We can't say enough good about this company. We started our project in the fall. We had Lindsay come out to measure and give us a quote. She was very informative and professional. We decided to go with DMD because of the impression made by Lindsey and by the information given to us. They had the perfect solution to our needs. Also, we had several other estimates prior to DMD and we were very leery of those companies. It seemed like the other quotes were sales pitches with little or no concern over our needs. Once we confirmed our order we were given a timeline for the windows to come in and for the installer to be scheduled. The process went just as described to us and the timing was perfect. We had wonderful installers and we felt very comfortable with them in our home. There were some concerns about some of the old windows that had leaked onto the framing of the window and the installers called us to show us instead of just covering up the damage from the old windows. We were able to schedule a repair and make sure that all was good before the window was installed. All windows look and function very well. We are so very please with our decision to work with DMD Windows. I am normally very skeptical about hiring services because I have been taken advantage of before. It takes a lot to impress me and to make me comfortable and confident in a business. I have no reservations in recommending DMD Windows to anyone who needs windows or building services. Thank you Lindsay and all of the installers and staff at DMD!I feel very lucky to have chosen DMD through Angie's List.

When Bill came out to give the estimate, he listened to my concerns and discussed options for the south facing windows that take a beating from the Colorado sun. He provided information regarding the different types of windows and the pros and the cons about each. He was prompt with providing and estimate and was able flexible with narrow window of dates I was available for the installation. Eric installed the windows and did a great job. He and his helper kept the dust down to a minimum, were always professional and did a fantastic job paying attention to the details. I would recommend them to anyone looking to replace windows. They gave a high quality service for an excellent price.

I am building a wonderful mountain house. Jeff took the time to work with me doing all the take offs from the architectural plans. We discussed all the lines of windows, why some lines should be used in some places, and there was no attempt at up-sale, just honest input. He was great and really knew his products. On top of the take-offs, he worked with me to ensure the correct glazing for a passive solar house. We sat down and discussed the angle of the sun during different seasons, how each window should allow heat or not, etc. On top of the ordering process, when it was time for them to deliver, he took the time to drive the 2.5 hours to come help deliver and ensure I was happy with everything. He has gone above and beyond on all fronts. I will be sure to call DMD when it is time to build the barn. This was my second time using them, the first was windows for a remodel on my current home in Denver. That also went flawless where DMD was involved. Construction is full of problematic contractors. DMD is an oasis in the industry, use them and relax.

All of the work was performed by a single carpenter, Eric, who is extremely professional and highly skilled in all aspects of this project. He began each day's work by laying down dropcloths over the route from our front door to the work site, and vacuumed up before leaving in the evening. I've done some carpentry, and I was impressed by the care Eric took to get it right the first time and with how quickly he got each task done. He also conferred with both of us on how best to resolve several inevitable unexpected hurdles, and we were able to achieve a consensus solution quite nicely. The total project took about 1/2 day longer than the original estimate of 3-4 days, but part of that was Eric's having to design the bay window skeleton using the Impervia windows, for which Pella had not yet developed a boilerplate design. Like Biil, Eric also had a good eye for what would look good and integrate aesthetically with the existing home features. We are delighted with Eric's work and the fact that Bill's final invoice was exactly what he quoted, despite some extra materials and effort not originally anticipated.
Description of Work: Replaced seven original 1967-vintage aluminum windows and storms with Pella Impervia fiberglass models. This work included replacement of one 6' x 6' picture window with a 3-pane bay window with a window seat and re-mounting an existing roll-up awning to clear the new bay window. The work also included lowering the existing sills in 3 rooms to conform with new egress code requirements. DMD Builders was picked from a field of thee bidders based on our impression that Biil McFarlane, President, who visited our home and created our quote, was quite knowledgeable in remodeling, and even talked us out of our rather kluged-up scheme to avoid remounting the awning. One of the other bidders was unable to do the bay window, and the other did not seem to have Bill's experience and eye for what would look good and work well.

We first saw Amerimax windows at one of the home shows. Bill came to our house to measure the windows and discuss installation. It was important to us to replace the windows with a 'new construction style' window with a nailing flange and Bill said that would be no problem. We also requested that exterior trim be replaced around two of the windows and new exterior trim be install around the third window to allow new windows with the flange to be installed. Bill took the time to answer all our questions about the windows and installation. Bill provided the quote in the time frame he promised and the quote was detailed, professional, and easy to understand. We were concerned whether the Amerimax single-hung windows would meet the Douglas county egress window requirements because our existing windows just met the opening requirement and the Amerimax windows have a beefier frame (thus slightly reducing the operating opening). Bill researched the egress requirement and found that the Amerimax windows would meet the egress opening requirement by using the block and tackle mechanism. At that point we ordered the windows. The only slight negative was that we had to initiate contact to get an update on our order status, but Bill responded quickly. We worked with Bill to coordinate the installation date and Bill was flexible and able to adjust the date to meet our needs. Our installer, Eric, was fantastic. Before he started, he explained a couple of options on how he could install and seal the windows and got our input to make sure we would be happy. He put down a tarp to protect our carpet. Eric did a very professional job installing the windows. He cleaned up when he was done, and the windows look great! We are very happy with the windows and the overall result.
Description of Work: DMD replaced 5 existing single-hung windows with Amerimax single-hung windows. The 5 windows consisted of 2 double windows and 1 single window.

My sincere apology to DMD Window & Door by DMD BUILDERS for a review I posted briefly last week in which I miscommunicated that the quote I received did not include the Angie's List discount. Prior to posting my review, I had not examined the quotes closely enough and did not see the last line of print at the bottom of the page that said the quotes did indeed include the discount. I intended no harm or distress but simply made an error. I hope my error can be forgiven.

Response from DMD Window & Door
The trigger was pulled with our attorney the morning after this member posted her libelous statements about our interaction at her home and the resulting quotes that were sent to her. The statements she made may have not intended to harm, as she states, but we have a thirty-eight year reputation for excellence in the window replacement industry to defend. It’s surprising that this member wouldn’t have assumed that we would defend our reputation with everything we have since it’s the way that we feed and clothe our children. The “last line of print at the bottom of the page” that she references in her statement is on the front page of every quote we sent, followed by page after page of hand-crossed-out full list prices for each window, and then the 25% discounted prices handwritten in beneath each crossed-out full price. It’s amazing that she wouldn’t have slowed down for just one minute to consider why we had crossed the full list prices off and written in ones that were 25% lower prior to posting a defamatory review on Angie’s List. To answer her inquiry about whether her error can be forgiven I don’t think so, at least not at this point. It may reassure the member to know that our attorney has not been back in touch with us recently about the situation, (we haven’t been calling the attorney about the situation either) which leads me to believe that the calculations estimating the monetary damages caused by the member’s libelous statements may not warrant full-blown execution of a defamation suit at this time. After all, the member’s defamatory comments were only posted on Angie’s List for twenty-six hours. In sitting down to ponder a response to this post I realized that I have been looking at the situation from an entirely negative angle. No one wants to pursue legal action except when necessary to protect one’s livelihood. This will be the first time in thirty-eight years of doing business in Colorado that we have been forced to take legal action against someone, and all we did was supply this member with free estimates. I came to the conclusion that we could potentially turn this negative situation into a positive one, at least partially so, by speaking a little about the differences between extruded and pultruded window and door products, as I believe this member went with an extruded-framed window product made by Renewal By Andersen. The Renewal By Andersen product is made of Fibrex, which is a patented material made from the wood waste and leftover vinyl from manufacturing Andersen’s wood clad products (the A-Series, the Woodwright, the 200 and 400 Series). The wood waste is made into particles and the vinyl scraps (along with proprietary “polymers”) are melted down and pumped through a die the same way that a vinyl window is made. Sales representatives from Renewal will go on & on about how many “channels” are in their frame and how much additional thermal efficiency you gain from these channels when compared to other windows. Please keep in mind that the Renewal By Andersen windows and doors achieve the same U-Factor ratings (around a .30) as many other windows on the market regardless of the material that they are made of. So don’t let their talk of “channels” in the frame material sway you. Every composite and vinyl window on the market uses multiple channels in their frame construction. They must in order to achieve the U-Factors required to pass building inspections. Renewal offers a “wood-look” interior on their Fibrex composite windows. It is a thin veneer of wood that is glued onto the Fibrex. Keep this in mind if you ever think that you may be sanding and refinishing your windows, again, the veneer is thin. I do not know for sure if this member went with the wood-look interior on her Renewal windows, but part of the reason for the last email I sent her (before her defamatory review was posted) was that I was expressing concern about her going with a product that only has a wood veneer on the interior- I was pricing the Milgard pultruded-framed fiberglass product that also can be ordered with an interior wood veneer. This member has birds that fly around her home and eat her wood windows. Yes that’s right, her birds eat her windows. That was part of the reason I was there in the first place, her birds had devastated her current windows and we were attempting to formulate a solution so that her new windows would be more bird-resistant. We even discussed cladding the interior of her new windows with custom-bent metal to prevent bird damage. I believe the last statement I made in the final email I sent to her warned her that if she went with a wood-veneered-interior product (from any company) that the birds could easily tear off chunks of the veneer and then she would have patches of fiberglass (in the case of Milgard’s product) or Fibrex (in the case of Renewal’s product) showing through on her brand new windows. I didn’t want her to be angrily calling me two weeks after we finished the job complaining about how her new windows were damaged and had the wood veneer torn off in places. I was doing my best to help her to find a product that was going to fit her needs, no matter how intricate or custom those needs might be. That’s what I do is find people window & door solutions. I don’t mean to solely speak negatively about Renewal By Andersen’s products. I just decided that I would take this opportunity, on an open forum like Angie’s List, to discuss the disadvantages of an extruded-framed product when compared to a pultruded-framed product. We like educated consumers, and we like when people achieve their individual goals with the right product being installed in their homes. I would like to say one more thing about Renewal By Andersen before I move on to pultruded products: Please keep in mind that the Renewal By Andersen salespeople only offer the Renewal By Andersen product. Of course they are going to push hard for you to commit to their product, it’s the only product that they sell. A company like ours offers hundreds of products from dozens of manufacturers, so we don’t need to push you into one product or another. We install the right product from the right manufacturer to meet your needs in your home. Pultrusion is a method of manufacturing window frame material. Most often these windows are called “fiberglass-framed” windows because the material that emerges on the other side of the pultrusion machine is linear fiberglass. It is a relatively new manufacturing process, and hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent by numerous companies developing the process over the past decade or so. Each company has its own proprietary method for pultruding fiberglass window frames, but they all involve pulling actual strands of fiberglass through a die as the proprietary polymers are added, creating a fiberglass-strand-infused window frame material. This adds substantial strength to the window frame material. By substantial I mean that the frame material is many times as strong as the frame of an extruded product. Do your own research when considering composite and fiberglass windows. I encourage you to do some research on pultrusion and extrusion, and draw your own conclusions about the differences between them. Then, obtain a lineal of the frame materials from the products you’re considering purchasing and bend it yourself. I’m absolutely positive that you’ll feel a difference between any pultruded-framed product on the market and any extruded-framed product on the market. If the information contained herein helps just one person with their window purchasing experience it will have been worth the time spent. Our concern is for you finding the right product, not pushing the only product we sell on you.

Bill came to the house and reviewed his company installations and provided contacts. Reviewed with us our wants and needs and budget. Reviewed with us what type and color and level of windows we were looking for. He always tried to match the best of our wants with our needs and our budget. He was truly invested in meeting what we wanted, that stayed within our budget. We were very happy that he was aware of what we could truly afford, with what we needed, and how to bring the two together. He took initial measurements and confirmed what number, style, color and type of windows we were looking for. His lead installer, Eric, can walk on water. He confirmed all that Bill had covered, and the guy went to work. Eric cleans up after himself at the end of every day. Not once was anything left messy. He is a professional and a true craftsman. Our hopes and expectations were met, and left in the dust. We are so happy and impressed with the level of sales, installation and support we received. This is a small company, and the payoff is that you are able to work with each individual and know that you are important to them. I would recommend this company in a heartbeat to anyone who is looking for window replacement/installation. A truly professional company.

We purchased a home with nearly all broken windows and doors - it was a very big project! From the beginning DMD was absolutely committed to working with us. They provided timely quotes, worked to get the price down without compromising on quality, and were always updating us on order status and delivery dates etc... The crew that arrived to install the windows was very quick and professional. DMD even contracted out part of our project to a masonry worker, who was absolutely amazing. (We turned a sliding glass door opening into a window and the exterior needed to be bricked - the brick matches perfectly!) That was included in the original bid and made our lives a lot easier. They also had to build a new oak casing for our bay window which turned out absolutely beautiful. Truly, they didn't leave out a single detail. We went with Andersen windows and sliding doors and they are all very nice. I would happily recommend DMD again. We mostly worked with Jeff and he was great about promptly returning phone calls and getting us the information we needed quickly. I'm trying to be honest and think if there are any negatives.... I guess windows are really expensive! But that's true no matter who you go with.

When I called DMD to explain what I needed, Bill actually steered me away from his company. First, he explained where I could get a storm door for cheaper than he could provide one. Then he realized that I was actually needing glass replacement rather than window (frame and all) replacement and directed me to the correct contact. I appreciated his ethics. He was very informative and helpful. When it is time to replace our windows I have every intention of contacting DMD first.

I had a very complicated job due to the nature of my home. I own a condo within a historic Victorian home in Boulder that was constructed in 1890. Because the home is a Boulder Historic Landmark, the design criteria and regulations required for any alterations to the exterior of the building, including windows, are strict. After going through an extremely arduous process of being approved to replace 6 windows in my condo, Jeff and team worked with me to design my historically accurate windows from the Pella Architectural series. Once we were finally able to order the windows (due to additional complications with the City), the custom built all-wood windows arrived in just 3 weeks. Installation was handled professionally and extremely well done, especially in light of the 16 inch thick stone exterior walls and garden level installation of 4 of the 6 windows. High quality workmanship and beautiful windows. Would recommend (and have already) DMD Builders to others.

Jeff of DMD provided a very competitive bid (we secured 4 bids) and impressed us with his knowledge and presence during the bidding process. We were very pleased with the installation and particularly impressed with Jeff's diligence in handling a warranty matter with the window provider. We were not invoiced for the windows (which functioned fine in spite of the minor defect) until they had been replaced. To be honest, the defect was so minor that we probably would not have noticed it, at least for a while. Jeff's installer noticed it, reported it, and Jeff vigorously followed up. We are impressed! This is the kind of service that brings people back and supports strong recommendations for future custom. We

We had Jeff with DMD replace two of our french doors with sliding doors in November of 2010 and a replacement window on March 7, 2012 in our sitting room. We found Jeff at the Spring Home and Gardening show in 2010. We had several estimates, and we found DMD to have the best pricing for the value. He actually met me at a Marvin store so we could see the actual product before we purchased instead of a sample. Jeff had the most professionalism and appeared to really care about his customers and product. He also searched for the best product for our price range. When it was time to replace our sitting room window, we did not hesitate to use DMB again. The installers arrived at the exact time and were quick, courteous and immaculate. We highly recommend DMB to anyone that is looking for the best value, courtesy and great dcustomer service.

My wife and I have used this company to replace windows at our present house and at our previous house. The carpenters are absolutely first class! They make very little mess and clear up all mess that they do make. They are amazingly quick and leave the job in great condition ready for the painters who do the staining and varnishing. Typically, they show up the day after the windows have been fitted. I really have nothing but praise for the company owner and his contractors and would recommend them to anyone.

The actual work performed (replacement of windows) was great. The crew was polite and took great care in our home and with our furnishings. A trim piece was installed which prevented re-installation of blinds after the job impossible however they returned the next day and adjusted this to our complete satisfaction. The manager Jeff, was absolutely maddening. He must be the owners relative. Extremely polite but completely disorganized and poor communication skills. When someone continually has to apologize its an issue. Again the work was great and the crew was great but the administrative componenet was really aggravating. Rebuttal to Provider Response: Jeff McFarlanes response merely serves to validate our previous rating secondary to its inaccuracy and his failure to address the real issue which is lack of organization and communication with his customer. Please find valid points below. 1. Regarding the issue of address. Please refer to our email dated August 9 @ 9:44pm wherein you are asked to meet us at the correct address. We can only assume that this was ignored or lost and you located our previous address via directory assistance. Your error not ours. 2. Yes we did change the scope of the job. These changes did not involve materials which you purchased only additional labor time therefore your only loss was additional profit. We cannot be held responsible for your failure to charge for change orders. 3. We were not unhappy with the window trim and refinishing thereof. We indicated that this portion of the job was satisfactory and in fact one of the items we found worth mentioning. Please read our original comment again more carefully. 4. We were not unhappy with the crew, they took care to avoid damage and soil. Further they were polite and prompt. Again, please read our original comment more carefully. 5. Jeff was in fact late the day of installation. More accurately, we discovered that he was sitting in the parking lot in his truck drinking coffee and had lost track of time. When we called to inquire re. his whereabouts and arrival time he apologized and walked to our front door. A flight was missed as a result of waiting for Jeff to "arrive". 6. Jeff was instructed to process payment for the initial deposit as well as the remaining balance on our credit card. Jeff claims late payment secondary to our negligence or delinquency yet he had our card and permission on file. By his own admission Jeff waited several weeks to follow up. 7. Point of information: It took 38 emails with Jeff to complete our transaction, including 11 in which we repeated previous requests for information and documentation including warranty paperwork. 8. It is in poor form to address a customers concerns in the manner shown herein. It is interesting to know that you feel a customer is a "weight lifted from your chest". It may interest DMD to know that we contracted with Lowes to perform the remainder of our window job. 7 windows and 2 sliding glass doors. Lowes performed the job with 1 phone call, in 1 day and with extraordinary politeness. Perhaps this is the standard to which DMD should aspire.

Response from DMD Window & Door
In response to the client’s “rebuttal” we can go point-by-point, as he did: 1. The address I received came from the Angie’s List’s Big Deal, not from “directory assistance.” If there was an email that contained a correct address I didn’t receive it, certainly disconcerting if this is the case, but it has happened before. 2. The changes made did involve materials: at least four tubes of cold-weather compatible caulk which must be utilized for a proper installation during the winter months. I’m not sure what the client thought we were going to caulk with if not a “material” known as “caulk?” This was not a case of lost “profit.” The Angie’s List Big Deal that we structured had us doing the work at our cost- ironically enough so that we could increase the size of our client base and hopefully do more work for those that purchased the Big Deal in the future (or their friends & neighbors). In this particular case we didn’t make a profit and we didn’t gain a client, and of course would never be referred to their friends or neighbors. 3. I’m glad that this client is satisfied with the installation and product. 4. I’m glad that this client is satisfied with the installation and product. 5. The interesting thing about this comment is that I was actually early getting to the job site. I believe our approximate start time was to be 8:30AM. I’m an early person no matter the occasion. I got there at 8:15. I unloaded the windows and trim for about twenty minutes whilst waiting for my crew to arrive. My gosh, I wonder where coffee came in to this equation? I don’t even drink coffee, except on rare occasions and only on weekends. I also don’t “lose track of time,” especially when beginning a new project. I was fielding calls from my installation crew as they were coming in from Loveland. They weren’t at the parking lot yet, and I wanted them to utilize a lower parking area where their trailer could be set up to prevent affecting anyone trying to get into or out of the condo complex. I stayed in my truck because it was cold outside, and quite frankly because being around this particular client made me totally uncomfortable. I guess you’re not going to get along with everybody, and this is the one client out of the hundred or so that I had last year that I apparently didn’t get along with. 6. I wish I had known that I could process payment at any point upon completion of the project, as I would have. I don’t like being stretched out on four windows, caulk and trim when I don’t have to be. I also don’t like wasting time sending invoices, and again, certainly would not have if I knew that I had authorization to run their card. I don’t recall accusing these folks of “delinquency” or “negligence,” I simply conveyed the fact that it took sending two or three invoices before I finally called them to see if there was a reason that we hadn’t yet received a check for payment. 7. I must have had email issues during my correspondence with this client. It wouldn’t be the first time that an email from my account didn’t arrive or get sent. It takes two to communicate (or miscommunicate in this instance). Perhaps that speaks to the difficulty I was presented with in the case of this client. I just completed a project with four times the number of windows and two doors, and it was all product that was clad wood. Some units had blinds between the glass, some didn’t. Some had a double pane glazing system, some had a triple pane glazing system. Several had a prefinished stain color on them, others didn’t. There were multiple interior trim details on different units. There were two different kinds of doors with different operations and glazing types- one had shades between the panes and one didn’t. The exterior trim detail was complex, involving two different profiles and therefore two different trim pieces used in conjunction. The interior had thermal window quilts which prevented us from removing the interior trim, and we had to make sure that we set the units at the proper depth to allow for a custom-routed sill that would allow the window quilts and window cranks to operate simultaneously. I completed that project with four emails and four phone calls- nothing was improperly ordered, and the client is elated. The project at this member’s home involved four white vinyl windows with colonial grids and standard exterior trim. Obviously something strange occurred in the case of this client. I sent their warranty information within a week after completion of the project. 8. If I showed “poor form” I certainly didn’t mean to. I simply wanted to convey the fact that not working for these people in the future will apparently be a blessing for all parties involved. I have no issue with the fact that they contracted with another company for their window and door needs.

DMD Builders were courteous, friendly, and professional. They revised their bid 3 times when I kept changing which windows I wanted to replace and the products I wanted, without hesitation or complaints. They also were willing to negotiate over payment methods (I paid 1/3 upfront on a credit card and the final 2/3 with check after completion.) The installation was done well, no complaints there. Looks great. DMD also replaced a door in my garage that needed additional brick work before the old frame could be removed, which DMD offered to do for me on the spot for a reasonable fee.Overall, very happy I chose this company.
Description of Work: Replaced 3 non-operational aluminium windows in the dining room, 2 in the garage, and replaced the garage door (the door facing the back yard, not the garage door itself). Also added a large picture window in the kitchen, replacing a much smaller opening, which required masonry work.

This was "part one" of a two part job we're having done (replacing all the windows in our 30-year-old home). It's now been about 1-1/2 months since the install. First of all, it was a pleasure working with Bill over the entire process. He was on-time and no-pressure in the sales call and showed us several different models by two brands (including the Anderson we bought). We went back and forth a bit about how much we could afford to do at one time, and how to price it. Bill was very accommodating about however we wanted to do it and kept adjusting the very detailed contract so we could see how different methods would affect the price. He was timely about communicating. He had his measurer come out to measure all the windows. The install took a total of 2 days, 1 for the windows and another to do all the final sealing and repair work we wanted. In retrospect, we should have had them do the exterior painting of the trim around the windows too. We were trying to save money but doing 2nd story exterior window trim is a major hassle! The install was done VERY cleanly with just some dirty fingerprints on the walls around a window or two. It was fast and low-stress. Right before the install date, Bill had a death in the family and despite this he made sure everything got taken care of and done on time. The only thing that slowed down was him billing us for the work! The quality of the install was excellent. I was able to get a close look at the exterior as well as the interior and it seems "tight" and complete. We were worried about damage during the process (e.g., to the walls, etc.) but it all looks super. The sills are well done, and the drywall repair was adequate: good but not incredible: we've had a master drywall guy in our house who is like an artist in matching textures perfectly, etc. so we have an extremely high benchmark for this now. We are looking forward to having Bill and his crew come back for a second round (hopefully this spring) and will report back on how the second phase goes. For that, we'll have them do the touch up painting and exterior trim painting this time!
Description of Work: We had 7 Anderson Series 100 "Fibrex" double-hung windows installed, a couple of rotted indoor sills replaced with solid wood sills, and some minor drywall repair (moisture damage from previous leaky windows). The "100" series is a mid-low end window that seemed high-quality and stable: very good look and name for the price.

I was very happy with DMD and Jeff McFarlane from first contact. He kept working to find time that would work for us both. The installation went very well and my wife said that the installation guys were professional and good-natured. We had one problem, a bend handle in one of the windows. We called Jeff about it and he came out and replaced it right away. The defect was clearly from shipping, not the installation process. We have already recommended DMD to friends who are very pleased. The house now seems quieter and better insulated.

They installed the doors fine. Although the lock on one door does stick a little. I didn't price shop at all because I was hooked in on the big deal. The frustration came in when I made a payment with my credit card for the remainder of my bill. I gave Jeff, my contact guy, my credit card info, then two weeks later they decided to run it - TWICE! I promptly called them to get my credit card credited back. And they not so promptly returned my call a week later. Then once they finally got back to me, it took another WEEK to credit me back. DON'T go with DMD unless you enjoy being frustrated.

Response from DMD Window & Door
I certainly apologize for the customer's experience with the double-billing issue. For some reason, Elevon, the company we run our credit card transactions through ran her card twice. DMD Had nothing to do with Elevon's mistake and immediately "elevated" the issue with Elevon. Because of Elevon's 3-7 business day refund policy they refused to refund Jennifer's money sooner than that. I made every attempt to have the credit adjusted faster to no avail. I apologized profusely to her about the situation with her credit card and the steps we were taking to eliminate this in the future. We have already taken steps to not use Elevon anymore for credit card processing if they don't have the capability to be responsive enough to our client's needs. I'm substantially more concerned that the customer's door has a "sticking" lock. I wish she would have mentioned that at some point during our correspondence about her credit card situation. Because she hadn't mentioned that issue until I read this report I haven't been able to respond to the door lock issue. I'll try to get over there immediately to fix the issue if she would like me to. I'm glad that the door installation went smoothly. It's really too bad that the credit card company double billed her as her experience with us would have been a good one. Sometimes as a small business owner you just can't win.

My first contact with Mr. McFarlane was quite pleasant. I felt he was very professional and responsive. There is always the possibility that there is something unfortunate occuring in his personal life at the moment or similar - something unintentionally stopping him from providing good service. I would recommend that if you contact DMD for an estimate you ask that it be provided on the spot. I don't know what the problem was, but I wish he would have told me there was one. I think back to August when I cancelled the estimation appointment as I wasn't ready to move forward. If he wasn't ready to move forward with providing an estimate I only wish he would have extended me the same courtesy and saved me a week of waiting before giving up. Perhaps he felt the job too small for his business. Again, I just wish he would have let me know. Overall: A for initial efforts. F for execution. Therefore, D - final.
Description of Work: No services have been performed. I've waited a week for an estimate. Below is the information behind my D score - a story of unacceptable professionalism and responsiveness. I had originally contacted Bill McFarlane of DMD Builders back in August for a bid to replace windows and doors in my townhouse. Prior to our appointment for the estimate I learned that I wouldn't be moving forward with any home projects at that time and cancelled the appointment with Mr. McFarlane. He responded thankfully that I didn't waste his time by having him come to bid. Last week (Friday, Dec. 9th) I e-mailed him letting him know I was now moving forward with home projects and asked how soon he could come by so I could be provided an estimate. He was more than accommodating by coming by that same day. We discussed my needs - options to repair and or replace interior and exterior doors and windows. He let me know that his company didn't do repairs, only replacements. I acknowledged and asked for the replacement estimate. Mr. McFarlane then told me he'd have the estimate to me by Tuesday. While I thought it was a bit far out there, I nodded another acknowledgement. Yesterday (Wednesday, Dec. 14th) I e-mailed for status of the estimate and that I thought he had told me he'd have it to me by Tuesday. After recieving no response I called him today (Thurs, Dec. 15th) at 8:30am. He answered the phone. I inquired of my estimate to which he responded that he had had his computer in the shop but now had it back and was booting it up as we spoke and that he'd have the estimates to me within 45 mintues. So far it's been the longest 45 minutes of my life (it's now 3:00pm). At 11:00am I called another contractor who came by during my lunch hour. This gentleman measured and, after spending several minutes in his work vehicle, came back to me with an estimate and his company's availability. I can only guess how many other estimates I could have had by now had I not been waiting on Mr. McFarlane. I should point out that I was getting new flooring installed when Mr. McFarlane came by. I asked the flooring installers to leave the doors off the hinges when they were finish as the hinges were old and corroded and I was moving forward with door replacements. I'm just 18 hours shy of a full week since Mr. McFarlane was in my home. I've had no doors on the bedrooms or bathrooms as I patiently waited for a replacement estimate. I'm no longer patient but moving on and leaving an appropriate review. I have no doubt that my doors (and possibly even windows) will be completed by the time Mr. McFarlane even realizes I've left him in the dust.

Response from DMD Window & Door
First I would like to thank the member for her time and effort in composing her review. Our policy at DMD Window & Door is “consistent improvement,” and this will help us to be more responsive during the bidding process in the future. I’ll do my best to address each of her concerns in the order that she has stated them. My mother did pass away very recently, just a couple of weeks ago, and that may have led to some of the delays that the member experienced. It’s been a rough month dealing with the loss. However, we’re not trying to provide excuses. We are simply going to try to explain what happened from our side of the table. Upon our initial contact with the member in August she did in fact put off her project until later, and we did appreciate the notice she provided prior to us making a trip to her residence. If, during our actual meeting the week of December ninth she had expressed any inclination for having the project completed within two weeks I would have immediately let her know that this was absolutely impossible, as the lead time on her interior doors alone was longer than that. We would have parted ways and she could have gotten another company involved right then if time was such a factor. Instead I submitted the specifications for her project to my interior door vendor for pricing. That pricing took four business days to get back to me, and I was unable to complete a quote until I had it. I’m not sure why, perhaps the holiday season had something to do with that delay, but I cannot say for sure at this time. Rest assured that we will investigate that situation further. I certainly apologize for the delay in getting a quote to the member. It was never mentioned that her interior doors had been left off because of a flooring situation, or that this was any kind of interior “door emergency.” Again, had I known that she needed doors immediately I would have told her that we couldn’t meet her project timeline expectations from the moment we met and she could have found another contractor who would get interior doors sooner. We try to utilize higher-quality door products than what is stocked at “big-box” stores and local lumber yards. If higher-quality products were to be sacrificed for speed of installation the member should have brought that fact to our attention and we would have priced stocked doors from a local retailer. The member did mention her window needs in her review so I should address that. I’ll preface this by stating that the amount of boxes and belongings so thoroughly covered the space in front of some of her windows that I had to roughly estimate the sizes of them from a distance. The various items in the way would not allow me access to obtain exact measurements. I also had to try to figure out how to price for that. Should I have asked her if she was going to remove the belongings from around the windows prior to us trying to put them in, or were we going to have to do 100% of the replacement work from the exterior of the dwelling? To obtain proper measurements I was going to have to come back with a ladder anyway as I was unable to get close to some of the windows from the inside. I should also address the member's concern that this job was “too small for his business.” We do one window jobs routinely that have contracted amounts substantially lower than the amount that the member's contracted price would have been. I just wish I would have known how pressing her needs were so that she wouldn’t have wasted any time with us. If she needed this done in two weeks or less I wish she would have made it known right from the beginning and we could have avoided causing her any additional stress at holiday time. Again, we apologize for your experience Member, and will do our best to avoid this type of situation in the future.

They were very nice and very cooperative. We didn't end up using them because it was too expensive. They were more than willing to work with us. They were awesome. I'd love to be able to afford for a power window but I can't because for a house we don't use every day. We had lots of estimates done and they were by fault the most professional. They had least pressure and more than willing to work with me. I think they do a really nice job. They were good in all their efforts they put in for the estimate and the time they spent with me. They answered all my questions. We would use them if we are able to have more money.

The installation process was seamless. The installers were very professional. the work was done cleanly and efficiently. A few days later the painter arrived to paint the door. He, also, did a great job. He stained the wood on the doors to match the wood trim in the kitchen.
