I requested a cost estimate on replacement of the toilet in our powder room. After sending an initial email to them via Angie's List, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from the owner within 20 minutes! We scheduled a time for one of their plumbers to come out and do the estimate the following week. He arrived promptly and gave me an honest and fair estimate, at no cost to me. In the end, we decided to do the job ourselves. But for the next plumbing issue that arises, or job too big for us to handle ourselves, we will definitely call Master Blaster.

I wasn't terribly impressed with them. I sat up an appointment and they never showed up so when I called them they said they were sorry and had a different day down which didn't really make any sense. They finally came over and showed up an hour after I had the appointment scheduled with them. Long story short, it was not that great so I did not end up using them. I had them look around the house but never actually had them do the work. They were fine; I was probably the least impressed with the receptionist when I called to make an appointment. She sounded kind of spacey so I was not surprised when nobody showed up for the appointment and that she got the date wrong. She seemed kind of like a flake on the phone. The guy that came out was perfectly nice.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Master Blaster Plumbing and Drain for a number of different things. The house was built in 1927so there were a number of different issues we wanted them to look at. We had low water pressure in a kitchen sink and tight valves in the wall.

This company deserves the highest praise. It was an emergency situation for us. We returned home late on a Sunday evening and discovered our basement was flooded. The drains had all backed up. I called Master Blaster and Ross answered the phone on the first ring. He sent Joe out less than an hour later to find and fix the problem. Ross was extremely professional and timely, and Joe worked continuously in the dark until he discovered the problem. He came back the next day to complete the project. He was a master at his craft (good name for the company!) and completed all the clean-up. He even did some extra wet-vac work for added customer service.
Description of Work: Found reason for lift station to basement water not working; repaired the problem; drained basement of excess water.

Update: The reason for the water discoloration was explained to me and this time it made sense and it is beyond their control. They have been responsive and I have changed my opinion. Old review: The first appointment went well, the plumber was on time and courteous. The plumber's van did not have the parts so he had to leave twice to get parts which resulted in a very long service call. The price was way higher than I am used to paying for plumbing work. After the items were installed they looked good. However, when we started using the tub it spouted out brown water. This continues to happen. They came out to check on it, at no charge, but said it is just due to high water pressure in my house. Since we did not somehow change our water pressure and the spout did not emit brown water before they installed the new parts I am suspicious and plan to have another plumber look at it.
Description of Work: We had a hot water dispenser installed in our kitchen, a new shower head installed and a new tub spout installed.

Hello Member, My employees and I thank you for your understanding giving us the opportunity to come by and look over your concerns as they are our concerns just the same. Though you did have high water pressure it certainly has nothing to do with your brown rusty water. This is simply due to separating an old galvanized pie joint and the discoloration should go away in time. Our experience with you has been a productive one and could not have been this way without your understanding. As a team you will find everyone here to do thier best to step up addressing any issues resolving them verses the alternative ignoring them. Angies List or not our most important asset to our business is you the customer promising you will be respected and treated as such. Wishing you and your family the best of wishes and a warm Holiday season. Ross Whitesel President/CEO

We recently purchased an older house. It was remodeled with PVC in the building itself, but the pipes in the yard leading to the sewer are the original clay pipes. One collapsed and backed up the kitchen sink the day before Halloween. The first plumber we called was unable to do anything; in fact, he broke off his snake in the pipe about 20' in. The second plumber punched nine holes in the basement wall trying to find the blockage only to discover that it was outside the house. He said it was a root ball in the pipe causing blockage. Their estimate was over $5000 (and they tried to get me to replace all the clay pipe at once, to the tune of almost $10,000; they also said that if I put off the work it would cost more), so I decided to get a second opinion. Master Blaster sent a representative the next afternoon. They found the blockage and determined after a full scope that it was the collapse of the original clay pipe (they wondered why all those holes in the wall were necessary), gave me a significantly lower estimate for the immediate work and estimates for the work still needing to be done so I could budget for it and plan it when it was convenient for me. My sink was up and running the next day. I had been doing dishes in the tub! These guys are great. They are welcome to all my plumbing work from now on.

Everything went very smoothly. The work was done 2 days after the estimate, which was important because I did not have use of my drains. They arrived when they said they would and finished when they said they would. Only slight negative was that they didn't do a very good job of cutting or replacing the sod. That may have been because of the sod's poor condition or because the person running the sod cutter didn't seem to have much experience with it. They were careful to clean up and protected the rest of my lawn from the heavy equiment. Overall a great experience!
Description of Work: I had to replace old clay sewer pipe that had finally deteriorated enough to be unable to clear the roots. This was found by a drain cleaning company who used a camera to check the obstruction. I got estimates from three companies and went with Master Blaster because of their competitive price, responsiveness, and good reviews on angieslist. Master Blaster excavated and replaced the line from my house to the city sidewalk, approximately 50 feet. I decided to leave the original line from sidewalk to sewer main because it was in decent shape and greatly reduced the cost. Excavation included removing a bush near my house that was over the line. They also cut and replaced the sod over the excavated area and removed and replaced about 5 feet of sidewalk the line crossed under.

This company wants to please their customers so they go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied with the job. I was completely satisfied when they were finished. This was my first time working with this company and it will not be my last. Joe worked diligently until the job was completed in a short period of time.
Description of Work: Joe installed an American Standard Cadet 3 toilet in my upstairs bathroom. He removed my old 36 year old Montgomery Wards toilet without getting any water or scratches on my wood floors. He also put in a new shut off valve as the old one was not working. I was able to get a rebate from Denver Water as it is a water sense toilet. Joe was very knowledgeable about the toilets that do not clog up. This toilet flushes great! Joe was also wonderful to work with and someone I could trust to do his very best. I highly recommend this company for all of your plumbing needs.

The estimate was $3600. They were late in coming out and they seemed real reluctant to actually want to do the work. Their prices were extremely high for what they wanted to do and I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the people they sent out to do the estimate. I would never call them back again at all.

Hello Member, The scope of work asked to be done along with the 2-hour travel time there and back on a good day with no traffic off the beaten path in the mountains were alll considered in the free estimate we provided you. We did arrived outside the original APPROXIMATE window we scheduled to arrive in and kept you informed in advance with ample notice as promised which does happen from time to time yet does not make us late. Upon providing you a very fair estimate you asked for a much lower estimate in return you would not report on Angies List telling everyone that we are a company that overcharges. We responded that we certainly don't want evryone to believe we provide free service nor be threatened with a negative Angies report as your bargaining chip in return for reducing our estomate in half as you obviously followed through with here. Our experience with you is also in part our decision to enforce strict guidelines to our service area which no longer includes yours. See "services performed" above for this story. The only good thing about this experience was that the plumbing tech was at least polite throughout his service call. The overall "experience rating" includes not only the plumbing tech, but also the admin/scheduler who totally disregarded my requests. The owner of the company did acknowledge this tech was a new hire from RotoRooter and that he would try and instill in all new hires among other things, the need to not make messes and clean up after themselves. ***also, when I was looking for another company to address the job left by the tech, I was informed that the MasterBlaster plumber owner (who a lot of the write ups were about) was trying to expand his company too fast. I wasn't going to make a report on Angies List because based on the ratings of other consumers, I thought my experience was a fluke. But, I decided to make a report so others would have a heads up and could advocate to not have my experience repeated in theirs. Consumer beware that Angies List can provide a false sense of security, as to what one might actually end up with. I had never heard of MasterBlaster until looking up on Angies List. And I chose to find a plumber on Angies List to avoid what I ended up having to deal with ultimately.
Description of Work: Repair leak base of toilet/replace parts running toilet..... I contacted this company based on previous Angies List ratings. I spoke directly to admin and made very clear I wanted a licensed plumber to come out to address my needs and explained why, including I didn't want to have to worry about not getting everything addressed that might be causing the leak and end up with issues not taken care of. I was ensured over and over a licensed plumber would come out. Also, as far as pricing, I was told I would have a choice between hourly or flat service fee when the licensed plumber came out. Well, they ended up sending out a tech who had just been working with them about 1 month who just came from RotoRooter. He also didn't give me a choice of hourly vs. flat job rate. This person couldn't even find water shut off valve to home. Because he was having difficult finding it in my basement and such, he insisted it was outside. He kept saying it would be near water meter outside. I kept insisting there's no meter because I paid flat rate for water. To try and facilitate him finding water shut off outside, given his insistence it wasn't inside, I went outside with him. We ended up getting locked out and I needed to call a locksmith to let us back in. That was an extra $130 plus to this whole ordeal. The shut off to water in home ended up being in basement where we started. The plumbing tech also needed me to walk him through where the leaking was coming from in the bathroom. He was first insisting it was just from some spray inside tank that had been contained by the lid. When he opened the lid, yes some spray came out. But, that wasn't the only source of leak. This person also left my bathroom a mess, including dirty finger prints on the toilet and the external parts replaced; placing damp, dirty towel on a light blue carpet; and placing old parts replaced in an unlined trashcan in the bathroom. I was left to clean up this mess myself. The owner of the company did call me regarding this bad experience and offered to send out the plumber (admin person I spoke with to arrange the service in the first place (who disregarded my request to send out a licensed plumber, etc) to address my concerns and also to take care of another toilet in my home while he was there at no cost. Because this person already showed disregard for my needs in the first place when I placed the call to send out a licensed plumber and the bad experience I had with this tech overall, I didn't feel up to possibilty of even further bad experience. I ended up calling another plumbing company to redo what the plumbing tech from MasterBlaster did. This adds another $200 plus to getting my toilet and related plumbing taken care of.

Response from Master Blaster Plumbing & Drain LLC
Hello Member, I apologize for not responding as promptly as one might have expected. In light of your report every employee here, myself included, has paused to digest everything on this report and what took place before, during and after your service call. In part, as a team, each one of us takes responsibility for everything that happened here while ultimately as President/CEO I take full responsibility. This has been a wake-up call and a learning experience that has already improved everything here in question making us even a stronger team and better company than we were yesterday. For that I thank You Member!  Actions have since been taken addressing everything in mention focusing on the “Clarity” of our perceptions and communication which seem to be the seed of these issues.  I’ll address these issues in mention; Outside your understanding every technician working here is licensed whether an Apprentice, Journeyman or Master Plumber. Again “Clarity” is to blame as our dispatcher sees every technician here as licensed yet when you asked our technician if he was licensed he replied no without giving this a second thought assuming you were asking him if he is a “Licensed Master Plumber”. This of course leaving you the sense that your specific request for a “Licensed Plumber” was in you words “Disregarded my request” when in fact he did not.  For obvious reasons we were also surprised with these allegations considering the technician in question is a 13-year licensed veteran apprentice. Regardless, after extensive discussion and meetings your technician in question is under strict supervision and guidelines to what he can and can’t do in the field from this point forward avoiding what happened here. Again “Clarity” plays a role here. By us assuming his skill set we failed both our technician and you our customer. A new system is in now in place validating everyone’s skill set.  I truly am sorry you felt the need to deny us any opportunity whatsoever to redeem ourselves making things right, let alone a quick visit to talk in person to confirm and view things from your perspective. I must admit I found it very disturbing the canceling several appointments we made to address this matter especially after the many conversations and emails we all shared over the couple of weeks. Every company will make mistakes they can either ignore or improve themselves as we do. We capitalize from our mistakes. With this in mind mistakes can and will happen, how a company handles issues should be given more weight when choosing a Service Company. I can assure you if a business is growing in this economy based on word of mouth only for almost 9-Years such as ours It’s our efforts in solid customer service to blame. We keep customer service front and center. Our 9-year track record speaks for itself.  Having personal knowledge of the independent plumber you hired whom mentioned my company is growing too fast has been in business just a year. Running a business for a year verses 9 years gives me doubt he has enough experience to even gauge such an opinion. Honestly my business is growing by itself and I’m growing with it doing whatever it takes caring for my customers.  Being locked out of the house during this service call for 1-1/2 hours could have certainly been the salt in the wound here which is completely understandable especially when the locksmith candidly implied this was an ongoing occurrence. This alone could possibly be the seed certainly giving anyone a bitter point of view on anything related to an experience such as this. I thought it was generous and very thoughtful that our technician waited with 1-1/2 hours at no charge.  Last but not least I strongly disagree that Angie’s List gives you a false sense of security. The numbers are there with the way they provide you some of the best intelligence most referral sites wished they could. When it comes to Angie’s List it is second to none being one of the most non Bias referral sites you’ll ever find. I know this as many referral site companies call me with their sales spill. Businesses can usually buy or manipulate their ratings otherwise this/your report here would have never been published for several reasons – but NOT on Angie’s List. That’s why poor customer service companies don’t or can’t advertise on Angie’s. You can trust your investment with Angie’s List. Our experience with you in many ways a first for me as well. You might say it’s been unique. This is truly not the norm for any good rated company on Angie’s List especially if their allowed to advertise. Regardless Member at the end of the day I am sincerely thankful you came forward publishing this report. This has truly made a difference in our perception and communication while we strive for our best. Today we are a better company than yesterday because of you! I do understand that you may never call us again, and for that I’m sorry. Thank you Member! Ross Whitesel President/CEO

I called MasterBlaster because I was having a problem with water leaking into the crawlspace where my furnace is located, causing the furnace to malfunction. I was concerned that the problem was with one of the hot water lines, which would have led to an potentially expensive repair job. When Joe arrived, he checked out the area around the furnace and was unable to find any evidence of leaking pipes in that area, despite extensive examination. It turned out that the problem was actually a leaking pipe under my kitchen sink, which was draining into the crawlspace. Joe fixed the problem quickly and efficiently. He did a terrific job of keeping me informed of all of his actions, both during the inspection of the crawlspace and while he was fixing the pipes. I felt like he was just as happy as I was that the problem wasn't more serious. I give Joe an A+++ for professionalism, skill, and customer service. In addition, the cost of the service was much lower than I expected. I would absolutely recommend MasterBlaster to anyone needing any kind of plumbing work done!

I did a considerable amount of my own research and chose the size and type of water heater. I then had three companies send someone out to inspect our situation and prepare a bid. Somewhat to my surprise, two other installers I approached were slow in giving me a quote and I wonder if they were put off by my request for particular brand and capacity. One felt the unit I wanted was simply not available in the Denver area. Ross at Master Blasters was helpful and in fact suggested I check out the possibility of special order at Home Depot to obtain the water heater I wanted. That worked well. Ross gave me the choice of ordering the unit myself or letting him do it. I let him place the order with Home Depot, pick it up and install it. Home Depot had the water heater here in about a week. The modest downside is that I knew Home Depot's price to me for the water heater; $786. Master Blasters charged me $1,337 "total parts". Now, part of that had to be fittings, supplies and tax, and I think Master Blasters is due a reasonable profit on the water heater itself, but the markup appears to be fifty percent or more. I consider that a bit excessive. The installation was professionally done, as scheduled and we have had no problems.

2 weeks into owning a new (for us) house and the drain backs up. Plumber (not masterblaseter) comes out, and tells us we need a new main line. I gathered 4-5 estimates, and the prices were all over. MasterBlaster was on the low end of the price, but the high end on professionalism. They scheduled the work within 2 days of my authorization, and had the project done in a day. No problems since.

Please forgive me for this much overdue response. No excuses here! Over the last couple of days I have been researching your issues mentioned finding that this all took place during a transitional growth period with my company obviously dropping the ball rescheduling another specifically qualified Technician. In short tankless water heaters need to be serviced by only those qualified to do so. We are now solid in our growth transition ready to accommodate any needs anyone may have. I will be contacting you regarding your tankless water heater offering you a free visit that will include any troubleshooting issues and will do my best to redeem ourselves. I will offer you with an undisclosed discounted service on your tankless water heater or otherwise equal value towards any other plumbing needs you may have that justifies the extension of our customer service satisfaction policy to the experience you received in mention. Description of Work: Preventive maintenance/cleaning was performed on outside sewer lines. Advice was given on maintaining inside lines.

They were able to detect the problem that other plumbing companies could not and made recommendations for inexpensive maintenance of the problem. I would definitely use these people again.
Description of Work: The came out and did a camera inspection of my sewer line. They were very bright, personable and professional. They inspected the part of the sewer line that goes into the house from the outside access.

This company has been terrific to work with........ from day one when I spoke with Greg who answered the initial call, to receiving a quote from Trevor (after hours on a Friday night), to clarifying the work needed and receiving an amended quote, to Diego and his crew performing the work. While we waited for the inspector, Diego and his crew where very gracious and professional in answering all my questions regarding the work they were doing. The work began on time and the cleanup was perfect. I have recommended this company to all my family and friends and will continue to do so!
Description of Work: Excavated aproximately 4' x 12' section of the front yard to replace a broken sewer line 8' underground.
