Very accomodating to schedule work around our needs. McCarley Concrete dug out our old, cracked (crumbling, really) concrete driveway and planters; excavated the necessary 2+ inches to fit in rebar & gravel; poured and leveled/sloped concrete beautifully so that our drainage is no longer a problem. Planters are capped with flagstone and look great. Our curb appeal has increased dramatically! I would definitely recommend this company to friends!

I called, and this very friendly individual came at the scheduled time and gave me a very reasonable estimate to replace it. We set a date to do the work, then he and his assistant came on time and completed the work as expected. He came back and reinstalled the railing that needed to be removed in order to complete the original work. I have additional work that needs to be done and will certainly hire him again, as well as recommend him to anyone else needing masonry or concrete work. This is a true professional that is a credit to his profession!
Description of Work: I needed a concrete slab, which serves as an entryway, in front of the house replaced. There was no underpinning when it was originally installed and it had sunk into the open area underneath. The hole needed to be filled in and installed to make sure this would not sink again when concrete was poured in place.

We selected McCarley Concrete and Masonry from all the great reviews that we read and that he was only located in the next town over. Lee gave us a quote that was within our budget, we setup a date when the job would start. They arrived on time that and ready for work. We went over the job requirements and I?m glad that I went with the brick pattern that Lee suggested, it was perfect. They completed the job in one day and it was beautiful. My wife and I would highly recommend McCarley Concrete and Masonry for anyone looking similar work.
Description of Work: Installed decorative bricks in our small side yard patio, set up in grid pattern and perfectly sloped for water drainage.

During the time he spent on the property, measuring and making suggestions, etc., I should have realized there was an obvious lack of enthusiasm. I had not called anyone else and was really eager to get his final plan and bid. I don't have the luxury of sitting home and waiting for contractors, so response time is important to me. I even provided him with a copy of a new survey report I had obtained, as well as photos of the build site. I never heard from him again. I can understand a contractor deciding he doesn't want to take on a specific job; but I do not understand such a lack of courtesy in not making one simple call and telling me he wasn't going to bid. I wasted valuable time waiting for him.
Description of Work: I called to obtain assistance in designing and installing a planter/fence between my property and my neighbor's. It also included removing an unsightly cement "hill" and replacing it with some combination of planter/steps/pavers, etc. He responded within a reasonable period of time and we discussed the job in detail.

I originally contacted Lee to remove some concrete in my backyard. During the walk through, his expertise, extremely fair bid (labor only) and creativity impressed me so we moved forward. Lee arrived promptly every day and performed at a level above expectations. When the stoneyard gave us an inferior grade of stone, he pointed it out and returned it all to get the right stone. There were no corners cut, he went above and beyond with the details and the Flagstone patios looks well designed, professional and high quality.
Description of Work: Lee excavated existing cement and dirt to install about 450sq ft of flagstone serpentine shaped patio in two sections of my yard. He cut and laid each stone individually with sand and cement, then filled the joints with polymeric sand.

They arrived the first day, on time, worked with the weather situation, we left on vacation, they came back right after and finsihed the job, very professional,we left them at the house on their own. No problem. Cleaned up, no mess, no dust.
Description of Work: We found this company through a referral. The original idea was to remove bricks from the outside of our house, however being cost effective they told us to put slate on top of the bricks. We loved this idea to save money, and then decided that we could afford to redo our fireplace. Great choice. Highly recommend.

McCarley Concrete did a fantastic job. They arrived on time set up everything, and worked quickly and efficiently, Their working area was well-organized. They performed above and beyond my expectations. I had asked that materials that they were clearing out of the front yard be brought to the backyard for me to use for projects I wanted to do later. Not only did they do this for me, they stacked everything more neatly than even I would have done. They finished the job in one day, just as promised. When they were finished with the job, they cleaned up their work area completely, and answered all of my questions about what I would need to do as the concrete cures (keep it damp, etc). They did a great job, my yard looks beautiful now. I would (and already have) recommend them to friends, neighbors and co-workers.
Description of Work: They poured concrete to create a walkway in the front yard, along the front of the house and wrapping around to a side area. They also poured a new area of concrete to create an extension of the driveway (wider), so there would be more room to park.

We set up an appointment with Mr. Lee McCarley of McCarley Concrete and Masonry, he arrived on time and according to our schedule. We sat down with him to review our remodeling plan and our wish list. We showed him pictures of what we would like to include in the project. He then proceeded to take the necessary measurements and made notes on the information we provided him. He stated that he would e-mail us a quote including a description of the work to be completed within 2 days. My wife and I were very pleased with his professionalism and his willingness to listen to our needs. My wife who is very critical had a good feeling about him. We received the quote later the very next day. I e-mailed him to let him know that he would hear back from us the very next day. We decided to hire Mr McCarley to remodel our backyard based on his quote and his professionalism . I contacted Mr. McCarley the very next day. We discussed our schedule with Mr. McCarley and stated that we had some prior commitments and would not be able to start the work until the end of August. He was willing to re-work his schedule according to our needs. We met one more time prior to the start of the job. at that time he again described in detail the process in complete our re-model including the necessary permits with the City of Los Angeles, materials we will need to make decisions about, the the sequence of events. After the necessary permit were obtained, the demolition phase began the following Monday. The Sunday before the work was to begin, he called and stated that he would be here at 7:30 in the morning. His work day always started at 7:30 unless he called ahead of time. He met the demolition crew, mapped out what had to be removed(broken patio, sidewalks and a 40 year old retaining wall made of adobe form Mexico). The demo crew completed the work in 3 days as promised. He came the very next morning along with his assistant and did the final preparation of the foundation for the new retaining wall. This took place the week prior to the Labor Day weekend. On that Friday, the foundation was poured, The work was done in a timely manner and according to his description of what would take place that morning. The work was completed and at that time he asked to make our decision on the color and type of brick we would be using for the new retaining wall. My wife and I went to the local building supply and stone yard to make our final decision. We made our decision based on our pre-determined color palette. We contacted Mr. McCarley and let him know of our decision. He said he would order the bricks and would have them delivered the Tuesday after Labor Day. The bricks arrived on Tuesday morning as scheduled, and the work began the new retaining wall. The work on the retaining wall began promptly on that morning and was completed that week according to the plan and the requirement of the permits. The retaining wall passed inspection and Mr. McCarley proceeded with laying the foundations for the sidewalks, patio, and both side yards. The patio required extra effort and thought because we asked that it be placed in a grid of 4 by 4 squares. Along with building the foundation for the patio, etc. he began the work on the patio that included an 8 foot wide cooking area and a 8 foot wide raised sitting area. Once the foundation and BBQ were complete, the concrete was ordered and the patio, sidewalks and side yards were poured. Once the concrete had set up over the weekend, he returned and removed the wood and began work on finishing the walls for the BBQ. The work was completed the next day and all necessary work was completed in preparation for a new counter top. Once the counter top was completed and the granite ordered, he returned the next week and stuccoed the entire BBQ. Again the work was completed expertly as was all of the work Mr. McCarley and his assistant completed. My wife and I are very pleased with the work that was completed. We have received many complements. We plan on using Mr. McCarley in the near future.
Description of Work: Developed plans for our backyard remodel based on our wish list Obtained Permits Supervised the removal of existing retaining wall, sidewalks and patio Graded the backyard for drainage purposes(we live on a hill side) Scheduled and installed the concrete foundation for the new foundation wall Installed the new retaining wall based on permit requirements Installed concrete sidewalks, new patio and side yard set up in grid pattern(all perfectly sloped for drainage) Built and stuccoed new BBQ and raised sitting area Recommended Granite Installer

I would highly recommend McCarley Concrete and Masonry. Lee McCarley and crew were fantastic at the retaining wall repair, terracotta tiling, demolition and concrete filling as well as very reasonable, professional, punctual, complied with all City of LA requirements and permits while performing all work beyond expectation including leaving sidewalks and public areas safe and clean. I would highly recommend them and will use them again when needed.
Description of Work: Approx. 60' of retaining wall repair. Demolition of 20' portion of secondary wall built on original retailing wall, remove dirt. Home foundation repair and fill against water seepage. Tiling 30' front walk and 20+ steps with terracotta tile. Fill old, un-used spa with concrete to use as table area. Most importantly, McCarley navigated Los Angles city hall to obtain all permits, worked with engineer(s) and architects to comply with all requirements.

First off, the finished product looks fantastic and Lee McCarley is a wonderful craftsman and that is the most important thing. Now the process getting to the finished product, well that's where things were not so smooth. I need to stress that the issues we encountered were of no way caused by Lee and if not for his dedication to seeing the job completed I would be a very unhappy and unsatisfied customer. The job started off well enough with the demolition of our old concrete driveway. Once the concrete was hauled away a number of pipes were exposed that ran across the driveway. Fortunately, as I correctly assumed, these were long abandoned sprinkler pipes so they were cut and removed. Unfortunately both Lee and I mis-calculated the path that the main water line took from the street into my house and when Lee was jackhammering the hard soil to widen the driveway, sure enough, he hit the water main. Luckilly Lee knew what to do and went srtaight to the water meter off the street and turned off the main water supply. A plumber was called to make the repairs to the water main. Fortunately not much time was lost and the job was back on schedule. The laying of the pavers took about four days and the re-building of the planter with the stone veneers took another two. We had to wait an additional two weeks, because the caps we selected for the planter were special order. The problems began when the sealer was appled to the pavers. The sealer did not cure properly, and even after waiting two days to allow for curing the surface was tacky. When we drove on the driveway there were dark tire tracks left on the pavers. Needless to say this was not acceptable. I contacted Lee and he came out to take a look for himself. He agreed that this was not the correct result and he contacted Thompson's building supply (who supplied the sealer) and they contacted the sealer manufacturer. Lee was instructed by the manufacturer to use SimpleGreen and a stiff brush to remove the marks. Of course this didn't work and he requested the the sealer manufacturer send someone to see the damage for themselves. Once the reps from the sealer co. saw the damage they knew that this was an unusual case and they admitted that the batch of sealer used was defective causing it not to cure properly. The sealer manufacturer said that they would remove the old sealer (which would require a high-pressure power wash) and reseal the driveway. Unfortunately, the pressure wash process used to remove the sealer also damaged the great majority of the pavers on the driveway. I was very disappointed as was Lee with the resulting damage to the pavers. This began a weeks long back and forth between Lee and the sealer manufacturer to have the damage repaired which was going to require a complete redo of the entire job. Finaly after some tense negotiations mediated by Thompson building supply, the sealer company agreed that Lee should redo the entire job. Lee now proceeded to remove the damaged paver griveway and for the second time, completely re-layed a new paver surface. The econd time around there were no problems with the sealer and the job looks great. Although it was a stressful process, I must give credit to Lee for his dedication to getting this job done right. I thououghly enjoyed working with Lee and I would be happy to hire him again for any future masonry jobs. Also... I have extensive brickwork in my backyard, and I when I had some plumbing repair a portion of the brick were jackhammered to access the pipes. this was not related to my driverway pavr job but, Lee repaired all the damaged bricks for no charge.

We are thinking of removing the lawn from our backyard and creating a large patio. We scheduled Lee to provide an estimate. He showed up, on time (after normal work hours) and spent a good 30 minutes helping us think through the options, providing suggestions, pointing out issues we need to consider, etc. Overall, we couldn't have been more impressed with his knowledge and helpfulness. Ultimately, the job would cost more than we are able to spend now, but when we do decide to revisit it Lee will be our man.

Lee was great to work with from start to finish. He showed up exactly on time to provide the bid and gave us some creative design ideas since we weren't sure of the specifics of certain aspects of the job. (which we ended up using). We got the bid from him that evening and found his price to be more than reasonable compared to our other bids. He showed up as scheduled to begin the work and completed the work within the time frame he quoted. He checked in with us daily to make sure his design matched our expectations. He and his crew cleaned up after themselves and everything went according to plan. I found him very pleasant to work with and we are thrilled with the finished product. I would definitely recommend Lee.

This is the 3rd job that Lee has completed for me and as always the work was efficient, high-quality and reasonably priced. A few years back, Lee did all of the hardscaping work which included a serpentine brick walkway that started at the front of my property line and wrapped around the house 150 feet to the back gate. Beautiful work! Lee and his team are true craftsman.

Initial estimate was to replace deteriorated outdoor tile (on side and front patios) with concrete. Lee suggested a good cost-effective alternative to install pavers instead. Pricing was competitive. On expected dates, workers came promptly and finished the three-day job, one day early. Drainage was also improved. Subsequent heavy rain drained properly from both patios. Proper drainage was previously a concern. Neighbors subsequently commented that the workers were very neat and were careful not to disturb adjoining areas. Both patios look absolutely great. Very pleased with results.

The Garage Floor was poured with expertise, and tied to our foundation. I was impressed with the fact that just as the "finisher" completed the job our 5 month old labrador retriever puppy ran across it leaving pawprints in the freshly poured concrete. Without hesitation and with a kind smile, the finisher went back over the area to smooth away the prints. The Belgard Paver Driveway was even, properly installed with polymeric sand between the cracks and then sealed. The sealant was a little slippery on the extreme sloped area of the driveway, so I would recommend skipping the sealer if this is the case on your driveway, but asking Lee for other options. The stucco looks beautiful and the caps were level. The staircase up to the house was very complicated. It is a very short area to rise a good distance. In that at first glance, it looked "do"able, when the measurements were taken, it was a problem. Lee immediately told us that he was unable to resolve the issue and recommended we hire an engineer. It took a week to come up with a solution (and several people walked away scratching their heads), and all the while, Lee remained, patient and professional. In the end, he poured the staircase in accordance with our specs and did a fantastic job. This was the first experience hiring a contractor and in retrospect, I would have had specs drawn up ahead of time for the job. Lee was in no way to blame for any issues that came up, it was a problem area, as evidenced by the many people walking way scratching their heads. Lee gets major points for communicating the problem to us in a polite and respectful manner, and advising on how to resolve it through an engineer. We are thankful that he DID NOT just pour the staircase as best he could, which would have resulted in us being very unhappy with the final result. Instead, he paused, gave us options and remained patient until a resolution was at hand.
Description of Work: Pour a partial garage floor, in concrete, conforming to methane buffer zone standards in the City of LA. Install 90 Foot Belgard Paver Driveway Stucco 2 garden walls. Cap 2 garden walls. Pour Staircase from Driveway to house and finish in flagstone.

They started the work at 7.30 A. M. and ended at 5.30 P. M. Their job was excellent and perfect. I live in a town house due to which they had to carry the concrete in 5 gallon buckets and climb a flight of stairs to reach the back patio. They were so good that I didn't even notice they were there. I had another guy give me a quote but found McCarly cheaper.
