+ 4 moreWe bought the fixtures ourselves and they did the installation. They contracted the electrical. They had a fellow who did the floor and also did a little carpentry work to cover the pipes that were in a corner in our basement. We felt that they did a poor job. They contracted a guy to do the floor and it was just the most sloppy tile job we have ever seen and the carpentry work was crude. There was no problem with the electrical work. Being a plumbing company, they contracted for the electrical and the floor. The plumbing too was not okay. We were not happy with the plumbing. The exhaust wasn't put in properly from the room. It is a windowless room and it had to have an exhaust and the spacing was not right.
Description of Work: Ben Franklin Plumbing came out a little over a year ago and installed a powder room. They put in a new toilet, a new sink, a floor, a ceiling, and light fixtures. They did electrical work as well as plumbing work.

+ -1 moreI got the guy to show me how to disassemble the old valve. The actual problem, as far as I can tell (I'm not a plumber), was flakes of hard water deposit and a tear in what could at max be a $5.00 gasket. Ben Franklins invoice has a very simple price structure. There were only five standard prices: $99.,$189.,$209., and $397. for lots of common plumbing jobs. Mine was a 3. A man from Ben Franklin Plumbing called me and was concerned about my rating. I explained it was due to the pricing and I don't like flat rate pricing. His idea of flat base pricing makes sense with intention of growth. Hourly rates probably wouldn't work for them. As he pointed out the person who has the highest rates is the slowest guy. I feel given his goals for the company that his rating system makes sense. During our entire conversation he was very polite and seemed like an honest and straightforward gentleman.
Description of Work: Installed new fill valve & float assembly in toilet. Old valve suddenly started filling tank at a trickle rather than at its usual full speed, i.e., it worked fine the night before, but in the morning it only trickled. Representative came on time, was very courteous, explained pricing, & seems to have done quality work. But company is a flat-fee, replace-the-whole-assembly outfit, not a parts-plus-labor contractor. No matter how hard I tried, he would only replace the old assembly, not take it apart & diagnose the problem. Even when I said it happened suddenly, he would not relent. As a result I had to pay $209.00, plus the $49.00 show-up fee for a job that took at best 20 mins. to do. Even assuming the parts were $100 total, that's $330./hour for labor. (You can't count travel time because they charge the $49.00 for that).
