California Chimney Sweep

The work they did was fine. I bought a $135.00 service on Angie's List. I gave the technician the coupon and he said that it was not the correct number and he couldn't take it. I would have to pay him. I gave him a check for $135.00 and said I would follow up with his office. The check has cleared and the other $135.00 has been charged on my credit card. I have talked to 3 different people at their office and each one has said that they would take care of it immediately. I have still not gotten a refund. The original service was performed on 12/19/16. I have called 4 different times since then and just left another message now 2/8/17.

The service was absolutely excellent from start to finish. Very courteous and professional on the phone and in person, showed up on time and did all the agreed upon work for the quoted price - a price that I thought was quite reasonable. I have already scheduled further work with this company in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Excellent. He found an area around the chimney on the roof that needed to be repaired and he inspected for leaks since there is evidence of previous water. Very astute and knowledgable.

Vincent and his assistant were punctual, cheerful, knowledgeable, neat and thorough! The hat was a bonus!

Crew arrived during appointment window and were professional and courteous. Total time for the work was around 45 minutes. Placed a drop cloth for the large vacuums that were used. We have empty space around our chimney and no other covers for our furniture were needed. Also called out some potential issues with the roof around the chimney that will have to be addressed. Overall a positive experience, would definitely recommend.

Sadly, we discovered my fireplace is damaged to the point that it's unsafe to use. :-( it was no fault of the service provider and he was very compassionate and helped me try to find more affordable solutions to the problem rather than replacing my whole fireplace and chimney.

Clean, professional, and a lot of information for us to consider about how we build a fire, and maintain our fireplace. They recommended a new cap. Since the work was done in spring, we haven't had another fire yet. but their service was on point. (on time, in scope, on budget)

In 1980, square footage was added to our home to accommodate a Heatilator-type fireplace and utility room. My husband constructed the chimney on the roof of plywood and faux brick. It was beautiful. Fast forward some 30+ years - sun, rain, and wind caused the faux brick to fall off exposing the plywood to the elements. Eventually rain made its way to the living room ceiling near the fireplace, so I called California Chimney. This is a family-owned business. Vince, Tim, and Ean are honest, talented, and polite gentlemen. I wanted the new chimney to closely resemble the original chimney as much as possible. Vince suggested a metal chimney as it would last for many, many years to come. While the old wood chase was demolished, another worker cleaned the fireplace and flue. A new metal stud frame for the new chase was constructed. Vince suggested a brick-colored sheet metal frame panels which were fabricated by Western Sheet Metal. In California Chimney's shop, Vince's son, Ean, laid out and painted the grout lines on the sheet metal to match the new metal crown. Ean salvaged the rain cap arrestor from the original chimney which Tim spray-painted to look brand new. My new chimney looks fantastic - a real work of art. In addition, Tim noticed that the top edges of the two skylights were flaking due to sun exposure. I went to Home Depot and asked a very nice gentleman in the paint department what he would suggest to seal the edges against further flaking. He suggested Minwax Helmsman spar urethane. He said he wasn't sure just how well it would "stick" to acrylic plastic. Tim applied a couple of coats to the edges of the skylights. Tim also spray-painted all the vents on the roof for me. California Chimney is the ONLY company to call! I highly recommend California Chimney. Thank you Vince, Tim, and Ean for my beautiful chimney. Owner Vince and another worker showed up promptly (Vince wearing a top hat!), worked quickly and efficiently, very courteous and careful to move furniture a safe distance away to make room for the enormous vacuum. They used blankets/drop cloths to protect my rug, and when wrapping up even put a half-burned log in a grocery bag and placed it on the grate for future use. We had had issues with smoke back drafting into the living room; they showed me how to open and close the damper properly, and Vince suggested optimal placement of the grate against the back chimney wall to direct flames and smoke straight up the chimney. Grate placement has made all the difference. We'll hire them again.

This is my first time to have a fireplace cleaned. Tim and Doug were fast, efficient and clean. Their total time at the house was just under an hour. Tim addressed all my concerns. Tim showed me how to easily open and close the damper. He found the soot door in the fireplace floor. Tim explained the pros and cons of using wood, Duralogs and gas. I will call California Chimney Sweep for my next cleaning.

They seemed to be too busy and disorganized to get back to me in a timely manner. About 2 months went by before we finally got the appointment at our rental in Glendale. I think the work and inspection were OK, but they don't use email or text and are WAY outdated in today's electronic communications and it makes life hard for both them and me, I'm going to try the 1 other chimney sweep on the list and see if they're better, get a second opinion and then use them for the work if they have their act together better.

Showed up on time and did the work well and quickly. They were helpful in explaining things about our fireplace and things we might want to get fixed, but did not push anything on us.

Vincent and son came to clean out the chimney. They both were very professional and informative. I would work and recommend this company to family and friends in the future.

They did a great job on services agreed upon, they also made recommendations on additional services. The lead person spent lots of time with me when the job was done, to go over every detail on how to safely operate and enjoy my fireplace.

I purchased this on a "deal"--pay ahead 135.00/125.00. House is 40 years old; recently purchased and goal was to clean up/clean out. Would have helped if I had been told ahead about possible additional costs--regarding gas log fireplaces--that old embers would have to be replaced at an additional cost: $60. The Chimney Sweep team measured up to all the good recommendations on Angie's List. Very pleased with their carefulness covering carpet and using equipment on vacuum to protect from any exhaust of dust, dirt, etc. Explanations about using the gas log controls and lighting were offered clearly and freely. All communications since work was done have been positive. Suggestion for Chimney Sweep info on website: Indicate additional pricing for various areas (such as embers) not covered in the "deal" so that homeowner can be prepared for additional costs. For instance, Chimney Sweep team said the embers had to be replaced; their charge--an additional $60. If I had known ahead, I could have bought embers from homedepot.com -- $7.95 per bag. The team discovered and installed a damper clamp (to align with current code). Chimney Sweep cost: $15 additional. Cost at homedepot.com -- $2.25. If these higher Chimney Sweep charges had been listed on their website, I could have saved around $70.00 by picking up the needed items from a home improvement store.

They were very clean with their service and answer all my questions with great education that I was able to learn as they completed this great service. Tim and Doug provided excellent service in preparing our fireplace and chimney for the holidays and winter. The company was responsive to my initial inquiry for services. We scheduled a convenient time and they called to confirm the business day before the scheduled date. Tim and Doug arrived within the window of time they provided and concluded their work quickly and efficiently. Both were polite and friendly as they carried out their work. They took extra time to go over what was found in the inspection, what to look for in the future, and suggestions on how to care for the fireplace and chimney moving forward. I will recommend them heartily to friends and family and look forward to using them in the future.

They did a very professional job in good time left no mess. They were friendly showed up on time and were not trying to sell us extra services. Definitely recommend this company, I know we will use them again

Vince was awesome. He was on time and very professional. He looked at the fireplace and told me that the existing dampener was fixable with a cleaning and sweeping. Just having the dampener in place is already making a difference. The living room is much warmer. All that needs to be done is have the cap installed and we'll be golden. Thank you Vince for doing an awesome job.

They worked out good. They were a little bit late for their appointment but they called and said they had an emergency. I was very happy that they called and let me know that. I'd give their responsiveness a C only because they called and made the appointment right away. There was supposed to be a follow-up. I had called to check on some other installation if they were going to do it for me. I'm still waiting for them to get back with me.

Very nice job, clean and careful, professional and didn't try to sell me work I didn't need. Vince did a full inspection, said my 1940s chimney and the firebox & damper (which I replaced in 1997) were all still in great shape. The only problem were webs, numerous spider sacks and a lizard living inside the chimney. So they cleaned it all out, it looks great and they left the place neater and cleaner than when they arrived.

Thoroughly professional. Did not try to upsell unneeded and expensive services which is what some of these outfits are all about. Had great advice and recommendations. Will hire again. Thanks!

Vince arrived during the time frame he said he would. He was professional and thorough in his work. He also advised and pointed out problems with the chimney that would need addressing in the near future. I appreciated his honesty and will definitely will be using him in the near future to fix the problems.
