These guys were very good to work with from start to finish. I communicated with the company via email from the beginning and got the details I wanted. A few days later, they came out to inspect and wrote up a contract. And a few more days later, two guys came out and installed the garage doors. It took them about 4 hrs to do the work on a Friday evening. Both doors came out better than I had expected. The garage door openers are LiftMaster and both belt and chain drives are pretty quiet. I didn't have garage doors for them to haul away so I had them take some doors I didn't want instead and they happily took them. I wish all contractors were this easy to work with.
Description of Work: Installed 2 3-layer Clopay garage doors. 15' x 7' and 8' x 7'. Two garage door openers (belt drive and chain drive). Internet gateway.

I purchased the special on Angie's List for $1650 and upgraded to wood grain for the additional $199 (which was noted in the deal) They came 3 days after purchase to measure the area. The door was ordered and installed within 2 weeks. They arrived EXACTLY at the time they promised and provided all items perfectly at the price promised. I was very pleased with the entire process. The garage door looks amazing.

I called this morning to inquire about service, got a quote for $45. I made an appointment to repair the garage door which was not opening. The service man showed up and went in to check the breakers, although I said they were all normal. He checked the remote, and discovered the cord was plugged into a box, which he said was not working. He took off the box and plugged the cord directly into the outlet. He was here for no more than 6 minutes. When I handed him a check for $45, he demanded an additional $95 for fixing the problem and said $45 was just for the call. I refused to pay more. We argued for about 20 minutes; I told him that if he wanted $95 for "fixing" the problem to just unplug the cord, and I could do it myself! We argued for about 20 minutes. I believe he was trying to take advantage of me. What does the "service call" include? Showing up?

I called in for service at about 3:30 on a Friday afternoon with a garage door that was stuck in the open position. The person that answered the phone said that a technician would be out between 4:30 and 6:00. The technician was punctual, arriving at 5:00. He looked at the door that was off-track and said he could fix and service the door for $250. I asked how long it would take to do the work. He said 40 minutes. Why would it be $250 for 40 minutes of work with no replacement parts needed? I complained that that was expensive for 40 minutes of work. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that it was 5:05PM on a Friday afternoon with the garage door stuck open (with the garage door located close to a moderately traveled street)? After I complained, he said he could do it for $195. I complained some more, but he said that's all he could do. I called the office. The lady that answered said there was nobody else to talk to and that the technician was fully qualified to estimate and do the work. What was I to do? Late on a Friday afternoon with the prospect of trying to get someone else to come out and potentially not getting something done until Saturday or maybe Monday, I reluctantly agreed. The technician got the job done quickly - in a little over 30 minutes. He balanced the door, tightened some nuts on the door, and lubricated all of the joints. He did have to replace a small bracket, but it couldn't cost more than a couple of dollars. He did grind a couple of sharp parts on the track. Overall, he did a good job, but really, $195 for a little over 30 minutes of work?

We called five companies for estimate, three out of the five are from Angie's List. and "Garage Door 4 Less"'s price point was right in the middle. The sales person Eric was very professional and very nice. Although our opener is still working, he suggested we get a new one because he said sometime an old opener does not work well with a new door, and to get them replaced together is the cheapest way to go. After reading all of their reviews, and based on the fact that they won an Angie's List award for 2012, we decide to go with them. The installation was fast. The installer came by himself and was very professional. He was finished in 2 and a half hours, and we paid in full in cash. Since he left we were very busy for a few days, and didn't touch the garage door again because we only use the garage for storage at the moment. I was about to write a review and give them an "A," when I opened the garage door for the first time. The door is constantly jammed. It won't come down and it won't go up and it keeps making clicking sounds. Nothing is blocking the door and we didn't touch anything since the installer left. I called "Garage Door 4 Less" right away, and the sales lady Maria said she'll try to send someone out right away. She asked us to have someone stay at home, and their guy will be here before 6pm, I said "Thank you." 15 mins later she called me back and said she spoke to a technician, and he said something might be blocking the sensor, and they do not have a warranty for the sensor. I told her we didn't touch anything since they left. The door and opener were installed on Thursday, and it's Monday right now, we're opening it for the first time. Just to make sure it's really broken, I try to close it again. It closed when I hold the button on the wall down really hard for a really long time. Then, I try to open it again with the opener, same thing happened, it's jammed. Won't open all the way, won't close, and it keeps making clicking sounds. So she responded "OK" and said they'll send someone out, and he'll be here before 6. We canceled our afternoon engagements, and waited, and waited. No one came. It was a very important business dinner that I canceled, and let me tell you, I was ANGRY! Well, no body would be happy with $1149 out and a new door that's broken! Update: They did send someone out to fix the problem the next week. I wish there hasn?t been a problem in the first place. I think we all did overrated a little at the beginning. Glad they fixed it. I was told it won?t happen again, well, I hope so... I'm not confident it won't happen again. We'll see.

Response from Garage Doors & Gates 4 Less
" First, we would like to apologize for the issue customer had with your garage door after installation. Customer called on 9/23 and advised issues closing door and spoke with our agent Leslie who was advised by the installer that it might possibly be a sensor issue and that we would be happy to send someone but that in the future sensor issues may not be covered due to possible user error(i.e. someone bumped it, kids playing or object blocking infrared). We advised client we would send someone that afternoon/evening. Unfortunately, the tech called after his last repair and advised he wasn't feeling well and had a fever(he was fighting a cold the week before), our rep attempted to reach client in the evening to advise and wasn't able to make contact, 3 days later customer called back to see what was going on and spoke to Maria who apologized for the delay and explained the situation with the sick tech. We sent the tech same day on 9/26 within 1hour to check the door and he found that it WAS a sensor adjustment which we took care of at no cost. Again we apologize for the issue with the door and our company but we do ask for at least 48hrs to respond to a warranty call and we do our best to respond within allotted time if not sooner. We appreciate your business and always do our best to provide the best service possible." Also we didn't find the above address or client name in our data base, the record we show for this issue was for a jobsite in Sun Valley. ---GD4LESS

I am new to angies list. However, in description of business it mentions they do free estimates. My garage wooden garage door has not worked for several years, I suspect there is a good chance the door can be salvaged and told the person who I spoke with that would be my preference. I also told her I knew I might need a new one. She scheduled time for technician to come out to the house and then informed me there would be an automatic service charge of $45, since it would be a repair job. I expressed my confusion over this, particularly because I made it clear I did not know if door could be serviced/salvaged or it I would need a new one, and in either case I had no information, idea what the door would need and how much it might cost. She asked me to hold the line to give her time to call someone with authority to waive service fee. I waited for what seemed like a long time only to have her return to tell me fee would not be waived. I cancelled call and am still sitting here in disbelief, this policy seemed like a psychological tactic to try to ensure my business without any indication about how much it would cost. I had asked for estimate for new driveway gate as well and cancelled both.

I was vey pleased with the service I received. My garage door would not open or close. The repair tech was here within 2 hours of my call. He saw that the problem was the emergency release was not completely latched and the cables were obviously worn. The tech, Danny, was very friendly, efficient and explained clearly what needed to be done. He replaced both cables and lubricated all the moving parts. I would use this company again and would recommend them highly.

Wrote the first review too soon. Garage door opener in car worked for 24 hours. When I called the company the next day, I was told the tech would be out that afternoon. Instead I got a phone call from him, yelling at me "what did I do?!!!" He said he wouldn't come out that day, even tho it had been booked, but would come the following day. He never showed up. I called this morning, explaining the events to the scheduler and asked for another tech. I was assured I would get another one and today. Well, guess who just left. Mr. Nasty. He reprogrammed the car and then another opener stopped working. He said he would have to reprogram the entire set and why did I have so many openers!!!! My fault again. But he did have the nerve to tell me he would do it if I gave him $20 cash. I gave him nothing and he did it. Lesson learned? don't be so quick to write a review good or bad!

There was only one thing wrong with this company....but first I'll say that everything about their work was great...the only exception being the coupon offered on Angies List was misleading (and it was the thing that induced me to call them). The coupon states "$95 FOR A COMPLETE GARAGE DOOR TUNE UP TO MAKE YOUR DOOR WORK LIKE NEW AGAIN!" I would think that a typical call for services would be because something is wrong. I would further think, from the coupon that the company is going to make it right for $95. I can understand that wouldn't include parts, but it is obvious, by its own wording, it would include labor. In my case, it was suggested that I needed new rollers, and I thought that the $40 was reasonable for these parts.. But then they added an additional $40 for labor to put the rollers on! That should have been included in the $95 offer, otherwise it is meaninglessSo I ended up paying the $95 for nothing excepting to TELL ME I needed the rollers and I paid another $40 for parts + $40 labor.Labor that SHOULD be part of the coupon! That makes the coupon very misleading. The $95 should have included the labor, of course.Beware....the $95 offer is meaningless.Onto the service....it was perfect. The serviceman knew what he was doing, found and solved the problem quickly, and I can findno fault at all about the service side of this company. They just need to re-word their coupon, But I advise others NOT to use their service until they do change their coupon on the general principle that if they continue this form of advertising they do not deserve your business.

This was a most pleasant experience. These people are busy and professional. They gave me an estimate over the phone. When the installer went to inspect the property, it turned out that the openings first needed to be framed with wood to accomodate the new doors. The first trip for installation, the guys had the wrong measurements ...but within a few days, the problem was resolved. What I liked best was dealing with Jolene and Maria who handled the business side via e-mail. They left both garages immaculate and even hauled away the heavy, wood doors. They also honored the Angie's List discount. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting good service and quality products.

Overall, this was a mixed experience. The staff were punctual, polite and helpful. The new garage door opener seems to work well. It's quiet and powerful. The price seemed fair. We had 2 concerns. First, the person who installed the opener had only one remote control (for our car). The second one he brought was for an older model of the door opener. He said he would get the new one to us by Monday (the opener was installed on Friday). Monday afternoon I called and was told that the remote hadn't been delivered yet to the store. I repeatedly called throughout the week. Finally, the store called Saturday morning to say it would be brought to us about 10 AM. When it didn't arrive by the afternoon, my husband called and it was finally delivered -- 8 days after the installation. I rated them "B" on responsiveness because of this problem. Our second concern was that the old door was scraping the door jam. Staff suggested that the old jams were warped and we agreed to replace them. I was eager to do this because we were about to have the outside of the house and garage painted. They did a nice job replacing the jams -- but this has not solved the problem. We're hoping that the contractor doing the painting can help us with this. I gave them a B on quality because of this problem (not the garage door opener itself).

Called for an estimate the Friday before and they gave me the time and date. The following Monday between 12 & 2 to give me a price. I took off early from work and I had just arrived home when they called. A lady I'd never spoken to says "I'll give you a price over the phone". Which she did. But they never came out so I came home early from work for no reason except to take a phone call. Waste of my time and leave from work. If they were only wanted to do a phone quote and didn't have time for me why didn't they say that on the initial call?

They showed up on time and were very professional. I used the coupon from Angies List for the service. It took him about 10 minutes to grease the chain and wheels and he was done. He performed what was asked but for some reason I thought it would take a little longer. So I am not unhappy with the service, but the price just seemed a little high for what was performed. But I really appreciate that they were quick to respond and were available when I needed them.
