It was a lot. It was $2000 because they had to put different pipes in because everything was not done right for the size. They explained it all and it made sense. So we just said, "Go ahead and do it." Now I feel confident that the water heater is not going to leak and go all over the place. You get what you pay for. You can go over to Home Depot and get a water heater there, but they don't last as long. So, I just feel like we got our monies worth. The technicians are just really good. The pricing was fair for the job. They're same all the time. That's what I like, they're consistent. I know they're going to remind me, I know they're going to call when they're 15 minutes away, I know I'll get an e-mail with the guy's picture. I just know what it's going to be like all the time.
Description of Work: They inspected the water heater.

The guy that came out refused to do the work. He did nothing but go downstairs and sniff around and say oh you have a blockage. I think I might have paid extra for him to putter around the furnace. It was not a successful call.

The gentleman that came over was very nice and professional. He did a nice job explaining where the problems in the line were and what was causing it. He explained how they would fix it. Everything was fine except the price. Way out of line. We received about 4-5 quotes and Applewood was more than double most of the other quotes. I understand some lower quotes we received were not all inclusive and/or did not include a warranty. But the company we went with gave us a warranty, the quote was all inclusive and they did an amazing job! We had called Applewood one another time prior to this to replace a garbage disposal and they quoted us $900. The service and responsiveness was fine. The price is far too high.
Description of Work: We needed a new sewer line from our house to the main line. We had them come and scope the sewer line and provide a quote for replacing the line.

The gentleman who came was very nice but not knowledgeable about water heaters in anyway, shape or form. I don't think he was a plumber. As one person said in another view, the first thing they do is sell you up to the membership. When I said that sounded like a good deal, he proceeded to try and relight the pilot light. It took him over an hour to find out what the problem was, he was constantly calling people to find out what he was looking at. When he was done with the conversations, there was 5 minutes of personal conversation about his schedule, his shifts, etc. He concluded that the whole hot water heater had to be replaced because it was "rusted," and that in order to be able to warranty the work, all the copper piping associated with it would have to be replaced. I told him that it had been replaced within the last 4 years, he said it didn't matter. I asked what the ballpark estimate was, he said $5-6,000.00. I paid him 29.00 for the visit. When he backed the truck out of the driveway, he went right into the ditch and got stuck. He called to get help. I gave him a drink and said that I needed to go upstairs and sit down (I'm disabled and have bad knees). I pulled out a chair for him to sit in, gave him my remote control and said that he could watch tv until the tow truck came. He said that instead, he was come upstairs with me and "visit." He said that the estimated time for the tow truck was an hour and a half. Before he left, he said that he would call me the next day. I called the company later in the afternoon (the next day) and let them know that he had promised me a call and had not called back. I also told them everything that I mentioned above because It was very unprofessional and extremely taxing appointment for me and that I was disappointed that no one had called to apologize. I thought they needed to know how inconvenienced I was and why I was choosing not to do business with them. The next day, a woman called (I can only guess she was in the Sales Depatment, she did not leave her title with the message) and very condescendingly, apologized for the guy getting stuck in the ditch BUT wanted to explain to me what the charges were going to be. I got the impression that since I was a female, they had asked her to call me because they thought she could smooth out the issues and be sold more successfully because she could relate to me better, as a female. I also found out that the gentleman came to my house earlier in the day to talk with me. I thought that was very inappropriate especially since he didn't have an appointment After complaining to them that this appointment had transpired which in my opinion was exhausting, a waste of my time, and downright creepy and having them takeaway that I was upset by the fact that the gentleman was stuck in the ditch, that let me know that no one listens and that their only goal was to suck every single penny out of me that they could. My only regret is that I didn't tell the guy to wait in his truck or call the police to ask them to stay away from me. Or, to ask for my money back. I'm just too creeped out.
Description of Work: I made an appointment for Applewood to come and restart my Hot Water Heater after the room that is in, had been under the water table for a month and a half.

I have had a bad experience with this company in the past and while they handled it well, I was very hesitant to call Applewood again. A light switch sparked and tripped the breaker. I needed someone out this evening and called two other companies but couldn't get anyone to come out. So, I decided to try Applewood again. Tony was at my house within 40 minutes, was very kind and courteous, fixed the problem quickly and didn't charge as we have the gold membership. Honestly, today's prompt, professional and generous service call has won us back as customers. While Applewood isn't the cheapest company, you do get what you pay for and worth the few extra dollars.

We had not had heat in 24 hours. We had called our regular furnace guy and he was unable to help so we hit Angie's list. After the first company blew us off we tried applewood. I fell for the trap of seeing their trucks around town so they should be quality providers. Now I know why they have such fancy trucks. They charged us 4 times what the cost should have been. They quoted us a price and told us what was wrong. While the guy was nice and professional it was not nearly worth paying 4 times the price. They were even over an hour past the window in which they said they would be here. Unfortunately they had us because it was already 6:30pm on a Sunday and we couldn't call anyone else. We thought that we were probably being overcharged a little but when the repairman left and I looked up the part and what the labor should cost the part was only $45 so the labor at most maybe $100 right. We will not be using them again. They did call about 15 minutes after the guy left to ask our opinion and we told them what we had discovered. We were sent to a voicemail system to share our input so we will see if we hear back.
Description of Work: Identified why the furnace was not working.

Applewood Plumbing was a wonderful experience with Mike! He was a life saver!! I had just gone through an awful experience with another plumbing company that left with the problem unresolved. Mike came in and picked up the pieces and fixed the problems the other company had created with my hot water heater and he also fixed two leaky pipes. He was very thorough, professional, and nice. He went above and beyond and took the time to explain to me the process and answered all of my questions. I would definitely recommend Applewood Plumbing to my family and friends!! Very impressed!

Applewood came out on an emergency hot water replacement job. Their quote to replace the gas hot water was laughable - $3,000. They were sent packing, and the installer stormed out of the house and raced out through the neighborhood. They engage in deceptive business practices by refusing to quote a price before arriving at the house, but once at the house all prices are quoted from their pricing book. They know that if they quote the book price over the phone, they won't be invited to the house. I talked to one of their managers - Jennifer who stood by the bid and by their deceptive business practices. Never Again with this company!'

Called applewood for a leaking hot water heater. Tech arrived as scheduled and was friendly. He confirmed that the existing hot water heater was leaking and needed a replacement. He shared that with the law changes, there wasn't a compatible solution to work in my house configuration and let me know about two options. First was to replace natural gas with electric for a cost of $6500.00 or install a tankless for $11,000.00. This was ridiculous. I had the tech bypass leaky tank and let him know I would find an alternative option. The simple bypass cost $450 which I also think was absurd for 90 min of effort and a few feet of pipe. I later looked at Lowes and found a replacement natural gas tank for $600 that would fit in my house. I will a different plumber to install.

I had them come out and take a look at my furnace. They figured out that the controller board is not functioning and needed to be replaced. They wanted to charge me $1600. I checked my self and the board was about $50 and the job should take about an hour. I believe Applewood is price-gouging during the winter time.

I called for service and they gave a very reasonable service call charge. The tech showed up on time. He then suggested the price should be around 450.00. I agreed and he began work. One hour later he finished work and gave me the invoice. It was for one hour of labor and about 330 for the pump. I looked online for the market price for the pump on Amazon: [*** Link removed ***] That's right, they had marked the pump up from $84.01 to $330.00. I complained and said I would pay a 100% markup but not 392%. He said I had agreed to the invoice and that was that. Stay a million miles away from these guys. I did some investigating and they are paid on commission from markup on parts. Be smart and move on. Randy Duncan

It took him about 45 minutes to replace the light switches and electrical sockets. Moving the doorbell chime took him about an hour. The only thing he had to provde were the lightswitches and outlet plugs. He got here about 10:00AM and was gone before 2:00PM, and he charged me $1952.00. I will say he did great work, but the price is just ridiculous.
Description of Work: I hired them to replace 4 light switches and 2 electrical sockets as they had been painted over. They also moved a doorbell chime from one wall to another. I then had him remove a security system that was halfway removed already. Finally I had him put up 2 light fixtures that I had purchased.

Not well. The tech was unable to find replacement parts for the water heater, which we had expected, since the manufacturer had moved their operations to Canada. He was unwilling to quote for the brand I wanted as a 'purchase and install' job. I researched the brand that his company was recommending and had a very clear understanding of retail cost of the various models, what they would provide, and what warranties were available. He duly came up with a quote and after I had caught my breath, I asked for a breakdown of that quote (into time and materials), which has not been provided. Doing the simple math of subtracting the retail cost of the most expensive of the brands' models from the quote, it would seem they were proposing to charge just under $4000.00 in labor fees. I chose to go with another company. I have had this company out three times now. I had signed a service contract, which purported would save me money, on the first visit after I winced at the cost of replacing two simple stop valves. I suppose it did, but their prices are exceedingly high. I cannot fault them on cleanliness, customer service, or the demeanor of their technicians, but their prices are way too high, to my mind, and they leave me feeling skinned. They all carry a comb-bound binder of set prices for various jobs and use it to show the homeowner that what they are charging is the going rate in Denver. I take leave to doubt this and was never offer the binder to look at, so I have no idea who published it. It may have been an in-house document for all I know. If your income can support their prices, go for it. Otherwise do a better job of shopping around than I did.

Description of Work: I needed a new tub overflow because mine was leaking into the basement. Adam Fahring "master plumber"from Applewood Plumbing and Heating showed up and looked the situation over for less than 5 minutes. He told me we needed a new tub shoe and overflow. I had no idea what that was but expected it the be $200-$300 for Adam Faring "Master Plumbers" time and for a huge mark up on the parts. $1,120 !?! That was the quote with a straight face. I laughed out loud and told him I would pay his $29 trip charge. I then went to youtube and learned how to repair this myself. It cost $38 and me, Dave with no plumbing experience got it done in 2 trips to home depot and about 1.5 hours of actual labor.

They were prompt and professional, but immediately tried to up-sell us to their service club membership ($200). They also quoted the repair, without a membership, at $740 - the discount with the membership was $598. The service technician never took it apart or looked inside, just made the quote. We felt that this was exceptionally high and called Sunshine, Plumbing and Heating (also on Angie's List), and they too sent someone out the same day. They opened it up, looked inside, tested a few things, and then quoted us for the same repair on the blower wheel at $383. They didn't try to up-sell us on anything and repaired it on the same day.

I just had a bathroom remodeled and purchased a new granite top and a Watermark faucet set for the vanity. I contacted Applewood Plumbing and requested Mike Christianson to install the new faucets because Mike had done work at my home before and it was a very positive experience. Mike arrived mid afternoon and completed the installation and like the last time he worked at my home he was very pleasant and completed the job in a professional manner. The Watermark faucets that I had Mike install are expensive and they have a polished finish and he was very careful not to scratch or damage, he also made sure that the new granite top was not damaged, that all of the connections were secure, and he cleaned up the area where he was working after he finished the Job. If all of the plumbers at Applewood Plumbing performed there jobs and treated the customer the way Mike treats his customers Applewood Plumbing would have all !00% positive reviews. Ron C Denver CO.
