In everything we do, whether it's in the office or in your home, we strive to do what's right. But what does "right" mean to us? What standard are we measuring ourselves against? The answer is hidden in our company's name.
A "plumb line" is a string attached to a weight. Its purpose is to ensure that something is upright and straight. It provides an objective standard against which one can measure what he has built.
Our "plumb line"—our test for doing what's right—is doing what's true, fair, and upright according to the moral standards set by God.
Jeff Belk, our founder, used that standard to create our company's Core Values.
These values inhabit every nook and cranny of Plumbline Services. Meaning these are the values we hire by. Fire by. And—most importantly for you—live by.
The first technician initially said that the refrigerant level was low and needed a recharge but he did not have the correct refrigerant (R410A) in his service truck. We paid him for the AC check and he called Plumbline to scheduled another technician to complete the recharge of the refrigerant later that same day. A more experienced technician arrived in the afternoon and after inspecting the AC, said that the compressor was leaking oil and would need to be replaced. He advised a new AC system and quoted $6,500 for repair. We thanked him and said we would call to schedule the work after time to get a second opinion and to consider his estimate. We called another HVAC service provider to evaluate our AC. A technician from the second company evaluated our system, with a focus on the compressor (I told him about the other company's opinion), and said that all we needed was the refrigerant recharge (after he performed a leak-test to confirm no problems there), but he also did not have the needed R410A on his truck (also it was late the next day), so he scheduled a time to return for the service. He returned (two days later) and performed the service with a total cost of $350. However, subsequent failure of the AC system (about a week) proved that there was actually a problem with the compressor. Nevertheless, a third company was able to install a new compressor, with only a labor charge since, as it turned out, the old compressor was still within its 10-year warranty! I believe that the second Plumbline technician did not give the best advice saying that we needed a completely new air conditioner! Moreover, he probably should have investigated whether it was still under warranty but he seemed committed to selling us a new system and even suggested a complete overhaul of our three zone heating and cooling system with a cost of up to (or possibly more than) $12,000!
Description of Work: This was an advertised special to evaluate my 11 year-old air conditioner which was not cooling our house as well as in previous summers.

The tech was very knowledgeable and polite, walking me thru what had to be done and why. He finished quickly and everything is working fine.
Description of Work: I've used Plumbline a few times and their techs are always polite and knowledgeable, however, I'm always a little suspect of their pricing. I bought their CAP plan which has so far yield no benefits at all - when I had a water back up in my basement they couldn't schedule me for better than three days out. No way I'll renew that. They just recently quoted me approximately about 800.00 to start up my swamp cooler (because I need new pads and the bolts need oiling). This deal is currently up from another service as an "Angie's Big Deal" for $49.00. I'm sure the true cost is somewhere in between but, I think Plumbline is one of those companies that makes everything on the upsell. So, I only use them sporadically.

Came out at the scheduled time, professional and all, but about $1500 over the bid we went with. This was to fix the pipe where it comes out of the house and about 5 feet into the yard, about 2-1/2 feet down. A four hour job from start to finish-hand digging and all. I'm sure these guys do good work, but way too expensive.

The tech arrived early. Hs name was Clinton and he was GREAT. I always want to learn more about my systems so he and I worked the problem together. At first he thought it was a TXV part then the pressures were low, he checked for a leak. Then added R22. Still the problem persisted. Then we got to banging on the value and saw the pressures fluctuate and knew the part was ad. He will finish up on Sat. Hopefully that will be the fix. I will say, there parts and service costs are very high compared to others but time will. Soon tell if it worth the cost.
Description of Work: The HVAC tech was very professional and experienced. That I appreciated very much. He had to order a part for my AC unit and will return on Sat.

You know that feeling where you wonder if you were taken advantage of? This is the exact feeling that I had when Plumbline Services left my home. Without knowing anything about this company, I called because I had a coupon for them. The company agreed to come out and inspect the problem for free which gave me a good first impression of the company. The plumber that came out to our house quickly turned that good impression into bad one. After inspection, he pulled out the mysterious "book" and gave us an outrageous price with quite a few mark ups. They offered me a slightly lower price if I joined and paid their membership fees. After I saw this price, I decided it was too high and politely declined service. The plumber became rude at that point by making comments that made me sound like a cheapskate. After he left, I called his boss who offered me a slight discount. I said that I would talk with my partner and call him back to let him know. My partner and I were talking when the door bell rang. It was the plumber who said he got a call to return. At that point, we decided to let him perform the service needed. All the while, he was making comments under his breath not to mention that he smelled like cigarettes. When it came time to pay, I was presented with a bill with more markups. Since the service was done and I wanted the plumber out of my home, I handed him my credit card along with the coupon (the reason I initially called them). He looked at the coupon and said he wasn't going to accept this. He then called his boss and despite me being across the table from him, proceeded to talk rudely about me. He got off the phone and said he was right and they would not accept the coupon because they did the inspection for free. Weeks after this service, we realized that the father of one of our good friends works for a plumbing company. When I told him about what happened, he confirmed that we were indeed over charged. This was my experience with Plumbline Services. Would I use them again? NO! Would I recommend them to anyone? NO! My guess is that this company does not rely on repeat business or referrals.

Matt and Mike showed up on time after a phone call in the morning. The were both professional cleaning up after themselves and making sure not to track dirt in from out side. The pricing was upfront so there were no surprise charges after the service was completed. The workmanship of the replacement valve was top notch and Mike even anchored the water line down to make it more stable. Well done and will use Plumbline again.

Overall, I would not call them again due to the manner in which they attempted to upsell us in the field. The pricing is the primary reason I am giving them low marks in terms of professionalism. This is not so much of an issue with the plumber as he was only doing his job, but with the overall character of the company leadership and management that would allow this to happen. I have noticed at least one other review of Plumbline on Angie's list that had the same experience that we did.
Description of Work: Plumbline was called out to deal with a stoppage in the drain in the bathroom. The person responding to our call was punctual and professional in his demeanor and approach. We had called based upon a $99 marketing coupon that we had received from them for unclogging drains. We told him that we needed to have the drain unclogged but also wanted to see if he would provide us with a quote for the installation of a replacement sink (which we had purchased the week before at Lowe's). He proceeded to look around in the bathroom and decided that we also needed to have the toilet flapper and flush mechanism replaced and a total rebuild of the toilet. Not sure what a total rebuild of the toilet even is but i assume that means lifting it up and replacing the gasket fitted to the floor. After we heard the price, we did not need to ask those detailed questions. For those 2 additional items, we received a quote of $ 420 for the installation of the sink we had purchased and $ 250 for the replacement of the toliet flush mechanism and $ 450 for the rebuild of the toilet. . Based upon his estimate of time it would take, I estimated that he was charging us about $ $400 per hour. It was obvious that he was in full up-sell mode, which i am certain is a part of their basic field sales training. I did not get the impression that the plumber was comfortable at all with his quote, but assume he was only doing his job. We thanked him for the quote but told him No Thanks! Although they did a good job in unclogging the drain and honored the $ 99 coupon, he did get us for an additional $ 50 for a biological agent he poured down the drain as a prevention against future stoppages. The bottom line is you get just as good of a job done, if not better elsewhere, without having to pay these outlandish prices for services that are sold on the spot. To me this is an issue of corporate character and I do not like what it infers about Plumbline and the manner in which they do business. I also beleive that we did not have a need for a total rebuild of our toilet, although the flush mechanism was old and should have been replaced. For those prices, i decided to do that myself, which I was able to accomplish in about a hour. and I am not a plumber. Buyer beware when it comes to buying plumbing services.

The customer service representative - Adam was very professional and helpful. The service call was scheduled at a time that worked well with my schedule so I didn't have to take off work. Dimitri arrived shortly after the start of the 3:00 to 5:00 window I was given. He assessed the problem with my furnace. He thoughly explained the costs involved before proceeding. I OK'd the work and he went to a supply house to get the part. During the time he was gone, I even got a call from customer service telling me when Dimitri would return (exceptional customer service). He returned promptly and installed the new part in a very timely manner. To my relief, I had heat and did not have to stay in a hotel as I had expected. I couldn't be happier with the service I received from Plumbline Services.

Plumbline was able to dispatch Matt Thomas with 30 minutes of my initial call for service. Matt arrived and went right to work. He initially provided me an estimate. However as he was able to get deeper into trouble shooting the problem he presented a final price to me for my approval prior to proceeding with any work. It was impressive that he provided multiple repair options at different prices before the work commenced. This gave me a great comfort level knowing what I was to encounter before it occurred. After completing the electrical repairs Matt also inspected my furnace and water heater primarily to enter them into Plumbline's record for the quarterly maintenance that I purchased. My next door neighbor was present for much of the critical electrical work that was done, and he confirmed Matt's assessment that I could have lost my home to fire considering the seriousness of this problem. Matt also provided me with useful information such as advising me that I had reduced the risk of fire when I converted from incandescent bulbs to florescent tubes. Overall I am very grateful for the timely service, as who could know when the fire could have started.
Description of Work: Electrical problems were occurring in my kitchen ceiling which prevented the light fixtures from operating properly. Wires in my ceiling had actual burnt and I was at high risk of a ceiling fire. Rewiring was accomplished in my ceiling and the two light fixtures were installed with everything working correctly.

Plumber was on time, and that's the 1 nice thing I can say. We have 2 bathroom sinks that require new P traps, and 1 requires a new pop-up assembly. The P traps are a $5/each PVC item. The pop up assembly is $30-50 at Lowes. The plumber then worked up quotes of $850-$1140 (for what is a 90 minute job for an expert), but "graciously" agreed to discount these to either $710 or $860 depending on options. The quotes were labeled as "investment" to so I would not think of them as a cost. I've already called another plumber and gotten a quote for $225 (which assumes $110/hour for labor, 90 minutes labor, and $60 in parts). I guess this is why Plumbline needs to run so many radio ads- because there will be no word of mouth referral for these insane quotes.

Last summer was our fist summer in our 101-year-old house and we'd had some breakers moved around to fix the air conditioner that wouldn't turn on (discovering an old electric panel-turned-junction-box hidden in a wall in the process) and when winter came and our baseboard heater in the basement wouldn't turn on, we thought it could be related. Half of winter went by with us procrastinating and watching tv bundled up in the cold. Meanwhile, I'd gotten into some DIY limbo with some light switches (replacing flip switches with reproduction push button switches and half of them didn't turn the lights on) and a chandelier ( the closest I got to installing it myself was looking at the mess of wiring in the box in the ceiling). It was time to make the call and just get it all taken care of. We' had a great experience in the summer with the AC issue, so for the heater we made sure to get the same technician as before. Even though I gave him a laundry list, he was efficient and answered all my questions, and made recommendations that will make me feel more confident in my DIY endeavors in the future (it turns out half of my new switches were bad and my wiring was fine!) I know there are technicians out there who get annoyed by homeowners keeping a close eye, but when it is my home being worked on, I really appreciate it when someone includes me in the process and helps me understand.

We had Pete J. perform a rotor rooter in October of 2012. He was both friendly and professional. He was able to identify the problem right away (ex: tree branches blocking the main line). He went over our options with us, without trying to pressure us into buying anything. We decided to move forward with his services. He cleared the line and cleaned up after himself. The entire experience was very smooth and straight forward. This is actually the 2nd time that we have had Plumbline complete a rotor rooter. Both experiences were very positive. I would highly recommend their business.

My furnace was blowing cold air; the gas would not come on and heat up. Their tech came out, and found the heat limiter/sensor had failed; all he had to do to temporarily get it going was to just tap it with his screwdriver to get it working again. After that the furnace fires up. He then tests the CO (carbon monoxide) level, and finds it at 2% ppm. I'm then given warnings and stories about the dangers of high CO, and how my furnace heat exchanger is potentially leaking CO. I asked, what is the standard acceptable level? what is the acceptable level with a house that has a gas stove and gas oven and gas fireplace (that I have) with them running? He didn't know, but told me how this is a definite concern, and how I needed an estimate for a new furnace. I also had a problem with my heat vent blower motor; this is the blower motor that blows the hot gasses up the flue. The motor was slightly noisy and vibrated. I asked for a price on that, being told it was over $700.00. Then he corrected himself, and said "no, it's $709.00 actually". I asked for only the heat sensor to be replaced; it would have to be ordered. He agreed to order that when the supplier was open. I also agreed to have a salesman come by to estimate my furnace replacement. The next day, I looked up in Google, "what is acceptable levels of carbon monoxide in a house"? In a house with NO gas stove, the levels are .5% PPM to 5% PPM. In a house with a gas stove/fireplace, acceptable levels are 5 to 15% PPM. I was only at 2% PPM in my house. That's with the gas stove and gas fireplace running full tilt. And yet, I was warned how I needed a new gas furnace due to the high levels of CO in my house. Once I learned that, I cancelled the salesmans call for the furnace-replacing estimate. I also Googled the price of the flue blower motor; their price? $709.00. Internet prices? I Googled the part number and came up with 4 prices from $86 to $135.000. I talked to the Tech this morning about the temperature sensor I needed: the price on the Internet for the sensor? $35.00. Their price? $250+. I then ordered the sensor from the 'Net, and told the tech just let me know the charges, and I'll pay the bill with no more visits. Overall, I was impressed with how they attempted to give me a scare-story with no explanation as to what normal CO levels are; even their manager could not tell me how does 2% PPM average into normal house levels? Their pricing is exceedingly over-priced. I can see some markup but these markup percentages are way beyond reasonable. Their using a CO tester to test levels of CO in my house is commendable, but yet they were unable to substantiate how 2% PPM of CO factors into what acceptable levels are in houses today. Their pricing is potentially over-inflated.
Description of Work: The tech diagnosed why the furnace would blow cold air only; the ignitor would not light up and no gas would flow. The tech tapped the thermal limiter/sensor and got the furnace to fire up. The ignitor lit up, the gas flowed, and the furnace then lit up as it should. He also performed a CO level test, and warned me about the dangers of high CO (carbon monoxide)

The HVAC tech (Chris P.) came to certify the furnace. At that time he found a crack in the heat exchange and a high level of carbon monoxide escaping the furnace. He explained the problem and then told us we would have to buy a new furnace to fix the issue. We had smelled gas and the dispatched at Plumbline said to turn off the gas until the tech arrived. Dominick arrived and went directly to work to isolate and fix the leaks. He turned the gas back on, but the furnace did not start. He looked at the thermostat and said that we needed an HVAC tech. He called the dispatcher at Plumblime and they arranged for an HVAC tech to come although it was almost 9PM. While he waited for the other tech he checked the water heater and other gas line for leaks. We would ask for Dominick again if we had plumbing or gas line problems. Very professional and polite.

It went great. Chris didn't arrive till after 9PM because he was out on another call. It was a very cold day (14 deg) so the house was getting cold. He put booties on to protect our wood floor and immediately got to work. He had diagnosed the problems quilckly but it took a while to fix them. By the time the repairs were complete and furnace functioning normally, it was close to midnight, but Chris P never showed impatience to leave or reluctance to be there.
Description of Work: We were having problem with our furnace. It was not running after a home inspector had inspected our house that day. Chris P got to work and found 2 problems which interferred with th ignition of the furnace. He fixed both and our house was warm before we went to bed. Although it was an after hours call, Chris P was professional and thorough. He did not show any impatience at the lateness of the hour and was unfailingly polite. We requested him to do a general furnace maintenance later the same week.
