It went very well from start to finish. He kept me informed as things were progressing. He was easy to talk to and good at communicating what needed to be done.
Description of Work: Robert came and gave an estimate to repair and replace a block wall that was damaged by a driver. He removed the debris and rebuilt the wall from the base. He reinforced the new wall and made it very solid. It was a curved wall and he did a beautiful job on the wall. The new wall looks seamless. The curves are very smooth and flowing. He cleaned-up everything carefully and did a great job.

Bob did a great job for us. He worked with independent structural engineers, city inspectors and the planning department on our behalf to meet all of their requirements.. He and his crew worked fast to complete our job within a short time frame. The job was neat and clean, I would recommend Bob to anyone that needs work done.

After the Northridge earthquake, we had pilasters installed to shore up the existing slumpstone walls surrounding the backyard. Recently we noticed that some of the pilasters were detaching from the actual wall, but it wasn't until one actually toppled over that we realized that they contained no rebar supports, nor were attached to the wall. So in other words, they were merely decorative and only gave the illusion of support. Since we live on a corner and there were pilasters along the public-facing sidewalk (a lawsuit waiting to happen), we needed to remedy the situation ASAP. We used Angie's List to research local companies who do masonry work. Based on the reviews, Robert Palacios Masonry was highly recommended and we were pleased to receive a call back within 24 hours. I emailed some photos via my iPhone and Bob was able to drop by and provide an estimate the same day. We felt that he gave an honest assessment of what needed to be done and quoted us a fair price. He provided various options, but also gave his recommendation as to the 'best' option vs. a more 'economical' option. The following day we received another estimate which was lower, but we chose to use Robert Palacios Masonry since he didn't cut any corners and we felt that we would be getting a lasting and quality product. Bob's company was able to start work the following day which was important to us. On the promised start date, he and his crew arrived promptly and they always kept us informed of the progress of the project. After a backyard shed was removed, he discovered some previously hidden cracks in a wall that needed repair. Again, we were quoted us a fair price to make those additional repairs. Another plus was that whenever the crew left for the day, the yard was left in a tidy state, which we appreciated. We are very pleased with the wall repair and pilaster replacement provided by Robert Palacios Masonry and would not hesitate to recommend this company to others.

From the start Robert, his foreman (Nico), and the rest of the crew were professional and easy to work with. We selected his bid because of his professional no nonsense approach and a promise to meet a tight schedule. He and his crew exceeded expectations at every turn. The entire job went like clockwork from start to finish with the only delay imposed by heavy rain. The crew showed up on time each day at 7:00 AM and worked diligently until the tasks for that day were completed. The crew always kept the jobsite organized and cleaned up the jobsite before leaving each day. Workmanship is top notch. The walls are good looking, solid, laser straight, level, and plumb. We could not be happier with the process or the results.

Great job. He arrived as promised and went over what I needed. I received an estimate for two ways to complete the work by e-mail the next day. He got the permits he needed and started work the next week. He was attentive and explained what his workers were doing and how long he thought it would take. The work was exactly what I needed. The price was reasonable. Quality work and I would recommend his work to anyone that needs masonry work.

Six years ago, I had some hardscaping done by a local contractor. Cracks began to appear due to the foundation not being properly prepped and the edging not properly being finished. I wanted to extend the life of the hardscaping and avoid a large investment in future. I called Bob after getting his number on Angies list. He called back quickly and came right over. He explained in detail what the job would entail and quoted me. Once I had decided to move forward, things moved quickly. I was introduced to the foreman and the work proceeded as discussed. Wonderful experience. Very professional. It was a two day job and there was no stoppage in work either day. On time each morning and great cleanup.
Description of Work: Repaired brick front walkway. Removed brick pavers. Repaired concrete foundation and replaced with new pavers in two areas. Repaired cracks in flagstone back patio and finished edging to prevent future cracking. Also, repaired cracks in rock fountain in corner of backyard.

This is our second experience with Bob Palacios Masonry, and this one was a much bigger job than the first. Mr. Palacios was on site frequently throughout the course of the work, which took almost two weeks. He showed up when he said he would, and his workers were always absolutely on time. The only hitch in the project was when we discovered the additional root damage to the second patio slab and the 12' slider, at which time we decided to go ahead and replace the additional patio slab. Mr. Palacios gave us a very fair price on the additional work, and the work resumed immediately. Friends have described patio demolition as a really messy job, with concrete dust seeping into the house no matter what. Mr. Palacios' crew kept dust to the absolute minimum, and there was none of the additional housework we had anticipated. I think the single most memorable detail in the matter is how very meticulous the crew was in cleaning up, both at the end of the day and at the end of the project. Once again, we recommend Mr. Palacios and his firm with absolute confidence. We could not have chosen a better contractor for the job.
Description of Work: A dirt patio outside the master bedroom was turned into a concrete patio, with earth areas remaining as desired by our landscaper. Tree roots had seriously damaged one half of the patio outside our kitchen/family room, and it turned out that the roots had caused further damage to the remaining half and to the base of the patio door. The entire back patio was demolished and replaced, and the missing concrete support for the 12' patio door was replaced.

Bob was prompt in answering my messages, knowledgeable, practical and specific about presenting options and recommendations, and was the only one (of 3 other contractors) to fully scope the site and bring up all the potential considerations, including city permits (which he offered to expedite for me if needed.) Though not the cheapest, he was by far the BEST value for the reasonable price he charged. I wouldn't hesitate to call him again, and I plan on using him to do a major renovation of hardscape (retaining walls & patios) in my back yard in a couple of years. Go Bob!

A number of bricks in a 1970's era brick pilaster at our front doorway needed replacing. I had previously dealt with another local mason to whom I had been referred by mutual acquaintances. After giving me a reasonable estimate and taking a $100 up-front materials payment, he returned with bricks and mortar and repaired one brick. He then disappeared, never to return. After several weeks of trying to get in touch with the original mason, I consulted Angie's List and saw the review of Mr. Palacios' business. I contacted him, he showed up the next day and gave me an estimate, which was essentially the same as the mason who had flaked out on me.Mr. Palacios was involved in several big projects, and squeezing in my little, one-day/one person job took awhile. That was no problem, as the repair was time-sensitive. When performed, the work was done just right, and a lot of debris from brick removal was cleaned up meticulously.Mr. Palacios has given me estimates on other projects, and they seem to be entirely reasonable and, especially compared to the estimates for similar work for friends in the San Fernando Valley have been, they are a real bargain. I plan to go ahead with those projects, and I plan to use Mr. Palacios' services.
Description of Work: Mr. Palacios repaired/replaced crumbling brickwork in a pilaster by our front door. The work went smoothly and was done very professionally, at a reasonable price.

Our HOA had recommended 2 contractors to build our block wall, and Bob Palacios was one of them. His knowledge of our community was extensive and the price he gave was unbeatable. He helped to obtain the permit as well as negotiated terms with our HOA. He gave an excellent bid for the job and secured my trust when he did not ask for any deposits before starting the job. Bob built the wall beautifully and I was very happy to pay him when the job was completed on time and on budget. I would highly recommend him for any future masonry job.
Description of Work: Replace wrought-iron fencing with a 5'6", 133-foot long slump-stone wall along property.
