BEWARE - These people will rip you off if they can! Our water heater was installed by Payless Water Heaters & Plumbing, Inc. about a year ago, so when the copper tubing in front of the water heater sprung a leak I called them. They came out the next day, replaced a two inch piece of copper tubing which had a pinpoint leak in it and charged me $358. It took less than an hour. I thought it was a lot, but okay. The technician measured the water pressure and told me we also needed a new regulator because the water pressure was too high, and some other pipe would certainly spring a leak in the not too distant future unless it was replaced as soon as possible. I asked how much, he called in and quoted me $1,500 for a 1.25 inch 600 series regulator. We got an email estimate the next day which showed we were eligible for a $200 discount because I was a repeat customer. I called another plumber, gave him the specs, and he installed the identical 1.25 inch 600 series regulator in less than an hour for $638 total. When my wife called to complain about the outrageous gouging, she was told by Chris (an owner I presume), that we must have gotten “a good deal.” All I can say when dealing with this company is BUYER BEWARE! And get more than one bid.

The technician was knowledgeable and professional in his quote process. However, he admitted that his firm would not touch the permit process and that would be 100% on the home owner. When I remarked that his pricing was significantly higher than the other bids, the discussion suddenly veered into car dealership mode. "Well, we're flexible on the price, but I'll need to call my manager first... can I see the written quote of the other guys?... are you prepared to place the order now?" It was an unfortunate turn since I really respected their insights on tankless water heater conversions up to that point.

In January 2017 Payless Water Heaters replaced my water heater. One year and nine months later, I noticed that the Watts 210 valve was leaking and the leak corroded the cap. When I called to schedule a repair, they checked my invoice and scheduled the service without telling me they’d charge $85 for the service call plus parts, for a total of $499. Fortunately I called a second time to confirm they’d honor their previous work. When I asked the manager, Anthony, to replace it for free since two independent licensed plumbers told me the leak was due to poor workmanship, the manager spent 30 minutes unprofessionally making excuses and insulting me. Eventually he offered to replace the valve at cost, $268. Why should I spend almost $300 more dollars when the leak was their fault? I was so shocked that they did not stand by their workmanship or quality that I decided to discontinue business with them. I recommend you find a different business with more integrity behind their work.

I made an appointment for between 12n and 5pm which is a ridiculous window of time. Cable companies do better than that. By 8:30pm they still hadn't shown up. All day long, I was told the plumber had a complicated job before me, but I was next on his list and he would be right over as soon as he was done. I think they just overbooked and they were telling me that he was caught on a single job that was taking a long time. Is he such a bad plumber it takes eight and a half hours to get a single job done? I called at 8:30pm after Chase answered the phone and immediately tried to put me on hold. The last time he did that, I ended up waiting on hold for ten minutes. I told him no, I wasn't going to wait. This company has no sense of urgency to help customers. He kept saying his plumber would still be coming, even though I'd waited for eight and a half hours already. When I proceeded to tell him what I thought of his company, he had the nerve to tell me I was wasting his time as he had more important things to do. I WAS WASTING HIS TIME???? I'd waited all day for a plumber who never came and he had the nerve to tell me I was wasting his time. Payless doesn't care about your time, or even if they get to you at all. Avoid this company.

Terrible. They came out and measured and gave us a quote. When they came to install, the water heater they brought did not fit the space, although they did not realize that until they had removed the old unit and re-plumbed for the new unit. Additionally, they did not have the equipment necessary to perform the job. consequently they a lot of damage to our home trying to force the water heater into the space. They wanted to cut out the doorway and wall to install the water heater and then leave to us to repair our home. I finally suggested installing a smaller water heater, which they did. Then, they said it would take a couple weeks to get the building permit. They did not get a permit until I had made two phone calls, waited two months, and threatened to turn them in to the bulding department for doing work without permits. I am not waiting for an inspection. Stay away from this company.

I actually thought they were good. I was impressed with their competence. It was quite expensive. They had to make quite a few changes to be able to install it. I know you can get it cheaper, but I was really impressed with them and their site. I was really drawn to them by the site where they had a lot of information about them and their products.

I felt they did a good and thorough job inspecting and cleaning/descaling the water heater, and it definitely worked more consistently after their visit. That said, it still occasionally turns itself off for no apparent reason, but so much less often than before Payless came ( and I’d already had an ineffective plumber come a couple of months before who did only a cursory cleaning but had no solution for the heater’s problem).

I got information on the phone and they were able to adjust my schedule. At first, I thought about buying the water heater on my own, but they were able to bring their own for a better price. They gave me peace of mind answering questions and install the unit efficiently.
Description of Work: Best company in Orange County. I recommend them highly. Very professional from the start. Alex on the phone and Jose P. performing the job. They were accurate in the price and were able to come right away to install the new water heater. They answer all my questions and were respectful and professional. We got a quote on line for $979 for a new 50 gallon water heater, including installation, removal of the tank an some pipes. When the guy showed up he looked at the job and wrote it up for $1,921.00. The added costs were because of a main water value, gas line flex hose, water pan. When we call them on it they lowered it to $1300.

We were assigned Payless Water Heaters through our home warranty with Old Republic. I called them to schedule an appointment since ORHP did not notify them that it was an emergency (ie no hot water!). Payless was able to schedule someone for the next business day, however they missed their 10-2 window and arrived around 3:30. The technician Gary was quick and efficient. I would definitely call them again for service.
Description of Work: Replaced thermal couple on water heater. Please note cost was only our deductible on the home warranty plan. I do not know how much this would cost to deal directly with Payless.

******. First, they did not call us before arriving at our rental as promised. Then this was a total BAIT AND SWITCH. Our Angie's list coupon was for a complete removal and installation of a 40 gallon water heater for $841. They came back with a price of $1,980!!!!!! When I asked why, they told me because of the upgrade to a larger water heater than we had ordered, the finance charges (we were paying with a Angie's list prepaid $841 coupon), and to bring it to code. They said I needed to call their office. Their office was very rude and condescending. I told them that we did not need a 50 gallon water heater and that we did not need financing. They dropped their price to $1,492, which was still way over their quoted price. They made up some ******** excuses for some parts (that could be purchased at home depot for about $150) and then stated that their cost did not include an $80 city permit. Because they had us over a barrel because this was a rental and we were not on site and needed the service, we proceeded under duress and against our better judgment.

I was overall unimpressed with Payless but they did have some redeeming qualities, though it took a bit of work to get there. When I first called, I was quoted a price over the phone of just under $1000 for the base cost of the until + installation, but was told that I should allow for a couple hundred dollars cushion for all the unforeseen circumstances of my particular home, which I was totally fine with. The technician arrived on Saturday, Jan 9 and saw my setup. He noted that he would have to replace the unit itself, the connections as there was corrosion, install an expansion tank so it would be up to code, etc. When all was said and done, the price was nearly double at over $1800 for a complete install. I know they work on commission, but I definitely felt like this was a bit of a bait and switch scenario. This was much more than I expected to pay, especially based off the (under)bid I got on the phone. However, when you haven't had hot water for a couple of days with small children int house, you don't have the time and convenience to comparison shop, so I opted to move forward since Payless had gotten decent reviews on Angies List. When the work was done, I examined it and it looked okay and we did have hot water, but I did question the way he set up the connections. And there was something else that seemed off, but not being a plumber, I couldn't put my finger on it. The next day I called in a friend who is a plumber to take a look and within a second he saw the issue. Even though my entire house was copper piping, the tech used galvanized pipe on the install. Considering how much money I had spent, I was upset that I got a technician who decides to maximize his profit by installing galvanized piping, knowing that it corrodes over time and really should only be used for gas. When I called the company to complain, I spoke with a person who said the manager would call me on Monday. After not hearing from anyone, I called back myself and was directed to Chris who was less than friendly. He told me that galvanized was up-to-code and I should have requested brass or copper fittings if that's what I wanted. I felt like that was an unprofessional answer, as I was not a plumber and was paying for their expertise in this area. And when I complained about the gap in price from the phone call to install, I was told "Well, you signed the contract. Maybe next time read it before you sign." which was infuriating and unprofessional to say the least. He finally agreed to swap out the fittings for me but said the same technician had to come back and do it. I scheduled my appt for the next Saturday morning. By that Saturday afternoon, he had still not shown up. I called throughout the day to get a status and on this last call was told "He hasn't shown up for work today and we can't get a hold of him so we'll have to reschedule." I had been home ALL DAY waiting for this tech, so I explained that wouldn't be acceptable as I just rearranged my entire Saturday and had I not been persistent in calling, likely wouldn't have heard from anyone. They called me back and told me another tech would come by today. That tech came by and was clearly more experienced and knew what he was doing much more than the first tech. He was pretty taken back that the other tech had used galvanized and not only swapped out the fittings, but redid the setup to be much cleaner. So at the end of the day, I got a great heater and correct installation, but it took some time, effort and persistence to get there. Normally, I would have been much more easy affable about the situation, but the way Chris spoke to me on a couple of occasions really made me feel unvalued as a customer, especially when trying to right a wrong that should have never been the case.
Description of Work: Replaced my broken water heater. Previous water heater was installation was done in 2003, so started with a completely new installation.
