I called and left messages at a few other companies on Saturday morning and was getting worried that my house would be cold all weekend. Joel answered my call and even though he couldn't fit in a same day appointment, he offered some advise to help me troubleshoot the problem and even provided his cell phone number in case I needed more help while I was troubleshooting. I followed his advise and it only took 5 minutes to get the system working again. Thanks Joel! You'll be my first call next time!
Description of Work: Offered advise over the phone since he couldn't fit it a same day appointment.

Really easy to schedule the service call, called on a Saturday, left a message and heard back Monday morning. Joel arrived early, and waited, even though I was running a few minutes late. Gave me hints on things to look for throughout the heating season. All in all, prompt, knowledgeable, informative, courteous and friendly. Definitely would use again.

Joel called me back right away. When I told him my heater was officially not working and I needed help ASAP he went out of his way to come over the next day. In addition to fixing the thermostat, I knew we needed some help with the airflow in our house. It was always hot downstairs and freezing upstairs. Last winter we needed to use a space heater in our bedroom all winter and a few times the cold pierced the air still and we were very cold. I was avoiding the heater guy because I thought it was going to cost us a fortune to fix it and we had essentially just moved in and were low on cash. In hindsight I wish we called him last year. Joel gave both simple and complicated solutions and asked which we preferred. At first we wanted the deluxe, but Jim said that his simple fix might be good enough so he went forward with plan A. As I stated above we had the ducts adjusted so the airflow was less in the hot areas and bigger in the upstairs. He replaced the vents that were bad for particular rooms. Joel told us we had an electric air filter that was damaged and needed repair. Or Joel said he could install a simple air intake filter inside the house that we could then manage and change ourselves. We took the simple version because I like that he wanted to make our maintenance easy. Our house heats evenly now and our thermostat runs very well. I suspect we will save in heating bills because we no longer need to blast the heater only to get a hot downstairs and really cold upstairs. I am looking forward to finding out.
Description of Work: Joel repaired our heater and redistributed the heat for the house. First Joel and his crew replaced our thermostat because it was old and broken. Second he replaced the ineffective vent covers in the house, gave us an interior air filter for our intake vent so we could change it regularly, and redid some ducting below the house to expand airflow to upstairs where is was cold and decrease airflow where the heater was overheating some rooms.

Joel immediately returned my call for help in repairing our AC when no one else on Angies list or in the area would because it was Labor Day Saturday and over 100 degrees outside. His technician stopped by within an hour and diagnosed the problem in the condenser unit. He had run out of the needed replacement and left to get one...in the meantime the owner of the company Joel showed up and was able to get the unit running with some great ingenuity. I am so impressed when you get good customer service, a fair price and a friendly response...it is so rare these days. If you live in SoCal and do not check Wardour out for your HVAC needs you are missing out on a very professional opportunity.

I got the referral to Wardour Heating & Air Conditioning through Angie's list and chose them because of the stellar rating and that it was a small independent company. I have a 1,650 sq ft home consisting of 6 existing outlets and one room needing an outlet added. Joel Wardour promptly returned my initial call and we scheduled a day and time for him to inspect the existing furnace closet, ducting and vents. During the inspection, he explained various options for venting and proposed one of two types of furnaces, cost and differences in the performance of the equipment. Joel gave me a rough ball-park figure for the high-end of what the cost would be. When he left, he said he would email me a written quote. Within the week I received a very detailed written proposal listing each item we had discussed that would be included. I was happily surprised that his quote was $1,100 less than the quote I had received twelve years ago! The quote included a new Bryant 80% 2-stage upflow 70k Btu furnace and new thermostat, new registers throughout the house, new return air grill and a new ceiling outlet with register in a room that wasn't previously vented. I suggested some days for the work to be performed that suited my schedule and we confirmed a date. Joel's crew of two showed up promptly at the scheduled day and time and performed all the work with very little disruption. They laid protective floor covering where ever they were working and walking. I had an existing 1950's dead-dinosaur furnace that needed to be removed. They removed and hauled away the old equipment and wrapped my existing ducting with foiled insulation. If they had questions about placement of venting, they asked. When the job was done, they cleaned everything up and left everything as when they'd arrived. I was shown in detail how to operate the new thermostat, vents and how to change the filter. Within the hour, Joel returned to inspect the work and verify that I'd been shown how to operate the new system. He also tested all the air flow patterns, especially from the new vent. This was such a painless experience and Joel and his crew were wonderful. I wouldn't hesitate recommending them. An excellent job done by professional and friendly people, at a good price.

Couldn't have gone better. We solicited multiple bids and had lots of questions before we finally selected Wardour. Through the whole process, Joel was extraordinarily helpful. He came to our house and did the initial inspection and price quote himself. (During the inspection he even found that our asbestos abatement company had left a transite pipe in the attic ? thanks to Joel we got the abatement people to complete the entire job we had paid for.) Every time we called with more questions, he answered the phone or returned the call almost immediately. In the end, Wardour's price was by far the best, but it was Joel's professionalism, experience, and expertise that really won us over. When it came to installation, Joel and his crew were exceptionally polite, professional, and incredibly fast: they got the job done in under two days. Once the furnace and thermostat were installed, he walked us through the system's operation, normal start-up sounds, and how to use the thermostat. We can't recommend Joel Wardour and Wardour Heating more highly. All in all it was a great experience.

I located Wardour Heating here on Angie's List. He was the first vendor I've used since joining. It's a small company (I like that) - the owner and one or two others. On the initial call, the owner, Joel Wardour, returned my call in a timely manner. We discussed my issues with our air conditioning system, and some of the options. Joel suggested I change the filter, see if that made a difference, then call him back. I changed the filter and it did not seem to do any good. I did not call back, and Joel followed up a few days later. That was impressive! I procrastinated, but when we came back from a short vacation, our air conditioner was running 24/7, yet the house was not cooling off. So I called again. Joel promised to call me back and let me know when he could respond. He said it would be within 2 days. He called back and was able to come out the next morning. He arrived on time, and proceeded to diagnose the problem through questions to me about the system and by examining it. He asked for my approval before doing doing anything that was to cost money. Because we needed two items (freon & sealer), he waived his $85. service call. Then, when he saw that we were paying cash, he gave us a generous cash discount (the bill was $347.50, but he accepted $325. cash as payment in full). He gave us a detailed receipt, that also had a quote on it for an item we may add later. Joel was friendly and professional. He did not try to up-sell me & there was no mention of a service contract. He chatted with me when he didn't need to concentrate. I will definately use him again and would recommend him, without any hesitation! I was a little reluctant to join Angie's List. This one experience alone was easily worth the annual fee. And Joel said Angie's List is his second most successful source of business, with referrals being the first. I do not like to use big companies, because they have a large overhead and they train their employees to sell stuff (like service contracts, ultra-violet lights, etc.), using high-pressure sales techniques that, although they work, are deceptive techniques. Also, I don't want to help pay for the owner's yacht. In fact, there is one big local dealer that I will never allow back in this house, and they are on Angie's List. I won't mention their name, but if you look at some of the locals who have some negative ratings, and then notice a LONG explanation and justification after every less-than-stellar review, then you have found them!
Description of Work: Service call, diagnosis & evaluation, added freon, used E-Z Seal. Efficient, reliable and reasonably priced. Low overhead meant cost savings.

Because I was trying to close escrow on the sale of my home and timing was important, Mr. Wardour worked me into his schedule and checked out what was needed, then scheduled his return date with the correct part. His service was very responsive, efficient, and affordable. He also took the time to discuss another (completely unrelated) repair problem I was facing, providing me useful input. Very helpful. Good service.

Our house heater in the attic stopped delivering heat and I suspected the burner was not igniting. I left a phone message with Mr. Wardour and it took 2 days for a response (but there were extenuating circumstances). Once in contact, he was able to have a technician to my house the next day, who diagnosed it quickly as a dead ignition module. It required a universal model which he didn't think he had, but came back from his truck with one. The installation was more involved than expected but with some phone consultation, it finally worked. Mr. Wardour and I had a couple of phone calls to clarify the higher than expected bill: due to a more complicated module and some extra wiring required. I appreciated Mr. Wardour working my job in as quickly as he did (with the colder than usual weather) and the technician was very competent, thorough, and friendly.

My furnace in the garage kicked the bucket a week before Christmas during a cold spell in So Cal. I called all the top HVAC guys in the area based on Angie's List. It was hard just getting a call back in general. Everyone was booked solid through Christmas. Joel Wardour was one of the few that actually called back. In fact he was recommended as by another reputable HVAC company (P&M Mechanical or something like that) who couldn't take me on themselves. Even though Joel had no availability to take on my job immediately, he came out for an initial assessment the next day. Unfortunately my furnace with a cracked flue had to be disconnected right away for potential CO poisoning. Joel too was booked through Christmas but he and his crew ended up coming through and installing the furnace on Saturday, the day before our big extended family gathering in our house. They didn't have time to do the whole job but did manage to install the furnace and turn on the heat. The duct insulation and fine tuning was completed the day after Christmas. They practically saved our Christmas. This is a three-person company. Joel is the owner. His crew, David and Jesus, are both very professional, respectful, and friendly. The technical stuff aside, they did a neat job and cleaned up the system and the work area well. Joel seems like a straight shooter with a sense of humor. He recommended a 2-stage 88,000 BTU system to replace our old 125,000 BTU system for the size of our house as back in the days people tended to overbuild without regard to energy efficiency. Frankly I only expected him to replace the broken furnace and be done. But Joel was interested in making sure heating in our whole house as comfortable as possible. He took the time to come into the house and check and commented on the heating design and suggested changes to the vents. He educated me and indeed made the house more comfortable. When the city inspector (Torrance) came by the next day, he had Joel make some changes to the exhaust vent system with some certified transition duct. It took a few days for Joel to locate the part and completed the job. When the inspector returned again days later without Joel on site, he acknowledged that what Joel did was difficult and he did a great job. I think Joel's been working in Torrance for 20+ years? In reference to Joel, The inspector said "you've got a good one". Enough rambling. After 8 heat-less days, I was very glad for Joel's professionalism and saving our Christmas. I would recommend him on the quality of job and the whole experience.
Description of Work: 1) Replaced my old furnace (circa 1968) with a new Bryant 2-stage 80,000BTU furnace 2) installed a damper in the 2nd floor main duct to control heat distribution 3) replaced 2 interior vents/registers to help better direct heat.

I left a request for service on the business answering machine on Sunday and received a call promptly Monday morning, even though it was New Year's Eve. Our technician was punctual and delivered great service. He discussed the problems with the heating unit and went over the parts and operation. He replaced the filter and thermostat on the spot and the price was reasonable. He gave me follow up items to keep an eye on and recommendations for future maintenance. Overall, Wardour provided excellent service and the technician was friendly and courteous.

Our 30 year old floor furnace developed a gas leak (the burner holes were clogged with rust and debris). I called Joel Wardour and he sent his technician, Jesus, out that day to remove the burner assembly. Joel was pleasant and knowledgable. He quoted me $1,200 to rebuild the burner which was a competitive quote. I picked Joel because he answered the phone, was able to start work as soon as possible and didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. One company tried to convince me I needed central heat for $8,000! The burner assembly was rebuilt in a timely manner. Jesus expertly installed the burner assembly. Jesus was also pleasant, knowledgable and professional. Due to the cold weather the heating companies were very busy but Joel (and Jesus) came through and saved the day! Our floor furnace is as good as new and works great. The best part (besides being warm) is the final bill was only $675!I I highly recommend Wardour Heating & Air Conditioning.
Description of Work: Removed entire burner assembly from floor furnace, inspected draft diverter for integrity, ordered and picked up parts for rebuild. Cleaned burners, installed new millivolt gas valve, pilot assembly, generator, pilot tubing and connectors, gas flex and nipples. Re-installed burner assembly.

I found Wardour on Angie's List and called them originally when my furnace stopped working during a cold spell. It turned out to be a control board for my furnace, but during that repair, Joel diagnosed that my air return was too small, which was causing both air flow problems to several bedrooms and also causing the blower motor to overheat and shut down while heating. In the end, I decided to replace all of the aging ducts, several of which were asbestos coated (removed by another service provider). Wardour is very busy this time of year, and it took some time to get a commitment to actually do the job on a specific date. However, on that date, they did come in and do the job quickly and effectively. All of the vents now blow very strong, and I anticipate that both the heater and air conditioner will not have to run as much in the cold and hot seasons because they will be working so much more efficiently than before. I think because Wardour is so busy, they do charge a premium for their services. I did get some sticker shock at the price quoted for the job initially, and then when I added some additional work (cut holes and install new ceiling vents instead of using existing registers in celing soffit), the quoted price jumped quite a bit more than I expected. In the end, we were able to negotiate a reasonable price, and the work appears to be done very well.

I left a message Thursday and Friday morning the owner called to schedule the service for an hour or 2 from the time of the call. The owner gave me the serviceman's name. The serviceman arrived in about an hour wearing a company tee shirt and fixed the problem. The serviceman was nice and well spoken, explaining the burning system on the furnace and what to look for if it goes bad. He left the area clean and neat and said the owner would send a bill for his services. I asked about how much he said $85.00 service call plus the part. It was a pleasant transaction and I now have heat.

Responsive, professional, and knows his business. This is the first time, after 12 years and about that many technicians from both private companies and the gas company, that someone actually explained to me how the parts of the furnace I was worried about work. Step by step in layman's language. (One tech years ago insisted I needed to buy 2 new furnaces because these were both too old and unsafe) Thank you, Joel, for the peace of mind that our furnaces can keep on keepin' on for now!

Joel, the owner, did the initial survey of attic duct system and provided the estimate. I found him a little hard to get a hold of. Best way to reach him is his cell phone, by his own request. Believe it! Any other approach - e-mail or office phone is not likely to be responded to for a few days. It took a while to get the work scheduled, which was a little frustrating. He's got a small crew and they seem to be always busy so give yourself plenty of time and flexibility to schedule. Once the date was set everything went off like clock work. One of the two team members assigned to do the work came by the weekend prior to work starting (work occurred over a Monday/Tuesday) to inspect the attic and make sure he would have the right tools needed for my job when he arrived on Monday. He confirmed arrival between 8-8:30 Monday morning. On Monday at 8:15 both men arrived to start work. With only a 45 minute break for lunch they worked through the entire day and were amazing quiet. They put down canvass on entry way and up the stairs to the attic to minimize any dirt that might come from attic and old duct system. They bagged all the old duct work before bringing it down stairs. Couldn't believe there wasn't more dirt. By 4:00 Monday, when I needed them to stop for the day, they had removed all of the old duct work and had most of the new duct installed. Joel came by to check on the work mid-day and to make sure I was happy with the team. They finished the job Tuesday morning, done before 11, as promised. Both men on the crew were very professional, friendly, articulate and extremely hard working. Paid for the work once it was completed and received a receipt via e-mail. Very satisfied with the work, the crew and the price.
Description of Work: Replaced all heat ducts in attic coming off furnace. House is now 20 years old and old duct system insulation has come apart, (with help from some mice I think). One of the ducts to a bedroom had never worked well (didn't allow much air flow) and we wanted that corrected as well. Team of two removed all of the old duct system, amazingly without making any mess, and installed new duct work which now provides better air flow to all rooms. Very happy with the results!

Joel Wardour, owner, was very concerned that he completely understood the entire scope of the job and my current home situation so he could then best give me his recommendation on the best heater for my home. I called him from Angie's list and he answered the phone. Immediately he was asking questions and wanted to know if he could come by later in the day to access my situation. I appreciated the promptness as I needed to get a final bid (already had 2) to make a decision. I felt like I saved the best for the last. His bid came in next day and though it was not the lowest bid, but by far not the highest, he was willing to do everything in his power to make the deal as attractive as possible. Not saying that he would come down on the price, as he has been doing HVAC for over 30 years, but I wanted a filter to close the deal and he obliged. I needed the job done in the next 2 days and while he was busy, he found an opening for me the next day. 2 workers and Joel showed up promptly at 9:00am and began the work. His crew, Jesus and David, were very pleasant, very efficient, and very professional. They made sure they did not destroy or damage any existing property and this is very important to me. I don't like it when workers come in, make more of a mess than necessary to get the job done, damage things, or don't clean up after themselves when they are done. Not a problem with these guys. When I made suggestions or asked if something else could be done, they had no problem and didn't give me an attitude. This is also important as an owner should be able to ask questions or make sure the job is done to their satisfaction without the workers/technicians being defensive. The job was done by 3:30pm and it looked better than expected. Very clean job...I could tell they have not only been doing this a long time, but took pride in their work. Joel came by when the job was done to give a final inspection, I gave him the final payment, and we had heat for the first time in 10 days. During those days, I would be calling around to all kinds of HVAC companies that were either too busy, too expensive, or frankly, not really interested in helping me figure out the right kind of heater to install. Again, his price is not the lowest in town, but it competitive and fair and you get what you pay for. If you want high quality work for a fair price, Wardour is highly recommended!
Description of Work: My home was build in 1960's and we needed the original heating furnace replaced including the duct to the roof. Heating cabinet needed to be properly sealed. Basically, everything needed that goes with a heating furnace replacement. Decided on a 2 stage 80% efficient Rheem heater.

Our heater system broke down the day before New Year's Eve. Called several tech services but Wardour responded first and confirmed he'd be there within a few hours, as he was attending several calls that day. He came in, just as he had said, and fixed our problem (the heater would not turn off after we had turned it off and it was smelling like smoke). There was an additional technician with him and they both performed a great job. I will call him again and I'd like to recommend him here, since this is where we found him online.
Description of Work: The heater would not turn off after we had turned it off and there was no heat coming out of the vents. Wardour fixed the problem and installed a new switch.

They were one of two bidders and their price was about 2K less than the other bidder. The owner and his sons participated in the work and the owner reviewed everything and did final work. They were on time, courteous, clean and neat and vacuumed up everything and replaced wall board, etc. They are complete professionals and Craig, the owner sets high standards for his crew and himself. I recommend them for any work for which they are qualified, without reservation.
