I called Ray's Appliance Repair because of the exceptionally high grades he got on Angie's List. In fact, I signed up for Angie's List specifically to find a reputable appliance repair person. My "regular" repair person was unable to determine the reason why my Whirlpool washer would not agitate and why it was producing a burning smell, so I needed to find someone with more experience and who would not rip me off. I called Ray on a Monday and got a call back from his son Scott later that day. Scott came on Tuesday, identified the major problem as being a failed motor, ordered the part and came back that Friday to install it. He did warn me that there was a possibility that another part was failing and that may have been the reason the motor failed. However, when he left, all was OK. Later that day, the machine starting making loud noises and I called Scott again. He came back on Saturday, identified the new failed part that had caused the motor to originally fail, and told me he may have a used part back at his shop that he would GIVE me at no charge. He also told me that if he didn't have the part and had to order one, he would give me the option of "cancelling" the whole engagement whereby he would remove the new motor from the washer and return the money I had originally paid him. He made it clear that he did not want the repair of my washer to become so expensive that it would have been better to just buy a new one. I thought this was an incredible gesture on Scott's part. But even more so, while he was at my house on Saturday he replaced a number of other parts that were failing or appeared to be on its last legs, also at NO CHARGE. Scott called me as soon as he got back to his shop to tell me he DID have this part. He came back to my house to install it on Monday at no charge other than a minimal house call cost. The washer has been working great ever since, and it's been three months. SCOTT, MY APOLOGIES FOR TAKING SO LONG TO WRITE THIS WELL-DESERVED REVIEW. In summary, I would 100% recommend Scott and Ray to anyone wanting to hire an incredibly competent, responsive, and reasonably priced appliance repair service.

First of all he was punctual which I was quite surprise for the speedy response.. He was very friendly and professional. He diagnosed the problems and identified the parts that had to replaced. Less than a hour he completed the work and he actually cleaned after the job was completed. Wow it was incredible. That's what I call SERVICE! Thank you so much

Our Frigidaire dishwasher stopped draining, so on a Monday we called two appliance repair companies that were recommended to us by a friend. One company wouldn't even book us because they said they were too busy. The other company booked us on Friday and didn't give a time window. We waited all day Friday until we called and they said that they were not going to be able to come out to us and that we should call the next day, Saturday, to see when they could come. Because we were worried that it would be another day of waiting we immediately looked on Angies List and found Ray's Appliance Repair. I called them that Friday evening and Ray picked up. He walked me through some steps to make sure that there wasn't a clog or an easy fix to the problem. After trying a couple of things (with Ray on the phone) I told him that we just wanted to make an appointmet because we still hadn't had any luck. He booked us for Monday between 1-3pm and even agreed to call us before coming over so that my husband could be here on time. (On Saturday the other company said they couldn't come until Monday as well and that we would have to call back Monday morning to get an estimate of when they might be able to come out. At this point I cancelled with them and told them we were all set.) Scott called my husband 10 minutes before arriving and was here promptly at 1pm. He spent about 45 minutes working on the dishwasher but only charged us for coming out and the initial 30 minutes that are included in that price. During this visit he pulled out 4 Farberware labels and a rusted screw from the motor/impeller of the machine. The machine drained but Scott warned us that the motor had been compromised and gave us a few options for what we could about it. We decided that having him order and install the part was more cost effective than waiting for the machine to die and buying a new one. Therefore he ordered the part and called us when it came in. He came back to our house a little less than 2 weeks after the original visit and arrived within the time window he had indicated. He spent about 20 minutes replacing the part and tested the machine to make sure it worked properly, which it did. The best part is that my husband accidentally overpaid Scott because he misheard the cost (and didn't look at the bill/receipt). A couple of hours later Ray called my husband and let him know about the mistake on our check. He explained that he'd cash the check and send us a reimbursement check for the amount that we overpaid! I have no doubt that we will receive that reimbursement soon. We would definitely use Ray's Appliance Repair again and highly recommend them because of their quality work, punctuality, professionalism, and honesty.

The machine drained but he warned us that the motor had been compromised and gave us a few options for next steps. We decided to have him order the part and install it, which is what he did on the second visit.

Repairman (Ray's son) showed up right on time. Went straight to work. Knew immediately what was wrong and how to fix it. He also explained what happened and why. He knew his stuff and was a pleasure to work with. I felt that the service charge was very fair. Fridge has been working fine ever since. Will definitely use them again.

He was ON TIME - something that has become exceedingly rare! It turned out that the casing to the water filter was cracked but you couldn't see it unless it was under pressure. He tested it twice to be sure. He had to order a new casing and came back two days later to install it. The price includes the casing which is fairly expensive because it's Samsung.

Our side-by-side fridge/freezer was leaking water underneath the freezer side. My initial call was returned within a couple of hours, and he was at my house the next day. He had asked me a lot of questions on the phone and thus had a good idea of what the problem was. After looking at the fridge, he carefully explained what was causing the problem and what he was going to do to fix it. He accurately estimated the amount of time it would take to repair (less than a half hour) and what the cost would be. Very knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and he even happily answered the unrelated questions I asked about my washing machine. He arrived a few minutes after the end of the two-hour window in which he said he'd arrive, but he called to let me know he was running late. I'd highly recommend Ray's Appliance Repair.

The technician was running late, but kept us informed. The part had to be ordered and then he was very prompt installing it. Unfortunately, the fan was making a bit of a noise so he had to come back and make an adjustment. We were pleased with the service and would use them again. They offered a discount for Angie's members.

I called Scott, because our tenant's oven would not heat up to the set temperature. He called the client at my request and set up an appointment to check out the oven the next day. He called me that same evening to explain that the oven needed a new board - and the cost varied significantly depending on the supplier. Scott worked to get me the best price, called me when the part arrived, and then coordinated with my tenant again to install the part within a day. We appreciate the reliable service, and my tenant commented on Scott's positive attitude and professional demeanor. We will be calling him for all of our appliance repair needs.

Excellent service. Showed up when he said he would. Was able to quickly diagnose the problem. Tried a few fixes to see if we could avoid getting a new part. Ran several partial cycles to see if these cheaper fixes were sufficient. When we realized the drainage tube needed to be replaced, he cleaned and dried it all up. He ordered the part and within a few days he was back to install the new part. He was professional and the problem is solved.
Description of Work: Washing Machine was not spinning out the water. He was able to diagnose the problem, Clean out the debris in the drainage tubes and cleaned up the area when he was done. He had to order the part but came back when the part was in to fix it and test it. Works fine now.

Simply by asking the brand name of the appliance, he (Ray) was able to diagnose to probable cause. I have an Amana Bottom Freezer Refrigerator, now 10 years old. This appliance has never given me a minute?s problem. The night before when I opened the freezer I saw ICE on top of the Ice Cream lid and all the boxes had that ?funky wet but frozen? look. The Ice Cream (always a good indicator of a problem) although frozen had Ice crystals throughout. i then noticed the compressor wasn?t kicking on. It was 94 degrees in the kitchen with high humidity. First thing the next morning, I went on line to Angie?s List. I found Ray?s Appliance Repair had a very high rating and no negative concerns, but what struck me was the number of A.L. members from my community and general area that had experience with ?Ray?s?. There has to be 25 to 35 miles (back road vs. highway) from there to here, and as many appliance repair services. Hummmm said I, so I gave Ray a call. Ray himself answered the phone, we talked about my cleaning routine. I vacuum and brush (long skinny special brush) under the fridge from the front about once a month and a few times a year I remove the panel on the back and do the same. Ray thought the ?Clock was off?? Meaning, the fan wasn?t going on at the correct time. It lost its rhythm. ?Refrigerators have onboard heaters. They're low-wattage, but refrigerator heaters are very convenient and effective at doing everything from heating the evaporator coils to melt any accumulated frost, to keeping the butter chilled but not so cold that you'll need a chain saw to cut through it." 1 Ray was very patient while I looked in all the usual spots for a reset button, its one of those stupid buttons in a hole things. Time to get the bobby pins! Anyway I found it hidden behind the lamp assembly in the freezer? Yea, the manufacture really made this difficult. Well, I re-set the little button, the fan came on, and all is right with the world again (wouldn?t that be nice). The point is, Ray could have said, ?well, we?re going to need to send someone out there, I don?t have anyone free till Tuesday, and we charge $150.00 just to show up (this is Connecticut)? Now that would be reasonable, but he didn?t! Instead, he walked me through the operation on ?speaker phone?, and we got the job done! There? no charge?Ta Da! I now love Ray, and I told my daughter to put him in her phone book and her neighbors, since she lives in Bristol anyway. 1 How Refrigerators Work by Marshall Brain and Sara Elliott

We have a side by side Frigidaire Pro; model year 2009. Our refrigerator stopped working over the weekend (fridge cooling to 58; freezer cooling to 37)--we called Ray's Appliance and left a message on Sunday. They called back when they were open on Monday to find out our schedule and then called back to let us know what time someone could come out, giving us a 2-hour window. He arrived on time that same day, and spent about 10 minutes at our house--he let us know that it had stopped working because of all the ice build up on the back of the fridge and hypothesized that it was some aspect of the defroster. We had to unplug the fridge for 12 hours to allow the ice to melt, turn it back on, so he set up a return time for Wednesday--giving us a 15 minute window for what time he would arrive. We weren't charged for the service call on Monday. He returned Wednesday (within the 15 minute window), ran diagnostic tests, confirmed that it was the defroster limiter, and replaced it. Found him to be professional, prompt, and efficient.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and repaired broken defrost limiter on the refrigerator.

Ray's Appliance Repair is excellent. He's very reasonable and very honest. He's an awesome guy. I called and talked to him over the phone and he was pretty straight forward. He asked me if I could give him the information on my appliance like the serial number and all that before he even came out because he said that he'll come out, not knowing the appliance then having to come back again, he would have to charge and the cost would go up. He said to do some research on the appliance then he will call me back. He came over, he was very friendly and he took a look at it. I even asked him a couple of questions about my other refrigerator ad he didn't even charge me for that. He didn't look at it but we talked about it. He got 6 customers from me ultimately. He's a great guy. I don't know if he works by himself but it's a small business.

He came out on Friday and checked out my washer. Needed a new pump. Told me he would call me when he went back to office to give me a price so I could decide to fix it or not. Decided to fix it and he ordered the part. Called me as soon as part came in and set up an appointment. Repair was done, works great. Very friendly and professional. The repair tech came about 5 minutes after the 2 hour window given. He did not have the exact replacement part on his truck but was able to use a new dryer heating element and attach it to the existing bracket. The process took an extra 15 minutes. The dyer works fine. He was very professional and fixed the dryer. He did mention that if he needed to order the part there would be an additional service charge. I had other repairs that needed parts ordered and don't remember an additional service charge. The next time I need an appliance serviced I will inquire about their policy if a part needs to be ordered.

The bearings were shot, so we were expecting to have him replace them. But he said that there was no point spending any more money on the dryer.
Description of Work: Scott from Ray's talked us out of a repair for our GE dryer, instead recommending that we buy a new one. He was very honest about the problems with the dryer - even doing himself out of a repair job. We really appreciated that he took the time to suggest several brands of dryer to shop for, including key features like a top-side lint filter. When he was done explaining, we really understood what to look for. Then he said to call him if we had questions while shopping for the new dryer. We really appreciated his honest advice (yeah, Angie's List) and will certainly call him for any other appliance repairs.

The friendly voice on the other end assured me with a very knowledgeable explanation, to plug it back in. He gave me some steps to follow which I did, while he was still on the phone. He did not want me to incur any expenses of repair work which could cost more than the purchase of a new one. After doing the simple test and passing, my microwave should last a few more years! For some unknown reason it needed to reboot itself due to a brief malfunction. As he suggested, I'll keep my eye on it, should I need to, I have his phone # near by. His honesty and work ethics speaks volumes . So many are out to find a way to scam you, that it's refreshing when you find a business that prides itself on integrity. I feel Ray's Appliance Repair saved me several hundreds of dollars. I will definitely contact them again for any appliance repair.

.I want to right this supportive review of Ray's Appliance Repair not only for what they did but for what they didn't do -i.e charge me a expensive service call for what could be fixed over the phone. I thought I had a broken range and based on what I told Scott over the phone, he had me check several things related to the power supply first. We had several phone calls and texts where he led me through the checks that ended up solving the problem. The result... My range works and I did not get charged for an expense service call. They were helpful, honest and best of all trustworthy. I would no hesitation in using them again. Trust is a rare commoddity in the serivce industry and Ray's Appliance has earned mine

I contacted Ray's late in the evening via Angie's list and asked them to coordinate with our tenant regarding a non-working microwave. The very next morning, Ray's did just that. I provided my tenant with a check, expecting to pay for the repair. The repairman was punctual and professional. He met with my tenant during lunchtime and examined my tenant's microwave. The repairman then called me to explain that it needed an expensive part. He gave my tenant the check back, and suggested that I call GE to see if they would repair it under warranty, and if not, it would be cheaper to buy a new one. I called GE and they wanted to charge me over $150 for the part. Ray's was right on, and I appreciated their honesty as well as the free service call! I would definitely call Ray's again for future appliance repair needs.

Overall, my experience with Ray's was good. I liked the fact that, before they came out to my home, and after inquiring about my problem, they did some research on my refrigerator to try to determine the solution to the problem. I also like the fact that they stayed in communication with me throughout the entire process - from communicating the solution, to ordering and receiving the part, to setting up a date/time to do the repair work. The only concern I have is that it appears their travel time - they're in Bristol and I'm in Bloomfield- was more that I would have hoped was factored into their costs. However, I chose them because I thought their reviews by other customers were superior to the other repair facilities that I had researched. Overall, I was very satisfied.
