This assessment was shocking to read, especially since it was a year-and-a-half after the fact and during and since the work was done, there has been no hint of any issues. This report was written by Memebr, who was not present for much of the work described and not involved with most of the conversations about the various projects. I am the owner she refers to and virtually all of my contact was with her husband Member. Member and I had each other’s cell phones and personal and work email addresses and communication was frequent with both myself and my Office Manager who took several of his calls to make payments. We worked for this customer on 20 different occasions from May to October 2011 and did six types of work: 1) Lawn Care, Cleanup, Aeration, etc for about $1000 total, 2) Landscape Design developing a master plan for their property to be executed over a number of years $1,800, 3) Stonework – retaining wall construction and repair, patio construction, sitting wall construction and basement bulkhead door sealing, about $15,000, 4) Tree Service work (3 different occasions) about $5,400, 5) Regrading the backyard, adding top soil and running downspouts underground to the street and other discharge points, about $2,200, 6) removal of an old wooden deck, $900. The complaint that I (the owner) did not provide enough supervision when the deck was removed is simply not true. I was there the entire time and ran the job because it was a demo and was fun to do. I directed the deck cuts, the heavy machinery winching operations and defined the interface location for the stone patio. I discovered the bulkhead door that was buried under the deck and came up with the plan to repair the rusted out metal that was letting water into the basement and I also discovered a large cement platform that was buried under the deck by previous owners. I redesigned the patio with the masons to provide a sitting wall to cover the cement platform. I left the job site when the trucks were being loaded with the debris. I do not remember seeing Member at all throughout the process. She complains about our “young people” that were on the job. Other than myself, the people on that job were full time employees between the ages of 22 and 38, all college graduates and experienced with heavy equipment and landscaping. The job went flawlessly and the subsequent stone patio was excellent (see our website). Her complaint that “They didn't finish off the drains in the hopes of coming back and doing landscaping” is just not true. We completed the contracted work and installed underground 4” piping that took the downspout drains to the street and other discharge points in a typical manner. At the street end the customer had intended to install a stone wall in the future and our contract said that we would integrate the drain in the yet to be installed stone wall without charge. The wall was never installed and what is there now is a finished product. Her complaint that “They gave us an outrageous landscaping amount for our yard to do a small part”, is extremely misleading and misrepresents what we were contracted to do. The customer paid us to develop a master plan for their entire property. It was a massive job with over 530 perennials, shrubs and trees and included a transplanting plan, rock pathways, stone walls and stone patio design. It was to be executed in phases over a number of years. We charged them $1800 for the plan. Once we complete a design, the customer gets all of the design products, i.e., construction drawings and design materials and is under no obligation to hire us to do the installation and is welcome to hire whomever they would like. We are a national award winning design and installation company and this customer received a first class product. See our website for examples of our work. If a reader of Angie’s List would like to see what was done for this customer, I would be more than pleased to share it with you. Her complaint that “There was a whole (sic)(hole) in the guttering and the way that they drained it. I asked him about where they placed the drain things, he said they will come back and do that when they do more landscaping”. I have no idea what she’s talking about. We took the downspout drain from the discharge point underground to the street and to other discharge points, a straightforward job, no other work was intended or planned. Part of the future landscape installation was to add garden beds along the left side of the house, bring in top soil and grade the land toward the street. This work was never approved by the customer. Her complaint that “We did not want a lot of maintenance and we wanted a lot of evergreens”, is without basis in fact and exactly what she got. The first sentence of her garden design product stated the design included “Low maintenance, hearty plants throughout with demonstrated tolerance for your Sun-Full Shade environment.” Low-maintenance gardens are our specialty and the only thing we design. Also, there were a lot of evergreens (i.e., 45) in the design not counting a number of evergreens already on the property that were being transplanted into various places in the garden. In several conversations that I had with the husband, Member, in mid to late 2011 he explained that their master plan for the property was put on hold by money problems when he required surgery and they were unable to financially continue. He never threatened to stop payment on a check, always paid his bills and there was never a single complaint about quality. We actually expected that they would be in touch in the future to continue the work. As far as phone calls not being returned, while we are not perfect, we always, always return customer calls, immediately if we can. Member and I had each others cell phone numbers and email addresses and we communicated frequently that way. I do not recall ever speaking to Member other than initial meetings early in 2011. The comments written by this customer are an outrageous misrepresentation of the truth. I continue to be baffled why people wait years to mention that they are unhappy and choose to write in such a scathing, exagerated, untruthful way. There was never a hint of dissatisfaction from either Member at the time the work was being done.
