I can see why PHF has such a great score and i am glad I selected them to do the job. Cristin contacted me within the hour of calling them looking for quote. We agreed on a price and they were there first thing in the morning the next day. They did a great job on the flooring and trim and left the room and work area spotless. They work they performed was on my old house which i am preparing to sell but I already have PHF in mind for the spring when i will like to have the floors at my new house refinished. I cannot stress enough how PHF should be the first company that anyone searching on Angies List should call for flooring.

Cristhian and his guys did excellent work. They were hard working, professional and knowledgeable. He and his team started work on Memorial Day to make sure the work would be done in time for us to move in the following weekend. When our previous floor refinisher retired, we were at a loss for the final room in our home. The floor in this room became dark with age from the old finish and in need of border replacement along the entry threshold. We contacted several floor refinishing companies for this task. We either got no quote or a no confidence feeling from them. Then we turned to Angie's List (we should have done this straightaway!) and found PHF. The reviews sold us. Cristhian Macias, the owner, showed up on time for his quote appointment. From the outset, he gave us the confidence that he could do the repairs and refinishing in a professional manner. PHF arrived as scheduled and immediately set out to repair and replace the distressed area. They sanded and applied the first coat and left the work area clean. The two subsequent visits were on time and the floor looks superb! We are very pleased with the service performed by PHF and would not hesitate to employ them in the future. He was awesome. It was not the lowest price I had received but it's very comparable to the lowest price and the quality is awesome. He was just really friendly and easy to work with. They cleaned up really well. They were here. They were in and out very quickly. He was nice to work with. I'd grade them an A.

When you hire Cristhian Maccias to do your hardwood floors, you're getting much more than a hardwood floor contractor: You're getting an artist. From the minute he walked into the home we'd just bought, I could see his mind and eyes racing to put together an aesthetic for the rooms we'd selected. Within 5 minutes, he'd made a number of helpful suggestions which, far from elevating costs, helped contain them while building in smart contemporary flourishes that would enhance the look of our house. But that was just the beginning. Cristhian spent a lot of time at our house, working up ideas, helping us understand the implications of those ideas, addressing all of our questions, and navigating us beyond the limits of our conceptions about what hardwood flooring could do for a given room. Once he generated a quote, Cristhian spent a lot of time addressing our questions and working with us to get to the right set of services at the right price. Let me be clear: We asked a TON of questions--some even repetitive ones--and Cristhian was just so kind, polite, and professional through the whole process. By comparison, I called some of the other guys mentioned at the top of the hardwood flooring list on this site and I will tell you that NONE of them would have had the patience to deal with us. Two of them, in fact, were downright rude when I plied them with questions. So, when I say that Cristhian was just such a pleasure to deal with, I'm speaking from a pretty solid base of experience. When we finally agreed on all the details, Cristhian commenced work. Let me repeat that: CRISTHIAN commenced work. He maintains a small crew so he can control quality, and he does a good part of the work himself. The artist--the guy with the vision for our place--did the work. Think Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel: The artist is doing the work. This is a VERY good thing. A few other things before I relate the outcome: (1) Cristhian always showed up on time. (2) Cristhian and his crew worked late just because they didn't want to interrupt crucial work phases Said Cristhian to me once, "I like this house and what I'm building. I don't want to leave." He wasn't kidding. (3) If Cristhian encountered an unexpected challenge, he related it to me and we worked through it. (4) The quoted price was equal to the final price... (5) ... But Cristhian delivered MORE VALUE for that price than initially promised. Example: He didn't like the look of the risers on our stairs once he'd stained them. He detected grey color in the bannister that he felt we were missing in the risers so he mixed up a stain that would bring that grey to the risers. Additional cost: ZERO. (6) Cristhian is the genuine article. He's a good human being who cares about the quality of his work. In fact, even when I told him I was pleased with his work and ready to give him his final payment, he refused to take it. He said that HE wasn't satisfied, that there was more to be done, and when he was done, he would accept payment. Additional cost for the extra work he thought was necessary: ZERO. That's integrity. (7) Cristhian completed the work in exactly the period he promised. Okay, so let's get to outcome. Here are some quotations from friends and family that have walked into the house: "This is the most beautiful floor I have ever seen. I need this guy's name." "Ugh. Ours don't look anywhere near this good." "You should never ever step on this. It is amazing." "I look at this room and I want to cry. It is that good." "AWESOME!" And there were lots more. As for cost, Cristhian's pricing is VERY competitive. He'll work with you to get you a price that accords with the value. He was definitely less expensive than the other guys I looked at. Final thoughts: If you're looking for a contractor to put in flooring and don't much care what it looks like, you've got plenty of choices. If you're looking for a guy who will care as much about the finished product as you do, if you're looking for an artist whose hands and eyes are trained to create an harmonious flow of shape and color, if you're looking to make something beautiful, then go with Cristhian Maccias of Professional Hardwood Flooring.

During the whole process the team was extremely responsive and easy to work with. I've had bad experience with the communication with contractors in the past, but thats not the case here. On top of this, they where easy to work with and got the job done on schedule. I highly recommend them for anyone in Hartford County.

WOW! We could not be any happier with the experience and the beautiful results in our house. We received an immediate call back and met out at our new house right away following our initial call. Having never refinished wood floors before, we needed lots of advice and got good explanations and suggestions during the whole process. There were some repairs that needed to be done to remove stains on the wood floor and damaged sections. It was all repaired perfectly. I visited the house yesterday after the work was completed and the resullts are spectacular.

Mr. Cristhian Macias and Steve from Professional hardwood flooring came out to installed my bamboo flooring on May 9th. I am so very much please about the job they did they are truly professionals at what they do, they take so much interest and care in what they do, Christhian the owner was very detailed and was very informative he include me in the process ask me if i had any questions he went beyond and above to make sure that all the squeaking floor was fixed. I am looking forward to have them come back to do another room and i will surely recommend them a 100% and more. The service provided was excellent. When I had made the initial call, Christian (owner) came to my house and inspected the area area the same day. He also gave me a very reasonable estimate and provide a lot of useful information about scope and preparation that the job would entail. I appreciated his advice as I am a new homeowner and did not know much about installing hardwood. After shopping around a little more I realized that he was being honest with his quote and description of the work detail. I therefore hired PHF and have no regrets till today. They came back a month later and took two days to complete the job. I also appreciated how meticulously the cleaned up after themselves and how respectful they were of my property. I would definitely rehire them if I ever wanted to add more hardwood to this house in the future. Every guest who has entered my home has complimented the floors....every guest and even other contractors give these floors "two thumps up".

Very professional and conscientious. This was a big job. When I had a meltdown erroneously, Christhian handled the situation with diplomacy. Everyone who sees the floors asks who did them; they look amazing.

I was impressed with the detail of the quote and how all my options were explained and an estimate for each individual part of the job was given. Overall the work went well. A couple of spots on the stairs could be better, but otherwise it is a good job. The work was hassle free.

1 st day started floors placed first coat Contacted and talked about the way finished looked . Was told would look bettter 2sec coat was applied still didn't like way floors looked agreed to pay for 4 coat after being told would look a like better. 3 rd coat was applied and needed to dry more before finish coat was applied. I was able to walk on floors at this point and found 6 places that never got a coat of finished. and noticed swirl marks in floors from buffing between coats ,also notice dips in wood floors from edging sanders . was upset but agreed to have final coat put down ,a section coving appx. 3-4 boards and about 6' long was missed in the middle of living room floor. I looked at a floor he was doing and it looked nothing like the way my floors came out . WOULD NOT RECKAMEND HIM. VERY Dissatisfied with outcome of floor dean

...Now i have to find another contractor to finish the master bedroom Since we were living in this house we could not do all the rooms at once without removing all the furniture out of the house. we, both me and the contractor decided easiest way was to move all bedroom furniture into the master bedroom and dining room furniture into the living room.... and he would come back in a few weeks to complete the master bedroom floor. I have left messages at both his office and cell phone....AT LEAST 10 CALLS.. NO RETURN CALLS.... NATTA I would not trust Professional ?????? hardwood flooring to do any work for me again. DON"T TAKE A CHANCE>....

Wanting a quote, I left two detailed phone messages with the provider and also went on his website to request a quote. A week later, I have still not received any response from him whatsoever.

PHF was contracted about 7 months in advance so the work could be done while we were on vacation. All contact was thru the owner Cristhian Macias. He provided a very detailed estimate which was competitive with 2 other estimates I received. The work started exactly as planned and was completed on time. It took seven working days and everything came out terrific. Cristhian pays attention to the details and I would use definitely use PHF again.

I was expecting the worse when the carpet was pulled up but the floors, although dirty and some covered with splatters of paint, were in good condition. The crew did a great job in getting the job done. Sometimes start times weren't always exact but they were coming from a long distance and dealt with traffic. They met our expectations and would use them again. I will try to include before and after photos.

Chris came on the planned Friday to sand back down to the wood, correct issues, and refinish the 850 square feet of flooring. He said that he was going to do the sanding, the sealer, and two coats of polyurethane that Friday. This was not only different from the schedule we were given but far to aggressive. We were using Bona products: DTS Sealer, 1 coat Mega, 2 coats Traffic. The Bona products are supposed to dry for 2-3 hours prior to the next coat. Chris only waited an hour or less between coats. He got away with this by putting down very, very light coats. Fortunately he ran out of time that first day and didn't put down a third coat. No one, including the manufacturer, recommends more then two coats in a single day. Chris came back that Monday and put down the other two coats of waterborne polyurethane. So, in less than a day and a half Chris totally sanded and refinished our 850 square feet of floor! What we were left with from Chris's rush job was: new waves from Chris's sanding (these were at an angle to floor which was not a technique used by the previous flooring contractor), dish out/bumps at board ends from previous flooring contractor not fixed, holes/gaps/knots not refilled after sanding took out filler, places on floor with little or no polyurethane, humps and sanding lines from hand sanding around floor edges, and polyurethane on adjacent floor tile. When these items where brought to Chris's attention he tried to say the waves were not his, he said that he didn't fill, and that the floor was the best it would be and left. I have to say that we were very surprised at both the job and attitude we got from Chris especially after reading all the great reviews he has. We know that he fit us in between jobs as at one point Chris said he had another job to get to. We can only guess that Chris, who had not previously worked with our general contractor before, thought he could make some quick money and get away with a quick in and out job. After all the problems we had with the previous flooring contractor it was very disappointing to end up with someone else who seemed to care more for making a quick buck then doing a good job.

The owner (Christhian Macias) and his crew were very pleasant and professional. Mr. Macias responded to e-mails promptly and kept in close contact throughout the duration of the job. The cost was competitive. There was some delay (the job was finished three days after originally projected), but this was partly due to wet / humid weather. We are very pleased with the quality of the workmanship and would recommend PHF to others.

We started refinishing the floors ourselves, but our moving date got moved up and we realized we would not be able to finish them in time. Cristhian responded to my inquiry the same day and was even able to come to the house that day to give me a quote. We had run the drum sander over all the floors and needed the sanding finished, as well as application of the stain and finishes. He was very professional and willing to answer all questions. His crew started work on the day we requested and even arrived early. They were able to sand the floors and remove the marks that the drum sander made from our first pass. They then applied the Duraseal stain and 4 coats of water-based finish per Cristhian's recommendation ( 2 of Bona Mega and 2 of Bona Traffic HD). They did the work in 2 days! The floors came out very nice, much nicer than I think we would have achieved had we tried to finish them on our own. Cristhian was always responsive and took great pride in his work. The owner, Christian, was very responsive, professional and forthright with me throughout the entire process. His estimate was given to me the day I called him and he was able to accommodate my request to do the work while I was away for a week. During the four days of his working on my floors he emailed me daily to update me on the status of the job, which I found to be extremely helpful and great customer service. Upon my return home I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of his work. He corrected scuffs, water damage, and many other issues with the floors since they were long overdue for refinishing. I'm extremely satisfied with the job that was done and with Christian's superb customer service. I highly recommend him and will gladly give him any other wood floor work that I may have in the future.
