Description of Work: Swept and repaired two chimneys. Installed two large caps. Removed and rebuilt four fireboxes that were falling apart. Emptied two ash dumps of thirty or more years of ashes. Installed four gas starters. They were a pleasure to work with. Although they were in the house for an extended time they were never intrusive. They were careful to lay tarps to protect the floors. They used large vacuums to keep the air clear. They picked up tools and equipment every day. There was no debris left behind. They always discussed with us any decision that needed to be made. Problems always had solutions. .

+ -1 moreThis company is VERY reputable & we were even more thrilled when we found out they were with ANGIE'S LIST! You can count on these guys to do a CLEAN SWEEP of your Chimney. I couldn't believe how clean the house was even though there were decades of debris built up inside the fireplace & chimney! Thanks for your professionalism & promptness! WE would use them for any property we have! Two brothers have been in business for over 25 years. One runs the office, the other does the cleaning, with even a top hat! Nice touch!
Description of Work: We originally had them do a cleaning. There was absolutely ZERO pressure but we were advised & rightly so that there were repairs that needed to be made! This is a 56 year old chimney that has had almost no maintenance done since it was built.

They showed up right on time, were very clean, and even trimmed some branches that had grown around the top of the chimneys to make it safer (they also had recommendations for how far I need to have the branches regularly trimmed, our area has weird regulations and they knew about them). Will def. use this company again next winter!

They were very accommodating in scheduling me, showed up when they said they would, performed the work quickly, efficiently and left no mess whatsoever. They communicated options to me with a good depth of knowledge and there was no bait 'n switch on their fees. They charge what they say they are going to charge .. no hidden nonsense. All in all, I would highly recommend them if you want to finally get your chimney swept that you've been putting off for so long!

Description of Work: They swept the chimney, $135.00, and installed gas logs,gas line already in place; $95.00. The price seemed a bit high, but the quality of the service was excellent. The chimney sweep gave us important information regarding gas log sets.

Description of Work: The representative cleaned the cobwebs from the chimney and put a clamp on the damper (which apparently makes the gas company happy). He also checked to see if the chimney needed cleaning (it didn't). The usual price to come out is $95 and the price of the clamp was $20. We had an Angie's List coupon for a 10% discount.

+ 1 moreThe office personnel were very helpful with the initial call and the follow-up call to set the time of the appointment. I had requested a call prior to arrival to put the dogs out of the way, and I appreciated that they did call ahead of time. The service was professional with no mess in the house. Tim gave tips on warming up the chimney with the gas prior to lighting the wood fire and several other tips on how to use the fireplace.

This time I called them to sweep one of my chimneys but when they took a look at it they were honest enough to tell me that it didn't need to be swept. They only charged me for the service call. This chimney is upstairs in a somewhat strange location so they took the time to explain the necessary steps that would be required to use it safely. They are knowledgeable, professional, honest, clean and courteous and they took the time to answer all of my questions. I will definitely use them again.

+ -1 moreExcellent work! Vince and Tim showed their expertise, workmanship and teamwork in performing this service. They were both very personable and it was a joy watching talking with them as they worked. Lesson learned: If a seemingly active beehive is present in the chimney, then there is a good likelihood that honey is present. The honey can be recovered and is possibly useable provided that the hive has not been sprayed with pesticide. (No honey was present in this hive...it had been "robbed".)
Description of Work: Chimney sweep services needed to remove beehive in chimney. After a preliminary analysis and assessment, the service was scheduled after allowing time for the pesticide to complete its action...approximately 1.5 weeks time. On the day of the service, Vince McCauley, the owner, and his brother Tim arrived to perform the chimney sweeping. They first covered the living room fireplace to protect against falling beehive as it was being removed from the top. On the roof, they then started breaking the hive apart for its removal from both the top of the chimney and through the draft door in the fireplace. Fortunately, the hive had been "robbed" and there was not much liquid honey that dripped into the catch buckets. After the entire hive, approximately 7 feet tall, was removed, Vince and Tim cleaned up the fireplace and installed, as requested, a chimney cap as a deterrence. Cleaning up was excellent...not a trace that the chimney had been swept. Outstanding work!

Person I talked to (Vince) was super nice, helpful and friendly. I told him that I wasn't going to book an appointment because another firm with an Angie's list coupon had a much lower price of $89.00. He continued to be polite - told me he would tell owner Vince about competitive pricing out there, and said to call back if things didn't work out with the other firm.
Description of Work: Received telephone quote on chimney cleaning/inspection. Did not have work done by this company due to price quote over phone being higher than another company.

+ 1 moreThe employee was very professional and helpful. He volunteered to remove the tv antenna and instructed me on proper use of the gas fireplace. Also, he also gave me some references for stores where I can find fireplace covers to fit my fireplace (the regular covers available at Lowes and Home Depot won't fit). I found him knowledgeable and helpful.
Description of Work: I had them sweep my chimney, inspect and test my gas fireplace (I recently bought my home and feared that the gas fireplace had been installed by the previous owners rather than a professional), replace the synthetic embers for the gas fireplace set, install a chimney cap, and remove the old tv antenna that was attached to my chimney.

+ -1 moreI called California Chimney Sweeps hoping I could get my chimney swept before a holiday party on New Years Eve but wsa calling just two days before. The goal was to get the chimney cleaned so I could rush to install my new gas log set in time for the party.They returned my call immediately and let me know they could perform a sweep and install the logs for me if I wanted them to do so but didn't push for a committment. They called the next day to confirm the appointment and showed up promptly at the appointed time. He was very knowledgable and I asked if it was too late to have them install the set as well. They happily performed both services (for far less than I was quoted by the people who sold me the set). They also gave me tips on how to start, let me know my set was missing a piece and explained why it was important to collect. Overall this was an A+ experience. Great service and competitive price.
Description of Work: Original work requested was a simple chimney sweep. After speaking with Vince, I opted to have them install my gas log set as well. This was done on the spot and with very short timing from call to completion. Chimney sweep itself was $110 and the installation was $75 which was less than I was quoted from the store that I purchased the set from.
