Skyline Construction & Remodeling

We were contacted by the company and reserved a date and time to have the work done. The day before the appointment we received a confirmation call with the name of the installer. Julio arrived on time, assessed what was needed and completed the job neatly, cleaned up his tools and instructed us to let the caulking set for 24 hours. He did a great job and we are very pleased.

The description in the deal was misrepresented. They told me they would not be able to fill the hole in the wall; that they were unable to do any framing or preparation work. Further, they told me to find another company to do the preparation work first.

I had purchased a Big Deal for one day of painting. Company responded quickly when I finally contacted them to schedule the work. Initially contacted by phone, most followup and details was done via email. I provided several dates for work to be done and Eric from Skyline and I settled on Friday Jan 4, 2013. In between I had several questions regarding prep which I sent via email and received fairly prompt responses. As my home is quite small it was a challenge to move daily belongings and furniture to other rooms or the garage in advance of the painters coming but did so by Thursday Jan 3. That Thursday I received a call from Eric that they needed a bit more time on the job they were currently on so could we postpone till Sat AM. Although it made it difficult for me I agreed. On Sat AM promptly at the agreed 8AM time Robert and another painter arrived and I went through what needed to be done. They began additional prep for cracks they said they could fix which I was happy about. There were several other problems (window casing that was damaged) that also needed fixing. Walls had to be primed since they had not been painted in so many years and it became clear that the work was going to take more than one day. I re-prioritized what was being done - I needed the bedroom completed as much as possible (so I had a place to sleep that night!). A call was placed to the painters' foreman, who came out and reviewed what needed to be completed. Initially it was suggested that I call the office on Monday to schedule the finish work. That was not possible as I was returning to work on Monday. Robert, one of the painters said he would be fine with working on Sunday to complete everything, so a call was placed to Eric at Skyline. We discussed price and Eric honored the previous Big Deal price for an additional day with a small additional fee for the Sunday work. On Sunday Robert and Miguel arrived on time, I went through what needed to be completed and work began promptly. Some touch up was needed in the bedroom where work had been done on the previous day which was fixed immediately. The two men worked fast and when it appeared they would be completed ahead of schedule I requested that the small ceiling and beams in my dining area which had not been originally set to be painted, also be done. They agreed. At the end of the agreed day, all the work was done. Miguel and Robert cleaned up, vacuumed and removed all the drop cloths which had been placed to protect my hardwood floors, furniture and belongings. They cleaned small paint drops, and helped move furniture back to approx placing. The work is beautiful, everything is clean and bright. And I was able to get most of my home back in order Sunday evening so I could return to work on Monday. I am very satisfied with the job that was done and would hire this company again.

They were very friendly, polite, and punctual. When they came out to measure they were prompt. Unfortunately, I had to cancel due to an unforeseen incident. They were very nice in returning my money for some upgrades I already paid for.

They came and completed the job. However, I did not realize they were not going to sand down the area that needed repair. I had to spray the acoustic stuff myself to match the color.

Setting up an appointment time with Eric was done smoothly and he answered all my questions. Manuel was sent out and came right on time for the appointment. He replaced all the caulking in my bathrooms and kitchen and looks brand new again. I had Manuel clean the grout and he did a nice job there as well. Any questions I had, Manuel was able to answer all of them. I was really happy with the service provided by Skyline and would look to them again for any future work.

I used a coupon I bought over the holiday for $119.00 for 4 hours of drywall or plaster service. I provided the sheet rock. Julio was the representative that showed up to complete the work. He was on time. I was two minutes late arriving to the house and he was already there. i laid my own tarp to protect my carpet, but Julio brought his own plastic and tape. He went to work and I tried not to look in on him for at least an hour. At that point he had the skylight framed and taped. it appeared straight and I relaxed a bit, because it seemed he knew what to do. After four hours he had gotten to all the holes and repaired installed the sheet rock. He did not have time to get to the finish coat on the holes in the walls, however the sheet rock was installed, covered with tape and drywall compound. I wanted him to continue, but my coupon time ran out at 12 noon. I called his office to see what I would have to pay to have him continue to finish the job. His boss, Eric, said that he was scheduled elsewhere and they were waiting for his arrival. He did however offer to have Julio continue for 1/2 hour more , on the house, if it would be make a difference. I accepted, and Julio repaired a hole in the home office ceiling. I was not charged for the additional time. Afterward, Julio took about 15 minutes to clean up and depart. The work was performed well. I found the office management to be attentive and considerate; always a welcome surprise when dealing with a new company. I would use this company again.

Overall, the job was performed adequately, with a lot of room for improvement. This was the first major house remodeling job we've undertaken, and the most we've dished out money-wise on the house. The original bathroom needed a major face lift and after shopping around and reading many reviews across Angie's Big Deal, we finally made a decision and went with the Big Deal. I will say that on a remodeling project like this, I won't be purchasing any Big Deals. For one, the deal was for nearly a third of the overall cost. I've read many "bait and switch" reviews and never understood them, until I experienced it myself. Sure there was an option for the Big Deal price, but that isn't what is pushed, and is very standard for what we wanted. The deal price sold us, and since it is up front and not refundable, we were locked in with the contractor and had to make due. It may work for some deals, but just be careful and be sure you know what you're getting yourself into before purchasing those deal remodeling projects. I felt there was no room for negotiation after this as everything seemed to have come in as a "packaged" deal. When asked for a detail breakdown of the work involved, it was continuously communicated to me as a "packaged" deal. Perhaps this is common among the industry, I just found it odd there was no breakdown on the overall project. The allowances involved was OK, but I would have liked to look at receipts but apparently they "were back in the office" and I was never give a chance to reconcile those. When the day did come for reconciling for the allowances, I felt it could have been handled a lot better and not so much on the fly. Especially without seeing any physical receipts. There were a lot of tiles left over, thankfully I can at least return them for some store credit. We were first put in touch with Ron, who was generally a nice person, friendly, and offered his time whenever. The process began slow primarily because we were indecisive as to what we wanted with both restrooms. Once we settled on the one master bath the project took nearly 4 weeks to wrap up. As the project manager overlooking the remodeling job, he made appearances at critical stages of the project, ie, the start, the plumbing, electrical, and final inspection. Overall Ron did a good job overseeing the project from start to finish. In between, we were left with his workers, which weren't always considerate. I took a lot of time off from work during the 4-week period as I wanted to overlook the process and ensure everything was OK and if they ever needed my decision on certain things. A lockbox was provided when we were away at work. The electrical portion was perhaps the worse stage as they did not warn me or even turn off any of the breakers prior to doing their work. Our house has a very strange electrical setup, certain breakers control certain parts of the house, its not a 1-to-1 and as they were replacing an outlet in the bathroom, they shorted the entire house, twice. I had to run in their telling them they just shorted out the house, fearful that my data and computer did not get fried. They didn't bother turning off the panel, instead worked off live wire. To me this was very unprofessional, careless and extremely unsafe. Since this was my first remodeling project to the house, I paid very attention to all the details. Plumbing seemed to have needed a lot of improvement, as they left visible holes and gaps between the vanity & toilet and the dry-wall. The grout work throughout the shower looks sloppy in some sections and I already see some areas that need re grouting. The paint work was done rapidly and there are several spots that need retouching. Perhaps the best work done was the tiling. They perfected the cuts and edges and I'm very happy with that. In the end, Ron made sure everything was finished and that I was satisfied. They did not clean up after themselves and left all the tiling trash in my backyard but I told Ron it was OK, no big deal~ Lots of room for improvement for Skyline Construction. I hope this review can be useful for both the contractor and the consumer.

They did a good job and were polite and helpful when I bought the wrong type of grout. I bought an $89 Angie's List Big Deal for this project but it cost about $20 more because I had to pay for the grout. They came out in a reasonable time after I first contacted them.

They were very prompt. It only took them 3 days to start and finish the project. They came when they said they would exactly on time. One person would go and get the supplies while one stayed and demoed. They listened to my thoughts and concerns. They were very organized. The tile was set very level and the spacing was perfect. They were very careful not to damage my wallpaper and cabinets. They even found the exact baseboards that I had with new ones. Their work was very professional. All I had to do was pick out the tile I wanted the day before. They got the tile after I gave them the tile of my choice. I chose the grout color and they got it, too. My experience with them was great. I am thrilled with my new bathroom floor!

Skyline is the reason I won't buy a Big Deal on Angie's List again. These vendors sign up for Big Deals and then don't seem to be able to handle the capacity. I view this as a failing by Angie's List as well- they need to vet the vendors better and be sure they can handle the increase on volume. Skyline has been terrible at follow up. I will be disputing this charge on my card, but a proactive refund would be nice. I'd far rather pay full price than go through the hassle of a Big Deal again.

The window project went fine. Initially, measurements were taken, we were given a date as to when the windows would be delivered and installed, and it all went as planned. All windows and the patio sliding glass door were installed in one day. The installers were very professional and did an excellent job. We are quite happy with the end result.

The work done was done well, but I thought that it was done very slowly. I would have paid for additional time if it had been offered.

My husband and I had an amazing experience with Ron from Skyline Construction. He was with us from start to finish and was always available and respectful of our home, time and money. Everyone we encountered with Skyline was professional and caring. They allowed us to own the project and guided us through the processes that we were unfamiliar with as this was our first remodel project in our new home. I would absolutely recommend their services to anyone looking to remodel any room in their house.

Putting down the ceramic tile went well, the subcontractor did very good work. There was a delay in finishing the tile because of the plumbing repair. Also I was left without either toilet for a day, when plumbing of one toilet was in process of being repaired and other toilet had shutoff turned off so tightly, I could not turn it on myself. I am very pleased with the tile flooring and plumbing work that the subcontractor did and would hire him again if I could. However, the cost of the plumbing was excessive. I agreed to have Skyline do the work because I wanted it finished without delay and at the time was in mourning for a good. I will not do business with Skyline again.

It went great. It was obvious the young man was well trained. He worked straight through the entire 8 hours. I got a few tips on what I had done incorrectly in the past just by watching his techniques.

The man who was sent did not know how to explain why he couldn't/wouldn't do the work I truly wanted. he had many excuses. Are you reminding me that the service provider has my name to be sure you do not get a negative review. it didn't matter, but

I bought the special offer for drywall repair on Angies list. We had cracks that spanned pretty much an entire 25 foot wall in our living room, and a couple cracks on the ceiling as well. There were also a couple holes that had to be repaired after some electrical work was done. The person sent by Skyline arrived on time and did an excellent job repairing the cracks. He did a good job taping the cracks and applied several coats of mud/spackle. He probably spent 30 minutes longer than the allotted time and worked hard the entire time. I am very happy with the results.

Good experience! Crew arrived on time and worked quickly but carefully. They kept the surrounding work area protected and cleaned up afterwards. Very happy with result!
