They were great. They were out for three days in a row and he and my son-in-law could not do the work alone, so some other came. They pretty much worked straight through for the better of three days and I spent about $2000 on that service. I live in a Victorian house and my son-in-law excavated the grease pit because water had been draining in there from my basement, pumping out my washing machine. We had to empty that whole thing and throw that it and route around that so it went straight to the sewer line. They had to put it all by hand because they could not get a back hauling. My other son-in-law came down and got it back together. When they came to the house they had put on little booties so they did not stain my carpet. They were great and it was really nasty. They don’t charge extra for coming out.
Description of Work: I used Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric on the 13th of July and they worked on my sewer line with my son-in-law.

I used the recent Angie's List coupon for the work. They are near my neighborhood. I have seen them and they look very professional when they come out for work. They have their trucks all around here and they always look like just really clean tech people. I also used that as a launch pad to find out if they could look into a couple of other things and give me an estimate. The estimate was high, and I don't care about that, but it was very brief and almost like it was too bothersome to do it. They won't get my business. I know that there were options that could have been offered but they didn't even offer it. The toilet tune-up was kind of a goof ball thing and it was very weird. They came in and didn't really have anything to do to my toilet. It was very strange. They pulled the flapper off, changed it, and put a new one on. The old one was just like the new one and there was nothing wrong with it. The guy wasn't unprofessional and I don't think they were bad but I just wasn't impressed. I was astounded with the office people and they were amazing in trying to set up the appointment, and that is really why I was blown away.

The man was very pushy about how I needed to replace my water heater because it is old. I understand that they were trying to upsell me, but it was very uncomfortable. He even seemed upset that he couldn’t sell me a new water heater.

The plumber, Mitch, was knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful. He came on time and explained the service he was providing. He wore shoe protectors while walking through the house from bathroom to bathroom, and discussed each toilet's condition with me as well as the exact service he performed for each tune-up. He recommended possible further necessary service with no pressure.
Description of Work: The provider did 3 toilet tune-ups.

We purchased a Gold Membership last May when we had Applewood move some wiring, install floor electric plugins and a ceiling can light last May in our new house. The Gold Membership included the above inspections performed today, which I decided to have done now that we have been in the house 7 months. I really didn't think Applewood would find much since the house is new and we had already had some warranty work done, but the inspections were in a sense already paid for. Much to my surprise, both inspectors found significant items that I can still get fixed by my builder under our warranty. Items found include: noisy bad bearing in furnace inducer motor; low water pressure in house, toilet water levels adjusted, correct types of air filters to use in furnace/AC per season, heat ducts that need to be re-fastened/moved/re-configured, need to replace 3" 'expansion rubber' on drain stack in basement and other air duct issues. Increasing the water pressure greatly increased the functionality of the faucets and toilets in the house. Additionally, the plumber labeled the gas and water turn-off valves on the water heater and main water inlet and labeled the furnace for safe turn-off. Both inspectors seemed to be a lot more knowledgeable about our our HVAC and plumbing systems and workmanship quality than some of our builder's sub-contractors. Our builder is a nationally-recognized builder with a good reputation. I really appreciated the serve people's punctuality, thoroughness, cleanliness and professionalism. I will have Applewood back to fix whatever my builder does not agree to fix under our warranty and to fix any problems that develop in the future.
Description of Work: I had Applewood perform their 14-point inspection of entire Gas Heat system and 10-point 'Leak & Squeak' inspection of entire Plumbing system. These two inspections are included with Gold Membership we purchased last April, which also gave us a 15% discount on certain services.

When the first technician came out he wasn't overly friendly or rude. He hopped on the roof did some minor maintance and replaced float valve. Everything was great until we came home the next Friday and our ceiling had caved in underneath the swamp cooler. They quickly had a second technician arrive at the house, he was very friendly and helpful and said the first technician didn't check for leaks - he had fixed the float, but there was still a leak. So the second technician fixed a leak and pointed out that whoever installed the swamp cooler had not properly patched the roof, so that was why water was getting into the house. Two days later we had to call again because water was leaking through the hole in the ceiling. On the third visit, the technician was prompt, but it was the same one as the first visit. Again, not friendly or rude and he found another leak. We were not charged for the second and third visit and it appears to finally be fixed. When I called the first time I advised that I was a AAA member and was supposed to get a discount. The gentleman that made me the first appointment, told me to just tell the technician when he arrived. When the first technician finished the work he didn't know anything about a AAA discount and made a phone call. The best he could do was give me 5%, which was not the advertised discount on the AAA website. I don't know if $350 is a fair price for the work done, but I had sticker shock. I will never use their services again, though their customer service people are friendly on the phone and they are very prompt - I don't have much trust in their technicians.
Description of Work: We called initially because our Swamp Cooler was leaking alot of water down the gutter and dripping off the side of the house.

Not the first time I've used Applewood, and it won't be the last as the concern and care for my problem was outstanding. On Tuesday, I noticed an unusual smell in my house, a smell like I had been cooking sauerkraut. On Wednesday, the smell was intensified. I called Applewood and they were willing to schedule same day service, but I make the appt for Thursday due to my schedule. Their check was thorough, sewer and vents, etc. They determined my inline vent fan from the crawl space to the outdoors was inoperable. Upon pulling the fan, they found 2 rabbits wedged in the burned out fan. After a quick phone call, they sourced the inline fan, picked it up, and installed it. Alas, my house is odor free. The service tech was outstanding...professional, friendly, and concerned about me. He also pointed out that my water heaters are about 13 years old and showing serious signs of future failure. WIth no pressure to close the sale, he gave me two replacement options for me to consider. I wish every vendor was as professional as Applewood.

The service personal arrived on time and the dispatcher kept us informed before and after the work. The employee was professional and appeared to check everything involved. He completed his work and gave us a report on what he found and an estimate of any repair costs if we decided to fix in the future. He told us what was absolutely necessary and what was our choice.

Awesome experience! No problem with scheduling the appointment on Saturday morning at 9:00am. A call was made to confirm the appointment, along with an email containing a picture and qualifications of the electrician that was going to be coming to my home. The email was a very much appreciated extra touch! Walt, the master technician, arrived at exactly 9:00am. He introduced himself in a friendly manor, and promptly put on shoe covers, which I always appreciate! He diagnosed my problem quickly, to replace the ballast in my kitchen light, which I had already assumed must be the problem. He gave me a clear and consise estimate of the work to be done along with an offer to join their member's club.I accepted the estimate which encluded a $35 coupon. Walt coverd the hardwood floor where he was working and changed the ballast in record time. We carried on a conversation about this and that the whole time and he never missed a beat! He couldn't have been more courteous or professional! After finishing the job he took my payment and gave me his card and a few additional coupons for future services, shook my hand and was out the door------all within forty minutes!! I couldn't have been more pleased---and I am extremely hard to please! I defintely will use Applewood again--and ask for WALT! A few minutes after Walt had left, I got a follow up call asking if the appointment was to my expectations--which it was! Great customer followup!

First Experience/service date = June 2011 While on the phone with the dispatcher/scheduler I made it clear that I needed both services (de- and re-winterization) and that we needed the technician there as early as possible in an effort to coincide with the water-turn-on-time. The technician was more than an hour late. I ended up doing the de-winterization myself to keep on track with the appraisal schedule. When the tech finally arrived, I confirmed that I already completed the work and he informed me that I still had to pay for a trip charge. Realizing that I also had to have a receipt for 'de-winterization' on that same day, I asked the tech to provide a receipt for the work that I had done myself. The tech confirmed that in order to provide a receipt, he would have to complete the work himself. I agreed to this and asked if he could provide a receipt for re-winterization. The tech confirmed that Applewood PH&E does not perform winterization services and that I would have to find another provider. I made it clear that the dispatcher said that they would be happy to perform both services but the tech confirmed that they do not provide re-winterization service. (re-winterization was required by the listing agent) When we discussed pricing and payment for the de-winterization service, the "Membership Fee" and actual service were so close in price that I chose the membership fee. 2nd Experience (August 2011) I asked for Applewood PH&E to provide an estimate for repairs. The tech arrived, reviewed the situation and told me that he would have a quote e-mailed to me by the end of the day. I never received a quote that day so I called dispatch (the following afternoon) and asked them to contact the tech and have the quote sent to me. The tech called within 5min and confirmed that he asked his office staff to type up the estimate and send it to me yesterday. He called back to his office, and asked for the quote to be sent. Within approximately 5-10min, I received a call from the office staff confirming that the quote had been sent. I reviewed the quote and was surprised to see that it was nearly 3X more expensive than the other contractor that bid on the same job. Applewood PH&E has fantastic employees! Everyone I spoke to was courteous, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately, these good people are subject to poor quality policies, procedures and pricing that makes it difficult for them to place the customer first in all their efforts. Applewood PH&E (corporate) is more focused on making money and enforcing policies than they are in providing a quality service to their customers. I highly recommend Applewood PH&E when it comes to their employees. However, I highly discourage using them for any job because of their corporate policies and pricing.
Description of Work: First Experience/service date = June 2011 I called Applewood Plumbing, Heating and Electric and asked if they could perform de-winterization as well as re-winterization on a property I was having appraised. 2nd Experience (August 2011) - I thought I would give them a 2nd try. Having closed on the property, I inspected the property to find that someone broke into the house and stole several of the copper supply lines and attachments. Since I was a member of Applewood Plumbing, Heating and Electric, I thought to include them in the bidding for repair work knowing that I would not have to pay for a trip charge.

We moved from another state into a new house and the computer and TV wiring in room to be used for office needed to be moved so we could finish setting up the office. So we wanted it done within a day or two day of moving in. Then we decided we needed a floor plug-in in the family room for more light and we needed one ceiling light added in the family room. An electrician from this company came out the next day and gave us an honest but absurd estimate of the costs, which we thought were extravagant but he would start the job the next day. The company also pushed for us to join their Gold Club to get discounts and an inspection later in the year. The quality of the work was good and done in a timely manner, but the costs were so high we won't use them again. Overall, it cost us about $500 per hour for the work that was done.

My water heater died suddenly. In December. I called Applewood, along with several others, to get a quote. Their salesman, not a repairman, came out and give me a quote of over $3500 for a 75 gallon heater. This included a "membership" to a preferred customer program that would ensure any future requests for service I may have would be given a higher priority. Really? I need to pay extra (on top of an already outrageously high base price) for good service? I also got the distinct impression Applewood was trying to take advantage of a seemingly desperate situation. I thanked the polite young man for coming, then called Sears. I paid LESS THAN ONE THIRD the cost of what Applewood quoted me, including some plumbing work to bring everything up to code. P.S It seems these days I am offered some type of "memberships" or "clubs" on almost every appliance and electronic purchase: pay extra to ensure the darn thing works. It should work to begin with! I refuse to buy into this type of scam (excuse the pun) and never, ever pay for these types of programs.

Called to request the membership included tune up and cleaning. Membership does not guarantee prompt service for non emergency repairs such as a furnace cleaning (it took two months to get a technician to come out for the cleaning). The technician (in my opinion seemed new to HVAC) spends less than 30 minutes with my furnace, comes upstairs and announces he needs to talk to me and my whole family together. Reports that my 7 year old furnace has a gas leak in the valve, a bad capacitor, and cracks in the heat exchanger causing carbon monoxide to be blown into the house so he cannot turn back on my furnace (i will have to do it myself). He does not show me his proof of any of these issues but wants to quote a new furnace and schedule the replacement (quotes me 7000.00 to replace a 2000.00 furnace). I get two other opinions so that i can get competitive quotes on the replacement, including the installer of the furnace. They point out it is under warranty (which the tech from applewood did not bother to look into with the paperwork attached to the side of the furnace). Two techs (one with 20+ years experience) from other companies reported my furnace is fine after spending an hour looking for the issues reported (gas leak, bad capacitor, and cracks) and also noted the tech from applewood did not reassemble my furnace correctly. They showed me the heat exchanger and the fact that there are no cracks. The first tech to inspect the furnace also noted (and showed me) the blower wasn't reinstall properly, what things were not cleaned and were not touched. Called the office and reported this, they took it seriously but backed their tech in the evaluation without sending out another tech for a second opinion. Wanted to send the same tech back out and meet with the installer's tech to review the findings. I was not pleased with the scare tactic used by the applewood tech (tells my whole family they could be subjected to carbon monoxide poisoning) so i did not agree to the meeting. Interesting how a cleaning, tune up and inspection is not priority yet could result in finding a life threatening carbon monoxide leak.
