They told us we would need to spend $3500 to replace our system. We got a second opinion from another gentleman; he simply cleaned our system for $80 and it works just fine.

I ended up getting the kitchen faucet and its installation for fraction of the quote given to me by Applewood.

Most went well, very thorough work. However, ended up with hot glycol spewing from the boiler room. Also got an estimate of 2K to get everything fixed, everything was in working order but the parts should be replaced soon. Seems a bit overpriced, paid for a yearly membership and a septic additive which was never installed at the time.
Description of Work: Inspected boiler, did squeeks and leaks inspection. Replaced kitchen sink plumping, replaced toilet soil that needed to be fixed.

I didn't use them. Their pricing was so outrageous, I had no problem showing them the door. I had a frozen pipe; about 18 inches of copper pipe and an outside faucet needed replacing. I found someone who charged by the hour and not by the job and got it done for $136.00. I had had the problem before and knew their price was outrageous. They are taking advantage of people. I don't care how good they are supposed to be -- they are taking advantage of people. I will never call them again.

He had to replace all the hardware/shower fixtures, cut a small hole in the wall to replace and repair valves and a few other items in regards to the plumbing.
Description of Work: That morning the shower control fixture broke and we had to turn the water to the house off to get the shower to shut off. We placed a call to Applewood and told them we had an emergency and explained the situation. They said they could get a tech out before ten but then called back and had a tech available to come out right away. We were very relieved. He was prompt and explained the whole situation to us and spent most of the morning until around 1:30 doing major repair work that had to be done. He was very courteous and knew exactly what he was doing and did the repairs in a very professional manner. We recommend Applewood for any plumbing issues and felt that the price was consistent with the work that had to be done.

It went ok, The services provider was very professional and was very respectful. He laid down on the ground in the crawl space a large cloth and left it there when he left, which ws very nice of him. He also gave me a pair of shoe covers. The work was very professional. Thanks
Description of Work: The services person came into the house dressed in a suit and went down into the crawl space to inspect a small leak in my main sewer line and then quoted me $1200 to fix, which included a $200 service plan. It took him 30 minutes to cut the pipe and replace it.

I used to love Applewood. I was a dedicated customer for 6 years. They were never the cheapest but I liked the customer service and reliability. So when I came home and found my air conditioner had stopped working, I called Applewood. Within 30 minutes I had a technician at my door. He quickly looked at the system and proceeded to tell me that I had major corrosion issues, a leak in the coolant and the system needed immediate repair and could not run without them. He gave me the estimate... $4000!!?!? Really, a REPAIR is going to cost more than installing an entirely new system? I decided to get a second (and third) opinion and called out two other companies. They both laughed at the report from Applewood and said yep.. that's Applewood. Apparently the company that I have really liked for years has taken a turn for the worse. The second guy pointed out that the Applewood technician had never even taken the panel off the outside unit (spider webs still on it). He tested the unit, said there was no leak and the corrosion was normal wear-and-tear rusting for a system of its age. He found that my condenser coils on the outside unit were too dirty and the system froze because it wasn't getting enough air. He took the hose, washed it down for 5 minutes, retested the system and declared it to be in excellent condition. The third opinion, likewise, said the system is in excellent condition and shows no evidence of a leak or needing replacement of any parts. That following week we had nearly 100 degree temps each day and the system did wonderfully! I did speak with a manager at Applewood about this situation and she did seem genuinely concerned. For my trouble, she offered me a free year of the Applewood membership club. I told her no thanks. I will NEVER call Applewood again. There are plenty of other companies that will do the work, just as well but won't try to take advantage of you. Would like to update that one week after posting this review, I was contacted by a different Applewood manager who has offered to reimburse me the $185 it cost for a second opinion and did renew my club membership in case I decide to try them again. It is nice to see that they are genuinely concerned about this experience and willing to make amends. I have changed my overall experience rating from an F to a C. So the take home message is, call Applewood and you will likely get a good quality but not the cheapest job done. However, if something sounds wrong or too expensive, get a second opinion.
Description of Work: Came out to look at our air conditioner and why it wasn't working.

The service club membership was $198 and I was told that this would allow discounts for future service and waive the service call fees. The membership included one free "21 point inspection" of our A/C unit. As we have 2 units in the house I had to purchase the second inspection at $109. I was told to expect a 3-4 hour inspection (total), however he was done in about 50 minutes. He told me that both of the A/C units needed new capacitors at a discounted club price of $386 per capacitor. He also highly recommended a chemical cleaning of the coils at a club price of $232 per unit. The total to have these repairs would have costed $1,236!! I told him that I needed to discuss this with my husband and I also called another heating and A/C company (Meyers). The company that I called came out and for a grand total of $75 did the same inspections, cleaned the coils with the garden hose as chemicals should not be used on the coils, and said the capacitors were a little leaky but not in need of replacing. They offered to replace at $35 per! So, in a nutshell, Applewood is a major rip-off company that should be exposed for their ridiculous scam-artist pricing. Although I paid the $198 club membership, I will not ever call them again, nor recommend them. In fact I will warn all my friends and neighbors to steer clear of Applewood...and I will recommend and call Meyers in the future.
Description of Work: I initially called Applewood to clear a clogged bath tub drain. They were responsive and were able to come that day. I foolishly signed up for their service club thinking it would save us money on future plumbing, heating and A/C repairs. Not a wise move.

My breaker had gone bad in my house so my electricity was off. The person who came out to help was Brian Bach who I strongly feel cheated me out of all of the money paid. He replaced the breaker and changed the wire in the fan. I got the idea to call to get this company since I saw the ad for the electrical work. Once I had gotten a hold of them to come out someone came out and told me that I needed to ?look at some of the options with our company?, he went through a bunch of things and I kept thinking maybe I do need it and maybe get my house rewired and he said it was for $4200.? He looked at what I had and came next day and brought in all of his stuff and I thought this guy is going to do good work for me.? He started with dining room and took down all the blades for the fan and he was adding wire instead of rewiring the whole house.? He went to the front room and added wire to that and did the bedroom and he was here for two and half hours and he pulled out a piece of paper and said , ?when I was here yesterday you signed this paper and this is a hard copy and you owe me $4200?.? I said, ?you haven?t been here long and only for two hours?, and he said, ?that?s alright! And you signed the hardcopy and I want $4200?.? He got the money from me.? I waited for a month and I was thinking this guy cheated me.? I called his company and spoke to a woman supervisor and I told, ?your man cheated me out of $4200? and she said, ?I can give you $600 back? and I said, ?my lawyer wants more?, but I didn?t have a lawyer at that time and I said, ?he says I need to get $2000?, and I should have said the whole amount but I didn?t. ?I only got a 3rd of it back .There is so much more to say here but this is little more than the jist of it? I think they were very high priced.?? I feel very bad about this guy and I old enough and may have attained enough wisdom to know that something is wrong here.

The tub is still clogged and has always stayed that way. The technician suggested I buy a natural enzyme drain cleaner from him for $60, I declined and found it at Home Depot for around $10. He talked me into their club membership and like a fool I paid $198 for nothing. He talked me into it because I would get my furnace inspection for no cost. That was scheduled for the afternoon of the same day with a different technician. The swamp cooler shut off valve did get installed for $474.11 and is completely over done. At least that works. It looks like a ride from Disneyland it is so big. The furnace guy came in the afternoon and basically told me my furnace was installed improperly although it has worked perfectly fine for the past 11 years. He gave me a bid of $7220 to make all the "repairs" to a furnace that works perfectly fine. He was only there to inspect it and clean it.Plus it was going to cost me $190.57 to clean off a part of the furnace with compressed air, part of my "free" furnace inspection that I had paid $198 for in the morning. I would never use them again and have been completely unhappy about this experience since it happened.
Description of Work: My bathtub was draining slowly. They charged me $381.35 for a tub renew kit, which consisted of replacing the drain stopper and then proceeded to tell me that I needed about $2500 in plumbing repair work done, all for a clogged drain. He also replaced the swamp cooler shut off valve.

I purchased the big deal coupon. They were way overpriced. We also got a quote from them as were looking for someone to move some plumbing in our laundry room and their quote was outrageous. It was over a $1000 for something that we ended up paying may be $200. I do remember that my wife found it comical and said it was just crazy. They did not do any work. Either way on the toilet checkup thing was a waste of time and money. They didn't tell me that I didn't know already and wouldn't do anything. If we talked about anything it was extra.

I have to give Applewood VERY high marks for responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism. The repair in March was a call out for "No Heat" from the furnace. The technician stated that the "Pressure Safety Switch" needed to be replaced, which was done for $464.00. I was out of town, and had a friend facilitate the transaction, however I will do my research next time so I can be a bit more prepared. I question the pricing due to the following experience with them. I did not price this repair anywhere else, and frankly don't want to know how much I may have overpaid. The call to them I made in June was for "No Hot Water". This time I was involved from the beginning, and the tech was again prompt, professional and polite. He determined what the problem was, then gave me written estimates for replacing the part, or replacing the entire water heater. While the tech prepared the estimate, I got on the phone and called around for prices for the appropriate water heater, and separately for the part needing replacement. I have their estimate in writing, and they wanted to charge me FOUR TIMES AS MUCH for a new water heater installed, and FOUR TIMES AS MUCH for the new part, installed. I decided to replace the water heater using someone else. If you are desperate, and have the money to spare they are very prompt, with friendly service. However, they are VERY expensive...you are forewarned.
Description of Work: This review will cover two calls to Applewood, the one in March for a heating issue and the one in June for a water heater issue. They did a repair in March, and a service evaluation call for a water heater in June.

They dug out the whole line out to the alley on a weekend for no extra weekend rate fees! They filled in the grease pit to close it off after they bypassed it. The last time the grease trap was serviced was in 1930 and these guys handled it with no problem. They were super clean and wore booties inside my home to keep the dirt off my white carpet. I highly recommend them! They also gave me some coupons for repeat business incentive or refering a friend!
Description of Work: They came out to fix my old grease trap attached to the plumbing that exited the house.
