation of the pool house receptacles, and how quickly they knew why the bedroom outlet was not working. After completing the work, the areas worked on were left neat and clean. Based on the work performed by Calkins Electric, I am having them back for another job.
