Daniels Landscape and Design LLC

Excellent. Last year (2012), Daniel and his team worked hard throughout a hot summer week and turned our yard from a weed-filled vacant lot into a lovely area. We had a plan for what we wanted, which Daniel worked with me to implement, we made modifications along the way, in part thanks to Daniel's excellent ideas. As the project went along, he or I would come up with an improvement, and on-the-fly, he'd incorporate it into the project. Of particular note, we had a mess of flagstones and bricks, and Daniel's crew did a great job of repurposing them, including laying down a flagstone path that looks like it was custom made just for our space. He offered helpful advise and assistance for aspects of the project I was handling myself, he even gave me a lift to Home Depot so I could bring some large items back in his truck. Since the project, I've had Daniel do some follow-up small projects, including some work this summer, and we plan on working with him again next year for the next major phase of our project. During the summer Daniel is quite busy, as all good landscape contractors are, and can be harder to reach--but I've found him more responsive than most, and delivers on what he promises. An outstanding vendor.

Daniel and his team were very professional. Daniel was responsive and punctual with the bid and assessment, and his crew was able to begin work within the time frame specified - earlier, in fact. Daniel had a good sense of what would look good in our backyard and we were very pleased with the plan. The patio itself was completed in three days, and Daniel's crew was very professional and attentive to detail. They also did a good job removing and replacing a part of fence that had to be removed temporarily to bring the materials to the backyard. We have been very pleased with the patio, and think it turned out superb. We also had Daniel's crew plant some shrubs and install mulch around part of the patio, which turned out very nice as well. Daniel was very gracious to replace one of the shrubs for free after our dog ripped it up! We love our patio, and would hire Daniel's Landscape and Design again.

We never heard from Daniels. I called several times and left messages. Finally, a lady called and said she'd be taking over the plan and would like to restart from scratch. So we made an appt. Day before appointment, she called to reschedule. I said OK. New appointment day & time came and she never showed up or called. So I'm done with Daniel's Landscape & Design. I now want my $99 deposit back since I didn't get anything.

Our previous landscaping had turned into an overgrown mess with tons of bushes, weeds, and other chaos. Daniel and his crew transformed our front and side yard from an unusable eye sore into a beautiful space that is the envy of the neighborhood (one neighbor called our front-yard a National Park)! Daniel has an incredible eye for detail and their crew was extremely hard working?they didn?t cut any corners and delivered an incredible result that exceeded our expectations. Daniel made sure he understood our concept and then worked with us throughout installation as we adjusted, refined, and we even went with him to the nursery to hand select plants?twice! The Earthstone we used for the patio and walkway was difficult to work with due to variability in thickness of different stones. Daniel and his crew (especially Eduardo and Juan) accepted the challenge and were meticulous with selecting, leveling, and adjusting the patio stone to perfectly install the custom patio of our dreams. Throughout installation, Daniel and Eduardo (Daniel?s brother who was the onsite lead everyday) worked with us on changes and the crew was courteous, hard-working, and incredibly efficient. They completely redid our entire front and side yard landscaping in 5 days. Daniel gets things done right and the quality of all the products and installation is top notch. The crew worked well together, cleaned up the project site every day, and were very focused on making sure we were happy with everything?which we are. We highly recommend Daniel for any of your landscaping needs!

I had told Daniel that I had a big job. I have a larger than typical yard. Daniel said he could not do the $99.00 special on my yard. I told him I was willing to work with him on that. He said he would have his design person come out that weekend. I have never heard another word from them. Daniel did not perform any services, nor did he return my $99.00.

DO NOT USE!!!! I read the reviews on Angie's List for Daniels Landscaping and was impressed with the one customer who gave detailed information on the great quality service he gave. I also read the negative comments about poor communication. Based on the one rave review I decided to give him a call. I received a phone response the next day and set up an appointment 7/9/13. On the day of the appointment he not only did not show up but he did not call either. I left him a voice message and as 7/13/13 I have not heard a word from him. I arranged my entire day around this appointment--lost time at work for it also. I find it extremely unprofessional, discourteous, and rude. My time is important too and for a business owner to discount that shows a complete lack of professional/customer service.

From the initial quote to the final sell off this was an example of how a small business should be run! Daniel arrived on schedule for an initial quote. Based on calls to other companies this was rarer than we would have thought. He listened as we described in broad terms what we wanted to do. As we had no good idea of price we asked him to bid the job in three stages. He returned a week later with a sketch of his plan. We considered his bid and others and selected Daniel primarily because he responded to all of our requests and made some key improvements based on his experience. While Daniel was not the lowest bidder he was close and met all of our design requirements plus some. We committed to a tentative mid July start date. Two weeks later Daniel called and said he had some scheduling changes and could start the next day...almost a month early! The crew arrived on schedule and worked long hours for ten days. Daniel was there from the start and made frequent drive bys and phone calls to ensure that the job was on track. His crew of Eduardo, Juan and others were skilled and hard workers. They did excellent stonework and were very good in minimizing collateral damage to other landscaping and leaving a clean work site every day. Watching the crew and the daily progress you could tell they were good at their jobs and worked very well together. The work went much faster than I ever anticipated. We made some minor layout adjustments as they went. The communication and attention to detail was phenomenal. The pictures of before and after says it all. It was a pleasure to do business with Daniel and his entire crew; I highly recommend them.

I got 4 bids for a pond-less waterfall in the backyard and I felt most comfortable with Daniels' responsiveness (one company came out to bid the job yet never sent an estimate, despite my calling to ask about it), his design ideas and his professionalism. Daniel has a great eye for detail and color. Daniel worked us into his schedule 2 weeks in advance of our agreed-upon date because I mentioned we were having an upcoming party - how great it that?! What Daniel thought would take a week to do took his hardworking crew only 3 days to complete, and they even worked most of the July 4th holiday. The crew was courteous and respectful and we hardly knew they were here. The finished product was more than we ever could have imagined and it gives our backyard a peaceful and natural feel that can only be achieved with a well-designed water feature. I would not ever hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needed a landscape project, big or small. He was so great to work with and is very talented!

He came out to look at our property and said that he cannot do this design. You need a professional landscape design or this is more than I can do. So, we were not happy with that, but we contacted the landscape designer that he works with. She came out and wanted to charge us $600 for a landscape design that he said he would do for $99. We ended up negotiating with her for a lesser price. I told her that she needed to collect the $99 from Daniel that we had paid through Angie’s list. He would not pay her and he said that Angie’s List gets part of that money, do I am not paying you. As far as I am concerned, he is not a scrupulous businessman. He got $99 for nothing. I would have been happy to pay extra for a design. He said that would not do it. He said that he could do a sketch, but not a design. We did not get anything at all from him. The price would be good if we had received something. He canceled on us a couple of times and then we had to chase him down. I never use him again.

Daniel, the owner and landscape designer, was easy to contact, prompt in all scheduling and incredibly knowledgeable about hardscape and landscape design and implementation. His estimate for our job was thorough and reasonable considering the scope of what we wanted to accomplish. We told Daniel how we wanted to use our yard and pretty much left the rest to him. His design was what we wanted and upon completion of the project, it was what both he and we had envisioned. Daniel has a great eye for color and how to maximize space. The crews performing the work in our yard were respectful of our home and our neighbors. They worked long days to provide us with a minimum number of days of disruption. Communication with the job supervisor was easy and comfortable. Our yard now is an incredible, peaceful and comfortable retreat and a fantastic living space.

He and his crew did a good job. Daniel is a very nice person to work with. He is professional, hard working, talented and creative. I am very pleased with the beautiful flower gardens in the front yard and the prep work for the vegetable garden in the back. I believe his prices were fair for all the work he and his crew accomplished. My only complaint is that I wish they would have hauled in more garden soil. Some of the pea gravel was not hauled away completely and so it is mixed in with the garden soil in some places and overall it seems the soil level is not high enough. I didn't realize this until I started planting the vegetables and by then it was too late to do much about it this year. This is mostly my fault though as I should have checked the soil better when the crew was still here and then communicated my concerns with Daniel. I know Daniel would have fixed the issue if I had done that. It is obvious he is very considerate and wants to do the best job possible!

Called Daniel, who was courteous and prompt in setting up an appointment. He showed up at our house in mid-May (he was willing to work with us by coming after work). He walked us through some options for some shade trees in our back yard and possible sodding, and we sent him our plot plan, at his request. He told us he would get us a plan. Since then (more than a month), we've heard nothing, despite three emails seeking plan and estimate. Nothing at all. Hoping everything's ok, but barring that, this experience was unfortunately a waste of time. Understand landscapers are busy this time of year, but no response at all is bad business. Now we're into the heat of the summer season and planting will be harder. Disappointed.

Daniel was one of three landscapers I contacted and received quotes from. In each instance I told the landscaper what I hoped to achieve while also acknowledging that it may have to be a multiphase project in order to fit our budget. The first two bids from other landscapers were $12,500. I do not believe those bids were high for what they offered. In fact, they were pretty good. When Daniel showed up and I told him that I didn't think I could go that high, I assumed he would have to a partial job in order to meet my budget. He walked around the yard with me, hearing my desires and offering his suggestions. When he got back to me a few days later with a proposal, I was floored to learn that not only was his bid for $8,500 but it included everything I had asked for! (I actually added a few things which took the price to $9500.) How did he do it? Well, he didn't use lesser quality products which another landscaper suggested in order to save money. In fact, when I asked him about the prospect of using lesser quality material for the retaining wall he said that while that might save money right now, he felt it would cost more in the end, especially because it would be hit by sprinklers regularly and we have a lot of wind going through our yard daily. Instead, he said we could save that money by only making the wall as high as it needed to be where it needed to be. That is, in one area, if needed to be three or four feet, but across half of the yard, where it only allowed for a path to the side yard and nothing else, it only needed to be about 12 inches. Moreover, we could reuse some of our existing stones from the old wall for that portion. Long story short, we have a wall that looks much better than what others suggested at a much better price thanks to Daniel's vision. He asked about not only our current intentions but our possible future intentions when it came to choosing the lawn. For instance, we don't have a dog, so a particular type of turf would be fine and less expensive. But because Daniel asked about our future plans (I knew we hoped to get a dog in the next few years) we were able to put in a turf that would handle a dog if the times comes instead of having to re-sod down the line and at an additional cost. Once again, thanks to Daniel for helping me see this. Privacy trees were a BIG deal for us. On one side especially, we are very close to our neighbor and while we get along very well, I wanted to help contribute to our privacy needs. I had tried to plant some trees last year and one died and the other, while doing fine, is clearly not providing any privacy. Bad choices on my part. Daniel was able to recommend a mix of Vanderwolf pines and Aspen clumps that both look awesome and provide a beautiful privacy barrier. Not only that, I felt the pricing for the trees and labor (including planting, irrigation, ground covering, etc.) was very good. Service is important to me so let me say a little about that. I don't want to get into specifics regarding other landscapers, but suffice it to say that Daniel arrived when he said he would, provided the proposal within one day of when he said he would (we both forgot about the holiday so I figured he might be a day late), and was a pleasure to work with overall. A couple of times no one answered the phone, but in each instance, I received a call-back minutes later. I also emailed him a couple of times and while he got back to me, I think the phone was the better option for him. This is the busy time of the year for landscapers so I decided to get a deposit of 20% in so I could get on the calendar with Daniel. This was in late May. I got on the schedule for June 17. A week later I got a call from Daniel asking if we were ready because, for logistical reasons, he wanted to start my project early. I was thrilled and said sure! They started on June 7 and Daniel estimated they would be done on June 13. They were done June 12, a day early, to my full satisfaction. Something else I want to mention is the crew. Daniel had a crew of four men who worked hard and persistently from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday and then Monday through Wednesday. They were extremely courteous and friendly and showed a great deal of respect for our property and family. My girls would often play on our back deck just feet from them (the girls loved to watch them use the "tractor"!) and they were kind and friendly and considerate always. They were respectful when it came to storing their materials, using our driveway and street parking and all that stuff. We had to leave for the afternoon on the day they finished. When we came home that evening and they were gone, it looked as if they had never been there! The property was spotless. That's a big deal! Lastly, I want to note that Daniel's crew went out of their way to do little things here and there that were not even part of the plan. They filled in river rock in places where it had thinned out or disappeared entirely. They repaired metal path trim where it had come out of the ground or bent, etc. Access to our backyard is tough. They had to go over a slanted area of river rock and some old plants to get back there. Frankly, it didn't look very good before they showed up. But of course, before they left they put new rock down and cleaned everything up and it looks better than ever! It seems that every time I walk out there I see another improvement that I didn't expect. The bottom line is that I now have a "Landscape Guy"! I have already recommended him once and will continue to do so. There are at least two more projects I have in mind for the back yard and when I am ready financially, I will call him first thing.

Daniel and crew arrived on time and completed work as described. Much better experience then our prior attempt with a landscaping company found on Craigslist.

I had received three separate bids for the work to be done and the other two were not near as good as Daniel's. He was the only one of the three that gave me a drawing, talked about ideas for different plants and gave some wonderful suggestions. Daniel is extremely pleasant to work with. He was ALWAYS on time when we made appointments and made sure along the way that I was happy with the decisions. Daniel even came out to meet with our HOA as they had questions concerning the landscaping. Daniel's team showed up on time and worked from 7:30 a.m. till approximately 7:00 p.m., they were pleasant, hard working, kind and trustworthy. Daniel's brother was on site all of the time when Daniel was unable to be present. I could not believe how efficient they were as a team. The plants are already beginning to grow after a week's time. Daniel came out twice already to make sure every thing was functioning. He checked our entire front watering system and had his team replace four sprinkler heads that were not functioning well. (not in his job description) I want to have them look at the back yard for next year. I can't even begin to tell people how reliable I feel Daniel's Landscaping and Design is!! Their work is impeccable. Our neighbors say they now have to step up and have something done to their yards.

We were already in the Spring season and I didn't think that Daniel could provide services for a few weeks. I just happened to mention that we were having a family reunion and he made sure the work would be done before the gathering. Within 2 weeks of the initial estimate, his crew came out and had the work done in 4 days. We live a slight hill and we needed our front yard to be even with our neighbors. That required a retainer wall at the end of the property and a lot of back fill. The wall was then matched on the other side of our driveway and a third wall to match in front of our porch. Our mailbox and access to the water meter had to stay at their original places, so the crew creatively built the wall around them and placed perennials on either side of the driveway. The masonry work did not have that rushed looking work. All our neighbors really like it. They are all real professionals!

They were professional but they were hard to contact and it was after a week after they called me back. After the estimate, they never came back. I will not use them again in the future.

It is beautiful. It went very well, they did a great job. They seemed very professional and were very hard workers. I think the price was reasonable.

The weather was not at all cooperative, but Daniel's crew was ready to work each day it was at all feasible so that the job was completed before I thought it would be. Daniel suggested the color for the new patio and it is perfect. The stone walls in the garden have some of the same color plus some variations so that everything blends well but the wall still stands out on its own. Each stone was hand shaped to fit with the next - it looks fabulous. I misunderstood when Daniel said he would build a bench when it fact he intended part of the wall to act as a bench, so I suggest getting a sketch of his plan which I did not do. The crew cleaned up everything as well as could be expected when they were done with the job.

Daniel promptly answers his phone, is flexible in scheduling time, arrived promptly to provide the estimate, and quickly sent me the estimate so that I had it in hand within 2 days. His prices are reasonable and his references check out. Since the work I had him price is for new buyer of my home, I did not use his service. But I will definitely use his service if needed at my new home. I am loyal to those who provide great service.

It took us a little while to connect. Once we did, everything from there went well. I was amazed at the daily tranformation of our yard. I couldn't have been more pleased. Daniel kept us in the loop and wanted our input along the way. I felt very much like a joinr project. Couldn't have been any better.

Daniel was right on time for both visits. Although he did not give me a diagram (which I had expected to receive), he did describe the proposed work in good detail. I decided at the end of the second visit to go forward with the work and look forward to it starting, weather permitting, in a couple of weeks.

Daniel was prompt and professional. He gave us an immediate estimate and then emailed a copy the next day. The work was completed in less than one day. Daniel and his crew cleaned up the area, did not disturb the walkway, and generally did a great job. The area looked as it had before they began, except that the bush was gone. We will not turn the sprinklers on for at least a month, so I don't know yet if the lines are completely functional. But Daniel addressed this before leaving, telling me that if we had any issues when we turned the sprinklers on to call him and he would come fix the problem. I highly recommend this company.

I was very impressed with the professionalism and work ethic of Daniel and his team. He showed up on time to give me my estimate and asked me several question about what I wanted and what my goals were. The trees were planted as a privacy screen. I had no idea what I was going to use for privacy and the trees were his idea and they look great. I was expecting the job to take two days, but his crew showed up promptly and went right to work. It was completed in one day. They asked me several questions about placement of the slab, and discussed the pros and cons with me. Daniel is very knowledgable in his field, and had a lot of good advice. I will be using this group again for a much larger job I will have this fall that includes the demolition of a cinder block wall, and the installation of a retaining wall and a fence.

I can't say enough about the level of professionalism, the attention to detail, the daily cleanup, the responsiveness to change requests. Daniel is a perfectionist and his crew were too. I have spent most of my life around construction work and these folks were tireless workers. The night after all the work was completed Daniel came back in the dark to make sure the lights all worked. The next morning he came back again to do some finishing touches I wasn't even aware of. To say this experience was pleasant is an understatement. We are more than thrilled with everything. Not only do I highly recommend Daniel but I plan to use them again. I feel like the care involved in their workmanship is beyond compare.
