Very well. I live in Ohio and was purchasing a condo in Colorado. I found Scott Home Inspection on Angie's list and called. The office personnel were very personable and very helpfull in getting the information I needed. Everything was coordinated perfectly between me , my daughter, who lives in Ft. Collins, my real estate agent, and Scotts. The inspection went through without a hitch. I would definately recommend them.

Alan was very detailed and methodic in his inspection of my entire home - inside and out. He took pictures of items of note and explained what he was doing and why. Within just a few hours of the inspection, I had a complete report by email detailing and explaining all of Alan's findings. The pictures were included in the report and were great in helping me understand what was being talked about. All of the findings were ranked in terms of the level of attention needed (ex. if what Alan was describing was simply for informational purposes or if there was a need for follow-up). Tips were also included in the inspection report about how frequently to service various fixtures in the home and what to expect as part of normal wear and tear on the home.
Description of Work: I made an appointment to have my newly built home inspected before its one-year warranty expired. Ann worked to get me on the schedule quickly, and was very accommodating when the time of the inspection had to be changed. Alan, the inspector, arrived on-time (even a bit early!) to the appointment and performed a thorough inspection of my home. I very highly recommend Scott Home Inspection, LLC!

I had reviewed this company recently based on a fantastic experience. A second call was less then desirable. I like the online scheduling, but I requested a specific inspector, based on a positive experience, and another inspector showed up for this particular inspection. I think this inspector was new to the trade, as the report that I received was less then expected. The inspector did not climb onto the roof because "it was too tall". I called a roofer and was told that this roof - in fact - was accessible with a normal ladder. My inspector must have failed to bring the correct ladder. The roof seems to be an important part of the inspection. The sewer scope inspector refused to climb into a crawl space with his equipment. He demanded that the home owner - who was not present at the inspection - cut the caulking around a toilet, so the sewer scope could occur through the toilet. The home owner became less then cooperative and refused to cut the caulk. I hired a different sewer scope company who easily climbed into the crawl space and performed the scope without cutting the toilet caulk. The process became such a headache, I will never call this company again. I think that the company has become so large, they hire whoever and it's a coin toss whether or not you will get good service. I thought I had found my inspector, but I have not.

Response from Scott Home Inspection LLC
We shared the concerns expressed by this member, and at the time of the inspection, did everything we could to resolve things. The roof was a flat roof which did require a ladder taller than what our inspectors carry with them. This has only happened to us a few times in all our years of inspecting. Since then, we have purchased ladders for each of our inspectors that will go even higher, to avoid this concern. Regarding the sewer scope, the crawlspace was a very limited access area and the technician made a judgement call that he and all his gear would not fit, along with the access range needed to perform the scope. We therefore recommended accessing through a toilet, but are very cautious about pulling a toilet when it is caulked to the floor, so that we don't risk damaging a seller's house. We refunded the fee paid for the sewer scope, and did all that we could to make amends with the client. We are always disappointed when we hear and read of concerns with our services. I'm sorry we didn't perform to this clients satisfaction. George Scott - owner

There were two inspectors and I followed along with the lead person who was very thorough. I also tagged along with a third person doing each sewer scoping. All reports were very thorough, except upon reading the reports, I noticed that the 2nd inspector did not thoroughly examine the crawl space under two buildings. I had concerns as some inspection issues were found under the other 3 buildings and notified Scott Inspections about my concern. The owner quickly came up with a solutions and when the radon tests were picked up the crawl spaces of the other 2 buildings were thoroughly inspected by the lead person. Overall, very professional in scheduling, promptness, and thoroughness with the minor hiccup outlined above.

I walked around with the inspector and for the most part was not overwhelmed by his inspection or responsiveness to questions. In fact he said something like: "I'll answer questions but not really say anything else as I go along." He failed to check all of the outlets, if he had he would have noted that the switched outlet in the living room sparks. He failed to note that there was a grading issue on the side of the yard next to a basement window well - if he had we could have re-graded and prevented the flood we had a week and a half after moving in. He also failed to note that the master shower drain was physically plugged with an Oatey mechanical plug. Had this been noted we could have asked the homeowner to open it - and having done so we would have discovered that the shower has no trap and needs to have a plumber come, cut a hole in the basement ceiling and fix it. Not cheap. All of these things should have been caught. They also failed to use a Infra-Red camera to look for insulation issues. We had an energy audit from the City of Loveland in which they used one, there are issues with insulation in the sun room as well that should have been caught on the original inspection. To top things off when I called their office on July 1st. in response to a follow up email I was assured that they would contact me. I am still waiting. July 3 - The owner called to let me know he had been out of town (which the office did not mention) and was very concerned and we agreed to discuss the matter after the holiday. More to come later... The owner did call, was very pleasant and sorry about the missed items. As their policy limits them to compensation equal to what you spend on the inspection that is all they will shell out. So if you have significant damages from something they missed they will not pay for that. He did refund the entire amount of the inspection.

This was my first time using Scott Inspection, although I have used 3 or 4 other companies in the past. I chose Scott Inspections for this particular investment home purchase because of the range of services offered. I have had Fort Collins area sewer scope companies fail to show, which is beyond frustrating. I've also had these same sewer scope companies upcharge once on site and actually cause damage to toilets. Scott Inspection arrived promptly and provided as thorough an inspection as I have ever received. The sewer scope was problematic, as they tend to be in older homes, but the inspector solved the issue, scoped the sewer and did NOT upcharge. I highly recommend this company.

Nothing out of the ordinary was found to be wrong with the home, so the inspection was what we expected, a few minor items. Scott Home Inspection even noted in our report some details that might become an issue in the future, so we appreciated that for our records.

I used Scott Home Inspection for my home purchase. They we highly professional and detailed. Alan inspected all parts of the home and explained to me what he saw. There were several inspections that could not be performed one day and they came out the next day and followed up with a report. I was extremely impressed with the detailed reporting that was provided after the inspection. It was easy to understand what was being reviewed and what needed to be followed up on. They are well worth the cost.

All three times I needed their services, the responded quickly and were punctual. Unfortunately, on the house I ended up purchasing, several plumbing problems were missed, and the verbal report of the sewer inspection at the time the work was done did not match the written report. My bad - I relied on the verbal report and did not read the written report, and as a result I had to completely replace the sewer line from the house to the street. I can't blame Scott that I didn't read the report, but if the verbal discussion of the sewer scope findings had been accurate, I would have handled the sale differently. In addition, they missed the fact that there was negative slope in the drain pipe from the kitchen and laundry area which also ended up costing me quite a lot to get fixed.

We have made contact with the member to review the concerns that she raises in this review. There was a mis-communication on the results of the sewer scope inspection. The written report correctly noted the concerns with the line. The other concerns were reviewed with her. While an inspection is not a guarantee or warranty, we truly felt bad that problems had occurred after the inspection. In a show of good-will, we completely refunded her inspection fee paid.

The energy audit went smoothly without a hitch and before he left he gave me a full bound report with pictures and detailed recommendations. Would recommend highly. The video scope also went well, except the condition of my sewer line (full of water) prevented him from seeing what he wanted to see. I was still given a report and a DVD, but was not charged a cent. Super decent on the part of the company. They also gave me suggestions for a contractor who could open the line for me.
Description of Work: George did an energy audit on our home 2 years ago. Very professional and informative, and a super nice guy. We had Daniel out last week for a video scope of our sewer. He was unable to give us a good report because his camera was under water the whole time, so the company waived the fee. Very rare in my experience; workers will usually come out, do what thery're hired to do and charge you whether or not they accomplished the goal. This company really cares about helping their customers. Highly recommended!

I looked at several home inspectors. I chose Scott because they had lots of good reviews and their website was clear and easy to navigate. I especially like that they post their prices clearly on their website. The posted fee is exactly what they charged me and they did not try to talk me into additional services, which I also appreciate. The inspector, Luke, arrived on time. He was clean-cut, professional and personable. He did a very thorough inspection of the house (he checked each and every door hinge in the house including the cabinet hinges in the kitchen...that would not have occurred to me!) A radon test was performed. He walked me around the house and pointed out all the issues and maintenance concerns. I would hire Scott again.

We hired George based on the recommendation of our realtor to conduct a home inspection, radon test, sewer inspection and energy efficiency audit. He was easy to book for the inspection and sent a confirmation reminder by email. When we met him for the day of the inspection, he immediately told us that we didn't need the energy efficiency audit as the house was made of brick. He felt that we wouldn't get our money's worth from the energy audit, so he offered to skip that charge and just give us tips throughout the inspection. He spent several hours with us walking through the house and explaining everything. We learned several things about the house that we would not have otherwise. No question was too silly for George to take the time and carefully answer. A few hours after the inspection, he sent us a detailed 47-page report with photos and detailed explanations. He was a pleasure to work with, and we'd hire him again in an instant.

I found Scott Inspection online and was impressed right away with their professional website and the ability to schedule appts online! All very high-tech which I appreciated compared to other websites I was finding. Because of a very accelerated closing schedule, they made space for me when they were already quite booked, which I appreciated immensely. Ann Scott went above and beyond to make this happen for me. I met the inspector Luke at the house and he was prompt, prepared and open to explaining anything to me if I so desired. He was extremely thorough and very informative. He knew exactly what to look for and took lots of pictures and provided commentary for me to understand what the issues were.I also chose Scott because they also provide Sewer Scoping services which made it easier than dealing with another service provider. Their technician Daniel came with his equipment and immediately got to work. After awhile he called me down to look at some things on his monitor and then explained in detail what he was seeing and what his concerns were. Before he left, he provided me with a DVD of the whole scope which he also commentated. Luke completed the inspection in a timely manner, went over everything with me and made sure I was completely satisfied before he left. I had the VERY thorough report, complete with pictures and explanations by 6pm, all available online.

The inspector still came to perform the inspection inspite of a huge snow storm. Luke Griess arrived on time and did a very thorough inspection of the foreclosure we are purchasing. He used a thermal scanner and didn't seem to miss a thing. We were very pleased with the service provided and greatly value the report generated from his inspection. The report gives the problem, how bad it is and what needs to be done to fix it. The information is amazing and extremely helpful. The price was very competitive and especially good for the value of the service we received. Thank you Scott Home Inspection! Holmes from HGTV would be proud! =)

I can start by saying, "Wow!" As to the future of the inspected home, it turned out to be a possible money pit. George detected so many concerns about the house which highly suggested structural and water drainage issues. These issues were not listed in the seller's disclosure list. George found multiple drywall cracks that had been professionally repaired. He also noticed most upstairs doors had been re-planed to adjust to the out of square door frames. George also expressed concerns that storage (boxes, ect) in the basement could be staged to hide repaired concrete flooring because of the unusual slope of the basement floor. We did move some boxes to help confirm that the concrete had indeed been patched. In brief, George photographed and documented his findings. He remained professional and unbiased throughout the entire process. He never said, "I wouldn't buy this house". He tried to explain the possible causes for his findings and he highly recommended that we hire a structural engineer to investigate the house further due to George's findings. It was my wife's and my decision to exit the contract with the seller. When we do find another home to possible purchase, we will definitely call Scott's Home Inspection again.
Description of Work: George, from Scott's Home Inspection, completed a pre-home purchase inspection in Thornton, CO. This inspection covered features ranging from the roof top to the basement floor. He evaluated water drainage systems and landforms. We also had a sewer scope inspection completed at the same time. The entire inspection took about three hours to complete.

Appointment was scheduled within a week of the request. The team was very responsive and even took the time to send several emails to us over the weekend to ensure quick scheduling. The prices are very cleared posted on their website. George checked all room for any internal, exterior, fence and roof damages. The price also included major systems like heating, cooling, foundation, sprinklers, water, outlets throughout the house. He also found all the "mysterious switches" that turns on something for me. Before he left, we verbally went over the report. He answered all my questions. The report was a downloadable 31 page pdf report.
Description of Work: As a first time home buyer, I was very confused and worried. The inspection report documented what things needed to be repaired, suggested maintenance repairs as well pointing out important valves and switches in the house. Great home inspection report detailed with photographs. I got the report in 48 hours. My Allstate agent commented on how good the report was.
