We had asked for pricing on several other small jobs which obviously aren't in his area of expertise (some were quoted VERY high). We did not receive a proper written proposal, nor did we receive a written invoice at the jobs' completion. Additionally, he asked that the check be made to him personally (not the business). After he left (the next day, actually) we discovered that he had disposed of the old toilet in our trash can and in a yard waste can we had in the garage. Good thing we had some spare trash stickers! We'd also agreed for him to see if he could repair our storm door. He neglected to even look at it.
We prefer to deal with professionals and feel that Jim (or "Alex"--we aren't sure which name he actually goes by--the check was written to Alex Ruffin) can certainly improve his professionalism a little bit. That will go a long way toward repeat business from folks like us.
"thanks member the electrical in the attic was done prior by someone else and we were happy to clean it up into a proper junction box with the proper cover now the curcuits are to code thank you for the kitchen project we look forward to working with you in the near future//jim"
What impressed me the most was that he did the project as if it were his own. He was creative in his fixes, careful in his planning and did a thorough, careful job with the painting. The reason I stress his care so much is that every time I saw what he was doing or talked with him it was like he lived here and wanted it done right and looking good. He was flexible enough that a few handyman tasks got added to the project and both were done well. Every day sometime before he left he would tell me which day he was coming back and about what time. He was on time each day so that I could pace my own schedule appropriately and was able to count on him for that. His clean-up went beyond what I would expect. I am completely happy with this business and plan to call them back for a variety of projects over the years.
Jim came back to complete the remaining work as he could, in between jobs. Everything has been completed and his work passed the final inspection yesterday.
Jim helped us out in a jam, and completed work that he did not start. He gave us all the receipts for the materials as we went along.
We would hire him again.
Thanks Jim
He is a nice guy. He did a good job with the tile and worked hard to repair the counter top that my husband and rush and needed to be fixed. He was willing to do this before starting on the kitchen cabinets.
Don't assume he knows how to do prep work or restore wood.
When it came to resoring the kitchen cabinets, he used the wrong fihish, sanded oak with water bringing out tannins. I didn't question or even notice that Glossy finish was used, or even realized that our cabinets were satin. The overspray was bad on our oak floors and the overspray even made it onto our wall.
His helper was pretty worthless. He said he would do whatever I wanted... (not missing obvious scratches etc) but I don't think I should have had to ask. I expect workmen to know how to do their job.... why would I pay for a job that was not a thorough job.
oh well....
"actually we did use gloss the original intent from (member's name) the owner was to improve the existing cabinets as cheaply as possible.for her to state we did not use gloss was not true.I offered to come back and fix the few minor issues overall the areas worked on were improved for a really low price. So there was mis communication on both our parts.I always am willing to remedy a situation with a 99%good quality rating im not in agreement with this review and would have been happy to resolve the minor issues."
"I appreciate the member's review even though supplies were very custom everything came together and in the end the project looked so good you could drive there just to eat breakfast."
