+ -1 moreEverything went great. The overall quality was fine but I thought the price was very high though. The billing was not very clear. In the receipt nothing was itemized out. They just gave us a lump sum which didn’t tell us anything.

+ -1 moreWhen he arrived he showed me the process in his book with the price. They price the job before they look at anything and there is no flexiblity involved. The price is the price. I had to go ahead with the job since I had called and he was there. He was a nice guy and did an efficient job, but I'll never use this company again. I feel like I was taken advantage of.

Description of Work: They quoted me $10,000 to replace an electrical panel and $1100 for a toilet to be replaced. Someone else quoted me $3500 for the electrical panel.

+ 2 moreI had a great experience with Applewood. First the scheduling of the appointment was painless. The dispatcher called me back within ten minutes of my email inquiry. This was about 8:30 am, and she had an opening that morning during the 9am-11am window. The serviceman arrived at 9:30, which I thought was very timely. Prior to his arrival Applewood emailed me a picture of the serviceman with a list of his credentials and professional experience, which I found to be a nice touch. The serviceman was very amiable and presented himself well. When entering my home he slipped booties over his boots, which I appreciated. After inspecting the light and the light switch, he found that there was no problem with the light itself, but had to do with (embarrassingly enough) a halogen bulb that was of the wrong voltage. I of course felt like a complete imbecile, but the serviceman very graciously said that it was nothing to be embarrassed about and that this sort of thing happens all the time. I chose to believe him to soothe my bruised ego. Here is the most amazing part though. Because he didn't perform any service, Applewood didn't charge me anything! Yes that's right, they don't charge a service fee for just showing up. I have never encountered anything like this before and days afterward I am still pleasantly surprised at how honest and straightforward this company's policy is. You better believe that if I have any plumbing, heating or electrical problem again, Applewood will be who I call!
Description of Work: I had a service call on a halogen pendant lamp that didn't seem to be working properly.

+ 5 moreThey put a camera into the sewer line and found that the line was broken and collapsed and that we had tree roots in the line. It took a couple of days to get a crew here to replace the line and they did all they could to get us back home as quickly as possible. The work was finished in one day and most of the clean up was done. I did have to call and remind them that our yard had some more clean up and fill in needed, and the street needed repaving. They were prompt in doing the rest of the work.

My dislike would have been price associated just because I had to put a lot of money out of my pocket. They were very punctual. They were ahead of schedule. I would use them again in the future if need be.

+ -1 moreI had a room in the garage where the power had gone out. I was told there was an electrical fire in the Electrical box. That whoever put in the box to begin with use the wrong parts and that’s why I had an electrical fire. Also the entire box was illegal and he was surprised that I hadn’t had a garage fire. He quoted me $ 1200.00 to replace the complete box. I was also charged me a trip charge. I got a second opinion. There was only one bad breaker which didn’t make good contact - caused an arch between the breaker and the box - that shorted out the breaker. There had never been a fire in the box. That the only problem with the box was generic parts had been used not OEM parts. The box was completely legal. Replaced the breaker for 110.00 He didn’t charge me a trip charge.
Description of Work: Refused their service after getting a second opinion.

+ 1 moreWe had sewage come up into our basement because the main line out of the house was clogged. We called Applewood around 6AM and they were able to come out 4 hours later - though they were an hour later than they had told us. The drain was cleaned and the gentleman who did the work was very professional. However, we were told that we should replace the piping from the house to the city main and the quote he gave us was outrageous. He also quoted a couple other plumbing jobs that he had noticed weren't done quite right, and those quotes were also really high! We ended up looking around and going with an excavating company for the outside job instead, but had we paid what Applewood quoted we'd have been had! The $400 that was just to get the pipe clean enough for the time being so that we could use our water again without filling the basement with sewage.
Description of Work: Our sewage drain was "scoped" from where it leaves our house to where it reaches the city main. All debris and roots were removed.

We had them back when we wanted our furnace checked out, and once again, they told us that it was going to be a phenomenal amount, so we did not use them. We bought the water heater from them - that is the way they work. I doubt if they would have worked with us if we had bought the water heater and had them do only the installation. We would not go back to them.

+ -1 moreApplewood first came out to determine the problem and what needed to be done. We were told the faucet needed to be replaced. We were given prices (which were based on membership prices since we are a member) and options. We had Applewood come out another day because we wanted to figure out what to do. We decided to buy our own faucet (Applewood had several to choose from) to reduce the cost and we had Applewood install the faucet for us. The gentleman arrived on time, he was professional and completed the job in the time estimate they had given me. He replaced our faucet and supply lines and also a new water shut off valve. He cleaned up after himself and had me check his work before he left.
Description of Work: Our faucet was leaking from under the sink. Applewood replaced the faucet.

Description of Work: Replace the electrical box. The electrician arrived a little early and was ready to work. Gave me an initial estimate, that was about a thousand lower than what we ended up paying. We ended up assisting by tearing down part of a wall and moving furniture. We purchased the Gold Service membership. This includes 24/7 service. Our furnace has gone out. We called Applewood. There are no service people available until Monday. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON APPLEWOOD

+ -1 more3 months later the transformer that they installed was fried and needed to be replaced again. I had it replaced by another company the second time. When Applewood came out to see why the furnace was not working they saw that the transformer was blown and needed replaced. They never tried to figure out what caused the transformer to go bad. It took them 30 minutes to replace the transformer and didn't fix the main problem which was an exposed thermostat wire. They also tried to sell me a membership for $1000.00. They showed up 2 hours late with no explanation. The employee even said "we are not the cheapest in town but we don't rip people off". A $12 part and 30 minutes of work for $300 is ripping people off. I would not use this company ever again.

+ -1 moreI really don?t like these people and I was ripped off. I had an emergency and my box was sparking; they really jacked up the price because they knew they could. They had to tear up my siding and they didn?t repair it so I had to have someone else come back and fix that. They were pretty punctual and the work was good. You can buy a preferred customer membership and they give you an unpublished number but I will never do service with them again.

I called them because I saw their truck at a neighbor's house (I live out in Parker, so I often get companies who say they don't service my area). I spoke to a live person on the first ring. She was very courteous and helpful. I didn't even need an appointment that day necessarily, but they got me in THAT DAY! The technician who came out was nice and able to diagnose the problem which required him to come back the following day (I had to have the control board replaced). I was able to use my credit card over the phone without a hassle. The technician was prompt - there when he said he would be. The next day, I received a follow-up call from the company asking how the service was. That was nice as well. I will definitely use them again.

+ 1 moreWell, I would say that they did install a working Furnace, for heat, ONLY! The City Inspector has as yet to show, and I have no idea how they do it! They should not have a BBB listing, and I learned a very expensive lesson, and I also am sure that if I had been a MAN, it would have gone differently! I have joined Angie's list, and I also read Consumer magazines, your booklets, and online reviews, and I know a lot more now! What a disgraceful company! They behaved most unethically, and I was taken, and felt stupid, and I now am a super aware, yet fearful consumer, who uses Angie;s list, and the BBB of Denver is not something I personally can respect any longer! I also have a male, whenever I will do anything, but I am now having to repair the A/C, which they should have done, as I likely paid a lot! I am ashamed about the way this looks for women, and i am ashamed that I was taken, by this company, and I really have changed my approach 180 degrees, except for the 'man' issue, I am afraid to say! We have come a long way, but I am not so sure men are aware, when women allow this, and I did! They should do it for nothing, but I am aware I learned an expensive lesson.
Description of Work: I selected this company well before I knew of Angie's List; I did, however, get a Better Business Bureau of Denver Seal of Approval, and they were also recommended by another, dubious (as I feel I have now learned to not trust these, unless I repeatedly see them around) 'BEST of Denver' booklet that appeared much like Angie's List's Booklets, but I have not seen it since! This entire experience was a disaster, and I had no clue until it was too late, and they did put in a new Furnace, and I also asked them to make sure ALL worked; Since it was mid-winter, they did not repair, or properly re-install the Air Conditioning, which we had another company install but a few years earlier; They returned promptly, in the Spring, when I found out that our new Furnace, had not included the A/C! After a brief climb onto our condominium's rooftop, the man announced that I would have to pay them approximately $3000, with taxes, and additional possible charges, in order to get the A/C to work again; I was amazed, and told them to please leave, ASAP! The plumber I hired through this company came in at the same time they did the Furnace installation, and they had an electrician, who would not do anything, and said that we needed to get the whole place rewired, so I said that I could not do that without speaking to my spouse first; They did install the new furnace, which I was told, as I had requested this, was the correct size, and was 'Energy-Star' compliant; It was very hard to see anything they did, but I learned(!) from these people; The plumbing job was the very worst, and yet it initially LOOKED O.K.; But much later, I discovered that they had used cheap sealants, equal to 'LeakEnder', a spray from any store! They also did not do anything to stop the REAL sources of leaking, but I was unaware, that any company would be BBB listed, and yet.. The Plumber told me that he had been a professional for many decades; We have a Kohler faucet in the Master bath, yet he claimed they did not carry that brand, nor could they order parts, but he did show me why our bathroom sink was leaking; I had approved a bid of $1000, to fix ALL the Condominium's plumbing problems; The sinks still leak, as another cheap sealant tape worked very well, for also about a year; It came loose one day, when scouring the sink; Problems ALL reappeared, after a year or so, due to the fact that they had done nothing that a professional, competent plumber/ electrician, HVAC tech would ever do! I filed a BBB complaint, as directed. This is the worst experience I have ever had, and mostly MY fault! (and BBB listed?)
