Excellent. I received 5 quotes for this job, including two options from Save Home Heat (plus two other contractors who came around, saw the job and promised me quotes but they never arrived). These guys were in the middle of the pack price-wise, and were equal-top in reputation (BBB & Angie's List). However they were clearly superior in knowledge and professionalism. The whole experience was a pleasure, from first contact with Bill Arata, through scoping the job, discussing options, receiving quotes, installation and working out a minor post-install issue. Bill was personable yet thoroughly professional. The installation team was punctual, very professional, hard working, courteous and respectful of our home. They also encountered and overcame various unexpected obstacles without complaining nor additional charge. They won my respect. BTW, I have referred them to 2 other friends, one of whom also selected them from a list of quotes, had them do the job and were equally satisfied.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal special offer for this service it was a good experience. I had another company out earlier, but they failed to fix my problem. So, I had the technician come out from Save Home Heat Company and he fixed it. Everything was fine and he fixed it in one shot. They saved me money by adding the air conditioning booster. The guy who came out really knew his stuff and made a difference.

Given that I was making this service call in the middle of summer, I knew things were going to be busy. I had no idea it would take phone calls to over 7 different companies until I got a response. These guys were responsive, courteous and finished the job on time and as expected. The reasoning behind the "B" rating on professionalism was the interpersonal experience my wife had with the technician. Nothing inappropriate, just a little awkward, enough so, where she said it felt like she was being upsold and wouldn't be interested again.

I had purchased a deal to have a yardwork done for a specitic preset price, but while I was at it I asked for the additional service of trimming the tree in the same area. The plants in my yard area were dying and the cosmetic tree (red leaves, small when they first planted it) was now well over 15 feet and sprouting to the point of growing over into my neighbors yard; on occasion they had taken to trimming it back. The transaction to purchase the deal was seamless (as always) and I promptly received and email and a call to confirm my request. Once I had explained what I wanted they came out to review and perform the first part of the work (clearing the plants and shrubs out of the yard which is a about a 10x10 space and then the 5x5 across the walk) and adjust any pricing for the tree trimming. They were quick, prodessional and cleaned the area up after themselves, I stepped out and saw only the gravel beneath with no plants popping up. They trimmed the lavendar bush and then said they do their winter preparation tree trimming in the colder months and would schedule a time for that to occur. Sure enough, 3 months later, I received a call confirming it was now time for the tree to be trimmed and they arrived and once again, trimmed, cleaned and were gone. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I had requested two pieces of work to be done; one was specific to removing shrubs and plants from my townhomes front area and the other was to trim a very unruly tree in the front as well.

This most recent work was a "repeat customer" situation for us, in our previous and new homes: In both cases of furnace and water heater replacement, we requested proposals from two local companies. Save Home Heat provided several options for each appliance, responded to our desire for energy efficient upgrades, and discussed the pros and cons of each recommendation until we were comfortable with the options. Their bids were slightly better price-wise, albeit probably still "expensive," but the care and sincerity of the frontline staff made a difference, as did their ability to generate multiple suggestions for solving our problems. They stuck with us while we hemmed and hawed about the various options and were happy to explore additional possibilities. We felt good about this process. Professional and competent. The most recent installation was somewhat complicated, which we anticipated, including both heating and plumbing and a few quirks. The Save Home Heat installation crew wanted to "fix" several oddities in our ductwork and appliance configurations, and we trusted them to make things right. They incorporated the cost of these modifications into the initially proposed price, so there were no surprises. Subsequently, the inspector who signed off on the project said it looked like they had done a good job with seals, etc. Throughout, the installers were courteous and professional, ready to explain what they were doing and why. Unfortunately, the thermostat for the system was backordered and had to be installed at a later date. The wait was not problematic, however, and the follow-up crew was in and out of the house quickly once the item did come in. At some points in the process, we got tangled in some phone loops with our initial estimator and the installation team, but I think it was better to have more people trying to respond to our needs than too few. Likewise, in both this installation and our previous one, we had glitches that needed to be addressed after the fact. In the first installation, we had a gas leak in a water heater. Save Home had a technician out shortly after I called; he found an intermittent leak in the appliance itself, not the result of installation and completely covered through factory warranty. In the second installation, we ended up with water on the floor beneath the humidifier. While it did take a day to get a tech to the house (it was not an emergency, as we had just turned off the water to the unit), the tech was persistent in locating some problematic wiring issues and ensuring that the system was working appropriately. He then walked me through related thermostat-setting issues (very fancy, digital thermostat) until we both felt like the system was in good order and I was capable and confident. All in all, we've had very good experiences with Save Home Heat, both process and people, and would certainly use them yet once again for standard service or appliance replacement.
Description of Work: In our new home, Save Home Heat installed a new high efficiency furnace with humidifier and EnergyStar water heater with recirculation pump to replace appliances reaching the end of their predicted lifespans. Several years ago, we had similar work done by Save Home Heat in our prior home--high efficiency furnace and water heater replacement.

Our water heater was leaking from the pressure overflow pipe minimally each day. On Monday, it started gushing water. We called Save Home and they said they could come that afternoon or sooner if they could and they would call. They did call to say they could come earlier and were there only 2 hours after our initial call. There was no charge for emergency service. Steve came by and was very friendly. He listened patiently to our concerns which included the pressure valve, not having a shut off valve for the water supply to the water heater and a blocked basement drain by the water heater. He tested the pressure and found that the problem was the pressure valve in the pipes coming into the house and saw that we did not have the necessary expansion tank. He installed all 3 items in a little over an hour and had all the materials he needed in the truck. Payment by CC was simple. I was very impressed with the friendliness, timeliness and quality of the work.
Description of Work: Replaced pressure valve, added water shut off valve and added an expansion tank to the cold water line. Took photos for an estimate to fix the basement drain.

Serviceman arrived on time, and seemed to work steadily and efficiently. He was friendly and courteous, and left the work in a clean and neat condition. The cost was driven up quite a bit over the standard service call, though, when he strongly recommended that the flame rod assembly be replaced due to its age (>12 yr.). This includes the igniter for the gas burners. It's a pricy component. I retained the old unit, which still works, in case the igniter ever fails on some sub-zero weekend night.
Description of Work: Called for gas forced-air furnace inspection/adjustment. Furnace hadn't been serviced in approx. 5 years. They performed the standard checks: cleaned and adjusted the burners, checked the heat exchanger, checked for CO, cleaned the attached humidifier, checked all electric functions (blower motor, etc.).

They came out and fixed the leak and left. After they left I still could hear the water running somewhere so called and they came back. After checking some things they figured out that it was something else and it had to do with the water pressure coming into our house. They replaced the piece that controlled that and it went well. They did not have some of the parts that were needed and I felt like we were charged for some time that maybe we didn't need to be charged for, but overall they did a great job. Our water bill is now less than half what it was and am happy that they really tried to figure out what was going on. Have used them before this for AC and will use again as things come up.

Staff arrived on time, and performed an efficient but thorough check of our furnace. They gave us the reassurance we needed that our old furnace was working properly, even though they knew this might delay our purchase of a new furnace (likely from them.) After the check, they stayed for approximately 15 minutes discussing the findings, and answering other questions about carbon monoxide safety in the home. We were very impressed with their knowledge and responsiveness.
Description of Work: Save Home Heat performed a check of our furnace, which is almost 20 years old. We wanted to be sure it wasn't leaking carbon monoxide, in particular, as I was due to have my first child any day! The staff were courteous, knowledgeable, and more than happy to answer questions. We were incredibly happy with the service, and plan to purchase a new furnace from them when we are ready.

Overall this installation has been a very positive experience. I am very happy with my decision to use Save Home Heat as my selected contractor. They were not the least expensive proposal. However, they were very professional in that they did what they said they were going to do. They never missed an appointment. They installed the unit exactly as they explained when I contracted with them. As I expected might happen, there were some problems with this advanced system after the installation. We woke up on a Sunday morning to no heat and 10 degree temperatures outside. I was not happy. Save Home Heat had a technician at our home in less than 2 hours. By 10 am Sunday morning there were 2 people working on my new boiler. One of them was Tim, the person who supervised the whole installation. I'm not happy about the problem but I sure cannot complain about the fast response. They got the unit working correctly and scheduled a follow up check with me. When I read reviews like this I always look for the all positive review - with absolutely no negatives shown. That makes me a little suspicious of the whole review. To address this I will bring up a couple of items that could have been better - but please note these are pretty picky. First, the paperwork follow up seemed a little weak. I had to be sure and submit the factory warrantee card to the manufacturer to activate the warrantee. I was also the one to research the rebate from our energy company and get going on a $100 rebate from them. The installation was good except for one "valve" that was installed backwards and caused an occasional loud banging for 2 weeks after the installation. I kept complaining about this banging until it was finally tracked down and fixed. Very quiet now! Today, 2 months after installation, I am a very satisfied Save Home Heat customer. This was an expensive project that was installed correctly and completely supported after the fact. I think my choice of this company over the other 3 possibilities was a very good one and I certainly would do it again.
Description of Work: I have been planning to replace my 1990 boiler and water heater for about a year. I interviewed and got proposals from four separate heating/cooling companies. Two of these companies were neck and neck for this large expenditure that would be a single boiler that provided heat for both the house and hot water. I decided on Save Home Heat because of communications, first. They were certainly not the cheapest proposal but I believe they were the best. My research on them indicates their technicians are trained, certified, and capable. They were the most responsive of all the companies I dealt with. Their person assigned to my project was Tim. He certainly listened to my questions and answered them thoroughly. He also didn't seem to be in a hurry to do something else when we were talking. He listened and followed up with me. I ended up getting a combination boiler/water heater installed. Very advanced, 96% efficient, and I knew I needed good support as that is how it goes with these new units. To sum it up, Save Home Heat removed my old boiler and water heater - and then installed a single Triangle Tube combination boiler/water heater.

These guys are great! I would totally recommend them. Our furnace was acting up - wasn't putting out heat properly and a funny burning smell was coming out of the vents. We had already had one plumbing company out and had a poor experience, so we decided to start from scratch with a new company. I'm so glad we did. I left a voicemail for Save Home Heat over the weekend and they called first thing Monday morning and were able to get someone out by 12:30. In 10 minutes, the guy had run a few tests and told me exactly what the problem was. The blower motor had gone bad and needed to be replaced. Luckily for me, Perry had the part on his truck and was able to replace the entire thing in just over an hour. Perry was courteous, professional, and efficient. Thanks Save Home Heat for a job well done! We'll be calling you again!

The staff taking my call and scheduling service was friendly and professional. They gave an excellent first impression. The first appointment had to be rescheduled due to a truck breakdown. The second appointment was just a few days later. The serviceman arrived on time. He was serious and business-like – not rude, but not friendly. He arrived precisely on time. He did not wipe his shoes nor put on the paper covers for his shoes, but merely walked through the house to our furnace room. He began servicing our two furnaces. I offered him a beverage which he declined. I offered any assistance he might need which he also declined. I left him for 20 or 30 minutes; and, upon returning, asked how things were going. He told me I wasn’t going to like it, but it looked as though I needed a new heat exchanger in the one furnace. [Our two 90% efficient furnaces are less than four years old.] He explained about rusting heat exchangers, etc. I returned about 20 minutes later to find him sitting on the floor in a swirl of dust, dusting off our electronic filters with a paint brush. Dust was floating throughout the room, which was literally spotless when he arrived. [This is a large room, with laundry tubs, storage cabinets, a secondary refrigerator, etc. So it is kept clean.] I told him that I would get him a vacuum, to which he responded it was not necessary. Why in heaven’s name would someone want to sit and breathe in all that dust was beyond me, to say nothing of the fact that he was undoing the good the filters had done in taking the dust out of the air in the first place. He should have either washed those filters in our laundry tubs or taken them outside and used a garden hose, but not use a paint brush to redistribute the dust in our home. At a minimum he should have used a vacuum with a soft brush attached, which is precisely what I went and got for him ASAP. In the meantime, the serviceman walked through my home twice with the same un-wiped shoes he had worn in the now dirt covered furnace room floor. When he finished, we discussed his findings. He stated the carbon monoxide output from both furnaces exceeded safety standards, with the one furnace being especially bad. This was due to the heat exchangers in each furnace rusting out, one quite badly and the other showing signs of starting to rust. The estimated labor charge would be roughly $1500 per furnace to replace the heat exchangers, and that they would likely be covered under warranty. He said he would check on the warranty issue and get back to me. In light of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, I waited a full month for Save Home Heating to get back to me. When they had not followed up after a month, I decided to call and complain about the service call and failure to follow up. I asked for the owner. I explained the situation to the owner, who knew precisely who the serviceman was by my description without my giving him a name. He said that the serviceman should have work shoe covers and should not have cleaned the filters the way he did. He said that he would have someone come out to my home and review the service. I received a call from the Service Manager within a day. He claimed that he thought he had called me, but could not find his record of the call. After some discussion, he concluded he must have left a phone message at the wrong phone number. [This is the short version.] He scheduled to have their top technician come out to inspect the work. The top technician came out, inspected the work, adjusted the gas-air mix, retook the carbon monoxide reading, and now found in well within normal range. He also replaced the control switch for the humidifier, which had continued to run even after the furnace shut off. This was presumably the source of the rust on the heat exchanger. He told me that we did not need new heat exchangers, but probably lost five years of life on the heat exchangers. He wore shoes covers. I received a $180 bill for the new control switch about a week later; we paid the bill. There was no further follow up by the “owner” to discuss the new outcome resulting from the senior rep having come out. If the senior service tech had come out the first time, we would likely have been quite satisfied with the service and would likely have used them again. BUT, given the totality of our experience, I will neither use them again nor can I recommend this company. Others customers may have had excellent experiences with them, and I would not doubt that. We, however, had a very bad experience.
Description of Work: I hired Save Home Heat Co. to conduct an annual furnace inspection and servicing.

We are disappointed that we did not fully satisfy this customer. Arguably, we were not as effective as we could have been on our first visit to his home. This customer is definitely detail oriented, and gave a full account of events, including whether or not our technician accepted his offer of a beverage. It is worth noting that we resolved the customer's concerns fully and to his satisfaction at our follow-up visit.

Larry came to the house and began the inspection. He immediately discovered some significant issues with my furnace. When purchasing the Big Deal I thought there might be problems because of how the system was cycling on, noises I was hearing and the fact that the thermostat indicated a certain temperature in the house yet stand-alone thermometers did not register the same temp. In the end we discovered that the blower assembly was encrusted with dirt and was overheating, causing the system to short cycle on and off. I had discovered when I moved in that a prior occupant had never changed the filters and had noticed disintegrated filter material in the filter channel. Larry also discovered a deteriorated hose and a tube that was poorly connected, causing a very slight gas leak. In the inspection he noted that the hot water heater flue was incorrectly installed as well. Several other items were also identified for me, including testing my thermostat which is not operating properly. All of this is to illustrate how thorough this inspection was. Larry cleaned up the blower as best he could though it cannot remain as is and will need to be replaced. Larry was here far longer than I imagine he thought he would be. He was very professional and spent all the time that was needed to show me the issues and explain them to me - what might have caused them, what the consequence would be of not fixing each of them and what my alternatives and options were. Larry was very courteous and patient. I have now arranged for repairs to be made and have decided to purchase an annual maintenance contract for Save Home Heat.
Description of Work: A friend of mine had used Save Home Heat and was pleased with how they went out of their way to fix his aged furnace. I needed to have my furnace inspected and went online with Angie's list and found that Save home had a coupon deal going on and purchased that.

They were recommended by a neighbor. They had a guy out about 36 hours after I called during a cold snap. We have a complicated high-efficiency boiler. We've had problems with it last winter and this during cold snaps. Technician came out and pulled apart system and showed me some corrosion in the system from exhaust condensation. He explained problem could come from a couple of issues. One was the installation of exhaust fan was not to mfr specifications. He claimed that specs required exhaust to be 50 feet or less. He estimated it was more when you calculate the number of bends in piping, "each right angle piece counts at 5 feet of piping". He recommended 1. Redo exhaust and intake piping 2. Replace fan motor and other parts without looking at the motor 3. Redo copper piping from boiler to hot water tank because it didn't follow recommended best practice (but still worked) I was called next day by his manager who wanted to schedule the work. $4000!. Yep, crazy. I told the manager that I looked up mfr specifications on exhaust piping in installation manual. They stated that piping was okay up to 85 feet (not 50' like tech told me). Manager then told me that they had worked on hundreds of my type of boiler and that you had to calculate in all the pipe bends. "The right-angle pieces equaled 10' of pipe and a 45 degree angle equaled 5'". This was different from what his tech told me day before (90-degree piece equals 5'). The manufacturers installation manual stated to count a right-angle as 5' and a 45-degree angle as 3 feet. I couldn't listen to anything else he had to say after these comments. I wouldn't recommend them and would recommend getting a second opinion if you use them.

Save Home Heat responded to a service call for no heat quickly and professionally. They were the only company who was able to send someone out the day of the call. They were able to get the furnace up and running temporarily but for safety reasons recommended that the 35 year old furnace be placed. After estimates and references, the new furnace was installed. All employees of the company were pleasant, professional, polite and easy to work with. There were no surprises and I would highly recommend them.

Save Home installed the furnace quickly and within the price quoted. We were hoping to get a slightly smaller furnace based on the size of our home but the one they wanted was not available. There was a rebate available to us and they filed the paperwork on our behalf and we received a check in the mail within a few weeks. They use only Lennox equipment which was not my first choice, but I wasn't willing to shop around. Due to a time constraint, they were not, at first, able to install a new thermostat. But when I called and requested they return to install the thermostat, they were here within two days. Everyone was professional and friendly.
Description of Work: The Service was very professional.

Overall, I was very pleased with their responsiveness and professionalism, and very happy to get our heat back! I will very likely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We woke up Christmas morning to no heat in the house. I felt bad having to call someone in on Christmas day, but Save Home Heat was very quick to respond. It turns out the pressure switch was tripped, likely caused by running the whole house fan the day before without having a window open. While diagnosing the issue, the technician also noticed that the flue vent was not installed correctly, and he fixed that as well.
