REC Solar completed the installation within five days. When the job was completed, the chief REC Solar site technician provided me with a good orientation for my overall understanding of the system and for on-going operation. After four and a half years, the system has been working well without any significant interruption. Earlier this year I had requested that a technician inspect the system for what I perceived to be lower-than-expected output. REC Solar dispatched a technician immediately (at no charge to me) and he showed me how to verify whether any single panel may be faulty and how to assess the installation for any serious system malfunction. Today I remain quite satisfied with the installation.
Description of Work: Note: The amount that I spent is not the total amount that REC Solar received for the job. (They also received the XCEL rebate of $26000.) REC Solar proposed a recommended (6KW) solar array on my roof. They installed the panels and the electrical infrastructure including the inverter, reversing meter, and connection to the XCEL grid.

The salesman showed up for our appointment with a fully prepared and priced proposal. After I obtained other proposals, I realized REC Solar's proposed system was significantly larger than the others, as the salesman had compensated for shading from a large tree he saw on Google Earth. This tree had been cut down, but the salesman didn't bother to redo his proposal to show a smaller and less expensive system. Of all the proposals I obtained, this was the only one that was prepared sight unseen.
Description of Work: At my request REC Solar came to my home and presented me with an estimate to install a photovoltaic system on my house.

The company was great to deal with and solar panels are working well. Their professionalism was good and they were also very knowledgeable. Price was comparable to other estimates.

Much of this company appears to work in California. My intitial conversation was with someone there, who then had a salesperson here contact me. I had a new roof installed at the same time the solar panels were installed. When I first contracted for the solar job, I was told that the roof job had to be coordinated so that the solar panels were put on halfway through the roof job. So I delayed having the roof done until the solar panels were ready. But when the time came to install the solar panels, REC said to go ahead and have the roof fully installed before they put on the solar panels. Also, sometime later, I was concerned that I wasn't getting adequate electricity production, so I called REC, and again spoke with someone in California. That person's final day with REC was two days from then, but he sent me an analysis that said the system was doing what it was supposed to do. While I was talking to him, however, he asked the purpose of installing my solar panels, explaining that the salesman should have discussed with me whether I wanted the panels to produce electricity to cover my usage or other purposes. The salesman hadn't. That said, the installation went well -- the personnel were punctual, cooperative, responsive, and competent. And having had the panels in operation for about a year, I see that they are indeed producing electricity.
Description of Work: Installation of a 3,600 watt solar electric system (PV). The total cost of the job was $24,350.00, but a Public Service rebate covered $12,600.00 of the cost.

REC was great. They presented the project, with costs, timing, etc. during the 3 month wait between signing the contract and my actual installation, I got a call or email every few weeks keeping me updated. When it was time, they showed up when they said they would, worked every day when the weather allowed, explained what they were doing and cleaned up after themselves. It was easy, the system works well, they filed the rebates, and did all the liason work with the building inspector and the electric utility. It was much easier than I thought it would be.

I called several solar panel installation companies. REC was one of four who responded immediately. Their sales person was well prepared. He presented several options and was mindful of my needs vs. trying to sell me something I didn't want. He also followed-up on any additional questions I had after he had left from the initial consultation. One item that was clear from the beginning is that REC was ambitious about winning my business. They were not overzealous or obnoxious. They followed up to see where I was at in my decision making process on a regular basis (not every day). When I decided to go with REC, I was given timelines that seemed far off for installation but they explained it had to do with stacking other projects, ordering panels, etc. They were able to start the project well ahead of their proposed time frame. The installers were fantastic. They were personable, explained what they were going to do, and were always diligent about cleaning up at the end of the day. They completed their project on time. I had one item I needed addressed after the panels were installed and REC promptly followed up to make the adjustment. This is one of the best experiences I have had with a contractor.
Description of Work: REC Solar installed 21 Kyocera pv panels and an inverter box in the garage. They also ran conduit in through the attic on on the outside of the house to connect with the meter.

In the spring of 2008, I moved into my newly constructed home with a beautiful solar PV system from REC SOLAR. From first contact through turning the system on, the entire REC team provided stellar customer service. I ended up installing "building-integrated" solar PV panels that integrate right into the concrete roof tiles for a fantastic look. These are more expensive than traditional panels but see for yourself in the picture how they look. I needed a company with experience doing this since this is not very common in Colorado yet, and I was not able to find any other company who had done this. They impressed me with the sizing modeling they performed and roof layout design. My goal was to generate more electricity than I consumed, and I'm pleased to report we are tracking well to end the year with a surplus. During the installation process they worked well with the general contractor, roofers, and the electricians to ensure a smooth process. A key advantage that REC was able to provide was handling the Xcel Energy rebate. I only had to pay the amount net of the rebate so they floated a very large amount of money from the start of the project through getting the NET meter installed and the system powered. That's a pretty long process until Xcel pays the rebate. Not having to front all the cash helped me immensely with my construction project. Finally, REC is a fun and passionate team that knows their stuff. I've recommended them to several people already, and one friend has his system up and running resulting in another happy customer.
Description of Work: Installation of a 7.1 KW solar PV system for a new home construction. The panels are "building-integrated" so they were installed with compatible concrete tiles on my roof. The panels used were Sharp ND62-RU1s. The REC Sales person consulted me about the various options and explained to me in detail the full process of installation and making the system active, as well as the required paperwork and process for the Xcel rebate. REC SOLAR also help me locate a solar thermal company which I also used for domestic hot water.

The most important part of this process for me was the actual sale. There were so many questions that I had about solar panels, including their durability, cost, lifetime. I had questions about the cost benefit analysis, payback period, etc. The sales person that I worked with spent several hours answering my without being pushy or seeming biased. He simply explained to my satisfaction why REC solar could provide the best end product & answered my technical questions. Deciding to "go solar" was the most important part of the process for me because it was a big decision. It was an easy decision to go with REC because they had the least expensive of three other companies bids & they were the most responsive in terms of having someone quickly come to survey the site (my house) & create a bid. The sales person & electrical contractor worked well together. Whenever I needed to talk to one of them & they didn't answer, they would call me back quickly. After deciding to have REC install the panels, they wrapped up the project in 3 days. That part was easy. Overall, REC solar was great to work with. I think maybe because they have the system down & have been doing it for a while. Or maybe I just got lucky. It was just a good experience, the way these things should be.
Description of Work: REC solar performed a complete 4kW solar panel install to my home. This included 20 solar panels attached to my roof, an inverter, disconnects & wiring for grid tied system to a net meter.

The service and professionalism the REC team was outstanding! From my initial contact with someone at the California headquarters through the process of installation, each person showed incredibly professionalism, character and genuine interest and concern. The sales staff was knowledgeable, honest, responsive and more importantly so energetic and passionate about their work. I called over 5 companies and this company not only answered the phone but promptly returned all my questions and follow-up inquires. The installation team was remarkable and they provided above and beyond my expectations of service. Always courteous, professional and they were fun to have around.
