The serviceman was suppose to come out and extend a gas line to plumb in an BBQ. He arrived and complained that he couldn't do any work because Xcel energy was there relocating my gas meter from the basement to the outside. They were also putting in a new main line to the meter. The serviceman was complaining that he had to park so far away and wouldn't be able to get his tools close by. When I explained that the driveway was clear and the Xcel guys would move their trucks to let him in, he just came up with another excuse about not being able to work while Xcel is there. I finally said fine and have him just give me an estimate for the work so I can schedule the work for another time. He then proceeded to give me a ridiculous estimate that would have me paying him more than $200 an hour. That estimate did not include materials either, it was just labor. It was obvious the guy didn't want to do the work as he came up with more excuses and did or say whatever he had to in order to discourage me from pursuing it. I was happy to oblige.

On my first email contact with this company, I described in detail the small sprinkler line rerouting project that we needed help with. As promised on their site, they replied to me within a 2-hour window; this was impressive as the other companies I contacted replied more than 24 hours later or not at all.We scheduled a visit for an estimate. On that day I received an email explaining that they were overbooked and unable to keep the appointment. We rescheduled the visit for one week later. The day before that visit, I received a voice mail that once again they would be unable to keep the appointment and needed to push it out to the following week or the week after that. At this point, I decided to start looking elsewhere. The following day I received a voice mail at work one hour before our canceled visit would have occurred, saying they would be available after all, so I decided to leave work and give it another shot. The technician came out, looked at the project (which I had described in detail on my first contact), and informed me that they don't really do this kind of work and that I need to call a sprinkler guy. He then asked me if by any chance I had any plumbing work that needed to be done. Whether it was intended this way or not, I felt like their visit was more about a marketing call instead of with the intention of completing my project. I feel that the continued reschedules and their neglect to inform me up front that my project didn't fit into their scope of work lacked professionalism.

You are absolutely right. Outside the fact we had a couple of weeks in a row that most of our jobs seemed to take allot more time than predicted the first problem here is us not being exactly clear and specific on our service boundaries regarding sprinkler systems. Most plumbing companies have different boundaries as do we and sincerely apologize for leaving you feel like you had the run around. Your service all will be the main topic this week regarding CLARITY to our customers when scheduling service calls on sprinkler systems. Thank you for this report as this will fix an obvious issue within our dispatching system. Respectfully, Ross Whitesel President/CEO

I would definitely recommend them if you have a blocked sewer line. Eric was very kind and knowledgeable. Todd, their camera guy, was also very helpful and let me know what is causing our sewer line problems (ROOTS!!!!) and where the problem is located along our sewer line.
Description of Work: My sewer backed up and after having another company come out who couldn't seem to get by the blockage, my husband said I should join Angie's List and find a company there to try before looking at having to replace the line from our house. I did that and found that Master Blaster had received high ratings. I called and they where able to get out that afternoon and were able to clear the line. I also had them add some poisons designed to kill the roots which was the cause of the problem. Eric did a great job and was kind enough to show me how to remove the block that was in the overflow floor drain so, if needed, I could do it myself in the future. We will probably need to have part of our sewer line replaced in the future. So far they have the given us the lowest estimate. My plans are to have them do the work when that time comes.

Their process is to come out to inspect and give a detailed quote. If you have them do the work while they are there, the quote cost is applied towards the service. If not, you pay $60 for the estimate. Based on all the glowing reviews here, I was surprised by this hard sales tactic. They may in fact have good prices and do good work, but I just refuse to do business with businesses like this.
Description of Work: I called 6 companies today for an estimate to replace a 50 gallon natural gas residential water heater. Five companies gave me prices over the phone, but Master Blaster would not. I tried to explain that I was just looking for rough estimates, information on brands / models of water heaters they use, efficiencies, warranties, etc. and they still said they could not do it over the phone. I'm an engineer and provide quotes for multimillion dollar jobs without seeing them based on the specifications provided. If there is a changed condition, I understand that more money may be required to cover the change. Here, we are just talking about swapping a 50 gallon water heater in an open mechanical room - nothing tricky. If a vent needed to be rerouted, resized, etc. I could deal with that as being out of scope of the phone quote.

There are many many reasons outside the obvious that even an engineer such as yourself have not considered. History proves it will be a disappointment to everyone involved more times than not quoting prices over the phone. Most consumers are disappointed from beginning to end when their quoted prices over the phone change regardless if the reasons are valid or not. We choose to avoid any discouragement for our customers sake whenever possible by providing solid estimates in person. Our practice only quoting prices in person will simply not change. However, I am pondering doing free estimates altogether within our service area. Respectfully, Ross Whitesel President/CEO

I had a good experience with this company overall despite the few hiccups with scheduling and price. To make a long story short, I originally spoke with the owner, Ross, when I first called. Due to an accident my requested video sewer inspection got dropped from the scheduling books (or never entered) and only the plumbing inspection was performed the first day (4/27/12). The plumbing inspector was very knowledgeable and helped explain a few minor plumbing issues we were having and quoted us on some valve replacements. Upon leaving he was about to request a payment of 59.99 for a "trip charge" when the owner Ross implied the plumbing inspection was free. Luckily he did not attempt to charge me since the other appointment was lost and he felt bad. I guess I got lucky my other appointment was lost. The second price problem I had was the quote for the valve replacements. Overall, to replace a main shut-off valve, the sprinkler valve at the same location, and two other small valves the quote was nearly $1000 at $225/hr. Some people may be willing to pay that but that is over twice what my company charges for engineering rates (including the typical x3 for overhead) and feels like an extremely high price. I would not recommend that type of work being performed unless of course you are willing to pay for it. You cannot beat the video inspection price however. The final quote fluctuated with my reticence and you could tell the number was not fixed. Back to the sewer inspection...I contacted the video technician and scheduled an appointment for Tuesday 5/1/12, but the technician never showed. Getting a little frustrated I called the main office again and booked an official appointment which was put down on the books for 5/4/12. Finally, when the video inspection was performed the next week (5/4/12) it went of without a hitch, the technician was very helpful and I have a nice movie of my sewer line for about a 100 feet. Was able to see some grease back-up and hence the drain cleaning a few days later, which also was performed nicely and with no issues. Price again was slightly funny. Charge was ultimately $99.99 for the video inspection not the $79.99 quoted here on Angie's List. I had even asked the owner Ross, do I need to purchase it on Angie's List and he flat out said no, that is basically our new going rate. The video inspector did inspect my weeping tile line for about 20 feet to make sure it was still in all working order and didn't charge me so I guess that makes up for the extra $20 in price but still odd. Sewer drain cleaning was still 79.99 but I should caveat that it only applies for 1 hour worth of time and 100 feet of cable. Anything over and I guess the price goes up... I think the prices need to be more consistent across the company along with plumbing repair/fix quotes. $225/hr seems excessive but I haven't sought an alternative quote yet. Technicians were friendly and work performed was satisfactory. I would use this company again for video inspections or drain cleanings.
Description of Work: Sewer video line inspection performed on 5/4/12 with follow on sewer drain cleaning (snake) on 5/6/12.

Master Blaster is the only plumbing company I will use. After arriving home from 3 back-to-back business trips (only 1 day home between each 5 day trip), I noticed the presence of a sewer odor that appeared to get stronger each time I entered my home. After much searching, I found my main floor drain in the basement had over flowed and deposited food, grease and contaminated water on a large floor section. The food, grease and water was obviously from the kitchen disposal. What a smelly and messy situation to come home to...not once...not twice but three times. I contacted Master Blaster at 3:30pm PM on a Friday afternoon and received an appointment for the following morning. The technician, Joe, arrived on time with a wonderful pleasant personality and professional attitude. Most importantly, he demonstrated his professionalism by asking several investigative questions about the drain problem. He listened intently. Joe explained the problem and his solution. 30 minutes later, he was finished. Joe offered insight on how he resolved the drain problem and offered several solutions to eliminate the chance of future drain proplems. He also asked if there were any additional drains that required servicing. Joe accepted my Angie List coupon which reduced the service price to $79.00. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using Master Blaster for your needs. I received EXCELLENT customer service!!

I purchased the coupon from Angie's list for Master Blaster to look at my kitchen sink because it was backing up and leaking under the cabinet. After doing the diagnostic for the issue I was told it would take $590 to fix the problem. At this point the pipes under the sink were snaked and the PVC leading from the sink to the kitchen line were replaced. After the work was completed, we were told that IF the work he did not fix the problem THEN the company would send out a camera to check the kitchen line. This was my first indication that the first plumber was not confident in the work he had done but apparently was confident to charge me $590. When I got home from work I checked the sink to see if the problem had been fixed and it was the exact same as it had been before the plumber came out no change at all. I called them back and they sent the camera guys out who found out that the problem had nothing to do with the pipes that were replaced but that the kitchen line was cracked and needed to be replaced instead which would cost me another $2000 to fix. At this point I had already been charged the money so I figured I would call the office and they would reimburse me for the work that the first guy did since it had nothing to do with the actual problem and was under warranty for a year. I would have been happy with even a partial reimbursement at this point. They comped me the camera which was $99 and had to give me another $60 because they charged my credit card twice which overdrafted my account. Now I have to say that the girl in the office and the camera guy were very pleasant to work with and helpful but that being said I will tell you where they lost a customer and why I will never refer anyone to them for services in the future… Ross, the owner, was supposed to call me back to speak with me about my dissatisfaction over the $590 of warrantied work that was done which did not fix my sink at all. He did not call me and I gave him a week until I finally picked up the phone and called them back. I spoke with another office person who was also very pleasant and helpful who took another message for Ross as he would not give me his number to contact him directly. When Ross finally called me he was rude, insulting, raised his voice a number of times and hung up on me. He insinuated that I was a liar and was just trying to get out of paying my bill for warrantied services that did not leave me any closer to the problem being fixed than they did before being performed. He threatened to “take my house” which is not valid because I have already paid and was just requesting that I be compensated back since what I paid for did nothing to fix the problem. At this point I have not heard back from Ross after being hung up on and assume that I probably will not hear from him again. I caution anyone working with this company to do your research before agreeing to services. My sink is in the same condition it was in before I paid $590 for them to do nothing and when I asked to be compensated back even some of the money I was bullied and threatened by Ross the owner until he finally just hung up on me because I would not fold under his insults and threats. He is lucky he has other staff working with customers who are so nice because he would have none if his attitude and lack of customer service is an acceptable business practice.

Hello again, Well you followed through with your threat if you did not get a full refund. First of all you were not present whatsoever during this initial when your problem was addressed as you suggested. Your boyfriend validated and confirmed our actions during the process of elimination to conclude that not only was your pipes leaking under the sink needing replaced but you kitchen sink line was not draining and needed cabled. We cabled the line for two hours getting no where only then to advise you to camera the line and go from there. Your boyfriend called you at this time with the updates. You then gave us your credit card to run splitting the difference with your boyfriends credit card. About an hour later we ran the credit cards for the amounts suggested by you and your boyfriend only to discover you boyfriends credit card declined. We called you and your boyfriend several times for hours without any response only then to run your card for the balance leaving you a voice mail advising so. We refunded your overdraft charges along with the camera charge. This still not hbeing enough for you, you called me asking for a full refund expressing how you simply how you could not afford this because of further extensive repairs needed. After all the conversations you had with myself and staff you tell me at the end you are going to stop the credit card payment. This is when I advised I would certainly place a Lein on your hose for doing so. This was followed by new information claiming that my camera tech told you nothing we did should have been done in the first place and that when the leaks under your sink were first noticed we should have recommend a camera before doiNg anything at all. This makes no sense at all? There is a correct process of elimination to troubleshoot your situation that was exacted correctly just the same. After all the conversationsed that took place between my diatchers and myself with you, one might wonder why you didnt mention till the very end that the camera tech told you the work we did never needed done. The reason you never mention this previously is because it never happened in the first place. It's been one different story after the next every time we've been in contact. I wish you the best, Ross Whitesel President/CEO

First issue: Sewer backup - they were able to snake the sewer pipe and pull out the tree roots which solved the problem. This first experience was a good one. This occurred on 2/15/12 and went well. Second issue - late February: Hot water inaccessible through the shower head and bathtub faucet. The plumber spent about an hour trying to diagnose problem. He then left to go get a new part that he felt needed replacing. He returned about 2 hours later to install the part. It didn't fix the problem. He called in another plumber from his company to look at it, who could not determine the source of the problem either. He told me that it was due to my old cast iron pipes and that I would have to replace all the plumbing to solve it. The whole experience lasted about 7 hours and was not fixed. Note: shortly after, a friend referred me to a plumber he uses. This plumber immediately identified the source of the problem and rectified it. Did not need to replace all my plumbing in order to address it. While the Master Blaster service techs were very nice, I was dissatisfied with the experience overall. It took an entire Saturday and was fruitless. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: First issue on 2/15/12 - sewer back up. Second issue on 2/25 -ish: no hot water in the bathtub, despite the fact that I had hot water in the rest of the house.

After reviewing the company's website and seeing their ad, I purchased an Angie's List coupon for an hour of plumbing service. The ad in Angie's List stated the company serviced the Greater Denver Area and Entire Front Range. Fifteen minutes before the scheduled appointment, I was told Parker was out of the service area and I would be charged a $120 trip fee. I refused to pay $120 as I scheduled the appointment a week in advance and was not informed of any additional charges. I asked why I was not told of a trip charge when I made the appointment. I was told the scheduler did not realize I was out of the service area. If this is the case, then the scheduler needs proper training on the company's service area.

Your right, you should have known immediately that you were not inside our service area. This was our mistake due to training of a new dispatcher that simply did not map your address. Our technician caught this upon being dispatched to your location advising the dispatcher. For this I do apologize and has since been addressed and reinforced. We do service the entire front range yet is additional outside our standard service area. Again I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Sincerely, Ross Whitesel President/CEO

I just moved into a fixer-upper and am overwhelmed by the amount of projects that I have to do to make it liveable. When I turned on the water valve to the dishwasher - it shot water everywhere. Usually I would fix these things myself - but my list is so long - I decided to buy the big-deal $19 trip charge and bring in this plumber. The plumber showed up on time and was very courteous. Unfortunately - the quote to replace the valve was $250. I couldn't believe it. I was expecting around $100. I decided to do it myself - it took me 2 minutes to shut off the water and remove the valve. I headed to Home Depot as the plumber was pulling away from my house. I picked the top of the line valve for $8. It took me 5 minutes to replace the valve and turn the water back on. I didn't want to deal with this - but it took me $8 and 30 minutes total to replace it including the round trip to Home Depot. This plumber is way overpriced. I have had really good luck with Angies List Big Deals until this one.

I saw a lot of positive reviews for this service provider but I'm wondering if these are from wealthy or non researching individuals who don't know any difference. In my case, nothing was accomplished. I called for running water I was hearing and the very first thing the technician went to was a hot water heater. The price quoted was sky high (you can buy one and have it installed for half the price!). The unit is aged but was clearly not the problem. The technician was going to attempt to look at the leak but between looking at the crawl space (not a fun place) and some technical issues with the lock (wrong code?) he gave up rather than working further with the property management group to get into the crawlspace where the issue was. When I attempted to call him to the table on his advice as we were wrapping things up he got condescending and pretty much walked out the door saying someone more skilled with the water heater would be out the next day. He did not charge me for the time here which was the only highlight. I have lots of skilled people in my life but they aren't licensed thus not allowed to do work in my town home community but I did eventually find someone who was able to figure everything out in an hour. I will be cancelling the technician tomorrow with Master Blaster and not doing business with this group going forward nor recommending them. It's hard enough being a single female who doesn't know a lot about plumbing let alone getting taken advantage of for trying to sell a service not necessarily needed or the problem.

The plumber arrived within the specified time "window" after calling to let us know he was on the way. The replacement of the shutoff valves required a parts run and added time and cost to the original estimate, which is to be expected. Other than that, the job went smoothly. The plumber did a nice job of installing the new faucet with its accessories (pull-out sprayer and soap dispenser) and now we have a nice, new faucet and NO LEAKS! My only minor quibble is that the water control handle became loose after a short period and I had to find an Allen wrench and re-secure the handle.
Description of Work: We hired Master Blaster Plumbing to replace our kitchen sink faucet. In the course of doing that the plumber discovered that one of the water shutoff valves was leaking and the other one was the wrong size to work with the faucet.

had received estimates from 2 other companies about a leak from my upstairs bathroom into the wall of my living room. I was told the wall would have to be opened up and it would cost me big bucks. Master Blaster's plumber came and did a thorough evaluation and found out that I only had a clogged drain that had overflowed. he snaked the drain and then double checked everything. It saved me hundreds of dollars. On my second plumbing emergency, again Master Blaster found an easy solution for what I was told by another plumber was a "big problem". He came in the evening and was not grouchy or condescending. He did a good job and again saved me hundreds
Description of Work: First visit was for an emergency where the upstairs bathroom sink caused water to flow down the living room wall. It looked like a river! Second visit was for dripping pipe in the basement that ended up being from the kitchen faucet needing to be replaced.

Plumber arrived on time and appointment was for the day I called. He took a look and told me the best solution was to get another one and their costs to install it. He was quick and to the point. I ended up getting one and installing myself.
Description of Work: Used an Angie coupon for a discounted service call for a leaky bathroom faucet I was unable to repair myself.

I emailed Master Blaster via Angie's List and Crystal called me back within a day. Crystal was very helpful and pleasant on the phone and set me up with a technician visit to give me a quote at a time convenient for me. It turns out that their after-hours work is billed the same as daytime work, and they were able to send Joe out after I came home from work. Be aware that an onsite quote will cost you the price of a trip if you choose not to go ahead and do the work. If you agree to have Master Blaster do the quoted work, the initial trip charge is written off. Joe was very thorough and wrote down the long list of the items I mentioned. He inspected all of the existing hardware and provided excellent information or suggestions that were helpful in narrowing down the scope of work to be done. He gave me an accurate time estimate and let me know how much it would cost. He let me know that because of the amount of work to be done, I could save money by choosing to be billed per hour + parts instead of the usual per job + parts. I liked the price, and we scheduled an appointment for an upcoming Saturday. Joe was friendly, polite, and professionally confident; he was also very nice to my two year old daughter who wanted to say hi and see what was going on. Originally, we were going to have two toilets installed as part of the job, but I was able to repair them myself after the initial visit. I was worried that changing the quote would have an affect on the pricing or that they'd try to talk me into keeping my original order. On the contrary! They simply made a note that I didn't need the toilets and the price was reduced accordingly. Joe arrived on the scheduled date and got right to work. He was thorough and hard-working. He'd take a little time to show me what he was doing and asked important questions regarding my preferences for small details of the work. After he was done, he showed me all of the results. When he left, the work areas were clean and in order. Thanks Master Blaster!

Turned out that they just needed to ignite the pilot light. I spent $19 for a coupon that was supposed to cover them coming to the house ($60 value) and then was charged $60 for 10 minutes of the plumbers service to press a button. Overall, I spent $80 for 10 minutes worth of work with a coupon. So, I if I didn't have the coupon it would have cost me $120. I think that's pricey for 10 minutes worth of work. I called the owner and he was very short and dismissive. Wouldn't recommend them and will not be using their services again.

Response from Master Blaster Plumbing & Drain LLC
Hello Member, I do understand the frustration paying for a service that turns out to be a simple one leaving one feel as though they were treated unfairly as though the service held no value. This is exactly why, in good faith, we discounted our service charges to less that half. This still not being good enough for leaves me scratching my head? We did exactly what was asked and hired to do, charging less than half of what we quoted up front before doing anything. We did not lie, attempt to cheat or course into selling something you did not need nor try to make the situation seem like a larger or different problem than what it really was to make you feel better about your investment. The fact of the matter is it still costs a licensed and insured business to pay for the fuel, licensed plumber, advertising and many other boring expense details to execute a service call as simple as yours. And yes I was short and dismissive already knowing how this story would end as you made your point crystal clear with my plumber then dispatcher before me that you wanted this service to be refunded. Any further conversation seemed to be irrelevant and pointless when you became angry after rejecting your refund request. In time I hope you can understand our position as well. Respectfully, President/CEO

The person performing the drain cleaning was super, no problems with him. The company was also very responsive and had all the drain cleaning equipment necessary. This job went okay, and maybe the price of $160 to snake two drains is typical. When I asked about future work, the price quoted was $129 an hour. That's where I had a problem, and why I have doubts about using them in the future.

The experience was great overall. Joe was the technician that came out, and he was great to work with. The drain clogged back up two days later, and we called them and Joe was out that same day to run the line again at no charge!
Description of Work: I had a clogged drain, which they unclogged.
