Description of Work: Originally paid for service call which included $100.00 towards any repairs. I needed no repairs had to pay additional money for flush.

Description of Work: Water heater broke just before we were leaving town. We really appreciated their fast response and professionalism. They successfully did the up-sell to a tankless water heater and now that I've had time to read Consumer Reports and other reviews I wish we hadn't spent the money.

Description of Work: The reason for the service call was that the water heater pilot could not stay on. The Payless tech said that the T-couple had to be replaced. The water heater was still under warranty so he called the manufacturer and explained what he needed. The manufacturer agreed to send the part but it would be at least 3 days before it could arrive to the house. The technician said he had a T-couple in his truck and agreed to install it and then have the manufacturer send the replacement to Payless Water Heaters. The T-couple was installed and it did fix the problem. I was charged $285 for the labor, which I consider that too expensive and the receipt does not reflect that the $39 charge for the service call was not subtracted from the total charge of $285.

Description of Work: I had two 12 year old air conditioning units needing replacement. I received multiple bids, and choose Payless AC, even though they were not the least expensive bid, however, I chose them for two reasons: the equipment they quoted (2 Lennox AC units) were competitively priced, the quality of the units, and because I was told the truth by the estimator (I'm an engineer, and one of the other estimators either lied to me, or the estimator was ignorant about how AC units operate, or was purposely trying to sell me things I did not need). | |I was very impressed with the installers: they wore booties over their shoes anytime they were in the house, they used drop sheets to cover any interior surfaces they would touch. They were on time. They were polite. What really impressed me was the fact they did multiple things that most people would have no idea if they took a shortcut and did not do them: several examples: they formed new plenums (the old ones were installed in such a way as to make the system less efficient, so instead of simply reusing the old ones, they fabricated new ones on site - so the the cold air would move through the entire coil and be well mixed before going to the house), they coated the inside of the plenums with "goop" so that there would be no air leakage (something I would never see), they took the time to flush all the lines with a solvent so the connecting pipes were like new, they eliminated one set of breakers (even though it was more difficult and expensive to do so) so that there would be the least number of breaks in the lines feeding the units, They had the vacuum pumps run for many hours to ensure the units would be the most efficient, they did a great job of covering up the lines cosmetically to the outside units - the old units just had pipes and wires strung through the air to them, and they cleaned up completely after themselves. | |Lastly, one of the units didn't work after the install. They sent technicians out twice to repair, one for most of a morning, and did not charge me for that, even though I think it could have been easily argued by Payless that it was my older equipment that was at fault. | |I have called the office multiple times, and the operator/dispatchers (there were at least 3 that I spoke with) were invariably polite and responsive.
