Guarco Construction Driveway Paving & Snow Removal

It is about 150 feet long, portions of which have a significant slope. I am a Geotechnical engineer with a firm that does work all over the country, almost exclusively commercial. We work with contractors every day. In addition to designing foundations for skyscrapers, we routinely observe paving work, typically on interstate or other major highways. In a nutshell, our job is to confirm that suitable soils either exist or are placed (following removal of unsuitable soils) below pavements and that those soils are properly compacted prior to placement of the pavement surface. Without proper compaction of the soils, the pavement surface will not provide the desired performance or life expectancy. We chose Guarco because after talking to several contractors to understand their process and gauge their understanding of pavement behavior, Carl Guarco seemed to have a better grasp vs. the competition on how to deliver a superior product. I also took the time off from work to observe Guarco‘s activities from pavement removal through preparation of soils, including addition of high-quality base material where needed. Carl responded promptly to our call and made an appointment to come take a look. After reviewing the damage Carl concluded that only half the drive needed to be repaved. We were not in a rush to have the job done and worked it out with Carl for it to take place later in the season. About half way through the summer Carl stopped by to tell us he was running a bit behind but had not forgotten us. It was unexpected and greatly appreciated. Workers were respectful, professional and good natured. I am not exaggerating when I say you will be as pleased with your results as we are with ours. Carl Guarco came out himself to measure the driveway and provided me with a reasonable priced written estimate immediately. Carl impressed me by his knowledge and extra attention on the pitch of the driveway on different sections to ensure proper drainage. We also had masonry work being done and Carl worked great with the masonry contractor so that he removed the old driveway prior to the masonry work and then waited to lay down the pavement after masonry work completed. The masonry/driveway seam is impressive. I would definitely recommend Guarco Construction for new driveway.

The ground around my driveway has a lot of moisture and I suspected I had a drainage problem. I saw that Guarco Construction offered drainage solutions as part of their driveway paving services. When Carl came to make an estimate, the first thing he said is that I have a drainage problem based on the wavyness of the driveway surface and all the ridges and ruts. Carl quoted an engineered drainage solution which he has been using for several years along with repaving the driveway. Based on the paving quotes I had received from other paving contractors without a drainage solution, the Guarco quote seemed reasonable, so I hired Guarco Construction. The old pavement was removed, the drainage solution was installed under the new driveway base as specified, and the driveway repaving was done with care and attention to detail. I am very pleased with the timeliness of this job from start to finish and the quality of the results.

Carl was very prompt in responding to our request for an estimate. Once we were ready to begin the work and retain Guarco, Carl began work within 1 week. Carl explained the process every step of the way and always came to the site when he said he would. Carl was also very courteous to our neighbors. The end result is just right. Quality was my number one priority due frost heaves on my old driveway . I was really impressed how much care they put into ensuring that the structural integrity of the driveway was sound prior to pouring any asphalt. High quality job and nice folks to work with.

Great working with Carl Guarco. Was very quick to respond for request for quote, and took the time to examine the driveway, explain why the asphalt was sagging and cracking in different areas and describe what recommended action was to prevent it from re-occurring in a new driveway. After proposal accepted for work, was actually sooner than originally discussed for work starting. Had the entire driveway and new fill done in a day. Few weeks later after settling, crew came and paved the entire driveway in a morning. New driveway looks great. Took the time afterwards to explain how long to stay off, and steps for hosing it down and driving on it initially to minimize any impact on the new pavement. Would definitely recommend!

Great experience for us and now we have an excellent new driveway. Carl quickly provided an estimate and explained well the details of this project. As the work progressed he continually updated us on issues and his plan to address them. He was very careful to make progress without affecting our day to day. We hired Carl to completely remove and install a new asphalt driveway in May 2019. We have a very long driveway on a hill that was original to home and falling apart. Excellent! Karl was professional throughout. Impressive honesty, speed and excellent work. I needed a length of driveway repairing. It was rutted and Karl explained that the core was damaged and needed replacing - no question of just patching and new asphalt. Step 1 was to remove the old blacktop and re-lay the hard core. Done neatly without a blade of grass out of place. Step 2 was the black top. Again very neat and seamless match with remaining drive. It was a pleasure dealing with him throughout.

very well- the weather was not totally cooperative, but they kept us informed and got to work as soon as conditions were good. The owner was part of the work team- they all were very professional, focused, knowledgeable. Very responsive to phone calls , questions, suggestions. We do not anticipate needing their services again, but if we did, we would not hesitate to hire them again!

Carl and his crew did an excellent job. My old deeply-rutted driveway had no base underneath and virtually no pitch. Since we originally weren't certain what was under that pavement, Carl gave me two estimates, a lower one for sandy soil (better drainage) and one for clay soil. As it turned out, the soil was sandy, but because the ground was virtually flat from garage to road (65'), it was necessary to install a drain in the driveway and to make subtle adjustments to pitch so that water will drain properly. Carl and his crew handled the project in two days (about three weeks apart). The new driveway looks great!
