Cutting this tree down was an emergency and Spigs and Twigs did squeeze me into the schedule (which I appreciated.) They were supposed to cut the tree and limbs into 18and quot; or less logs. Many of the logs they left were over 18and quot; long and some have such a large circumference I have no idea how to ever get them split (the circumference on some is well over 18and quot; - more like 24and quot;-30and quot;. Some of the logs are huge, too huge to pick up. However, the guys from Spigs and Twigs were polite and very efficient. They got here and went right to work, but they left so quickly I had no opportunity to look at the work they did before they left. (I was/am in the middle of some severe family medical issues and do not have the time nor energy to pursue them on this.) I would use them again - but would have to be when I could pay more attention to what they were doing and be out there with them. My impression is that the crew was largely young men who may not have had much experience with looking at the results of their labor from their customers perspective. They may not have any problems with the huge logs they left - they're young, strong and have equipment to handle the logs. _____________ Update: Mr. Lillie - Please reread what I said above. I appreciate that you returned and cut some of the logs that were too long. **However, I did not ask your men to talk to my neighbor - in fact, knowing that he would come take a look, I had asked them not to speak with him at all - and apologized ahead of time for any distraction he might provide. Had I known they believed that I had some sort of agreement with him about the wood, I would have been furious -- especially since they said nothing to me about it. **I told your crew leader as well as the person that took the service order that I wanted the wood for my wood stove - not because I didn't want to pay for you to remove the wood. **Your crew left without telling me they were done. **My mother had just been taken to the hospital and the social worker was giving me information about making a decision to put her on hospice care or not - so (as indicated above) maybe you can understand that dealing with the wood on the ground was the last thing on my mind. Especially since I believed a and quot;Band quot; overall rating to be good. **I have not been able to respond to your comments before this as my mother died and my partner's father died in October within 2 days of each other. We've been busy. As I said before, your crew struck me as young and unschooled in customer service. And perhaps they were in such a hurry to complete their tasks, they forgot to take time to listen. It's also possible that the tone of your comments may have been less angry and more understanding if you had actually read everything I wrote and the ratings in the categories I gave your company. Given your return to fix the problem and as you asked, I reviewed the ratings and upgraded the appropriate ones, but still firmly believe that I cannot give an overall rating of and quot;Aand quot;.

When I saw this feedback from the customer (which was 6 months after the job was completed), we immediately went to her house and it turned out that we needed to shorten only 5 pieces of wood to 18". Out of the many pieces of wood we cut, 5 of them were slightly too long. Regarding the large pieces of wood that were left. The customer's contract with us had options for us to remove the wood, but she did not want to pay for it to be removed, so we left it as the contract specified. In fact, the neighbor told us he had an agreement with the customer to move and split the big pieces in return for his keeping some of the wood. When we recently went back to her property, we actually carried some of the big wood over to the neighbors house for him. When the job was initially completed, the customer was present and paid us, and did not mention any concerns, nor has she called the office any time in the last 6 months to tell us of any concerns. The first we heard of anything was when we saw her write-up in Angie's List. We absolutely guarantee and standby all of our work and try to give high value; if you are our customer and need anything at all, let us know right away, not 6 months later. This was very easy and fast to correct once we knew about it. This should have been rated an A. Bill Lillie, CEO

Sprigs and Twigs did an excellent job. Were punctual and very pleasant. They were very knowledgeable. We are talking about having some more trees trimmed and removed. I thought their pricing was very competitive. We are already discussing some things that need to be done.

This customer has not contacted our office to express these concerns with our Organic Lawn Care Program. We performed a soil test as promised on 5/15/2012 and on June 25, 2012 we sent Member and her husband a letter that contained: 1) the actual test results, 2) our analysis of those results and recommendations that lime and compost top dressing be added based on her extremely poor soil conditions, and 3) a proposal to do the recommended work. The customer never responded to our letter and recommendations. It is not surprising that crabgrass is present based on the poor condition of her soil. The Organic Lawn Care Program contract that she signed in the spring stated "Outstanding results can be achieved with an organic program, although results are a bit slower than a program using pesticides & herbicides. Frequently, we need to correct the soil profile, microbial action, pH, add micronutrients and add more desirable seed to get the lawn going in the right direction. This is especially true if the lawn has been previously treated with a chemical program which almost always kills the living soil." The customer has an 8 part program that runs from March through September. We have completed 6 of the steps and will aerate and overseed in September. This same program has been run on over 100 properties with extremely good results, but requires that the homeowner follow our recommendations to fix soil problems. In this case, that has not happened so the lawn is not getting what it needs to thrive and crowd out the crabgrass. I just called and left a message for the customer to call me. It sounds like they never received our letter with the results and recommendations. It is not too late to follow our recommendations to lime and compost top dress the lawn as is needed. Always call the company directly right away if you have any concerns at all.

They came last summer, the end of August or early September, 2011. There was a large crew of young people and it was a major process watching them all work together to get the job done. I remember it was a very hot day. Linda made sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to do and everything was planted where it was supposed to go. I admit they were expensive in their estimate, but we felt it would increase the value of our house. We would recommend them again.
Description of Work: We were very pleased with the work Sprigs and Twigs did for us last year. They were very organized and everything went in as planned. Even though the cost was pricey for the, we would still recomment them for landscaping.

Well they told a great story during the quote and walk around the yard. After that it was horrible.
Description of Work: . They gave us a quote in late MArch, we paid half up front in mid-April, and it took them 6 weeks to come out to get the job done. Which BTW was some frekin pruning. I came home today to see an awful "prune" job. I mean we have 2 forsithyias in the back and in between is a mulched area with a bird bath. The bushes are giant and WAyyy overgrown. Anyway, one was pruned so much the bottom is all bare with just sticks, and the other dosent even look like it was touched... I called and left a message and sent the owner an email expressing my sadness and the fact the we want this fixed and do not expect to pay full price. Long story longer, he says they dont cut " perfect meatballs" and that their work is pruned "naturally". He refused to come back out to fix it and told me I got a bargain price in the first place. Guess my little $500 job was a waste of his time. In the end he said he would eat the cost of the 2nd half of the bill, but he wont fix the bushes. Then I get an invoice 10 minutes after I got off the phone for the second half of the work. Here was my response. "You just told me on the phone that I did not have to pay the balance. You also stated that you had no intentions on fixing the messed up job that your team did in the first place. I may also add you were quite rude. "His response: "We stand by the quality of the work. We will not prune meatballs no matter how threatening, rude and insistent you are. I told you to wait two or here weeks and you will see what I am talking about. These shrubs were rejuvenation pruned. They will look fine, of course not the one that is 1/3 dead already"... OMFG..My husband then decided to intervene... EMailed this guy and told him we would pay but spread the message... No one ever asked for meatballs...just wanted these bushes pruned ...Again he responds: We will not compromise our principles of quality no matter how insistent you are that you want symmetric meatballs" How redicioulus.. What a waste of time and money...Awful!!

Response from Sprigs & Twigs Inc
Sprigs & Twigs was contracted to do pruning on six shrubs on this customers property. The work was done by my senior pruners(two employees with Horticulture degrees and lots of pruning experience) and one cleanup helper. The homeowner returned home last night and fired off an angry, rude email that the shrubs are "hacked up...looked like trash and that she did not expect to pay" She was upset about the three forsythia and made no mention of the other shrubs that were part of the job. She complained that she wanted "evenly pruned bushes". I explained to her that: 1) we only do naturalistic pruning and no matter how insistant she was or how many rude emails she sent, we would not do "evenly pruned bushes" and that we do not do meatballs or lollipops, (this was explained to her when we quoted the job) 2) the forsythias were so out of control they needed severe rejeuvination pruning(cutting way back to inspire new growth) and one of them was 1/3 dead inside and that all the dead had to be cut out (hence the hole) 3) she should not worry in any case and in 2 or 3 weeks she would see the rejeuvination growth. I advised her to call me back at that time and we would talk further, 4) given that she was not happy she should not pay the invoice, although I stood behind the work and would not come back to smooth prune lollipops. Her husband then sent a final email that he WAS going to pay the invoice but that he was going to spread the word on the "botched" job and that he could have done a better job. He said "the job is unsatisfactory and NOT WHAT WE REQUESTED TO BE DONE". My final response to him was "We will not compromise our principles of quality no matter how insistent you are that you want symmetric meatballs". Postscript: There are a lot of landscapers out there that "prune" shrubs into cubes or meatballs with electric hedge trimmers and I suppose some customers, like this one, prefer that. Naturalistic puning is very different because it is all done carefully with hand pruners to make the shrubs look the way they grow in nature. Here is one customer that we obviously weren't clear enough when we quoted them just what naturalistic pruning is. That is a lesson learned to do a better job in customer education up front. If they decide to send a payment after all, I will return it since they are not happy.

I have 2 acres of land that has leaves and they blow them into the woods around. They do this because they are environmental friendly. They have a lot of machinery that works for a particular job. When they leave, everything is spotless with not a single leaf on the lawn and everything is vacuum sucked. They are very thorough and I would score them high across the board. I am going to give my shredder away and I'm going to use them again in the future.

It was a positive experience from the beginning. The estimator was very personable and he arrived on time and answered all our questions. The crew was also very friendly. They addressed our concerns over lawn damage when the tree was removed and proceeded to do the job very safely and professionally. There was no damage because they took precautions to place mats on the ground where the large tree sections were dropped. They cleaned up and left the site in excellent condition.

This was our first experience with them. It was a very, very positive experience. They were a ten out of a ten. They did the design first and we reviewed it and made some changes. They were easy to work with. We would absolutely use them again.

From proposal to final sweep up these people are polite, extremely knowledgeable in their fields and they aim to do a perfect job uncluding the final clean up. The arborists have studued their craft and practiced it for a long time. They are truly a "team". I could not ask for more. The fact that they have both large and the latest equipment plus a climber is a definate plus. Watching Boe hop from branch to branch is like watching a human squirrel. The spring clean up people came in like a swarm and weeded and edged and trimmed and mulched. There was always room for discussion as to what to take out and what to leave. One bush did not get trimmed because of the tiny bird's nest and subsequent babies. Gotta love people who love nature that much. My property is large and it was hard to know when to stop. Courtney and crew did more than expected. I would hire any of Sprigs and Twigs various crews again in spite of their very high prices.
Description of Work: Tree people took down one tree and a huge branch in an area that required a climber because large equipment could not reach. They did some other minor trimming and picked up some winter debris. The landscaping group did a through spring clean-up.

We could not be more pleased with the highly professional yet friendly service Sprigs and Trees gave us. They listened to what we wanted done, and then worked steadily, with less than a 15-minute break throughout the three-hour process. It's so nice to know that there are still competent, skilled workers, who obviously take pride in their work. We paid half the agreed-on price several weeks before the start-up date, and will pay the reminder when the company sends a bill. We highly recommend this company to anyone needing similar services.
Description of Work: A Sprigs and Twigs three-man crew cut and removed an old, extremely large white ash tree whose branches and leaves were encroaching on a neighbor's house. They also trimmed two large maple trees on our front lawn, and trimmed another maple that was alongside our driveway. In addition, as an extra request, they cut down and then pulled out the roots of an ancient, huge, tough-old shrub from the front of our house. When they finished the entire project, they removed every single cut-down branch and wood chip from our property, using everything from heavy equipment to a rake and a broom! This was all accomplished within a three-hour span.
