The contractor I typically use (also listed here on Angie's List and well-rated) diagnosed my problems as being in the furnace and the pressure relief tank. They recommended replacing the furnace system, at a cost of approximately $7000. Although my experiences with Contractor A have always been good previously, this was a lot of cash, and I wanted a second opinion. I called Billy Carlson based on the ratings here, and the fact that his shop is only a couple miles from my home. Billy came out promptly and studied the situation for quite a while, performing a bunch of different tests and experiments to try and nail it down. Sure enough, he had a different diagnosis -- there was a leak in the coil of my hot water tank, and the high-pressure domestic supply was pushing back into the low-pressure boiler supply, causing the overflow at the pressure relief tank. He demonstrated to me how he arrived at this conclusion, and I felt confident in his methodical and reasoned approach. Billy quoted on both replacing the hot water tank (it was out of warranty), and fixing the ancillary problems with the furnace. I gave a deposit on a Wednesday, if I recall correctly, and he ordered the new tank. On Friday, his team were there doing all the prep work, and returned Monday to complete the job. I have a difficult basement, really just a crawlspace, and this was a challenging job. Very little headroom to work, and a dusty cramped environment. Despite this, Billy's team were always polite, courteous, and professional. Billy returned ALL my calls promptly, and was ALWAYS at my house when he said he would be. The work was done more quickly than I hoped; I have plenty of hot water and zero problems since he completed the job, and I didn't have to replace my heating system - which, as it turns out, would not have fixed the problem anyway! Everything was cleaned up when the job was done, and I am very happy with the results. I will use Billy Carlson again the next time I have a heating/cooling issue.
Description of Work: Billy Carlson and team replaced a failing indirect hot water tank and associated valves, piping, etc, and also fixed some ancillary problems with my oil-fired furnace which were a consequence of the coil leaking in the hot water tank. I was getting a lot of leakage from the pressure tank, making a heck of a mess and drowning my furnace -- needless to say, coming home to puddles, a dead furnace, and no hot water got old pretty quickly.

It was a great experience. He was phenomenal from the minute I first talked to him. He wore rubber gloves to keep everything clean. He had other workers there and he didn't have to be there to babysit them. I left them at my house alone and when I got back everything was cleaned up. He is top on my list.
Description of Work: He installed a whole new heating system in my house.

Excellent experience. Responded quickly and came when he said he would. Billy came in and identified the problem within a few minutes. Picked up the part and replaced it. No messing around, nice guy, competent and focused on resolving the problem. Very nice job!
Description of Work: Air conditioning not working in middle of a heat wave. It seemed to be running but was not cooling our home.
