They were excellent. They laid out at the outset what they thought the problem was and what it would cost and they scheduled a person. He arrived on time, did everything he said he would and it’s worked beautifully ever since. They weren’t as expensive as I had anticipated.
Description of Work: Bell Plumbing & Heating Company came out to redo the inside of all 3 toilets that were running nonstop. They also replaced the flapper.

We are new in town and needed to remodel our bathroom. Unfortunately we did not consult Angies's list first. We went in person on the 12th and Gregg took time to work with us in the showroom. He promised a quote on the parts list I gave hime (all Kohler numbers were provided) and a cabinet drawing. First I had to e-mail him a second time asking him to respond to my previous e-mails so I know he actually got it. Only on this request did he answer me. He promised to have something to me the following Tuesday Wednesday and still today nothing (July 23rd). All the reviews had a read them say this is a chronic problem and I would agree it is true. I have decided to go with Fergesons and they were given the same information on the same day (july 12th) and I had it on the 14th. Can I say more......
Description of Work: Actually the provider did not do anything and that is the issue. It could have been a $5000.00 sale for them or more.

Their guy was very good and very professional. He came in "after-hours" as I couldn't find a plumber within a week and there was a light drip... Had to get it done. Their flat-pricing put it at 526 dollars!! I didn't get that price until I was already $75 dollars into the service visit. I provided the replacement valve, so he really only needed to drain the system, sweat the old valve off, and put the new one on. The valve was in a readily-accessible water closet- so not really a challenging spot to work in. The visit took less than an hour total (including draining the system of a 4000 square foot home (this took, by far, the most time). The company seems to be great- but at 526.00 an hour when I'm providing the materials- I likely won't be back. I like the idea of a flat-rate, but the company should consider I called and left a voicemail prior to this post to discus the price without a call-back. I guess I could've balked in-person and only been out the 75.00.
Description of Work: Replaced a gate valve after I stripped the waste-gate off. Simple valve replacement.

After hearing from two of my neighbors about my swamp cooler squeaking, I finally had to get someone out to service my 7 year old swamp cooler. I called 7 companies from Angie's list to see who could come out and their pricing. Most companies couldn't get a service technician out for at least two weeks and some companies charged a ridiculous service fee. When I called Bell Plumbing, I explain my issue and asked when and how much, just like I did the others. She said she could get someone out this afternoon and quoted me a service call price of $49! This is almost $25 - $30 cheaper than the others I called. I also asked if I could use the Angie's list coupon special and she said "yes" for any service work that resulted. Jeff called to announce that he was on his way. He was very professional and very nice. I explained the problem and he said he'll go have a look. He quoted me a price of $114 minus any coupons. After he did his magic, he explained what he did and assured me that I solved the root cause and boom, he was done! Everything about this call was A+. Pricing was reasonable, Bell provided same day service and neighbors are happy. Will most definitely use Bell Plumbing again.
Description of Work: My swamp cooler was "squeaking" and my neighbors didn't like it! Jeff from Bell Plumbing came out and serviced the unit; tighten belts, topped off oil well, cleaned pullies where needed. Neighbors will be happy tonight:-)

Very well. He arrived on time, was polite and very professional. He cleaned up after he was done, explained the warranty and made sure that the water pressure was adequate before he left. Bell tends to be a little more expensive but they are prompt and the work is always excellent. We have had them work on the furnace and other small plumbing jobs and it has always been a good experience.

Upon inspection of the drain, timing how long it took to drain 5 gallons, the technician suggested cleaning out the drain and gave me the price to do this. After my approval, he took apart the decorative cover and cleaned out the drain for some length. Upon completion of the cleaning the drain works as it should. Very happy with the service, though the price was a bit higher that I had expected. I am happy to pay more for quality work from a reputable source.

I have used Bell Plumbing for many years & wouldn't use anybody else. When they do something, they do it right. Very knowledgeable people. For instance, rooting out the sewer lines. Last time they did this for me, the guy had 2 machines & rooted all the way to the street. Trouble free now for years. I depend on them for their expertise. The charges are fair for the quality of the work.
Description of Work: Furnace quit in January. Bell came out, diagnosed & did maintenance on it for modest sum of $125. Problem was likely to occur again & did 4 weeks later. Repairman unplugged nozzle again & explained that furnace was breaking down after 15 years of service. Time to think about a new one. 2nd visit was free. Furnace is getting me through the last of winter until I can plan for a new one.

Technician came over to diagnose the heater, but couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. He had a couple of ideas like the gas valve or maybe an airflow problem of some sort, but didn't know how to tell exactly what was wrong. I ended up paying $50 for the service call because that's the minimum they charge, but I would've been happy to pay more if he could've fixed the heater. Now I have to find someone else to come over and fix it.
Description of Work: My forced air heater wasn't working very well. Sometimes it would cut out after a few minutes and wouldn't come back on for hours. I'd asked Bell to come over and diagnose the heater to figure out how to get it working more reliably.

Two fellows showed up, I took them to the water heater, before they ever touched the heater one fellow started the hard sell to buy a new water heater. Scare tactics like, We may not be able to replace the water faucet it may break off inside the water heater." My response was "Well that wouldn't hurt the performance in anyway if it stayed inside the heater." No response. For approximately ten minutes the one fellow went on and on about a new water heater and all the potential problems they might have while removing the old water faucet and putting a new one on. When I finally stated if I did need a new water heater I would buy from someone else like Home Depot. At that point he handed me a contract and said, "The cost was going to be $272.00 and "IF" they had trouble putting the faucet on it could go up. I said fine and signed. The price was very exorbitant, but I needed my hot water sooner than later. I watched the removal and installation as it took less time to unscrew the old faucet and put a new metal faucet on than it did to stop the attempt to get me to buy a new water heater. Even after the installation, the newly installed faucet was turned on and the tank was drained for a few moments. At which time, Mr. You Need a New Water Heater Hard Sell, said: "Is that rust. Is that rust coming out. Neither his partner nor I could see any rust coming from the water heater and only then did he give up the pressure to buy a new water heater. The only thing Bell Heating and Plumbing has is availability when you can't get someone else. I strongly recommend getting someone else, they are not interested in fixing as much as replacing with their product.
Description of Work: My water heater faucet was leaking. The water faucet to flush the water heater was made of plastic and I was unable to turn it off completely. All attempts to turn it off only made it worse. I had to shut the water heater completely down. I called a couple of companies and was told they were booked up to seven days with one and ten days with another. That was too long to be without hot water. Bell Heating and Plumbing had an emergency number and I called it during store hours.. They could come out the next day. The heater worked great never had any problems with it what so ever. All that was needed was to change the faucet at the bottom of the tank.

The service tech from Bell came out and looked at our heating system boilers. He explained how the boilers we had were "a piece of..." well I don't need to say the word. He kept telling me that they weren't up to code and that he would bring them up to code. Given my experience with the boilers, I know their condition. I've had many service techs from different companies work on them. I can spot BS when I see it and the Bell tech had no interest in getting his hands dirty. My only problem was that my board of directors wanted me to use Bell; otherwise, I would have told him that he was trespassing and that he needed to leave. I wasted over an hour of my time knowing that this guy wouldn't do anything. When he finally left he told me that other techs would be out tomorrow to service the boilers. No one showed-up the next day. I called Bell only to discover that no service tech would be coming out. Instead, they were bringing in their sales team--I told them they were not going to do that. Since then, I called Avalanche Mechanical (heating and air conditioning). It was a large, dirty job and it took time. (As long as 2 of the 4 boilers are working we're okay until it gets really cold.) They cleaned-up and fixed all of the boilers. When they were cleaned-up they even ran tests on them to see how efficient they were. They also gave me the rebate forms for Xcel energy. They're working fine and I expect to get many more years out of them before they will actually need to be replaced.
Description of Work: My Board of Directors for this HOA wants me to use Bell Plumbing and Heating. We have heating boilers that needed serious service. This is a 5 story 50 unit building. We have 4 boilers. They were plugged with soot.

I have a weird Lennox combination furnace and hot water heater. Its not longer made and parts not available so few people know how to service it. Its only 10 years old so it's be a shame to replace it. But after serial problems and investing too much money already, I was resigned to having it replaced. I got three estimates from highly reviewed companies. Bell sent their estimator who could have joined in and given me a $5-10,000 quote to replace both the furnace and hot water heater in an odd space with poor access to outside air requiring special extra vent work and dry wall work. Instead, he came up with a solution for my problem and offered an $800 repair. Bell charges more for labor than other companies because their service techs are union but I was super impressed by this level of service and integrity. I'm sold on Bell and I will call them again in the future.

The water heater was leaking from the bottom. I called Bell Plumbing and Heating to schedule an appointment. I asked the service individual what the cost would be if the gas water heater would need to be replaced. Looking at a 40 gallon tank, he said about $900. he also offered an estimate for an upgrade, but I do not remember the details. I then asked what the labor would be if I bought the tank separately and he did not know, but that the service technicians would have the information in a book that was on the truck. I thought that was odd that he could quote me a price for the tank and installation, but not just for the installation. We scheduled a time for 4 to 6pm. The service representative arrived at 5:40pm. He looked over the tank/water heater and the flumes, which he suggested that they should be upgraded. He then put an estimate together that did not include the flumes, which was just over $1,100. I found this to be expensive and said that I had bought a tank and it was in my car. So he ran up to the truck, brought the book back down and turned to the page for customers who have their own water heaters. The price was just over $800. I still thought this was too expensive, especially for 2 to 3 hours of labor. The services rep stated that he had about 23 years of experience, so he should know what he is doing. I tried to negotiate, but he was firm with the price. I paid the $49 service, but no services were done. If I was initially given that information ($800 for installation) over the phone, then I would not have scheduled the appointment and wasted my time.

We discovered our water shut-off valve was leaking in our den on a Sunday night, soaking the carpet. When we shut the valve off, the leak got worse. Called another local company who we had a service plan with - they told us all their technicians were booked that evening and we'd have to wait till the morning (so much for the service plan). Called Bell Plumbing and Heating; they returned my call immediately and had a technician out to our house within the hour. Jim was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a quote to fix the current valve as well as to replace the thing so it would be fixed permanently, which we decided to do. He was thorough and professional, and explained everything he was doing as he worked (my husband shadowed him the entire time, so he gets an A+ for patience also!). He brought us outside and showed us how to turn off the water to our house at the street in case we ever had another emergency. We have used Bell in the past; they have replaced a hot water heater, repaired an outdoor faucet, unclogged our floor drain in the furnace room, etc. I have been pleased with their service every time. I don't know much about how their pricing compares to others as I have only used one other plumbing company (seems all plumbing work is expensive) but I am going to stick with Bell from now on.

Overall, dealing with Bell was fine. I would use the company again, but I wasn't wowed.
Description of Work: Bell installed an A/C unit, a furnace humidifier, and moved the thermostat. The estimate was fine and the Bell staff shared information reasonably quickly. The installation of the A/C unit and humidifier went well. The installers showed-up on time and did a good job. However, almost 6 weeks later I am still waiting on my Xcel rebate and for the Bell folks to patch the holes left in the wall after moving the thermostat. In addition, I had to schedule a city inspection after the installation which was news to me. This additional step was not mentioned prior to installation and so it was an unpleasant surprise when the paperwork showed-up in the mail.

Since I was horrified by the Bell estimate, I called Landgraf Inc. on a neighbor's recommendation the next day. A technician came that day and produced a repair estimate of $385! The work was scheduled for and successfully completed the following day for that price. While making the repair Marty decided to also install a new shutoff valve, but refused to increase the cost as he had not mentioned that in his quote. I was thoroughly impressed with Landgraf and vowed not to patronize Bell Plumbing again. I cannot understand how they could justify a price over three times that of the successful repair?!
Description of Work: We developed a pinhole leak in the 2" copper main coming into our basement at the 90 degree elbow joint. Since this was before the main shutoff valve, a repair was urgent. We had used Bell before for a hot water tank installation and also furnace service, and believed their quality of work to be high. The technician was delayed because of a previous job and accompanied me to the basement. His estimate was $1,300 to replace the elbow, which I heard with disbelief. (Cost for estimate $49) Yes, he would have to shut off the water to the entire block and wait until the system drained to effect the repair, but that still seemed high. Because we would need to warn our neighbors, the repair could not be done immediately so I asked if something could be done to temporarily slow the leak or at least make it easier to collect the water as the current leak was spraying a 'thread' of water on the wall, which then ran down to the floor. He prepared an estimate for a rubber seal and clamp temporary fix which came to $228! I asked if wrapping the area with duct tape might also reduce the spray to drips which could be neatly collected in a bucket and he agreed "Yeah, you could do that,' so I did. ($228 saved!) He left after I paid for the estimate. I said I would get back with them.

Response from Bell Home Solutions
As this review was posted 6 months after the job date (and I noticed it months after it was posted), the tech didn't remember the job and I couldn't get details of why the bid was so high. My only guess is that there must have been a code issues that would have driven the cost up. The technician (who has been an excellent tech at Bell for over 17 years now) estimated over 6 hours for this repair. Or perhaps he had to go into concrete (basement foundation) to make the best repair? Regardless, I wish the customer would have contacted the office or the tech for clarification. This is an excellent long time Bell customer who lives over seas. I sincerely apologize - at the very least we didn't effectively communicate the cause of the high quote. I have reached out to him to see if I can somehow regain his trust. Greg Palmer, President Bell Plumbing & Heating Company

Bell is honest, professional, and have been around Denver for decades. They are ethical and their employees are seasoned and intelligent. I will use Bell exclusively from now on.
Description of Work: I was told by Builder's that they couldn't repair my air conditioner, that it was too old. Instead of bilking me into buying a new air conditioning unit, Bell fixed it quickly. Their estimate for a new one came in several thousand dollars less than Builder's who said the unit couldn't be fixed. They can be trusted completely.
