Save Home Heat Company assessed our AC and told us that it would cost us more to repair it than it was going to cost to fix it. While he was diagnosing it he fixed it and I was very impressed with the honesty of these people. They will be my AC people from now on.
Description of Work: They did a diagnostic test and tune-up of our AC and also furnished new filters.

Great experience. I may be short $500 bucks but it was worth it. I called and left a message late Sunday night about my boiler "banging". Duane called back at 8 am Monday and left me a message. We connected by 9 am. Very professional. Zack showed up at 2 pm that day as I was told he would. He called first to make sure I was home and the directions were right. This serviceman was very professional and did not fool around. After a short introduction, he went immediately to the boiler and started to examine it. Found several things wrong with it and told me I was lucky it was working at all. Okay, so I never had it serviced in 5 years - lesson learned. Zack had all the parts in his service van and had this fixed in an hour or so. The thing works great now. I have used other companies for heating but they were not nearly as "on it" as this place. I will most definitely use this company again when I replace the whole heating system. Great work!

Our furnace failed right as we were about to leave town. We were uncertain about whether to repair it or replace it as it was installed new in our home only 12 years ago. Becuase we were leaving town and temperatures were below freezing, we had to make a decision quickly and find a service provider who could respond immediately. Save Home Heat did not try to sell us a new furnace but provided the information for us to make an informed decisionl. When we decided to purchase a new high efficiency furnace, they reworked their schedule to accomodate our need for immediate installation. We have been extremely happy with both the product and the service so far.

It was very simple and went smoothly. The main guy came and gave me a bid, it was maybe $1700 less than the one other company I called, but he also said I could go with the next smaller unit (he's been right the house has been plenty warm even on very cold days) so I saved $1700 but the furnace to furnace price was still maybe $800 cheaper. The came, showed up on time, were nice, professional and competent. Did the work quickly with a minimum of fuss around the house, cleaned up their stuff and were gone. Did a good job with the paperwork for the energy credit s and explaining hte warranties, and they were gone. I got a follow up call, and they have scheduled me for a 1 year service call for next year. I didn't have a single complaint or concern with anything. We have had some very cold days already this year, and the thing works fine.

From the first meeting with Sarah who came out to give me an estimate to the finished product I couldn't be happier. Sarah was professional, knowledgable and spent the time to figure what I needed before she started showing me products. There was absolutely no pressure to "buy up" and in fact she told me the most expensive air conditioner was not a good fit for my needs. She clearly explained the rebates and discounts and while I was working on refinancing my home she came across some more rebate options and helped pick the best one. She emailed me an estimate with several options which is more than a couple of the other companies did. The installers were professional hard working and tolerant of my dog going into the cell and supervising their work. They took the time to explain all of the details of each of my units. The office staff filled out the rebate paperwork and all I had to do was sign it and put it in the mail. Every person I dealt with was friendly and knowledgable.

Update: Tim from Save Home heat called me back recently, and we set up a new appointment. He showed up on time, was very patient (there were issues getting into the house, which has occupants). He made some good points about the install and generally left me happy with the likelihood of his completing the job in a competent and professional manner. Original post, from 05/02/2011: Had an appointment with Save Home Heat this morning, which I made the previous week. The representative (Tom, I believe) gave me a call half an hour after he was supposed to show up to say he would be late. By that time it was too late; I had left for work when he was 15 minutes past due. Talked to him again on the phone later in the morning, and he said he would call back to set up a new appointment. I'm still waiting...

Save Home Heat was our third contact for getting a quote on a new furnace. They were the most affordable, professional, helpful, and customer-service oriented company, which is why we chose to work with them. Their quote was $1000 less then a competitor's price (same product). They offered us space heaters (not needed, but the offer was appreciated), and unparalleled customer service. They were the only company (out of the 3 we contacted) to offer to see if the heating transfer element was under warranty (it was--but we decided to go with a new furnace since it was an old one). I felt we had an honest and through assessment of our furnace situation, and their response time, availability, and efficiency were commendable. The service technicians were professional and kind, and very focused on their work--they finished hours ahead of schedule. I would highly recommend this company based on price, professionalism, customer service, efficiency and integrity.

Called the company for an estimate for installing a whole house humidifier, no one was available to discuss so left a message. Over the next few days it was impossible to get anyone on the phone to discuss. Finally after managing to get someone on the phone, explained that it was not your typical installation and so they sent someone out to take a look and provide the estimate. Technician who came out was on time and nice enough. Said he would have to do some more research back at the office before providing an estimate. That was the last I heard from them. I guess they really don't want business. I have never dealt with a contractor like this before. I can't say if their actual work is any good, from the sounds of the rest of the reviews it is, but they have some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced and that to me is enough to make me recommend staying far away from them.

Response from Save Home Heat Company
We only recently noticed this posting from many years back, and are currently doing a much more comprehensive job of spotting online reviews of our company. It is not our practice (as evidenced by the highly positive reviews at this site) to provide poor customer service, and if that was indeed the case here, we sincerely apologize. We can only surmise that there may have been something about this not being a 'typical installation' that created a disconnect between us and the customer. Again, we offer our apologies for our lack of responsiveness.

He was on time and explained everything to me. He did some minor things to make the stuff work better as well as fixed the problem. He replaced the key to the electronic ignition on the heater. I also signed up for an annual inspection from next year because I really like them. I spent $214 on the job and this price includes next year?s inspection. So far the quality has been good.

This review compares Climate Masters, Precision Plumbing, and Save Home Heat. My furnace was 22 years old and working fine. My annual heating bill was about $250, as my house is insulated and I keep the thermostat low. Going from a perhaps 70% efficient furnace to 95% efficiency would save about $80/year, hardly worth spending thousands of dollars. Supposedly these furnaces last 15-20 years, but an informal survey of my neighbors found that everyone has or had a furnace last more than 40 years. On the other hand, the 30% federal tax break was ending on December 31; and Murphy's Law says that my furnace would die on a Friday evening of the coldest weekend of the year. My first bit of advice: before your furnace dies at least choose an installer and a furnace, so that when your furnace breaks you know who to call and what to order. Don't get pressured into making a quick decision. Interviewing companies and choosing a furnace takes a couple weeks; you don't want to do this with a broken furnace in the middle of January. Looking thru Angie's List I saw there are only three furnace contractors serving Boulder: Save Home Heat, Climate Masters, and Precision Plumbing. I had all three come out and give me quotes. Dan Lewis from Climate Masters was the first I crossed off the list. He didn't look at the furnace or ask about square footage or insulation. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as we have a 1960s tract house identical to hundreds in the neighborhood; if he's installed furnaces in similar houses then maybe he doesn't need to do an inspection. He gave me quotes for Lennox's three most expensive furnaces, one of which is 80% efficiency despite my saying that I wanted a high efficiency (95% or better) furnace to get the 30% tax break, and he didn't give me a quote on Lennox's cheapest high-efficiency furnace, which is what I ended up buying. But the reason I'm giving him a failing grade is that he told me that the Lennox SLP98V, the top-of the-line ($6626) 98% efficiency furnace would use half the fuel of the 95% efficient G61V. He said that the SLP98V is a variable fuel model so most of the time it runs at 30,000 BTU, using less than half the fuel of a 70,000 BTU furnace. I pointed out two fallacies here: first, the cheaper furnaces are two-stage, i.e., they run at 43,000 BTUs most of the time, then switch to 70,000 BTUs in very cold weather; and second, a 30,000 BTU furnace running 7 hours per day will use the same amount of fuel as a 70,000 BTU furnace running 3 hours per day. He insisted that the expensive furnace would use far less fuel. In reality, a 98% efficiency furnace would save about $1.50 a year in fuel and cost $1100 more than the 95% efficiency furnace. Dave Choka from Precision Plumbing looked at my furnace and asked about the insulation, etc. But he gets a failing grade because he told me that a 95% efficiency variable blower furnace is more efficient than a 95% efficiency furnace with a single-speed blower. When I questioned this, he said that the two furnaces would use the same amount of fuel, but the variable speed blower uses one-tenth of the electricity because it can run at 60 watts, when the single-speed blower runs at 600 watts. I pointed out the fallacy here, that a 60-watt blower running for ten hours will use the same amount of electricity as a 600-watt blower running for one hour. The same amount of air has to be moved through the ducts. He insisted that the variable speed blower would use less electricity. Then he told me that the Honeywell HE365 humidifier they install is better than the HE265 humidifier that Save Home Heat installs. He couldn't explain why the HE365 is better. It took me 10 minutes on the Internet to find the difference: the HE265 is a passive humidifier, i.e., it uses the furnace's blower to move air over the humidifier's pads; when the HE365 has an electric fan to blow the hot air over the pads. The HE265 uses no electricity, when the HE365 uses electricity. I felt that he was hiding from me that what he wanted to sell me would use more electricity than what Save Home Heat wanted to install. His prices were the highest -- $100 over Climate Masters and $1000 over Save Home Heat. He included a ten-year extended warranty, which I wasn't certain I wanted. Lastly, he tried to pressure me into signing a contract on the spot, without giving me time to think about it or discuss it with my wife. Sarah Gillis from Save Home Heat inspected the furnace and the insulation, etc. She didn't lie or pressure me to buy a more expensive model. The furnace includes a two-year warranty; she said that we could wait two years and then decide if we want to extend the warranty. I decided to get the Lennox G61, which is the bottom of the line 95% efficiency furnace. The only advantage of the more expensive variable speed and/or variable fuel models is that the expensive models are quieter. This isn't worth $700-1100 to me. I decided to use the difference in price to add a humidifier ($485) and an air filter ($450). I get headaches when our furnace is on, maybe the air filter will help. The furnace totaled $5700 (with thermostat, air filter, and humidifier). I'll get a $1500 federal tax credit, $500 from Recharge Colorado, $120 from Xcel, $100 off as an Angie's List member, and a 3% discount for paying by check. My out-of-pocket will be $3309. This was worth it to get a more comfortable house (cleaner, more humid air), to not worry about the furnace breaking down, and to save $80 a year.

Their service was good. They were in and out exactly as they said they would. I compared them with several others and I felt like the product they provided as well as their service was terrific. They have been out a couple of times just on their own. They called and came out to check on it to make sure everything was running well and it was and they didn't charge for that. It was good. They didn't charge for the services that they provided. I can't remember how much they charged for the installation, but I thought they were very reasonable. It went very well, a few parts came from the manufacturer broken and Save Home Heat spent the extra time to get the parts and make sure everything was was working well. They were the most expensive of the contractors we had bid on the job, but they were by far the most knowledgeable about the parts themselves and their installers were fantastic. I would most definitely use them again.
Description of Work: First they performed the load-calc to determine which units would work the best while being the most energy efficient. Then they put together a bid detailing which units would go where, and why they chose certain units over others. They answered all of our questions, and nailed down a time line for installation. They plumbed the new coolant lines and handled the electrical work as well.

A/C unit on a commercial property was generating a burning smell when turned on in one of the units. I spoke with repairs and felt lucky that they were able to squeeze me in that day. Over the phone they thought it might be a burnt out motor which mignt need to be replaced. Turned out that the filter was clogged and should have been changed a long time ago. They also found that the filter in another unit was the wrong size so they replaced it. Finally they ran tests to determine that the units were functioning properly. I recently purchased the property and was pleased with their service.
Description of Work: They came out and determined that the problem was a dirty filter. They replaced the clogged/dirty filter as well as another filter that was the wrong size. Ran tests to determine that the system was operating OK despite it being very old.

It went fine. I'm more perturbed by the fact that the actual cost for servicing the AC unit was 20% more than the estimated cost. Made me wonder how many times I could use the Angie's discount coupon. The service technician, Perry, told me upfront that he charged by the hour. This approach is a double-edged sword, although I think it favored the company in this case. I must say that they installed the unit 11 years ago, and I'm not disappointed with the customer service. Dwayne called repeated to follow-up on getting the service scheduled. I don't like the selling of service contracts, which has been offered both times (not pushed, but discussed). I'm going to shop around more before I hire SHH again.

We didn't use them because they were so high. We needed them to come out on a weekend and just to appear on a Sunday they would charge a lot of money. We have used them before for our AC and they did a good job. For our particular unit they are one of the few people that sell it. It works great and we've had it serviced two or three times since we've had it. My big complaint is how much they charge to come out when it isn't a regular work day. For the AC, they did a fine job and I plan to continue using them.
