When my husband and I decided to have our basement finished, we thought it would be fairly easy to find a good contractor to do the job, boy, were we wrong! We called some using the phone book. It was not a good experience getting estimates, start and finish times nailed down. Some contractors that we called were either unlicensed, way over priced, forgot to come the day they were supposed to come for the estimate, were late or seemed uninterested in what we wanted. We just didn't get a good feeling from the four that we called and met. We were about ready to give up and put it off. Our final attempt was to check Angie's List to see if we could find someone that we did feel comfortable with, which we should have done in the first place. I contacted Mr. Jim Ruffin owner of Integrity Remodeling Services. We set up an appointment and within the next couple days, he showed up on time, emailed us a complete estimate including cost of labor, materials, start and approximate finish time. He emailed photos of work he has done on basements similar to what we have and what we wanted. He stayed in constant contact throughout the entire process from start to finish. He was on time, easy to communicate with and worked on the job each day until he finished as he said he would. There were a couple of times that I made changes but he had no problem with my requests and implemented them. As the process went along, he explained in detail what he was working on and what was to come next. My husband and I were very impressed with the quality of workmanship. He was very organized and cleaned up the area after each work day. He came prepared with all necessary tools and materials to complete the job. Upon completion, he took all waste materials (and there was alot) to the dump. Our overall experience was exceptionally positive: his quality of work was outstanding and customer service skills and professionalism were well appreciated. Mr. Ruffin is an extremely hard worker and utilized his time wisely. At the completion of the project, he was strictly on budget with no added costs. We are very happy with our new bedroom and bathroom. It looks great and turned out exactly the way we hoped it would. We highly recommend Mr. Ruffin and we plan to use his services again on future projects.

I had to wait a bit to get on Jim's calendar, but it was worth the wait. Jim did the work and remained within his estimate. The quality and professionalism was superb. He removed the tub/wall unit and put in a tub, installed the wall and tile. He also tiled the floor and installed new towel racks. He cleaned up after himself such that you would never know he had been there. It looks fabulous and I will certainly hire him again to install new flooring on the main floor. Thank you!!
Description of Work: The tub and floor were removed from the main bathroom and replaced.

I called Jim three different times about the deck repair, and got promises each time that he would come look at it. He never did. I don't like chasing flaky contractors, and would not call him again. I had to be cautious about going on the deck all winter. I finally got the deck repaired this March by a responsive contractor who got out to look the day after I called him and who fixed it the day after for a fair price.

this review is not appropriate (Member name removed) did call me and i informed him that i would call him back to look at the deck i left him a voicemail that i wanted to look at the project and at that time did not hear back for weeks so a contract came in in the meantime and i was super busy with that and assumed he already found someone. just because he called me during a busy time does not make someone a flaky contractor i really do not understand how someone can call someone names and get away with it when they never even met me at anytime.anyway he found someone to fix it why does he insist on calling me names when he never met me or worked with me in the first place.

EXCELLENT! He was there every day at 9am and worked a full day. He was always busy doing something when I came to check it out. Nice guy, great at what he does and has an excellent esthetic eye. AND FAST!!! Reluctant to post such positive ratings because I want him all to myself :-)

Jim and Scott were punctual and professional. They were careful of my things and cleaned up after themselves. Before starting they verified with me exactly the repairs we had agreed upon. They finished repairs within a timely manner. All repairs were well done; the trim looks great! I would definitely use this service again if I need other home handyman type repairs.

Does good work. He is pretty busy so it was kind of tough to pin down dates. Did a good job with the window he installed. There was a hole in wall where a swamp cooler used to be, and I had him put a window in. Painted ceilings, looks great. Stained base boards, looked great. Subcontracted to have wood floors put in. Looks fabulous. Only complaint is pinning him down for times and he had his wife come in one day to help him out, didn't really need to hear personal info on her husband. Sort of unprofessional. But overall I am very happy with results.

I rated my overall experience with Jim as a B only because of his attention to detail. In all other aspects he is an A+. Jim is a wonderful person and is willing and able to do most any job you need. It does not matter how big or how small, he will give it the same attention. I am a perfectionist and I design many of the things I want Jim to build. Jim does not remember details so you must write them down and many times work with him on projects if you want them to turn out exactly as planned. His price reflects the fact that he is prepared to work for those on a budget. He does not charge the high dollar contractor prices so you can expect that there might be a few "redos". That being said, if there is any aspect of the job that you are not satisfied with, he will immediately make it right. Jim has no problem salvaging and reusing whatever materials you have on hand to complete a job, thus saving me hundreds of dollars. I had to reuse doors, hardware, baseboards, tile etc. and he had no problem utilizing what I had and making it work. I have a champagne taste and a beer budget, therefore I must work with someone that will work with me. Jim will work with any budget and attempt any job, however, you must work with him to insure that you and he are on the same page. I enjoy being hands on so this does not bother me and I would not hesitate to hire him again. Thanks to Jim, the short sale of a house that I purchased, now has closets in every bedroom, a fully finished basement complete with its own kitchen, electrical issues solved, new lighting, ceiling fans and a beautiful stone mailbox to adorn the front. With a little patience and more involvement in your project you will be satisfied with the results that Jim is capable of achieving and you will have a little more jingle left in your pockets.
Description of Work: Jim has worked for me several times over the past year. He has done everything from drywall to plumbing. He built a beautiful custom mailbox for me out of various stones. He has built multiple closets, replaced and installed tile, baseboards, cabinets, ceiling fans, removed and re-installed doors, hardware and shelving systems. The approximate cost of service includes several jobs that he has completed.

I initially submitted requests for bids via Angie's List. Two responses said they were booked out for months, and four others did not respond at all. When Jim from Integrity contacted me and said he was scheduling out only two weeks, I was a little hesitant. I wondered why others were so busy, but he could get to me right away. However, I was very pleased with his work and dependability. He started my bathroom about two weeks later than he originally told me which is okay, because he called me to keep me informed of his timeline. Also, when he started, he did not try to start another job until he was completely finished with mine. He worked on my bathroom everyday until it was completed. Although the scope of the work, was a little more difficult and time consuming (because I used 4" tumbled marble), he did not alter his original quote of $1800. Jim seems to be a perfectionist. He didn't just hurry to get the job done. I bought all of the materials which allowed me to find deals on tile and fixtures instead of paying a remodeling company upcharge for materials. I would definitely use him again, and have recently requested a quote from him for other work.
Description of Work: Jim from Integrity completely gutted and remodeled a bathroom.

The job started on time and the demolition and removal of fixtures went well. Then the room had drywall repairs done and the room was repainted. The floor pan was installed well and work started on the tile for the shower. Jim had problems drilling the hole in the porcelain tile and broke a couple in the process then he decided on his own to use the backsplash tile material around the shower handle in place on the 12"X12" tile that was suppose to be there. I didn't care for that especially since he never asked about doing it before it was done. I thought it might cause more problems rather than have him tear it out. The floor installation went well as did the toilet, vanity, vanity counter top and faucet sink. We made some changes to the backsplash and added a cap that Jim suggested from some extra tiles we had, but it didn't look good at all and Jim was good about taking it out and redoing it. Even with that Jim did not install the backsplash as designed where it had a staggered edge that was to fit with another staggered edge, but that didn't happen in two places. Jim had his son with him a couple of days when the backsplash was being done and Jim said it was a distraction and I agree. We were also short of some of the backsplash tile sections due some he decided to use in the shower aslo he said his son took some apart that we shouldn't have. We had to order more backsplash tile. It would have been a better finish had these been installed as designed. The biggest issue was installing the shower enclosure and door. Jim cut the wrong length on the headers and then tried to piece what should have been a single piece with two pieces. The door didn't shut properly. Jim said he wasn't familiar with doing these installations. I said we needed to redo the header pieces and make the door work. Jim left it to me to order the parts. I started looking at the installation instructions and the design. I noticed that Jim left out another piece that went under the door. Don't know where that piece went. Jim also tried to use a different magnetic strip he purchased to help the door closure, but that didn't work either. I talked to the dealer rep and he was very helpful about ordering new parts and he told me how the magnetic strip was to be installed. I told Jim about how to install the magnetic strip and then JIm asked the dealer about that as well. I also asked Jim to check how flush the door was when closed before installing the magnetic strip. He had to realign the door since it was out of plumb then he installed the magnetic strip. Finally the door worked, but I felt it was only due to the my extra efforts. In addition Jim and gone ahead and started installing new towel racks without ever checking where they should be and had to relocate one. Jim misplaced the handles to the faucet shutoff valves and I found out yesterday that he never installed the nuts on the bolts that hold down the toilets which was something I had mentioned to him. To me this contractor is scattered and tends to be too quick to get something done. He was easy to work with, but did not pay attention to detail. If he had only taken some time to check more carefully on how to cut porcelain and how to install the shower enclosure a lot of time could have been saved and a better job could have been done.
Description of Work: The services performed included removing old bathroom fixtures, a wall, the flooring, a vanity, the toilet, relocating a vent and a light fixture, and moving some plumbing stub outs. New flooring was installed, a new vanity with new counter top, installing a new shower w/pan and new enclosure, adding porcelain tile at the shower and adding a back splash at the vanity. The backsplash was also added as an accent with the porcelain tile. New shower and sink fixture were added along with a new toilet. A new vent was also installed along with a new light fixture. The room was also repainted. I was the one who ordered all the new fixtures and most were delivered to the house. Jim picked up the vanity and the shower pan and enclosure. JIm also purchased some supplies.

I had Jim do my kitchen a year ago. We had talked about getting some of the outdoor work done when my budget allowed. I called Jim and we were able to do a lot of the work by email and without having to take valuable time from work. Jim got right on things on the schedule he gave me. We ran into a bit of weather and adjustments because that's what happens when you work on a 26 year old house. Jim did a new porch for me, had to tear off the old one and reconstruct a new one in the same footprint, put on a new stone countertop in my bathroom and remodel the shower stall with some plumbing and reconstruct the pergola on the back side of the house. We had some electrical issues that needed to be resolved as well. Everything was done on time with quality and as usual, Jim threw in a few extra touches to make the project worthwhile and enjoyable. Thanks Jim hope to have you back to work on the painting and the siding issues on the house this spring!

Jim did a fine job, with careful attention to detail, and a beautiful finished product! Price was very competitive. Jim is multi-faceted, and can competently handle many diverse tasks. He referred and coordinated with an electrical contractor. Only problem was a couple of unanticipated delays due to his sandwiching in some smaller jobs during this month-long project. Demands on his time are growing, and he still tries to operate for the most part as a one-man show....spread a bit thin sometimes. But would definitely use him again!

The work was performed satisfactorily. Jim faced some challenges and dealt with them professionally and courteously. He was pleasant enough to deal with and didn't seem flustered at all when things didn't go well. We had asked for pricing on several other small jobs which obviously aren't in his area of expertise (some were quoted VERY high). We did not receive a proper written proposal, nor did we receive a written invoice at the jobs' completion. Additionally, he asked that the check be made to him personally (not the business). After he left (the next day, actually) we discovered that he had disposed of the old toilet in our trash can and in a yard waste can we had in the garage. Good thing we had some spare trash stickers! We'd also agreed for him to see if he could repair our storm door. He neglected to even look at it. We prefer to deal with professionals and feel that Jim (or "Alex"--we aren't sure which name he actually goes by--the check was written to Alex Ruffin) can certainly improve his professionalism a little bit. That will go a long way toward repeat business from folks like us.

A member of his team was brought over and introduced to us. He was a really decent guy, which made it very easy to connect with him as the project was in progress. I am a female alone at home when workmen come, so character is important to me. He was efficient, communicated about anything he saw that went beyond the walk-throughs, and was willing to discuss anything I wanted to when I checked on how things were going. Nothing was ever done as a surprise so there were no surprise bills either. He approached the safety issues first and found the reason why the deck had become unstable and jiggling which was not easy to find. He was creative about adding safety structure to the underside of the deck and went out of his way to make sure it was solid as a rock. What impressed me the most was that he did the project as if it were his own. He was creative in his fixes, careful in his planning and did a thorough, careful job with the painting. The reason I stress his care so much is that every time I saw what he was doing or talked with him it was like he lived here and wanted it done right and looking good. He was flexible enough that a few handyman tasks got added to the project and both were done well. Every day sometime before he left he would tell me which day he was coming back and about what time. He was on time each day so that I could pace my own schedule appropriately and was able to count on him for that. His clean-up went beyond what I would expect. I am completely happy with this business and plan to call them back for a variety of projects over the years.
Description of Work: Our deck faces west and a huge field is behiind our house so the wear and tear on the deck over the years was pretty bad with the sun exposure, the wind and full brunt of the storms hitting it. We had wood rot, missing bolts, peeling paint, split wood and the deck itself was jiggling as though unteathered. It was ugly and unsafe at this point. The owner came by once for his estimate and once more just before the project was to begin to specify each board replacement and each repair. We got an estimate from him that seemed fair to all. There was some sense of hurry because we were at the end of Fall and didn't know when the first snow would come. Neither party could have started the project any earlier so we had to accept the timing it gave us.

Overall, we are very pleased with Jim's work. We would definitately hire him for future projects. My husband and I were getting settled into our new home while Jim was working on the shower, and Jim went above and beyond to accomodate us. I do wish that Jim would have laid down coverings on our new carpets before commencing work. Although there was not a problem, I would have appreciated this extra step. We highly recommend Jim for any of your home improvement needs!
Description of Work: My husband and I wanted our shower remodeled from a plain-looking shower/tub combination to a custom walk-in shower. Jim came to the house for an estimate quickly after our initial contact. He quickly provided an estimate and worked with us to decide whether we would like him to pick out the supplies (tile, grout color, etc.) or whether we would like to do this ourselves. We chose to do this ourselves, communicate with and pay Jim for supplies and have him pick up all supplies. Jim scheduled our project quickly and completed the project in a reasonable about of time. We worked with Jim and his employee to choose a unique tile pattern. Jim's employee, Gabe, is clearly a master at his craft. The finished shower exceeded our expectations.

We caught Jim in the middle of his busiest time of year. He was able to get the roof put on within about 10 days. Jim came back to complete the remaining work as he could, in between jobs. Everything has been completed and his work passed the final inspection yesterday. Jim helped us out in a jam, and completed work that he did not start. He gave us all the receipts for the materials as we went along. We would hire him again. Thanks Jim
Description of Work: We wanted a dog door installed in our wall with a ramp, and a cover for our patio. We previously hired a different person to do this, and had to fire him for numerous reasons. We were left with a framed in patio with no roofing and the dog door still wasn't installed. We called a handful of people to get bids for finishing the job. We chose Jim based on his price and the ability to complete the job in a timely manner. Jim completed the patio and installed the dog door with a ramp.

Do spell out exactly what you think he should do. He is a nice guy. He did a good job with the tile and worked hard to repair the counter top that my husband and rush and needed to be fixed. He was willing to do this before starting on the kitchen cabinets. Don't assume he knows how to do prep work or restore wood. When it came to resoring the kitchen cabinets, he used the wrong fihish, sanded oak with water bringing out tannins. I didn't question or even notice that Glossy finish was used, or even realized that our cabinets were satin. The overspray was bad on our oak floors and the overspray even made it onto our wall. His helper was pretty worthless. He said he would do whatever I wanted... (not missing obvious scratches etc) but I don't think I should have had to ask. I expect workmen to know how to do their job.... why would I pay for a job that was not a thorough job. oh well....
Description of Work: last minute kitchen countertop tile repair - did a nice job at the last minute. This was the best of what he did. He had a good attitude and that went a long way to make me not question his skills. When I initially contacted him, he came over and I told him that i wanted my kitchen light oak cabinets restored to good condition. He said reassured me that he could do this by wetsanding an varhishing. The house is 12 years old and the cabinets needed to be sanded and revarnished, especially under the sink. He lightly wet sanded with fine 220 grit then used spray varnish. no question, overall the cabinets look better, but my husband was very upset with because our cabinets were not gloss, they were satin.... they are gloss now. Unfortunately, the cabinet doors under the sink do not look the way I had hoped; yes better, but not restored. The glossy overspray ended up on my oak floor. He mentioned that his father in law refinishes wood floors... perhaps he thought I was going to re-do my floors and so overspray was not important..... I also asked for the light oak stair rails to be refinished... ie) so that the greyish discoloration would be sanded away and revarnished to make then look fresh again. because his assistant did not show up, I ended up sanding the entire day to get the job done wile he worked in the kitchen. I didn't get a price break for all the work I put in on the project and he even asked for additional money for the extra $38 dollars he spent on spray varnish. There was overspray on many surfaces. even 1" surrounding the rail on my painted living room wall, This overspray is also seen on the satin finished oak flooring, (now glossy around the cabinets) there were run varnish marks on the stair post which can be seen and needs to be resanded. Because I sanded, when he sprayed the wood with the spray varnish, it left the rails rough to the touch. The job is still not done. I also asked for the oak trimmed windows to be repaired since there were water rings on the window sill's oak. He said he could make it better.... all he did was wet sand the area and revarnish, leaving the still visible water stains freshly varnished, again, with gloss not satin. sc When I initially called him to ask him to come back to fix the stair rails he didn't call back for a few days. In the end, my husband said to just cut the loss and he didn't want him back. He is a nice guy, but the quality of the wood work, choices of materials, use of my painting tarp to protect my floor, the overspray, the poor finish of the stairs and finally not responding.... I give him an overall LOW grade.

actually we did use gloss the original intent from (member's name) the owner was to improve the existing cabinets as cheaply as possible.for her to state we did not use gloss was not true.I offered to come back and fix the few minor issues overall the areas worked on were improved for a really low price. So there was mis communication on both our parts.I always am willing to remedy a situation with a 99%good quality rating im not in agreement with this review and would have been happy to resolve the minor issues.

It went very well Jim was able to meet our needs at a very good price. Due to timing and delivery times there were some delays but Jim handle them all well and handle the changes we requested well.
Description of Work: Jim was originally called in to do our kitchen remodel and ended up doing 2 bathrooms, a bedroom, living room and dining room as well as the kitchen.
