I’ve always been the type of guy who swore they wouldn’t follow the solar panel trend. However, that quickly changed after being introduced to Nick. He has an exemplary knowledge of everything solar, and was able to provide me the required information to help make this decision. I was blown away by his professionalism, ability to understand my needs, and service them. Often times salesmen are very pushy & transactional. This is something I’m sure almost everybody has dealt with at one point or another. After my consultation with Nick, I felt like I’ve know him for years. I was comfortable enough to come to my own decision, with all the support and information necessary. I cannot recommend Nick enough. If you are looking for solar, or are just genuinely curious in learning more, this is your guy. My only regret is that I didn’t meet him sooner. The service provided up to installation was good, communication and actual install went well. Once installed the service is awful. It’s like they could no careless. The design they submitted to excel is flawed and rejected. While neighbors are up and connected we still wait for a connection date! Can’t blame xcel but they try. We are now 2 months after install no date for connection in site and monthly payments begin in couple of weeks! Be aware before you buy.

Sunrun overpromises and underdelivers. Part of the process of shopping for solar is to see how much electrical production each company will deliver and at what price. Sunrun promised that my solar panels would produce a certain level of electiricty for a certain amount of money that was less expensive than other providers. Well, that sure is easy to do when their promises don't represent reality. They didn't come anywhere close to the promised level of electricity production. Then, they promised that they would "make a financial adjustment" to make up for their underproduction. I have it in writing. Gee, guess what? They welched on that, too. What a surprise. They're a totally untrustworthy company.

Avoid this company. Their installation is bad and their customer service is horrid. Months after installation I still do not have solar energy. SunRun scheduled a date for installation. Then, they only sent one person to install the electrical equipment and no one to install the panels. This required me to take another day to be their for the roof installation. Despite SunRun's promise to do a one day install, it took two separate days. A third and fourth day were required because the solar panel installation went awry when they punctured through my roof into my second floor living area. This took a while to resolve, but Sun Run did patch up the dry wall. After this, Sunrun neglected to send completed paperwork to the utility company so that the utility company could come out and activate my system. Throughout this period I emailed project leads, customer care, and managers to find out why there was such a long delay. I received no response for over a month. The response I received were not satisfactory or helpful. I went through them because I trusted Costco. I have now steered multiple friends to other residential solar companies because even though SunRun offers a generous referral bonus, I would never recommend such a bad company to friends.

I bought residential solar panels from SunRun.? They installed the panels and the electrical equipment.

The panels are leased. I opted to buy power in advance, hence the cost. Overall they cost more than the other company I looked closely at, but was impressed with sales and follow-up calls. The crew that came out was punctual and cleaned up after themselves. They always let me know when they came and went. Installation took a little longer than expected due to weather, but they made the most out of bad, snowy days. They have been responsive to my calls throughout the process. So far, the arrays are putting out 60-65% average of my energy use--this is with snow, short days and clouds. I anticipate they will perform as promised. They have been inspected by the City as well as the insurance company, and have passed with flying colors. I would recommend without reservation.

REC Solar did a great job with the install. They were efficient and did excellent work. The solar panels look great on our roof, the wire leads from the panels are hidden through our attic, and they even have a mesh critter guard around them. They use systems from Solar Edge, which gives you the ability to track the performance of each panel on a monitoring website over the course of a day. They handle all the permitting and paperwork with the local utility (Xcel). They are also very responsive to emails and phone calls, which is awesome.

It was just more expensive than we had hoped and can't afford it right now. But if we ever change our minds we will give Sam a call!

REC Solar was awarded a state contract for solar panel installations, and I received a great discount through my place of work. I had a wonderful experience from start to finish, over a period of several months. The first step was a thorough review of the site. The rep (Laura) came out very quickly after I first called, and was extremely helpful in explaining all the options. I decided to go with a 20 year lease, which made more sense to me than buying the system and being responsible for the maintenance. I lease the system through a California company, which has also been outstanding. I asked for a small alteration to the original plans, which they were able to accomodate with no problems. This resulted in a reduction in the original price, and the original production estimate was also revised up after a further review of the site (this was great news to me, since if the production estimate is not met, I will receive a rebate). The installation went extremely smoothly, and I am really pleased with the look of the system and its functioning. My electric bills are probably about half of what they were before installation, and the days are still getting longer, so I'll continue to see increased savings. Finally, because REC met a new installation goal, I received a further rebate of over $300. I give this company a top recommendation.

I looked into several companies providing the leasing of solar panels. Important things to me were the stability of the company as this is a long-term, 20 year, commitment as well as the quality of their installations, maintenance, and their cost. This was the only company that could not work with me over the phone to provide me the requested information. I did not have a problem with meeting them at the house but did not care for the pressure to sign the contract at that time. I explained I was not done with my research yet and was told that they had a special deal going if I signed right then. They did a good job presenting the information requested and got back with me promptly with information they did not have during the meeting. I elected not to go with them due to the cost of their system versus the cost of other providers. Much of what they told me they did that other companies did not turned out to be inaccurate when my installation was actually done.

Do your due diligence. Don't sign a contract and make a commitment on the first presentation. They try to put the close on you. Take a few days to review contracts and do a detailed comparison on competitor programs. Don't sign a contract until all your questions have been answered.

We were pleased with the initial installation, but less than satisfied with follow-up support from REC Solar. Since installing our system, REC Solar has included vermin guards as a standard inclusion with more recent installs based on experiences in this area. Sadly, the company did not advise us of the potential vermin problem that led to this change in their practice. Our system stopped functioning in late December 2011 due to squirrels chewing on the interconnecting wires between the panels. Of course, we cannot blame REC Solar for this damage, but this situation reveals an opportunity for improvement for the company to follow up with customers about significant developments related to their own installation. After initially contacting the company about the problem in December, negotiations led to update options for our installation. We discussed a possible addition to our current array, but ultimately we stipulated repair work to include repositioning the current array for better overall sun exposure. This negotiation phase was a frustrating experience that stretched over a period of weeks because the local REC Solar service representative was less-than responsive. He would not return phone calls or email messages in due time. More often than not, it was left for me to follow up with him. When a crew was finally dispatched (in late May!) to do the work, the company provided the installers with standard issue hardware components that were not compatible with the original installation. This led to an uneven installation where some panels jutted a half inch or more above others. The result was a less-than professional appearance. When I reported my discontent to the local Customer Service representative, his response was to have the crew replace the panels to their original positions, but at my expense. This prompted me to leave my work place and negotiate directly with the technical crew who were still on site. Where the Customer Service rep was less-than helpful, the crew was outstanding. With skilled understanding of their trade and good problem-solving abilities, they provided us with a satisfying work-around solution that was completely acceptable. The final resolution was provided without additional expense to REC Solar or to us.

The experience was good. The technicians were very professional, knowledgeable, and the materials are of high quality. However, they did overestimate the energy production of the system that they recommended and chose for me.
