Description of Work: "The Customer Service by Barry Sheldon, Owner is outstanding!!! He arrives at the initial consultation appointment, and is there on the tear out day and continues to be a part of your remodel until completion. He has excellent insight into what you would like and provides the necessary photo's and suggestions based on your home, he is always available. He takes your project personally as if he were remodeling his own home. We always felt at ease with his staff and the cleanup at the end of their day was perfect. We love our new steps, sidewalk and patio!!!"

Description of Work: poured new walkway from driveway to front door and small "court yard" next to walkway; poured sidewalk next to driveway all along side of house to back of house to back yard patio. Did exactly what they said they would do; did it on time and were very responsive and professional in their work.

Job was done perfectly.
Description of Work: I had a new concrete driveway installed. Before the crew arrived, I had the old asphalt driveway removed, the dirt removed and the framing in place. The crew spread, leveled and compacted the gravel base, installed the rebar, double check my framing and then poured and finished the concrete driveway.

Description of Work: Barry was absolutely wonderful and exactly what we needed. After getting almost 10 other bids to completely redo our large circle driveway with stamped concrete, Barry was a breath of fresh air. He is extremely knowledgable (as concrete is his specialty) -- he answered all of our questions and educated us on a number of points none of the previous folks we met with even bothered to mention. He was genuinely interested in us getting the job done right whether it was by him or someone else. His price was very fair and actually quite a bit lower than some of the other bids we received. | |Before the work began, he made sure all of our questions were answered and helped us make decisions on how to proceed. He guided us on getting the needed permit and quickly scheduled a start date for the project that worked well for us. | |When it came time to start the job, he always arrived exactly when he said that he would and his crew was very friendly and professional. Barry was onsite himself at the beginning of the demo and worked hands on during the pouring of the concrete. He respected our aesthetic and helped us pick a pattern and color that we both liked and felt confident would last well. | |Barry never pressured us and was super supportive and attentive throughout the entire project. | |We will definitely use Barry again for other concrete needs. After talking to so many different types of folks for over a year, we were so relieved and thankful to find Barry and finally get our new driveway underway. The project was completed quickly and carefully. We are thrilled with how it turned out.

Barry returned my call very fast and came out for a quote the same day. I had other quotes already but did not pass this info to him as I wanted a "clean" bid. I also asked him to explain to me what it would take to do the work and the steps he would take. His quote came in very close to the lowest one I had but his explanation and knowledge made him the clear winner. He and his crew showed up on time (4days after the quote) and got right to work. It was very nice to see Barry right in the middle with the rest of his crew working hard instead of just dropping some guys off or "supervising". It was the worst weather for this work as the temp was 90-105 each day. The guys working with him where amazing, the bobcat driver was like a ballet dancer in it. One side was a high block wall with red bricks on the other edge connected to the driveway. He was fast and never so much as bumped either side. The driveway once the side was cleared was finally able to be seen and whoever poured it needs to be tracked down and smacked. There was not a smooth curve or thickness in it. Barry pulled out his Laser level and took so many readings it was amazing, then using the information he was able to get the base ground right so we matched and had the right thickness as I am going to park a 30ft 5th wheel on it. The guys all worked very clean and kept the yard clean all day and amazingly clean before they left each day. The day of the pore(7am start) watching Barry in there with his guys making sure the rebar was in the right place and moving and smothing the concrete was like they could read each others minds they worked so smooth. Everything looked great when they where done by 10am. I took my kids to the store and got back for lunch, after getting them food I happened to look outside and there are 2 neighbor boys riding their bike and razor over my 4hour old concrete! After yelling at them from the window they left and I went out to see the damage! Nice little tire tracks as they had been doing circles on the new area! I called Barry up and he was back in no time at all. After looking at it he said there where only a few placed where they had scratched it and they had not collapsed any edges or stress lines. He said most of it would fade but he could broom it out but the area's done would look different that the rest so we decided to leave it be. 4 weeks later yes I can see them if I look but having pulled the 5th wheel off and on a few times they are all but invisible now. Over all how did it turn out? Amazing! Every time I had a question before, during or after the job Barry has taken the time to answer my questions and his knowledge of having done this for 30+ years really shows! I would recommend them for any concrete work at anytime!
Description of Work: Barry cleared a 14x60 foot strip of grass on the side of our driveway to expand it so we could park our RV on it and gain back our whole driveway. He also built a low wall across the front on our yard so we could level the grass that used to slope to the street at a high angle. He had to remove a tree in the center of the grass area that was 60feet tall or so and remove all the grass and old sprinklers. In the front yard he needed to dig the footing for the wall along the sidewalk. The ground is so hard here the guys digging the footing had to use a jack hammer to cut the footing out.

The job went on time and only took 2 days to complete. My drive is small so I am sure some jobs take longer. But BR Sheldon's crew is on time everyday and cleans up after everyday. Very professional.
Description of Work: I needed to have my old original to the house driveway replaced. The old one was cracked and not wide enough. I called B.R. Sheldon Concrete because of his excellent reviews on Angie's. Berry Sheldon showed up right on time for the estimate and gave me what I thought was a fair price. More then that though I felt Berry really knew his business and I felt comfortable to give him my business. Berry and his people showed up on time both days during the job and everything we talked about was done just how I asked. Berry explained the job as it progressed, so I would know what was going on. It took only 2 days start to finish. I could not be happier with my choice of concrete companies. I highly recommend BR Sheldon Concrete.

Description of Work: I had the same job quoted from six providers. Barry was the last and i felt immediately comfortable he would do a great job. Throughout the job he was very punctual and reachable. He was present for the entire pour and most of the prep. The job entailed removing walkway, saw cutting around a cabinet, installing drainage, moving dirt, haulaway and the pour itself. Total of 800 sq ft including a driveway extension. 65 lb stackable legacy blocks lined one side , partially buried for stability. Barry understood every detail perfectly for drain locations, pour heights, finish and was so easy to work with. We altered the original bid and adjustments were always very fair. I was out of town when prep work completed and job poured. Usually I wouldn't trust leaving a job but because Barry was always easy to reach I let him complete it on schedule. Final result was perfect. He noticed my tools got mixed in with his and he returned before I mentioned it. I'm thrilled with result!

Mr. Sheldon was extremely professional and courteous and came out the same day to provide a quote for a small driveway extension project. In providing the estimate I could tell that Mr. Sheldon would be great to work with, and I would not hesitate to use his services should I need another concrete project. His price was competitive with another contractor who I perceived to be of similar quality so we ended up flipping a coin to choose. I would definitely recommend Mr. Sheldon should anyone I know mention their need of a concrete contractor.

Wonderful, start to finish. Barry was on time for the estimate, gave me various options from plain concrete to concrete with brick ribbon. His price was very competitive. He and his crew were on time to perform the job and cleaned up each day. My neighbors commented that they liked the way his crew worked. He suggested an additional section of brick which really added beauty to the design. He completed the job on schedule and personally performed the final clean-up. I wish I had done this 10 years ago. Barry and his crew are a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him.

Barry was absolutely wonderful from the time he came to give an estimate. Unlike other companies that came to give me estimates, Barry spent time telling me about concrete, how it's poured, the materials used, benefits of color vs. staining, and the various options for stamping. He even got out his tool to measure the current grade of the ground in his first visit. He then provided an estimate including various options for stamping and color. This was a nice touch as he knew I was on a budget for the project. His estimate wasn't the cheapest or most expensive, but he was a person you feel you can trust right away. The job had to be rescheduled once due to a graduation, but I was OK with that. After the job started, Barry was with his crew the entire time. When I came home, I'd sometimes find him doing the work as well. On the first day of demo, Barry went over the various colors and stamping patterns, pointing out which were cheaper and which would require more laborers. On the day of the pour, the weather was cool and overcast. Barry suggested that I texture stamp the entire driveway, as opposed to just the patio and entry way. Since the concrete wasn't going to set as fast, he could get the entire job done with the laborers he had (saved me $800!). The finished product looked fantastic. I'd highly recommend Barry to anyone looking to redo their driveway.

I contacted six contractors to bid on the job. Barry "Buzz" Sheldon was right on time with the appointment, spent a good deal of time with me answering questions, showing me pictures of his work, and offering suggestions to consider. The bid was received within a few days of the visit. He also provided reference sites for me to go to and see his work. While not the lowest bid, the pricing was very fair. After checking out the sites, I signed the contract and started making preparations for the work, selecting colors, patterns, etc. Throughout the process, I was assured that if there would be ways to economize, he would pass it by me first, but would not jeopardize quality. There might be things I could do that would keep the pricing down, and he pointed them out. The only thing I felt comfortable with was rolling on the sealer in a month's time. I left the other things he suggested (such as power-washing, etc.) to him. Buzz was always very prompt in returning emails, always answered the phone, and was very patient with a concrete neophyte such as myself. We set a date a few weeks out for the work to begin. Bright and early, Buzz was there with his crew to do the demolition and preparation for the pour. It's important to note that Buzz was there on the job site working and supervising from beginning to end.The demolition and base prep took a day, the forming another, with the concrete pour on the third day. Each day everyone was there early, my neighbors even commenting to me when I returned home from work how hard everyone was working at my home. The best part was that at the end of each day, they left the site immaculate. When I was not there, he kept me abreast of progress through phone calls throughout the day. I was there for the third day -- the concrete pour. In other reviews people talk about Buzz's attention to detail -- it was certainly evident during my job. He was on top of everything, and I mean everything! He did all the final finishing work himself, and when one stress groove that was done by one of his workers was a little off (honestly, I couldn't see it), he insisted that it all be troweled over completely and redone. That happened a couple of times -- he works towards perfection and the results definitely show that. The crew worked past the original ending time, again, to make sure everything on this driveway, walkway, sidewalk and drain was perfect. The sealing of the driveway will happen in a month, but from what I now have, I couldn't be happier. His work is truly spectacular. This is a case of "I should have done this sooner!" I honestly wish I had more concrete work for him to do. To work with (not just deal with) someone with that kind of work ethic, attention to detail, and just being an all around nice guy, is a pleasure. As one reviewer put it, I, too, wish he was my neighbor -- he's that kind of individual. I don't give accolades easily, but Buzz certainly deserves them. I can only imagine some of his more extensive work. Mine was just a driveway and walkway, and it's brilliant! My neighbors are just as thrilled as I am with the quality of the work. There's nothing like a HUGE beautiful driveway to dress up my end of the street! If you're considering a contractor for driveways, stamped concrete and fine finishing, definitely give Buzz a call. I would have never found him had it not been for Angie's List -- as the commercials say "Thanks, Angie!" And Buzz, if you're reading this, Thank YOU!!!

Meeting was informative.
Description of Work: I met with Buzz regarding concrete for an area in my backyard. I found him to be very professional, knowledgeable, and punctual. The estimate I received was appropriate for the work to be done. After meeting with Buzz, I have great confidence is his abilities. He was going to try to fit our work into his schedule, however, the timing didn't work out. Due to the fact that we needed to complete the work sooner than Buzz was able to schedule it, we were not able to use him for our project. I would definitely use him for any future work we need done at our home.

Mr. Sheldon was always there supervising and working with me closely. I am very very picky and I know a lot about construction. I do a lot of my own work. He listened and guided me in the areas where my knowledge was lacking. He made sure the concrete drained correctly. His finishers did a great job on the stamping. His guys also did a firepit and rock step outside the patio door for us with rock that my wife and I purchased at a local stone distributor. Barry gave us a good referral for a plumber who went above and beyond while installing our gas lines for the firepit and our BBQ. All the work was coordinated well. Everyone acted professionally and respectfully of our home. On the last day of contruction of the firepit, I was finally able to set up our table and chairs and eat lunch with the guys for the first time on our beautiful new patio. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the end result.

"Buzz" was recommended to me by the plumber we had been using for a couple of years. I obtained several bids for this job. Buzz wasn't the cheapest and he wasn't the most expensive. Two years later, the driveway is still gorgeous. Buzz turned out to be one of the most honest and hard-working persons I've ever met. He did exactly what he said he would do. Always on time, always left the yard clean at the end of the day. Dr. King once said something about judging a person on the content of their character. Buzz gets an A+++++ for content of character. Yes, I would hire him again. The kind of guy you wish was your next-door neighbor.

Very nice guy who lived up to his representations. I'm one who doesn't hunt up the cheapest possible price (I had a "sort of" quote from one guy for $900 to do this), but based on my pricing out the materials, etc, I think his price was fair. We all have had plenty of miserable experience with trade contractors, and I can say unqualifiedly this one is a very pleasant exception.

The best thing about B.R. Sheldon construction is Barry "Buzz" Sheldon himself. It's rare to find someone so thorough and professional and honest. From our first meeting with him, my wife and I felt complete trust in his character. He is a man of the utmost integrity and honesty. Our 40-year-old, 90' long asphalt driveway was in really bad shape. It was too narrow for today's huge SUVs; tree roots and age had rendered it wavy and cracked. We had gotten several other bids for the job and selected Barry Sheldon to do the work. Even before submitting his bid, Barry spent quite a long time taking laser measurements of the pitch; he spoke with us about widening, etc.. He offered some suggestions. Most of all, he LISTENED to what we wanted and made notes. Other contractors showed us their portfolios and told us what THEY thought should be done, without really listening to us. Barry's bid was right in the middle of the other bids. It was about $14,000. We later asked him to add the planters, a brick post for a driveway light, the brick walkway, etc.. He did great work, shopped for our materials, brought us samples, etc.. He was here on site during every phase. On the day they poured the concrete he was in there pitching in --- supervising everything like a mother hen. They did the work on time and within the budget. He and his crew were very polite --- we never heard loud music or profanity that often accompanies construction workers. They worked hard. One example of Barry's integrity: the day after they had extended and resurface the brick porch steps, Barry called me aside and told me that his mason had made the first step a little higher than the other two --- less than an inch. I would never have noticed the difference if he hadn't pointed it out. He apologized and said they would re-do it. I told him he didn't have to do that --- that it was OK to leave it alone. But it bothered him. He had them undo the work they had done the day before and redo it. It took them a few hours to fix it -- he ate the cost. Anyway, it's been almost six months and every time I see my new driveway I think of the really nice guy that did such a great job. During the recent rains it drained perfectly and our grandkids have a nice flat surface to ride their bikes or play basketball. I would recommend Barry Sheldon to anyone --- and I have.
Description of Work: Barry "Buzz" Sheldon's company put in a new concrete driveway and brick walkways, planters and faced the porch with brick. He also removed an old picket fence and built a new rail fence with pressure-treated lumber. Likewise, he removed and replaced a trellis over the driveway. The work included removing and hauling away the existing old asphalt driveway, grading, and preparing surfaces; determining pitch and drainage with laser equipment; he also removed our entire front lawn, graded and filled in the surface and prepared it for a new lawn. Barry selected brick for the borders, wood for the fence and trellis and was on site for every phase of the work.

My wife and I interviewed 6 companies for this job. Concrete can be pricey and it's going to be a part of our home for many years to come so we wanted this decision to be the right one. Sheldon Concrete was not the lowest bid we got. It wasn't the highest one either. We knew we had to replace our sewer line and our main water feed line to the house as well, so we had to keep a tight budget on this driveway. Buzz worked in sync with our plumber as far as coordinating when the asphalt demo would be done, when water pipe trenches needed to be dug, etc. I am so pleased to say the entire driveway/water main/sewer project went as planned, on schedule and on budget. You know how when someone comes to your house to give you an estimate for a job and as soon as they pull away there are times when you say to yourself "There's no way that guy is fixing my roof or building my fence or touching my washing machine!" and then there are times when you say "Not only was that a decent estimate, and he seems extremely competent, but we could be friends with that guy!" That's the impression I got from meeting Buzz. Now that the job is done, I can say not only does he take obvious pride in his work, but he truly knows the meaning of customer satisfaction and does his very best to deliver. Here is a good, decent and fair individual, who happens to be an expert in pouring concrete. I don't want to overstate my point or sound hokey here, but I wish every time I had to pick up the phone to get an estimate for anything home-owner related, there was a Buzz on the other end. Pun unintentional! If you're considering a new driveway or concrete work, you should give this guy a call and at the very least, meet him and get a bid. We're glad we did. Yeah, I know I sound like such a goofy clich? ' TV commercial here, but we really ARE glad we found him. Besides, this is why I joined Angie's List. To hear about the good, the bad and the ugly from other homeowners and renters.
Description of Work: Buzz (an extremely patient man) came to our house at least 5 times to answer all of our questions which helped us make the best choice in deciding on type, color, style, pattern etc. in choosing a driveway. His crew demolished and removed our old asphalt driveway - prepped the area for the pour - poured, patterned and stamped the new driveway. Buzz (a hands-on guy) was there every step of the way. The reason the final invoice was lower than the original bid was because the square footage of our driveway was right on the bubble for needing a additional load of concrete. Buzz stated if he could do the job with just one truckload of concrete, he would be able to drop $200 from the final invoice.
