Description of Work: Due to the overwhelming praise on this list, I called...the first time I was told by Mike that Jeremy would be in touch with me. No response from Jeremy. I called again and left a message for Mike stating that they came so highly recommended on Angie's list that I would really like the opportunity to work with them. Never heard a response...I even spoke about another large property that needs attention so there would be more work if we could have only gotten a response. We are going with another landscaping company who responded quickly and gave us some great ideas.

They beautiful job. I was very pleased with the competency of their work.
Description of Work: All the front and back beds and put in the mulch and all the pruning that needed to be done. They had gotten behind because of the weather, and when I contacted them about that they sent two men right out.

It was Mike's responsiveness and professionalism that led us to hire Naturescapes to transform our new construction, bare dirt, back yard into a place we look forward to spending time. But it was his work that causes me to write this review. Mike's crew are sincere, kind, and hard working; it was a treat to come home each evening to see the progress and we were only disapointed on the days it snowed and they couldn't work!
Description of Work: Provided quotes for a few design concepts which helped us decided the design direction. Installed the irrigation, planting areas and sod areas, planted the selected trees and shrubs, selected delivered and placed decorative boulders, hauled in and spread mulch and rock. Since we planted early in the spring, they were great about communicating the options available for planting materials.

I am late in writing this, as I wanted our anger to subside. Mixed results to say the least, and I am being positive about that. First, the good. The patio was sub contracted to Edge Concrete and they did a magnificent job with design and the result would be an and quot;Aand quot; The pergola was done fairly well. He did install one post that was defective and we made him dig it up and replace it. During the initial installation, they cut the cable line, because they didn't call the city to put out flags where the lines were. I would give the pergola a and quot;B+and quot;, as we are pretty happy with the end result. These two items were probably the most costly elements of the job. He did an OK job on the walkways, not great by any means. As to the raised gardens, a and quot;Cand quot;. He did not put quality dirt - as was described to us during the bid - in the gardens. The metal sides sagged and he had to come out and put up some wood beams to help prop it up. The wood finish is already wearing and we will have to sand it down and re-stain two years later. As to the irrigation, an and quot;Fand quot;. The irrigation in the garden beds did not work as we needed at all, so we had to water by hand the rest of the summer- he also did not really do what we asked him to do with the sprinkler system in the front or back yard. We ended up having to bring out a professional sprinkler company in 2012, and we paid them $2,500 to fix all the irrigation- including the beds - everything - the way we wanted it. As to customer service and professionalism, an and quot;Fand quot;. Mike was never around supervising his rag tag staff, he was always out drumming up more business and working on bigger jobs. He kept promising work would be done and there were delays, his staff was on other jobs, etc. It took 6 weeks to do a 2 week job max, and he did not give his men the tools they needed, so there was a lot of physical labor involved, rather than the right equipment to speed the job. A lot of work had to be re-done and it was clear his men when they did work on our property on any given day, did not have the right instructions to complete what we wanted, so we ended up supervising them. His staff were not trained folks, one was on DUI probation, another we think was a drug user (we can not prove, he spent long time in our bathrooms, but Mike said he had had a drug problem). They left a part of our fence to be blown down by the wind, so they turned it into a and quot;gateand quot; (lucky us!) There is much more, but why go on? All I can say is we drank a toast the day they and quot;finishedand quot;, such as it was and were off our property. Giving this firm a and quot;Cand quot; for the work they did is generous, but a large part of that is the excellent concrete work by Edge. Can not and do not recommend Naturescapes.
Description of Work: Mike had done some work for us before, so we hired him to: (a) build 3 large raised garden beds, (b) landscape our back yard and (c) make sure our irrigation system was all in working order. The landscaping in the back yard was the biggest piece of this, with several beds, a 500 sq foot concrete patio pad connecting with the back door via steps, and install a cedar pergola over the patio. He also rebuilt the walkways.

Response from Naturescapes LLC
We began working with the members on the said project almost 2 years ago in 2011 as additional work was requested after we repaired multiple irrigation problems in the yard. The members were very happy with the work and asked us to come back. We drew a design for the yard and discussed options for each part of the project. Once the project parameters were agreed upon we began work. We started by calling for utility locates and once they were completed we began tearing out the old walkways, decks, sod, etc. In the process of the demolition the painted lines for the utility locates were dug up but the flags still remained giving clear identification of the utility lines. After the patio had been poured by Edge concrete we began constructing the pergola. One of the posts for the pergola was designated to go almost directly on top of the cable line that was clearly marked. As a result we did everything we could to avoid hitting the cable and informed the members that if the cable was damaged we would cover the cost of repair. The cable was cut and was promptly repaired. Some months later the member found that one of the posts on the pergola had a small hair line split down one side. With the pergola being made from cedar one must understand that splits may occur with the drying process commonly found in outdoor wood construction. As a result we offered to replace the post and did so promptly. Next the walkways were built as described in out original consultation and in the estimate. The walkways were built using a tan breeze material. It was described to the members that it was a low cost walkway that would not be a great long term walkway solution for the needs they had. But as a result of budget restrictions they opted to go with the lower cost material with the idea that it would be upgraded as their future budget allowed. Next the planter beds were constructed to the members specifications. The planter bed project began with the construction of one planter bed which was expanded as an addendum to three planter beds. The planter boxes were made with cedar posts and a cedar cap/trim with a corrugated steel siding. In the consultation the clients were warned that a cedar cap would be a higher maintenance product opposed to composite decking board that would last much longer. Again as a budgetary restriction we were forced to use the cedar cap. The soil that was installed into the beds was exactly the same material that was described in the estimate. The beds did indeed sag on the side and we repaired the beds promptly. As far as the irrigation, we were requested as another addendum, to adjust the heads in the front yard to more efficiently irrigate the lawn. Again, it was described to the members that the irrigation system needed some major re-configuring work and that it would be a costly endeavor. The members declined the more extensive irrigation repairs as a budgetary restriction. Despite the inability to repair the entire system the clients seemed happy with the work we did. The project as a whole took almost 6 weeks to complete. I agree that the work should have only taken two to three weeks under perfect conditions, but given that we had massive amounts of rain throughout the project, and additional projects being added by the members it would make sense that the project took longer than expected. Additionally because of the situation and the tight spaces that our team had to work with, large equipment could not be used, which would have dramatically sped up the process. There was one of our employees that was found using drugs. Once the evidence was acquired the employee was fired. Since then our staff has grown to include many skilled workmen. During the project there were several days that had very strong winds and one of the fence sections blew down. We offered to repair the fence free of charge, but instead the members said they would prefer a gate to be built so that they could get the mower easily in and out of the backyard. Working with the members was not unpleasant at least while we were working. The members seemed happy with the work that was being done as the project was underway. All indications that were given by the members would suggest that they were happy with the work. I feel like we did everything that we could to make the members happy and meet all of their requests. I hope that in the future I can do a better job of communicating and conveying ideas and expectations.

They were very good about communicating and being responsive. Their crews showed up and worked all day long to finish the project quickly. It turned out great and I would definitely hire them again!
Description of Work: They did a lot of work to make my lawn lower maintenance. Several overgrown garden beds were removed and a dog run had new gravel and a weed barrier added. They trimmed several shrubs and made some minor adjustments to the sprinkler system. New turf was added to replace the old garden areas.

I wanted to make sure the pavers would work with the brick on the house, so Mike got several different samples for me ahead of time. Once I selected the paver style, we scheduled the work. We discovered that the old sidewalk had no prep work done at all. Naturescapes crew dug the prep area deep enough so that the actual pavers are on 9and quot; of roadbed. This was applied in layers and rolled (to compact it) before the next layer was put down. There are metal guides along each side which also stabilize the new walkway. Because of the precision prep work done, the new walkway drains away from the house and into border flower beds. The new walkway is beautiful and provides a welcoming entrance to my home. Everyone was prompt and they put in full work days. Crew was professional, courteous and pleasant to have around. The project did take a couple of days longer than was expected, but it was worth the trade off to see it done right. It's obvious that these guys like their work. They are knowledgeable and love talking landscaping, even giving me some tips on my existing plants and other possibilities. I have other work that needs to be done and will call Naturescapes when I am ready.
Description of Work: Mike and his crew tore out an uneven, cracking concrete sidewalk and replaced it with brick pavers. There was a drain with a grate on the old sidewalk, and the drain was buried so water flows out toward the street. They also buried another drain from a corner downspout, putting it under an existing rock sidewalk.

Mike scheduled an appointment to put in a and quot;naturaland quot; river landscape in our backyard. We discussed the overall look and feel of our entire landscape for now and for future work. He made a diagram and spec'd out what would be needed. We started our landscaping changes last year with 4 beautiful trees. This year we wanted a natural looking riverbed on our left side in our backyard. Whenever it rains, it gets incredibly wet on the left, and therefore our reasoning why a natural riverbed would be good. They arrived on time and did an exceptional job in terrible heat. and quot;Jeremyand quot; designed the river bed, and they put in large rocks and smaller rocks. It looks just like a natural river bed, not fake like you seem on some people's properties. Professional, exceptional quality.
Description of Work: Design and create an overall landscaping that would be put in place in phases. Phase I was to plant some trees, phase II was to put in a "natural" river bed. It is good to do this kind of work in phases because you can see progress immediately without spending gobs of money, and you can prioritize the work.

Mike was knowledgeable and very courteous. I told Mike over the phone what was wrong and he gave me a time frame, which he met, and a cost estimate, which he also met, before he had even seen the problem. The price was very reasonable and you could tell that Mike cared about the quality of work that he did. I would have no problem hiring Mike again for any of my landscaping needs in the future.
Description of Work: Mike replaced the vacuum breaker and copper pipe that had burst during the winter.
The work went very well. The work crew arrived on schedule. They put in a good day's work every day they were here. They found previously unknown problems with our irrigation system and corrected them. They fixed leaks and corrected the sprinklers. Our brown-grass areas disappeared rather quickly. We couldn't have been more pleased. The new plants and rock trim were just what we wanted, and everything looked good. Naturescapes was efficient and professional. We will have them back this summer, 2012, for more yard work.
Description of Work: We needed to redo our front and back yards to lessen our yard maintenance, particularly for our vegetable garden that we were no longer able to maintain. Our lawn sprinklers were leaving large areas with brown grass where no water was reaching. Our sprinkler system needed to be fixed. We needed to remove some yard plants and replace them with plants requiring less maintenance. We found Naturescapes on Angie's List and contacted them. Mike Bradley came out and listened to what we needed. He gave us an estimate. We hired him. We made the decisions, but when we got stuck Mike was able to give good, workable suggestions. Specifically, we removed a backyard garden we no longer could maintain. We replaced it with a few plants and added rock trim. We replaced front and back metal edging around house and planted areas. We re-rocked our side yard and front and back plant areas. We removed a dead mulberry bush and replaced it with a maple tree. We fertilized our lawns. We replaced or adjusted our yard sprinklers that had been installed incorrectly by a previous lawn company. We installed new drip lines to match our new plants.

Put in extra effort to get it fixed properly. Communicated pretty well after I asked to leave details in phone messages (not just ask to call back).
Description of Work: The initial estimate only included moving two sprinkler heads, replacing and reburying drip line feeder deeper, repair holes in drip line chewed by squirrels, adjusting head spray pattern. However, they found cracked and broken sprinkler bodies (causing low pressure) so had to replace all heads in backyard (upon my approval). Also found leaks in drop line feeder near valve (not expected) and fixed that.
Overall it was a smooth, pain free process from start to finish. Mike Bradley was easy to work with as he was always available and on time - he was very adaptive and flexible in finding a way to make the project work at a price I could afford - he was insistent on doing the work the right way even if it cost him extra time and money vs. just getting the job done - he gave great advice and insight on many matters I was not up to par on - his crew were hard workers, friendly, and willing to do extra things for me - the entire crew showed up each day at 7:30 and worked 10+ hours each day - Mike and the crew were attentive to all the little details and nothing was left undone. I was never frustrated with anything and would hire these guys back anytime I needed them.
Description of Work: An irrigation system was installed. They went with me to help choose and pick out 10 trees to be planted. Ground was dug out and prepared and 7 trees on the east side of the house, 2 trees in the back, and 1 in the front were put in. Trees were placed and tied down. Sod was replaced in lawn areas where needed. The entry way to the garage was dug out and prepared before putting 4 tons of rock down.

Mowed 3/4 of my flower garden down. I'm not sure why they mowed in this area, because there was a short wrought-iron fence in front of it. I did not want this done.

I apologized for any miscommunication as I did not remember any discussion or have any notes showing that we would remove the log. I offered to have it removed immediately. The perennials were completely dead and needed to be pruned. As the one responsible for the yards appearance I thought I could do them a favor by mowing them down to at least level all the weeds that were coming thru the dead perennials. Also I offered to replace any of the perennials that were destroyed free of charge. We did our best to make Members happy and will continue to make that effort. Despite the miscommunication it has been a pleasure working with Members.

Naturescapes listed to our original wishes and improved on the design. They suggested plants that are good for this area and worked creatively to source hard-to-find plant materials. They willingly replaced those that our rabbit hordes liked too much. As they worked, they continued to improve on the design given our terrain and existing plantings. The crew was easy to work with, timely in getting the work done, and applied themselves to the work. Naturescapes now maintains our yard and notices things which need attention. They are the best yard service we've ever had. Every interchange is a pleasant one.

They did a thorough job overall. They were easy to work with. And Mike, the manager, was very helpful. For instance he brought to my attention that a pair of plants that I had wanted for the entry, would not be suitable for the full sun, so we went back to the nursery and found a more suitable substitute set of plants. My only downgrade is that he didn't call to tell me when changes to the schedule would be necessary. I am really big on good communications, and will always downgrade anything but the best of communications.
Description of Work: Naturescapes did an upgrade of the existing landscape. There were several small trees and shrubs that were in bad shape (either diseased or just at the end of their life-cycle). Also they trimmed up some of the ground-cover and juniper plants that were overgrown.

I was very impressed by Mike overall; he was prompt, personable and seemed knowledgeable. But, his prices were reeeeeally high. For instance, his bid to replace our driveway was more than $2000 higher than Swab Concrete's bid. He was three times higher than the one other bid I got for other general landscaping needs, though I will admit that I think the guy who came in so much lower was probably not going to do nearly as thorough a job.

We were very happy with all the drawings provided and the initial quote provided. The draws were very much what we were looking for and the price was very reasonable. We submitted the drawings to our HOA for approval and they were not approved. Our HOA required additional changes be made to the landscape. Naturescape worked directly with our HOA and requoted the project. The required HOA changes doubled the price of the project. Naturescapes offered changing the plans to make the overall project cheaper. However, we had been very pleased with some of the landscape items and felt we would be disappointed with the overall project if they were removed. After the yard area had been demolished Naturescapes let us know that the project could not be completed per the drawings, but the cost would be the same. The next day we were notified that the overall cost would be more, but we still would not have all the plants, rocks etc that had been reflected in the drawings. As we had already more than maxed out our budget for this project' I indicated I was not sure we could continue with the project. Naturescapes indicated they would "eat" the additional costs if need be. We felt Naturescapes was very honest and hardworking. However, we didn't feel the proper prep work was done to ensure the project could be completed as drawn and we ultmately ended up with a result we were dissatisfied with. We did not have any more money to put toward the project nor did we have any interest have more work done at no cost. We had multiple problems with the irrigation modifications made and we were charged additional items at cost instead of zero as indicated.
Description of Work: We hired Naturescapes to create a long term landscape plan for both our front yard and backyard. They provided detailed drawings for all areas. They quoted a project in the backyard for demolition, leveling, irrigation modification and landscaping.

We started working with the Members and had several problems come up with the HOA. I personally dealt with the HOA in efforts to make it easier on the Members. As a result of the HOA requirements the price was nearly doubled. I did my best to keep the price down but was unable to without making major cuts to the project. During construction of the playground we had to move the play set out almost double the distance from the property line that had been originally drawn as a result of the HOA requirements. When we graded the new area we discovered that the stone retaining wall that Members had liked so much was going to pose a potential hazard to the Member's children as they would have been swinging into large boulders on the swing set. As a result I brought the issue up to Member and she agreed that we needed to change the layout. The changes required that we raise the level of the playground to compensate for the elevation drop. This required several loads of soil to be brought in to fill the area. I offered to give the Members the soil and labor at wholesale cost and if they couldn't afford it I would "eat the cost". In the end I billed them for the wholesale cost and I received an letter from Member expressing her out rage for being charged the extra. I wrote back to her offering to take off the cost as promised since they were obviously having difficulty paying for it. I even offered to refund her money as she had already mailed me a check. I waited for several weeks but never heard back from her. I did everything in my power to make her happy but was unable to get a response. We finished grading and set up the area in preparation for construction of the play set. We did our best to move irrigation heads and drip lines to accommodate the new bed lines and new shrubs. The irrigation system had not been turned on yet as this project was performed in the early spring. As a result of not being able to turn on the irrigation system we did miss two heads that had been buried under the soil that had been imported. I later received a call from Member saying that he was up-set that we had missed moving the heads. I offered to come back and relocated the heads free of cost, but he refused the free service and said he would take care of it himself. I feel like we did everything we could to work with the Members on both their budget and their project. Because the circumstances forced us to make certain changes that were out of our control we could only do so much to make the Members happy. I hope that in the future I can do a better job of communicating with clients and conveying ideas and expectations.

We are working on a long term master plan from our landscape designer. We found NatureScapes LLC in Angie's List and talked extensively about them implementing the work on our master landscape plan. Mike, the owner, is very personable, informative, professional as well as creative in approaching our design. He was also very flexible on all areas of the project, and we felt we could work with him easily on every facet of the implementation from planning to billing. He put quite a lot of effort in making specific recommendations for plant materials and ground cover (like rocks or mulch for example) which were not spelled out on our master plan. He is very knowledgeable about all the options and was very responsive to all our questions. After just a few days, Mike was able to show us a specific design with lots of pictures of choices which would reflect the actual implementation of our master plan. We started with a small planting area on the first project and based on his team's great work, we decided to proceed to another, much larger, part of the yard. Mike employs a reliable team of laborers who are local to the Fort Collins/Loveland area. This was an important issue to us and we were very pleased with the labor team that worked on the project. We had asked that Mike be on-site for any parts of the project which would entail significant judgement calls and Mike was happy to do so. The entire team was on-time, courteous, and cleaned up every day after their work was complete, even going so far as to use a leaf blower to clean things like mulch scraps from the lawn surrounding the work area, even making sure any impact on the neighbor's lawn was cleaned up at the end of every day. NatureScapes LLC is in the process of putting up a web site, which I hope is soon, so people in our area can good idea of his company's great work. If you can't find them on the web and you are a Facebook user, you can see their work by searching for "Naturescapes LLC" in Facebook. There are quite a few other Naturescapes around the country but by appending the "LLC", you will find Mike's information and past project pictures. I would recommend NatureScapes LLC heartily. We will certainly be continuing with them on the subsequent phases of our master landscape plan.

Removing grass (demolition) and rebuilding of two planting areas in the front of our house. Install ground cover (mulch), plant materials, and irrigation in the planting areas. Mike is a fairly new business owner who works untold hours to try to make it right with all customers. He hit a rough spot last summer where he was short-handed- which caused him to take some time to get back to us, but he was up front about that going in, so we were fine with that. He does top quality work, he communicates with the customer and gives options when the job ends up being more that what was originally thought. He knows his stuff and is as honest as they come. We were quite pleased with the work (it became more involved, through no fault of his own) and are working on an appointment to plan what we want done this spring.
Description of Work: We bought this house in November, 2009 and it was clear that the the irrigation system needed some updates, particularly with what my wife wanted to do garden-wise with a couple of zones. We hired Mike to help us understand what we had in terms of an irrigation system, make sure it was all working as intended and making some addtiions to make sure all the garden areas were watered, which turned out to have saved our gardens during a very hot and dry summer. I may have the date and cost off a little bit, as it has been a while, but it is close.

Part of our front lawn had been demolished due to a winter water line break and we needed some professional guidance and labor to install new landscaping. Mike was able to consult with us rather quickly, give us a no-nonsense plan and bid which we liked from the start. He did work with us on tweaking the plans to our liking, and we were able to proceed easily with the project. Although he was not able to begin work for a number of weeks, once he did, he worked quickly and professionally handling many needed details. Once the job was completed, he followed up promptly with a few additions and substitutions and in the end we were thoroughly satisfied with his work. I trusted his horticultural experience and training and his sense of design. Recommend highly.
