they arrived on time. They were very professional. When I had questions they took time to explain to me what they were doing. The owner called and personally inquired about how I felt the floor was looking. They were excellent. They knew their trade.

On my initial phone call with (member name removed), she explained to me that she had used (2) prior flooring companies to install her floors, but asked them to stop as she was not happy with their workmanship. When I went out to look at the project, I thoroughly explained to her how we would perform the balance of the work. She was impressed with my knowledge and felt very comfortable in using us, as we have several positive Angie's List reviews. Our technicians did a fantastic job and the project came out looking great. (member name removed), was very pleased with our work, and she's now able to enjoy her new room and hardwood flooring.

This is a family company. Scott, the son, is running it now. He came, measured and spent time educating me about the process. He later sent a quote. We then decided to go with his company (we got another quote and the prices were the same). We decided to go with Scott's company because of his presentation. Job started on time. Job was held 1 day due to an auto accident but finished on time. Parts of the house not being worked on were sealed with plastic and tape. The house was cleaned very well at the end of the job with no discernible dust. Baseboards were in good shape at the end of the job. Transition spots between rooms were either refinished or redone - all done very well. The floor was given a natural finish (2 coats sealer, 2 coats poly). Floor looks beautiful! Both my wife and I are very happy.
Description of Work: Strip hardwood floors in our office, dining room hallway and TV room; seal and coat with polyurethane. Furniture was moved to another part of the house, felt placed on the feet, and at the end of the job, moved back. A wood floor kit was provided, along with in person instructions.

It was really nice to work for theses members, and the project went smoothly. They wanted a "natural" look for their floors, so, we showed them (2) different processes on how "natural" floors look. Ultimately, the floors came out really nice. Both the customer and I were very pleased.

I spoke with [member name removed] about her potential flooring project and gave her a quote, sight unseen, based on square footage that she provided me with. Unfortunately, our quote was almost double of her desired budget. I told her that we would be very interested in performing the work when she was ready. [member name removed] thanked us for our quick response and information.

** Most negative reviews are just p***** off angry people. Please know, what you are about to read is not an attack of anger. This is my honest review. I want people/independent businesses to be successful. They are a very important part of our community. I was so excited when Scott finally picked up the phone.... he quickly cut me off, before I could say a thing, stating he would call me back in 15min; I know he will deny this, but he did state 15min because he was stepping into a Dr. appointment. When I asked if I could call him back to leave a voice mail, knowing I was not going to be available later to chat, Scott said there was not point in "being redundant". Yeah, that made me feel awesome. Wanting to talk with him based on his reviews, I waited/kept my phone close by for an hour. He should have just said, "Sure, I would appreciate any info to help me get started on your quote." I waited an hour and he still had not called me back. Finally I realized, if he is this difficult to connect with for just a quote, what would it be like if I hired him. So, I sent him a stern text stating there was no need to call me back. Yes. It was blunt and to the point. It was not personal. Scott should have "let the sleeping dog lie". However he did not. He decided it would be a great idea to text me his oppinion of me, based on two sentences. If I can upload pictures, I will post the screen captures as proof. He should have kept it about not having an opportunity to work with me. He should have just apologized, for I am a very forgiving person. He made it personal = unprofessional. Scott's text: "With all due respect, I believe I mentioned to you that I had a doctors appointment. Going into the appointment, I had no idea how long it was going to be. However, by the harsh tone of your text, it is probably a blessing in disguise, as we do not like to work for people like yourself who jump to conclusions" We all know doctors move patients in and out as quickly as they can. He may have been in with the doctor for 20min. It only takes about 10 seconds to send a text. Sorry, Scott. No matter how you reply to my review, you were in the wrong. My reply: "Scott, point as many fingers at me as you please. It probably makes you feel better. This was not about your doctors appointment. This was actually about your tone with me when I asked, politely, if I could leave you a voice mail. You should have just said yes. That is all you had to do. We clearly are not a match. You sound quite busy. You do not need my business, it's cool. Good luck." Conclusion: Scott and I were not a match. With all the rave reviews on here, I expected much much more from him. Maybe he was having an off week. Maybe his work is an "A", but I will never know because of his inability to just be cool and appreciative of potential business.
Description of Work: Not even a phone conversation was "performed". Over a dozen vm and endless phone tag for a week, I finally realized this company was not the one for us. Out of 5 other companies I contacted, Scott was the only one whom I never spoke with. I will give Scott credit for calling and leaving voicemails consistently, but that is it. I applaud him if he is busy. However, if he is so busy, he should hire a temp service to communicate with his customers and set up times to return calls. Not once did he leave a voice mail to set up a time to just chat with me. In this day and age with our phones glued hands, all he needed to do was send a text, email or leave a voice mail that set up a solid time to chat.

When we received the first voice message from [member name removed], I returned her call the same day. I followed up with second call the next day and left a voice message. [member name removed] left us a second message (a bit inaudible), so I called a third time, the following day and left another message. I received a text message from her stating that she would call us back later in the day and thanked us for being persistent. When [member name removed] finally called back, I explained to her that I was late in going to a doctor's appointment. I asked her if I could call her back when I was done. By the time I could call her back (1 hour later), I had received a text message from her stating that she did not want me to call her back because she felt that it was taking too long for me to respond. I text-ed her back and explained that we'd prefer to pass on her project as I felt that we would not be a good "fit". If any member were to read our reviews (with work that WAS completed), they would see that we perform excellent work, and, are nothing but professional as we strive to make our customers happy.

Scott made sure my husband and I understood what obstacles he might find after removing the carpet. He and his staff were punctual, professional and even finished the job earlier than anticipated. He arranged for carpeting in adjoining rooms to be pulled up to meet the new floors. The workers made sure their work area was clean and neat at the end of every day. We are very happy with the whole experience and would recommend Scott and his crew without hesitation.

When I initially met with [member name removed] at his home, we walked all of the floors together. I like doing this because I always want to make sure that our customers know exactly what to expect from us. For example, I saw an area that was "bleached-out" and I explained to him that re-coating the floor would not address that specific spot. However, in another area, the floor looked "worn", so, I showed him what that area would look like after it was re-coated, and, as i said, the area looked brand new. Ultimately, they were very pleased with our work!

This member told me that he was planning on selling his house. He was very pleased with our work and told me how professional my crew acted throughout the project.

The owner, Scott Schneider, was very personable and good to work with. I contacted him via email and responded immediately and arranged a visit for an estimate. The estimate was in line for what I wanted to pay and the work was scheduled. On the day of the job, Scott and his crew showed up as promised and Scott instructed them to do a little extra work as far as staining areas of the hardwood that were worn. At the conclusion of the resurface job, the house was immaculate and the floors were beautiful. I will use Scott again to keep my floors in good condition.

This member was a pleasure to work for. When I first got to the house, I measured the areas and then spoke to him about the job. I showed him where the floors had been a little worn and let him know that I could fix them by doing a "touch-up" with some stain. I explained to him how the process would go and how long it would take. The floors looked "revived" and he was very pleased.

We worked for Member at his mother-in-law's house. We needed to remove water-damaged and loose parquet, and re-install the same flooring in one of the bedrooms. After we performed the installation, we sanded, stained (matched the existing color), sealed, and finished the new flooring. The flooring blended really nice and both Member and his mother-in-law were very happy.

Scott Schneider's company installed a beautiful hardwood floor in my living room last year and when it came time to do our hallway, I only made one phone call- to Olde Tyme Floor. In keeping with the condition of my house, Scott was presented again with a subfloor that was definetly sub par. My 89 year old house does not have a level floor or a straight line in it and the hallway was as bad as the living room subfloor was before he repaired it. Scott recommended a concrete contractor who came and leveled the hallway for a cost of $700.00. I purchased the wood my self through a supplier at a cost of $453.00. His installers also had to face a very difficult transition from my hallway to the dining room which was also not level. Because I I am not ready to redo the floor in the dining room they hand built a custom reducer between the areas that to the eye looks level but in reality slopes to conform with the dining room. No one would ever be able to tell without very close examination. The guys were very neat, polite and professional. Next time I need flooring done, I will call Scott again.

The member's hallway was definitely a challenge. It was "off-level" 3/4" in 3 feet, which was very evident. I put David in touch with a contractor that specializes in the leveling of concrete-slabs. The leveling was performed in 1.5 days, and we were able to commence the hardwood flooring installation. DThe member and his wife were a pleasure to work for!

Scott is very detail-oriented and went over the whole house with me for probably 90 minutes. I removed the carpeting myself to save some money and then he came over to inspect the subfloor and check the place out. He used a laser level to check every room and explained what he was doing (like the difference between a level floor and a flat floor). I really like to know all these little things so it was great for him to explain it all to me. He inspected the cork floors in the bedrooms and said they're good to install over because they're down really well, but advised using glue and nails. The rest of the place had plywood sheathing over diagonal sheathing and he marked soft/squeaky areas that needed to be nailed. The kitchen had vinyl flooring, so I removed the cove flashing (the part that curves up the wall a few inches) and they installed over the vinyl into the plywood beneath. The wood was delivered and sat in the house for a few weeks while our other contractors did their work. Installation took 4-5 days. They cleaned up after each day which was great since I was working on the house each night. There was an HVAC return on the floor which I forgot to tell them was not going to be used anymore, so they installed around it. I called Scott to tell him it should just have floor laid over the hole (which involved ripping up that section of floor and I think laying some plywood, then relaying new floorboards). It cost us about $50, but it thankfully didn't delay the job and they were cool about it. After installation, but before sanding, our electrician damaged two sections of the newly installed floor in the kitchen. OTF fixed these up for $45 (about an hour and a half of labor, I think). After installation the wood sat and acclimated for two weeks before sanding began. This is per the National Wood Floor Association recommendation. If you pay attention to your floor you can really see (feel, really) it move over the two weeks. We really wanted to get into the home by September 1 and in order to make that happen, sanding needed to be finished by the prior Saturday. This was cutting it really close from our original schedule, but they made it happen and were done so that I could get in and apply the finish on Sunday. After sanding and buffing they used a special vacuum to suck up dust, so the floors were really clean when I went to apply finish (I just had to use a tack cloth first). The only small issue was in the hallway that goes to our second bedroom, there appear to be sanding marks. This is a narrow hallway that is probably difficult to navigate a sander through. I noticed this before applying the finish and under normal circumstances would have asked OTF to fix it, but we were under time constraints (moving into the house while 7 months pregnant). I'm sure they would have fixed it for free, but I could not handle a delay, so I never mentioned it. Everything else is fantastic though and we get compliments from everyone who comes over. The floors also feel amazing under foot. There is a solidity that was not there with the carpet. I'll be using OTF for any future flooring work.
Description of Work: They installed, sanded and buffed 960sf of 2.25" white oak strip flooring. Leveling in two areas (approx. 50 square feet total). Three stairs. I applied the finish. The entire job cost us about $9,500: Roughly $6400 to OTFC for labor. I spoke with six firms and their per square foot charge was very competitive. I can't remember exactly what it was. Scott was lower than average, but the most competent and detail-oriented person I spoke with at any firm. The leveling added some cost and the three steps as well. There was cork flooring in the two bedrooms, so instead of removing it, they installed over it (with glue and nails) because it was in good shape. OTF uses a less toxic glue than normal which was great since we used a no-VOC finish on the floors. Obviously the glue and labor add cost too. About $2500 for the wood. (1060sf of wood for a 960sf area) Scott set us up with his wood supplier and I purchased it direct through them with his discount. Excellent price! I was looking at $2.19/sf from Lumber Liquidators for select white oak and I think we paid $2.29 from this supplier for American-made high quality wood. Every installer I spoke to warned against Lumber Liquidators because of quality and consistency issues. $500 for the finish and rental equipment. I used Rubio Monocoat 5% white and applied it with a buffer.

In fact I had to cancel my coupon with this company because I was located to faraway from them for the small patch job that I needed. Nevertheless I had a very informative discussion over the phone with the owner and he gave me some very good advice that really help me. Besides, he did reassured me that if I really did not find anybody appropriate to call him back. If I have a bigger job to do in the future I will certainly give him a call.
Description of Work: To accomodate a new oppening in a wall I had to switch a 36" kitchen base cabinet against the wall with a 24" kitchen base cabinet that was incorporated in the kitchen island. This transition discover a band of bare floor in front of the new opening until the island of 1 feet by 4 feet long. I wanted it to match the old hard wood floor that sits next to it. So not only installing it with hardwood but with a matching old red oak 1" wide plank hardwood.

The member's project went extremely smooth. We moved the furniture and demolitioned the old carpet, padding, "tack-strip". We also demolitioned a section of Oak-flooring and plywood. We used a grinder to clean the concrete-slab and then used an "eco-friendly" moisture barrier. She picked a beautiful Oak, plank-flooring from my supplier. We also supplied and installed new base-molding. Her house was totally transformed and she was extremely happy. The member referred our company to a friend of hers.

I met with 4 other companies before I decided to go with Olde Tyme Floor Co. & I couldn't be happier with my decision. I was just never completely comfortable with the price or the representatives from the other companies that I met. I immediately felt comfortable with & confident in Scott Schneider, the owner of Olde Tyme Floor Co. Each of the other companies wanted to sell me engineered wood because presumably their bid would come in lower which would ultimately give them a better chance of getting my business. The first thing that Scott told me was that he can almost always deliver real hardwood for no more money than the other companies were quoting for engineered wood. Scott was right - the all-in cost actually came in lower than the other bids & we got beautiful real hardwood floors. And not just any real hardwood floors; I got to pick out the exact brand, type of wood, finish, color, etc. that I wanted. I also liked working with Scott because, as a family owned business, the company is small enough so that the owner is actually intimately involved with every step of the job, but then you also get the benefit of working with a sophisticated and experienced 2nd generation family business. I also like that Scott's crew members are his actual employees. In other words, Scott does not sub-contract out the installation like some of the other companies. Scott's team is very professional & experienced. Some of Scott's employees have been with the company for 20+ years. Every step of the job went very smoothly - from the initial meeting, to the bid, to choosing the hardwood floor, to the demolition, to the prep work, to the layout design, to the installation, and then finally to the clean up. So, needless to say, I highly recommend Olde Tyme Floor Co.

Being a compulsive researcher, I got several bids for this job. The bid was reasonable and on par with other vendors. What convinced us to go with Scott was that he was personable, knowledgeable and no-nonsense. He uses top quality products and has an efficient, hard working crew. He kept us informed every step of the way, stayed on schedule (maybe even a day under) and his follow-through was impeccable. He is a perfectionist and a man of his word. Anyone can talk a good game but Scott delivers. Exactly the kind of person you want working on your job. Can't speak more highly of his work ethic and the results that were achieved. Our floors are like new again.

The members put their house on the market to sell. The house went into escrow and they realized that after they removed a rug in their gym, the floor had some water-damage. As they both have the utmost integrity, they did not want to have any issues with the buyers, so they wanted it fixed. He was very polite and on time for the estimate. He said the only way to fix it was to pull other pieces of the board up to replace. I thought all you had to do was remover that one piece and replace it. I needed it done soon. It is not their fault that it did not get fixed. I would still recommend them.

Member's repair work was challenging and not a quick and easy fix; other flooring boards would have had to be removed in order to repair the damaged board. With this type of work, the flooring technician would need to be careful to not damage the existing floors.

Excellent job overall. Crew was punctual and cordial. Very neat in prep work, covering and isolating the work area with clear plastic tarps. Powersanders with vacuum kept dust from sanding to a minimum. Very impressed by how clean everything was overall given the nature of the job. hardwood floor looked great at the end. They even recoated my wood railings. They put all the furniture back to its original location, along with adding leg protectors to chairs to protect the newly refinished flooring.
Description of Work: major job in sanding hardwood floors and some stairs down to bare wood, then restaining it before recoating it with several polyurethane coats.

Member's project consisted of resurfacing the existing hardwood floors and re-coating a staircase with fresh coats of polyurethane. We started by moving furniture and installing plastic dust-barriers to isolate any airborne dust that could travel to the other parts of their home. We used a "DUSTLESS" sanding system which collects and minimizes the airborne dust that is created when re-surfacing floors; this system is great for three reasons; 1) The house is left less dusty and thereby more cleanly. 2) The finish (polyurethane) is clearer. 3) The clients & flooring technicians are healthier. The "DUSTLESS" sanding system is an additional set of machinery that has amazing qualities; This machinery was an additional cost above and beyond the costly sanding equipment. Ultimately, the Member were very pleased with our results!

I bought an Angie's List coupon for the company and the owner, Scott, came to look at the area. I had knocked through two closets to make my triplex into a duplex. One side of the hallway had wood going in one direction and the other side had darker wood going in the other direction. He told me the best way to fix the floor. The wood was delivered and was left for a few weeks to acclimate. On the first day of installation Scott came with the installer to make sure everything was all set. The installer took out the half of the floor being replaced, cut the new flooring and installed it. He did an AMAZING job piecing the floor and matching it to the existing floor. He taped plastic sheets on both ends of the hallway so when he sanded there wasn't a mess. He stained the wood and it matched the other floor perfectly! He returned 2 days later to apply the polyurethane. Scott also came then to make sure all was good. My hall now looks perfect. The next day Scott even came back to take the plastic sheets down! Great company with great customer service!
Description of Work: I had a hallway that needed hardwood floor installation because the wood didn't match.

We are very pleased that Member liked the work that we performed. Our flooring technician did a fantastic job chiseling-out and lacing-in the flooring to make it look as natural as possible. We also created a custom stain color ,which we used to match the new flooring to the older existing flooring. The floors looked really nice.

Member was moving out, and she was preparing to lease her house. She was on a budget, as she was doing additional work in the house. I explained to her that we use only the highest quality products; i.e..the polyurethane finish we use is "Commercial Grade" , so the floors would be more durable, thereby protecting her floors for a longer period of time. Also, we are fully Licensed & Bonded. We also carry Workman's Compensation Liability unlike other companies. Because we have these specifications, the cost to do business for us is higher than those companies who do not have it. Ultimately, the floors came out beautiful. Mrs. Hale was very pleased, as her house looked great, making it easier to lease!

He was very personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating but unfortunately it was just too expensive for me to move forward with the project at this time.

The customer's situation was unique. She had animal stains on her Dining room floors and wanted them repaired. The Dining room floors flowed through the house SO, all of the floors would need to be re-sanded in order to correct the issue. At this juncture, it was too much work which would have turned her and her family life upside down.

He has been very unresponsive and difficult to reach. He has canceled several appointments and fails to return my calls. He promised he would call me to schedule and asked for both phone numbers to reach me at. I never heard from him. He is very unresponsive.

I called Member to introduce myself and set up a date for an estimate. A day before the appointment, I was feeling ill, so I called Member to let her know that I would need to reschedule the appointment. I told her that I would contact her when I was feeling better and she thanked me for my call. Because I was sick for more than a week, I became inundated with the day-to-day operations of my business, and was overwhelmed in returning phone calls. The two times Member called me, I've returned her messages promptly. Additionally, we have been extremely busy trying to meet time lines due to the upcoming holidays.

Scott is very personable, friendly and truly interested in what you are doing. I had several estimates and Olde Tyme Floor wasn't the cheapest, but they also were not the most expensive. One reason I went with Scott's company was his ability to be creative. I had an estimate from Lowe's, and the estimator/installer could not fathom how to deal with a difficult transition from my kitchen tile floor to the new wood floor. Scott's team Cesar and 2nd Cesar were very good craftsmen. Cesar cut away some of the tile and installed a slightly inclined wood threshold which makes up for the one inch height difference in the floor. They also did a very nice job on the other difficult transition from my tile hearth to the new wood floor. Cesar and Cesar were very nice and extremely careful in putting plastic up over my shutters, ceiling fan and doorways to mitigate dust. They installed the leveling in one and half days. I think that was the hardest part of the job. Then Cesar and Cesar laid the flooring. I purchased new primed MDF moulding from Home Depot. I pre-painted it myself and the Cesars installed it. I spackled and touched up the nail holes the day after they were done. They worked for 4 days and every evening cleaned up and put their tools neatly into a corner of the room for the night. They both had a great work ethic and were very professional. A lot of pride was observed in the work they were doing. The finished product has made me love my house again.
Description of Work: Installation of a solid hardwood floor over an existing wood floor. My 85 year old splintered and extremely uneven living room hardwood floor had been covered with carpet for the last 15 years and was beyond repair. Scott's team installed a new hardwood floor over the old one. They spent a day and a half leveling the old floor with luan (very thin plywood) applied in layers to achieve level and then blending it into the old floor with a sander. They installed 366 square feet of solid pre-finished 3/4 inch white oak in a distressed style. I paid $2500 in labor costs to Olde Tyme. The flooring was purchased directly from Olde Tyme's supplier for $1500 and delivered to my house prior to installation.

I had contacted this contractor through the Big Deal on Angie’s List—hoping he could do some kind of temporary fix on some splitting boards. When I met Scott, I found that he had absolutely excellent references—outside of those on Angie’s List. Scott advised me that any fix would be temporary, and that it would be more prudent just to replace the floor now. Because of his references, I chose to replace the floors. His crew was absolutely A+. Since I was using a random grain wood, the layout of the individual boards was very important to avoid color pooling or boards that did not look good together. I watched as one member of his crew laid the boards out. He was meticulous at choosing boards so the floor would look good. The crew worked quickly and cleaned up everything before they left each day. Scott stopped by to check the work daily. The floors are beautiful. So glad I had the work done by this company.
Description of Work: Replaced wood flooring in entire house except for kitchens and bathrooms. My original wood floors had been refinished three times and, even though they were in relatively good shape, could not be refinished again. Since my floors had no severe damage and no termite damage, the contractor (Scott) was able to use my existing floors as a sub-floor rather than ripping out the entire floor. They nailed the old floor extensively to stabilize it and remove the squeaks. Then they were able to put the new floor on top. This saved time and money. They replaced all the molding with new molding. They also replaced all the molding in my kitchen and bathrooms so all the molding in the house matches. My original floor was red oak. Scott recommended a very good match using white oak flooring.

The Customer has a cute home that had old floors which squeaked and could not be sanded again, as it was too thin. We secured the squeaking floors with screws and nails, then installed a new floor directly over the existing floors. We then supplied and installed new base-molding. Her house looked beautiful after we were done, and she was very happy.

Although the hardwood floors were in very bad condition it only took a few days before they were transformed into the gorgeous satiny floors they are today. AND ALMOST NO DUST!!!!!!!!!! The process was seamless. One of the easiest and most satisfying transactions I've ever had. The Old Tyme Floor team made a very stressful time in my life a lot easier. I can't recommend them enough.
Description of Work: Refinished badly damaged oak floors in three rooms. In August I was going through some severe health problems that made it necessary for me to move from my home and rent it out. I had handymen prepping the house and they were not qualified to refinish the badly damaged wood floors in the bedrooms. Also they told me that the dust involved in the process would ruin the new paint job and create a real mess. Old Tyme Floor to the rescue! Scott Schnieder from OTF told me that their "dustless" process would leave very little dust and be "foot ready" within a few days. Also, the product they use is environmentally friendly so the odor would not be overpowering. The estimate was a little higher than I'd gotten from a few other businesses but I needed the project completed ASAP with minimal dust so I hired them. I COULDN'T HAVE MADE A BETTER DECISION! The floors are lovely. The oak looks nearly new with a beautiful satin finish. Scott also included a cleaning package with correct materials to maintain the glow. Potential tenants loved the floors so and I was able to rent my house out within days.

Working for the member was a pleasure. With our Dust Containment System, we were able to perform the work WITHOUT the annoying residual dust that accompanies this type of work. The floors came out great! Regarding the "B' for our pricing, our prices have not changed for the last 10 years, although the cost of doing business has increased. We only use top-quality, "eco-friendly" products. We are FULLY licensed, bonded and insured, and, we've been told that our Dust Containment System places us higher, above other flooring companies.
