It went great! It looks great and they followed through on all their promises. We were having it completely re-painted in the same time frame and he worked very well and cooperated with our painter, making sure the dust was removed so that the painter didn't have any problems, and he did everything in a timely manner.

Dear Valued Members, It was a pleasure working for this member. From the sanding to the painting, everything went smoothly. We re-sanded the floors and retorted them to their original state....We recommended a painting contractor from Angie's List (Olivieri Painting) whom we've worked with before, so, there was total synergy and the client was really pleased as they did not live in the area.

Dear Valued Members, This member chose a 5/8" x 7" wide, pre-finished, engineered floor (The French Collection by Garrison, Color; "Cafe"). We moved the furniture, and demolitioned the carpet, padding and base-molding. We installed about 2000'sq.ft.. We also installed a custom Staircase, including new balusters for their handrail. The project came out absolutely beautiful and transformed their home. Their friends are all envious!

Dear Angie's List Members, On this project, we moved furniture, installed plastic and proceeded to Sand, Stain "natural", and Finish the existing Maple floors...they were extremely "yellow" from years of aging and UV rays. We also removed and replaced some water-damaged boards. The floors came out beautiful and the customer was really happy with our work and professional attitude and work ethic.

Near perfect match to adjacent to existing wood flooring. Didn't think it could be done! Long delay, getting wood delivered by supplier, but Scott was very apologetic. Will need to apply mastic at opening.

Dear Valued Members, This member chose a beautiful, 5" wide, American-Walnut, Plank-floor. We installed the floors in (2) upstairs bedrooms, plus a landing/hall. The project went really smoothly and the floors looked great. We're really pleased to know that member like our work.
It was a big job because the floor underneath was unfortunately uneven. Who knew the previous owners used tile and even cardboard boxes to try and even out the floor. But Scott's team did it right using wood shims. This took a while and a good chunk of the expense but well worth it. While not every bit of the surface is even, i am very happy with the results. Scott helped secure the wood for me. it was an unbelievable price and beautiful. I am a little surprised, however, how fragile the wood was. It easily dents and scratches despite the layers of protective covering and while walnut is not the hardest of woods, it is still one of the hard woods. Scott's team did an amazing job with the flooring. I do not live in a square box. There are curves, doors, and alcoves everywhere. His team did a beautiful job on the curved edges and the transition areas as well. They were very neat and conscientious. I would highly recommend.

Dear Members, We actually received this member's call in August of 2013 and scheduled an appointment to go out and see their condo in Brentwood. The sub-floor was extremely un-level due to structural issues and needed to be fixed. Around a year later (July 2014), the structural issue was resolved, and we returned to see the work that was performed. We revised our scope of work and quote accordingly, however, for the sake of ease, the member decided to award their contractor the project. Although we didn't get the job, we're really happy that we were able to help this member with professional information, which enabled them to make educated decisions.

I debated whether to bother write anything, but saw the review below same experience as mine. Called for estimate to refinish floor. Scott was responsive, arrived early. My friendly ( and just bathed yesterday) little dog put his paws on his leg to say hello. He abruptly pushed him off " get off of me. That's not cool. Oh, I love dogs". Yeah right. Okay then. I said could you please take off your shoes? "No I had surgery". Do you have booties? " no, and then obnoxiously adds, " you have a DOG" ( I guess inferring how my just mopped floor could possibly be clean) . He shows me the bottom of his sneakers ( dirty), and walks around my house. Pompous, aggressive. The icing was, as he was leaving, " your turf smells". Dude, get outta my house. YOU'RE not cool.

Dear Valued Members, I had a 12:00 p.m. appointment at this member's home, however, I was a little early, so I called the customer to see if it was o.k. to come over early. When I arrived, the customer opened the door and her dog jumped on me. Although the dog was small, it scratched me. It didn't really hurt, however, the dog got my pants dirty. As I have had dogs, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it until the customer asked me to take off my shoes. I kindly explained that for insurance reasons, I could not, and asked if she had "booties" to put on. She did not have any, so I apologized for not bringing a pair myself. Aside from that, I assessed the floors and explained that they were too thin to be re-sanded. I showed her where nail-heads were exposed and drew a diagram on paper to show why the nails were exposed. I gave her a few options and asked her if she would like me to measure the areas in questions. As I was leaving, I complimented her on her yard and asked about the grass in particular, because it looked really nice. I asked what the odor was and was told that the dog uses it to do it's business, and that it can be easily hosed/washed down. I remarked how "amazing" that was and kindly said goodbye.

I described the project over the phone to Scott, and he started off from what I perceived to be a combative position and immediately decided that he would not do the project - no matter what the scope would be. It was a small area of flooring (an L-shape near the kitchen, most of it only slightly wider than my foot). He said that all of the flooring in the area would need to be re-sanded and finished, and when I expressed that I was potentially open to this, he still refused to consider doing the job - without even taking a look at it. He said someone else would surely do it, but that his "standards" are too high and that he's a "preservationist." So, he just left me hanging. I'm in a professional services industry, and I found this interaction off-putting. I cannot speak to the quality of the work thus have not given a lower rating.
Description of Work: I called Olde Tyme to inquire regarding replacement of a small amount of flooring. About 24 hours later, Scott returned my call. I

This is the third time I have hired Scott Schneider's company to work on my house. After the first job, I never bothered with getting bids from anyone else. I could not afford to install hardwood floors all at once so I have done it in stages. My house was built in 1923 and not a single floor is level. in 2011 the company installed 3/4 inch oak hardwood floor in my living room. The floor was so uneven that they worked over the top of the old floor and leveled the floor with plywood and luan which involved much sanding and lots of prep before the boards could be layed down. in 2012 I hired Scott again to install the same wood in my hallway. The hall is on a concrete slab and we had to hire a concrete contractor to fix the crazy existing floor. Finally we decided to install the hardwood in our 3 bedrooms. Alas, the original 3/4" oak flooring was no longer available in the color we had. Scott sent me to his supplier and I located an engineered product by the same manufacturer with a 95% match! As before I paid the manufacturer directly for the product and only paid Olde Tyme for installation. The room I use as an office had a 1923 wood subfloor under the carpet, covered with paint spots and a plywood patch. The floor bowed and the high spot was in the middle of the room. Rueben, who was the installer is a real craftsman and leveled the floor using plywood and luan. The middle bedroom was actually pretty level and installation was straight forward. The master bedroom had been an addition sometime in the 60's and the existing floor was 20% wood with a crawl space under it and 80% concrete slab which sloped away from the wood floor. The crew leveled the area with self leveling concrete and installed the floor. I have met two of Scott's crews over the years and they are excellent craftsmen. The guys are polite and friendly and low key. Other than the normal construction noise of sanding, sawing and hammering, I hardly knew they were there! Scott is a friendly and honest guy who is a pleasure to do business with.
Description of Work: Scott Schneider of Olde Tyme Floor Company just completed another successful job on my house. The most recent project was the installation of hardwood engineered oak floor in 3 bedrooms.

Scott came out to give us an estimate on installing new flooring in our kitchen and family room. He was easy to get a hold of and gave us some preliminary information over the phone. When Scott arrived I explained that I had damage to my existing floor and wanted to replace it. He examined the floor and showed me that the damage was not permanent and that it was actually something I could remedy myself with a few materials from Home Depot. Instead of having to pay a a few thousand dollars for new flooring, I was able to restore the floor myself for a few hundred dollars. I just cannot say enough about Scott's honesty and professionalism. In this day and age who sacrifices a lucrative job for the benefit of the customer? Scott does. He drove all the way out from the Valley to the South Bay early in the morning to accommodate our schedule and after all that he was still nice enough to tell me that I could salvage my floor and save all that money. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone reading this review.

I was getting estimates for installation of hardwood floors. We set an appointment for Scott to come out and I was called away before he arrived. He did the measurements and sent over the quote. The next day he called to see if I was around so he could come by and talk about the quote in person. I was very impressed by the extra effort. He was unable to do the very large job within my budget (nor was the person I went with) but he spoke very highly of his competition. I was impressed by this also. The man said I should read things more clearly because this big deal is for 500 square feet of work. I mentioned that I had not seen that in the coupon. He continued to reiterate that he came all the way from the valley. He said that this was out of his service area, and I believe he should have stated that before coming out to my home. He should put on the coupon exactly what the coupon is for. If the coupon says it's $199.00 for $500.00 worth of service and the provider says that it was more of a coupon for $500.00 towards $1,500.00 of work, I believe that this is not a good business practice.

Recently, I was faced with hiring a new company to install hardwood floors throughout a 3,700 SF home I built in Pacific Palisades, CA. Having joined Angie's List this past December, I figured I would try it out. I met with, and got bids from, 4 different companies that I found on AL. One of the people I met with was Scott Schneider, the owner of Olde Tyme Floor Company. I found Scott to be extremely responsive, professional, and knowledgable about the product options in the marketplace. For those reasons, along with a great bid submission, I decided to hire Olde Tyme Flooring for the job. Long story short, the job got done ahead of schedule and thanks to Scott's guidance, we couldn't be happier with the wood floor we selected (French Connection by Garrison). Another important piece of advice....make sure you find someone that is dependable and responsive as well. It is vital that you work with someone that you can reach out to with any questions or concerns throughout the process or thereafter. Having dealt in the past with a flooring guy that I couldn't get in contact with after he installed the floors...working with Scott and Old Tyme was the exact opposite...quite the relief. I recommend Old Tyme, they did a great job and the floors look excellent.

I hired Old Tyme Floors after a flooring contractor ruined my original floors. Other companies told me that my floors could not be leveled, but Old Tyme skillfully leveled the floors in multiple places throughout my house and custom-made the transitions into the bathrooms and kitchen to make them seamless. They also secured with nails (lots of them) the sub-floor to insure the flooring would not squeak. I appreciated the skill and attention to detail. It was also done in a few days! Dear Valued Members, This member had an island in the kitchen which was moved. They needed to have a section of flooring "laced-in" where the flooring was missing. I explained to the customer that the new flooring was thicker than the existing floors and that the whole room would need to be re-sanded in order to get the new flooring flat with the existing floors. I also explained that it would be would be difficult to match the color and finish as the repair was right in the middle of the room where it would be easily seen. As we have tried to make such repairs in the past without perfect results, we decided that if we cannot perform the work as recommended (per the rules of the NWFA or National Wood Flooring Association), we would decline such projects, so I suggested that they ask for a refund.

They were polite, professional, on time, and fulfilled all the terms off the contract. Scott takes pride in his work, is honest, and has a good work ethic. I could not ask for a better experience.
Description of Work: Restored a wood floor that was long overdue for refinishing. Scott, the owners son, was on time for the estimate and provided a professional and thorough evaluation of the condition of the floor and the results I could expect. He described their overall approach and his assessment of my particular situation. He provided a competitive price and I signed a contract. He and his team showed up on time for each phase of the job which required three visits. They carefully moved furniture, hand sanded about 800 sq ft of flooring, applied two coats of polyurethane, put new protective pads on each leg of furniture, and placed the furniture as they found it. The results exceeded my expectations and I have received numerous compliments on the results.

Job went very well. My wife and I were out of town for most of the time, but Scott & crew were comfortable with staying connected via phone conversations. I was able to come back to approve the new stain color and then simply come home a few days later to find the job perfectly done and furniture back in place. Very painless. Dear Valued Angie's List Members, When I initially went out to meet the members, I measured the areas that they wanted to restore. [removed member name] showed me a few areas that he was concerned about. I explained to him that we'd need remove and replace some of the damaged floor-boards. [removed member name] and his wife had several questions about where to store their furniture and our procedure, which I explained to the both of them. They decided to leave town while we sanded, stained and finished their floors. The floors came out really beautiful and both homeowners were really pleased.

After I contacted the service provider, he said they have a minimum sanding job requirement of $1700. I have a small foyer area and wanted it refinished - and $1700 would be outrageous to pay. I thought the $500 Deal would be sufficient. Now I have to start all over to find someone. I am very unhappy with this experience, because I explained to the provider that if I would have had a positive experience there probably would have been more opportunities for work since we have 3 houses. Also, this would have been an opportunity to provide a service and receive an appropriate review. I only gave them a D insead of an F because the gentleman was not rude. He simply said he had overhead, worker's comp, and he doesn't make enough money on small jobs to make it worth it. This, to me, is inexcuseable. I have a business and accept jobs of all sizes and welcome the opportunity to impress new clients with quality work. This is just a bad business decision on his part and wasted time on my part. I would not have purchased this deal if he had placed a minimum dollar figure in the language in the first place. The $199 for $500 of sanding/refinishing leaves the impression that you could hire them for a job costing $500.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List Deal for $199 for $500 worth of Floor sanding and refinishing.

We originally had a cleaning done by one of Angie's List providers. He ruined our hardwood floors in the Kitchen area. We have since made an arrangement for him to pay for the sanding and refinishing of the floors. I found the special on Angie's list for the refinishing from Olde Tyme and purchased it. When he came over to look at the job he quoted us $1800 to repair the floor which was way above our budget. He suggested we contact you for a refund. He was very nice.

Dear Valued Customers, I went out and measured the areas in question and provided them with a quote. Unfortunately, they received less money than what we could do it for, so they needed to use another company who could perform the work for less.
