Description of Work: Back in 2007, we had an complete copper repipe in our 2-story house. Before choosing MasterServe, we had many estimates. They were not the lowest, nor the highest. We like their plan for installing the new pipe throughout our 2-story house. They did a great job. They were very professional and they replaced the dry wall in the various spots where they had to open up the wall & ceilings. We had low water presser in some areas of the house and they corrected that and all our 3 showers cannow be used at the same time without diminished pressure or running out of hot water. They also installed an instant hot water feature that is awesome. It saves us from having to run the water a long time before getting hot (saving a lot of water usage).. Master Serve did the job quickly and efficiently. Their workers were friendly, efficient, and cleaned up all areas they were working in each day before they left. More recently (August 2012), we had a leak in the upstairs shower. We called Master Serve and their plumber came out the very next day. They accepted the responsibility and made the necessary repairs at no cost to us. You couldn't ask for any service better than that. We would certainly recommend them. .

I absolutely tell anybody if they want to be re-piped, they are awesome. Everything was excellent with them. I like their responsiveness, the professional way that they handled everything from start to finish and the whole job. I think they are the best in this area.

They warrant their work for a lifetime. This family-owned business is excellent to work with! They do not use subcontrators. Their prices are competitive. The quality of their work is outstanding! They work quick and usually place a few men on the job. They are efficient and they clean up well.
Description of Work: They installed copper piping in a rental house. I then used them to install copper piping in my home. My home cost about $5000 to complete.

They started at $8500 for services. They had an offer for a tankless water heater, $1500, and I already have one so they deducted the $1500. I was listening to the radio and heard a special for 30% off and a tankless water heater for October which was not offered to me. They said they would look into it. I have called multiple times and they never called me back. I am very upset about this. Also, upon inspection last night (October 27th), I happened to notice, under both toilets, they forgot to patch the holes in the wall near the toilets, resulting in the walls not being paint-ready.

Response from Repiping Professionals
We spoke to the member this morning at length regarding her complaint. In reference to the multiple calls into the office and her inability to reach the person who could address her concerns, the person who we had taking customer service calls that did not deal with the member correctly and get her to the appropriate person has been removed from that position in the organization and has been replaced so this will no longer be an issue. Once we discovered the fact that there were two small holes that were missed behind the toilets, we immediately sent our Patcher out there to take care of it. In regards to the 30% discount we spoke with the member about this and clarified with her as evidenced by the contract which she has a copy of that she did in fact receive a 30% discount. However, per the member the sales representative did not point out the basic Repipe cost from which the 30% was deducted. The basic Repipe cost was $12,040. The 30% discount that she received was $3216. She also received an additional discount of $1438 in lieu of the free Tankless water heater offer that we have going since she already had a Tankless water heater. In the end her total Repipe cost was $6990, a very competitive bid for the work involved in the repiping of her home. We apologized to the member for the lack of attention over the course of the 4 days that she was attempting to reach someone to address her concerns. The conversation we had with her this morning ended well and we will be mailing documentation of the basic list price for her edification and records. We hope that this addresses any concerns arisen by the member's report and once again apologize for the inconvenience created on our part. Elizabeth Oman, CEA

Using MasterServ is a perfect example of the pros and cons of using a big company. They were able to offer a lower price (by several hundred dollars) than other estimates I received because they specialize in volume (and not necessarily quality). The estimator who came was extremely pleasant and professional, however, internal communication in this company is a disaster. Therefore, small details like getting a new shower valve installed and installign new shower heads were initially overlooked by the installers because this wasn't communicated between the estimator and the crew. I never met the so-called project manager, who should have been there the first day to make sure everyone was on the same page about what was to be done. It was explained to me by the estimator that it would be a two-day job (true). The first day, the crew showed up and spent about two hours cutting holes in the walls and prepping the house. The second day they were there from 7 AM until 830 at night, working like crazy to get it done that day -- very stressful. When I saw that they hadn't installed the new shower valve, I got some grief from the crew and the so-called project manager over the phone, and this was eventually rectified with me paying an extra $200 to have the crew come back for an hour or so to install. When the job was complete they had disconnected and capped some old galvanized pipes, but with the new water pressure they blew out a couple weeks later (because they make their money by moving fast, quality and client communication suffer!). The guy they sent to do the drywall patching was a total incompetent. He showed up a couple days after the plumbing work was done started work and left mid-day saying he'd be back the next day to finish, though he never did return. I called the so-called project manager who was surprised to hear that the job wasn't done and it took a few more days for them to schedule a new guy to come out who had to re-do everything because the first guy was incompetent. In the final analysis, this company was the cheapest alternative, but there were a lot of headaches -- stay on top of them and make sure they do the work correctly!

Overall, the plumbing work that they did was fine. I have no complaints there. They wanted to originally tear out a tree, but we didn't want that to happen. Instead, they shaved off all of the flowers on a plant covering a wall in my backyard. They ruined the whole view of my backyard. They were just very careless and had poor judgment when trimming my plant.

I have to say the sales man, Tony P., was very professional. He knew his product and gave recommendations to us on our project. The great thing is that the finished product comes with a Lifetime Warranty, others couldn't beat that. We will be recommending this company at our association meeting, come Friday.
Description of Work: Tony P, the salesman, asked and we were reluctant to disclose this prior. We had 6 estimates ranging from 3500.00-10,500.00 for a complete re-pipe of our 880 sq ft condo. The first estimate we received was 6,500.00 for just the hot water, 1 yr warranty. Then we were quoted 10,500.00, gasp, for both hot and cold, 5 year warranty. MasterServ's price of 4387.00 included the complete re-pipe, type L copper, new switches on everything, permit, new bath/washer fixtures, patching and THE LIFETIME WARRANTY!

MasterServ was actually the highest of the three quotes we received. They agreed to match the middle quote that we had, knocking a few hundred dollars off of their price. It was still $1600 over the lowest quote. My wife decided that we should go with this company because she worried that the lowest bid would be using cheaper parts and felt that MasterServ was concerned about doing a good job. (Since then, I have heard from other people who had repiping done and the lower quote actually sounds like the most reasonable one). They quoted a two day job. What that really turns out to mean is that they spent two days on the repiping, two days on patching, and then a final day to have the housing inspector come over to sign off on the job. The repiping part also took longer than they predicted. They told us they would be done about 2PM on the second day but they actually didn't finish until after 7PM. The time it took did not bother me as I felt that the people doing the actual repiping wanted to make sure that they had everything correct. What causes me to give them such a low rating is what happened after the pipes were reconnected. When we went into the guest bathroom the next morning, we discovered a pool of water on the floor. We discovered that the sink drain was leaking and water had run out from under the sink. When I called MasterServ they said it was not their problem as they did not work on the drain, only on the hot and cold intake. I guess they expected me to believe that they did not damage the drain pipe (via bumping into it or maybe hitting it was they were working the copper pipes into place) and that it had decided on its own to start leaking the day they did their work. The supervisor agreed to fix the leak and the guy who was to do the patching would fix it. Also, the water caused the sheet vinyl in the room buckle along the wall where the water collected. I mentioned this to the supervisor and asked him to look at it because we were worried about the possibility of getting dry rot. The patcher worked on the leak. He said the supervisor would call us about the flooring. He did not. After two days I called their office and asked someone to look at the flooring. No one called back. I called them again and asked what was happening. They said the supervisor had closed the log saying that I had agreed that it was not their fault. I, of course, had said no such thing. They told me the supervisor would call me. I waited a day and since I was not called, I called them again. Again no call back. When I called the next time (4th time) they gave me the supervisors cell number. I called him and left him a message. Two more days have passed and no call from him. At this point, I will not call them again. It is pointless.
Description of Work: We had the old piping in the house replaced with copper piping. We have a one story house. They had to repipe two bathrooms, the kitchen, and connections to 3 set of exterior water lines (front, side, and back sprinkler connections). Also, when they started the job, they indicated that a p-trap needed to be installed on one of the lines to bring it to code. This was to be an additional charge ($174).

Everything was very professional and the work was exceptionally well done. The clean up was done very well. When the gentleman came out to give me the estimate, he clearly explained to me all of the work that was going to be performed and told me that I could cancel within in three days and receive a complete refund of your money. Everything had a transferable life-time warranty including labor. I thought their cost was very reasonable.

Master Serv does a very good "sell" in the estimate appointment - you learn all about their high quality materials, references, lifetime warranty, etc. The appointment takes a while because the estimator has to visualize and draw a diagram of where the new plumbing will be installed in order to calculate the cost (actually an impressive process). After reviewing the proposal and deciding to move forward, the estimator came back out to have us sign the contract. The job took a week and the crew was very professional. It's quite impressive to see surgery being done on your house. We had one issue immediately after completion - there was a leak at the water heater (we caught it in time to avoid major damage). We called the service number and someone was out later that afternoon/evening to fix it. Two re-plasterers came out and repaired the holes in the ceilings and walls the following week (two days work).

It was a catastrophe! We had a flood within 12 hours of the completion of Master serv's work. The flood did $102,000 worth of damage to the house and we were forced to move into a hotel for 4 1/2 months. Our insurance company- Allstate - stepped up to the plate. Master serv did come later and replace the faulty new water heater. The problem was that their workers (who were unsupervised during the work) capped an unthreaded copper pipe with A THREADED PLASTIC CAP AND PIPE TAPE ! My wife arrived home from work to find water running out the kitchen door and shut off the main. No City of LA permits were pulled . Master serv is allowed to certify their own work. I pulled my own permit after the flood and found another plastic cap and two code violations. The city and state were no help .They're more interested in protecting their jobs. I have all the damage on video tape. I'm considering legal action. They are still allowed to certify their own work. Our attic fell into our bedroom!
Description of Work: They did a copper re-pipe on a 3 bath home on a slab foundation. All the plumbing is in the attic. A new water heater was installed to increase capacity. Master serv was the highest of 2 bids. We chose them because of their "lifetime" warranty. The salesman and the sales pitch were very professional. They advertise on a big radio station and have been in business since 1948. They said they had 80 crews. They seemed like the outfit to use to replace our 50 year old pipes and prevent a flood in the attic.

I did have a problem with a few things regarding this company. While digging the hole, they dug upon my few thousand dollar bushes that had taken 75 years to grow. The bushes really upset me because that was the whole reason I had bought the house in the first place. Also, they did not insulate the piping that was under the house either. There were few other things that I can not remember at this time as well. I feel they are a legitimate company, but, I feel they just sent out problem solvers to try to solve the problems. They did eventually fix everything. As for my bushes, well the owner came out personally and compensated me $1,000 for the bushes. It was not what they were worth, but, that was very professional of him. I do not wish to discuss pricing at this time.

Pros: 1) 2 man crew worked 2 days to get all the plumbing work done. They were here at 8:00 in the morning and stayed until after dark ('til almost 8:00 the 2nd day). I don't believe I saw them take a break in all the time they were here. Floors where they worked were carefully covered and they cleaned up daily. Both men were very polite and professional. 2) When minor problems arose, they were very cooperative in solving them to suit my preferences. 3) They not only removed the old material and water heater, but disconnected and hauled away an outdated and rusted out solar tank and it's piping. 3) Price. They beat my next best estimate by about 60%. 4) Material used was heavy Type-L copper pipe and commercial quality valves (I checked). Cons: 1) 2 minor problems (one was due to a lazy inspector) caused the job to not pass inspection the first time. Inspector is due back on Monday. 2) It took over a week to get the trenches in my front yard filled in.
Description of Work: Complete copper re-pipe of an older 1500 SQ. FT. home with kitchen, 1 bath and laundry facilities in the garage. Work included a new supply line from the water main, removal of an old water heater from one location and installation of a new one at a different location, replacement of all supply valves, replacement of shower valve and shower head, and 2 new brass hose bibs outside the house. Work also included patching (ready for paint) all the holes in the wall - including where old fixtures were removed and a couple that were there before they started work.
