Straight Line Construction, founded in 1999, specializing in Roofing, Gutters and Siding. We maintain 14 license classifications allowing us to provide a single point of service and the highest levels of quality. Our 50+ employees have many years of experience and a drive to create Raving Fans!
We have previously used Straight Line to replace our roof. When we got a referral for deck work from our neighbor, we contacted them to see about repairing our deck. We had another bid, but found that Straight Line's cost was a little lower. We did have to wait a few weeks for the work to be done due to their full schedule, but they completed the work in one day with excellent results. The owner called several times before the work was done to let us know the approximate date of service, then followed up after the repairs were completed to make sure we were satisfied. They were scrupulous in cleaning up after the work was completed. Since this is our second excellent experience with Straight Line, I would not hesitate to recommend them. We will be having them back to replace a couple of retaining walls in our yard.

It went very well. I got bid from three different companies and Straight Line did go up the roof and it turned out that they miss the size so they have to order a costumed and I wasn't surprise because of the nature of the construction of the house for a skylight on the roof. The field crew that came to the house were very professional, constantly cleaning up and work for safety and the final price was more than the original bid but they seem very fair and they are still 40-60% lower than the bid I got. I think they are very credible.

They were prompt and professional. Very responsive to our requests. All the crews went directly to work and knew what they were doing. They cleaned up afterwards, had a supervisor come back the following day to inspect the work, make sure that it was done correctly and that we were pleased with the work. Absolutely love everything they did and would not hesitate to hire them again.

Very fast once the job started. Called every night to confirm schedule for the next day, so we always felt like we were in the loop. Any snags in the process caused by sub-contractors were quickly and effectively resolved. The quality of the work is very good. It's a well run company. I recommend them and will consider using them again when I have additional work done.

The tear off of the old roof was completed quickly and the clean-up was excellent. The installation of the new roofing and insulation was completed in a timely manner and the crew cleaned up at the end of each day. I have Byers Leaf Guard Gutters and I asked Byers to inspect my gutters after the roof was installed. Byers identified a problem with the way the roof was installed in certain areas and Straight Line corrected the problem immediately. The salesperson for Straight Line kept me informed of the progress of the roof, and was readily available to answer all of my questions. Overall the experience was positive and I would recommend Straight Line for a metal roof.

Straight Line Roofing reroofed our remodeled house in Shingle Springs, CA. Jack Borba the owner was very professional, responsive and knowledgeable. His crew was top notch. They removed the old sheeting and shingle to reveal a completely rotten roof which required an extensive replacement. Jack and his crew did a fantastic job of removing the rotten framing and rebuilding our roof. The entire crew worked long days and was very professional, all the way down to the clean up guy. They picked up their own mess, were efficient with their time and knew exactly what they were doing. I have already recommended them to a friend and will continue to do so.

Overall the work went well.
Description of Work: Based on referrals from family, friends and Angie’s List, 10 roofing companies were interviewed. Straight Line Construction (SLC) was chosen to repair the leaking tile roof. Phil was very punctual and courteous when he arrived to do the estimate. Prior to starting his inspection and assessment I asked if I could use my ladder to observe. He genuinely encouraged me to do so. While looking over the roof he identified several cracked tiles. He carefully raised some tiles and showed me the condition of the areas underneath. He pointed out deteriorated roofing felt, dry rotted plywood roof decking and took many digital photos of the damage. He took measurements of the property before coming inside to talk about his findings. I was impressed when he removed his shoes before entering the house. I very much appreciated the respect that Phil showed to the house, and us by doing this. Phil presented color print outs of the digital photos he had taken of the roof, tiles and damage. He went over the extent of the damage he discovered. He explained that while the lightweight concrete tile itself could last 50 years, the material underneath (the underlayment) has a limited life expectancy. Rain that found its way under the tiles combined with the summer heat together rotted away the roofing felt. The water also pooled behind some of the roofing battens and led to dry rotting of the battens and the plywood decking. He pointed out that one of the front porches had a very low slope. This condition often leads to pooling of water and the subsequent damage to the roofing underlayment. He opined what repairs needed to be done to correct the leaking. He pointed out these corrections which were listed on the written estimate that he printed in his truck before coming to talk with us. He went over the material and labor costs. He covered the issue of finding additional areas affected by dry rot. The roofing crew would point out these conditions to us and call Phil. He, in turn, would contact us before preparing the amended contract which would reflect any and all changes. On the day of the repair work, Brian and Brad arrived on time and went to work straight away. They welcomed my wife to observe them working and ask questions during the repairs. They were thorough and cleaned up afterwards. My wife had some concerns about certain aspects of the job. Phil, when he later came for the final inspection, courteously and thoroughly addressed each of them. Brad returned the very next day to do some minor cosmetic work to address these concerns. Phil, Brad and Brian did great work and we are very happy with the repairs and their work. Their pricing was not the cheapest or the highest. You always get what you pay for. Solid workmanship and excellent customer service come at a requisite cost. I recommend without reservation Phil and Straight Line Construction to anyone needing their services.

Straight Line Roofing & Construction is very popular in the area. I have an acquaintance where they've done a roof for and he was pretty pleased but I found him to be pretty pricey so far and I'm not determined to go with it, it's not the right value point for me. He's a knowledgeable person and he's been in business here for quite a long time. They hold a number of different contractors license. The quality turned out fine but I did think that it was above the market pricing. They were very responsive.

Phil, Arrived on time and had a very pleasant and professional demeanor. His paint quote however, for the exterior of our house was substantially higher than all the other painters we received bids from on Angie's List. We eventually went with a Angie's List painter who was not the cheapest but would use the same paint as Straight Line but for $4,000.00 dollars less!!! It pay's to look around!!!

Prompt and professional estimate and repairs. In one morning, the damaged gutters on two sides of the house were replaced, the dry rot and improper flashing around the fireplace repaired, an old tv antenna removed and the hole patched, flashings sealed, and a new vent for bathroom fan and new sun tunnel skylight installed. Three crews worked at once, one on gutters, one on roof repairs and one on the skylight. I had had a lower estimate from another contractor on the skylight, but wanted one company to do everything on the roof. These guys were great and efficient. I am very pleased with their work, as were my neighbors who watched.

I contacted this company to perform a roof maintenance check/roof cleaning/gutter cleaning. I was told to sign a contract first then they would contact me to schedule. I signed the contract and mailed it back right away in February 2013. When I did not hear anything after one week, I called the company and received a recording. I left a voice mail requesting someone contact me to schedule and to advise if they received my contract. No call back. I waited another week and called again. No call back. Then, about a month later, I received a call advising they were calling to schedule for my roof maintenance. I asked the company why didn't they return my phone calls and was told they call to schedule roof maintenance in March. Since I had hired another company, I requested they cancel the contract. I later received a call from the owner apologizing for being unresponsive to my phone calls and thanking me for letting me know about my experience via Angies list. I give this company credit - instead of ducking from the problem they faced it head on and had a very mature attitude about it. The company wanted to provide a complimentary roof inspection/cleaning right away, but since I had already had the service done by another company, the owner insisted on scheduling for a later date after the leaves had fallen, etc in late December 2013. I scheduled the service.

Four contractors provided bids to replace three skylight covers that were over 30 years old with new, custom sized Velux skylights. The bids varied from $1200 to $2700! and the high and low bids were both from Angie's List contractors. The bidding visit by Straight-Line Construction was very straight-forward, no games or hard sell. However, the measurement was wrong so when the installers showed up, the standard size skylights didn't fit. It was explained that either they would have to spend time modifying the skylight roof mount, or order custom size skylights. Either option would add to the cost, but it was understandable what was going on so I chose they order the correct size skylights. I was initially annoyed that the salesman had not measured correctly to accurately bid the job wondering if there was some kind of bait and switch on the pricing being done where I was given a "low-ball" quote to get the job and then being up-charged to really get the job done. Well, mistakes happen and I still had more confidence in the Straight-Line estimator's approach in measuring than the contractor estimator that didn't even go on the roof at all. I stewed over this and concluded that while the new price quote was much more in cost, this was still mid-range in the quotes I had received and I didn't have much confidence that mis-measuring wouldn't occur if I started over with a new contractor. Also, I could have gone to a home improvement store and purchased their skylights for $300 bucks and messed with the curbing for hours to custom fit their much lower quality skylights myself as a DIY, but I wanted a quality product by certified skylight/roofing contractors so my AARP self wouldn't have to deal with the situation. The subsequent installation of the correct skylights went very fast (less than an hour for all three skylights together) and the result is very attractive, plus no condensation dripping down inside the house anymore! Everyone, sales, office, field install crew, supervisor - were all professional and with good customer service skills. Normally, I don't do reviews and typically reviews are from people UN-Happy about product/service quality and customer service. We subscribed to Angie's List to find out about the good and the bad about contractors, so in keeping with this purpose, it seems only right to share our experience with Straight-Line Construction and their work was excellent and they deserve this review so others can benefit by getting bids from them. "Excellent" says it all. This company is great.
Description of Work: The house had a 2' by 4' skylight in the family room, and a 2' by 2' skylight in the hall bathroom and the master bath. The house is a flat tar and gravel roof with the skylights mounted on "curbs" and the original skylight material consisted of a sheet of fiberglasss with no energy efficiency value at all. The old skylight material was yellowed and on cold mornings, condensate would drip down from one of them. The work involved replacement with a Velux brand skylight that I specified due to this brand's quality. Because I insisted on Velux, this resulted in the bids being "apples to apples". One contractor's salesman measured the skylight size from inside the house and said their "rules" prevented them from going on the roof to examine the old skylight, the curbing, etc. Straight-line construction's estimator went onto the roof to examine and measure to prepare the bid. While the Straight-Line Construction wasn't the lowest bid, they were the most responsive and professional compared to the low bid. This mattered to me. The only problem that occurred with Straight-Line is that when the installation crew (2 guys) arrived, they determined the "standard" size skylights they had were not the correct size. They called in the correct measurements and I was immediately contacted with the choice of either having the crew modify the curbing to install the standard size skylights they had or order custom size skylights, both at an added cost. I have about 8 years more life in this existing roof so I didn't want any fiddling done with the curbing so I ordered the custom sized skylights. When the custom sized Velux skylights arrived, the field supervisor came out himself and dropped them in-place in less than an hour. These guys know what they are doing. The new skylights look beautiful and provide significantly more light into the house....with no condensation occuring any more. In the overall, of the four contractors I had bid on the work, three of the four seemed to really have sales staff aware of the Velux products, only two really seemed to know roofing and skylights, two of the four were very professional, responsive and Straight-Line Construction was the best over-all with their installation proving that fact. My second choice of contractors was in the same price range as the final price for Straight-Line, but I think Straight-Line is the best choice where both sales and install staff understood the Velux skylights, Shortly after the job was done, I received a bill in the mail which I paid by credit card by calling the office. Again the phone call was professionally handled.

The job took two days. The men arrived in the morning to tear out the old wood steps and put up the frame for the new concrete steps. They hauled off the wood and cleaned up the area before leaving. The next day they arrived really early in the morning to prepare for the concrete to be poured. It was really cold out and they had to wait around for the concrete to dry so they could smooth it out and remove the framing to finish the job. They cleaned up everything before leaving. I am very pleased with the end result.

Had an initial visit with Phil Smith who talked with us about the leakage problems we have experienced. Our roof was metal and at least 20 years old and had ongoing issues over the years. We were tired of our fixes not working and tired of the loudness of rain on our roof. There were also problems with drainage where the carport meets the house -- a design flaw from the 1950s! He spent considerable time on the roof assessing the problem. We liked working with Phil. His estimate for the basic work was comparable to other roofers we talked to; it was the needed additional work that ramped the costs up. The crews came in as scheduled and worked efficiently. They were polite and cleanup was good. The guys who corrected the pitch of the roof over the carport did an excellent job too. The new vents and flashing were painted a nice color to blend with the new roof -- nice touch. Our experience with Straight Line Construction was great. We would recommend them and will keep them in mind for other work.
Description of Work: Installed GAF Timberline composition shingles, Ridgevent, Solar Radiant Barrier, replaced rotted fascia, replaced/added gutters on two sides, raised a low pitched section on the carport roof by 16" to resolve ongoing issues (required additional stucco work and dry rot repair).

.An agent came and gave me an estimate for the work to be done a little expensive but it was needed. I was then called for an appointment and was told it would take 3 days. One day to remove, one day to install the gutters and one day to reinstall the roof tiles. They were true to their words. The workers came early and worked quietly all day. I had to check to see if they were there or not. They finished and cleaned up afterwards. If you didn't know couldn't tell anything was done to the house although my neighbors noticed. I received several compliments about the gutters and how they look as well as the workmanship of the workers.

The project went very smoothly and they finished in 3 days. I was very pleased with the communication between Phil, the workers, and myself.
Description of Work: I called Straight Line and asked for an estimate. Phil scheduled to come out the next day and showed me the products and gave me samples and prepared an estimate. I informed them I would like them to do the work. They took care of getting all the permits and started work soon after the permits were issued. The foreman called the night before and told me they would be arriving at 7 am to tear off the old roofing and do repairs to any of the dry rot they found and install the felt. At the end of the day they cleaned up and said the gutter installer would be coming to install the gutters. He called me that night to advise when he would be here to install the gutters. Afterwards they cleaned up everything. The shingles were delivered that night and the roofer called to let me know they would be here at 7am to install the roof. They finished it the same day and it looks beautiful. Phil came out each day and checked in with me to make sure we were all on the same page. Communication was excellent.

They completed all the work but the gutters in 3 days . . . what a coordinated effort. Very focused and professional. Gutters were added the following week or so. Technician provided a superior gutter arrangement that eliminated water draining into the back porch. Very nice. Working accidently put a foot through the kitchen ceiling. Repair was flawless
Description of Work: SL replaced my roof. A 1450 sq foot home with 3 current roofs over open sheathing had to be removed and replaced. Elected to add insulation, remove/replace gutters, use radiant barrier sheathing, added dryer vent, sealed gaps around the chimney and replaced a flat roof over the porch with TPO. Ridge line venting was used and and soffit vents were added. Original venting and sheathing did not meet current code. Owens Corning OakRidge shingles were used as they were rated much higher by Consumers Reports than others in the same price range. For roofing bids: Do compare venting technology . . . not all venting meets code (look it up . . . Internet info available) Do compare how the venting is implemented . . . too few vents will not meet code Do compare materials . . . some bids contain inferior materials to others Do compare flat roof replacement technologies if you need this . . . broad range of options and prices SL representative was the most thorugh and accessible of all of the bidders on the roof. We worked through technologies, options, cost/benefits. Very happy with the results.

Re-roofing a home is a critically important project in that a roof must be properly installed to protect the integrity of the structure itself. I did a good amount of research before selecting Straight Line as my contractor. From start to finish, I was very impressed with how smoothly and quickly the project went. I firmly believe that Straight Line had their "A Team" assigned to this project. From the tear-off crew (by the way, Straight Line does not subcontract this function out) to the final finishing touches, the company's team work and professionalism was evident throughout the day long re-roofing project. Gilbert, the project manager, was able to answer my questions during the process and provided an explanation of the very minor extra work that was necessary to ensure a top quality outcome. At the end of a long day of hard work by Gilbert and his team, he also took the time to do a final walk through with me. As a double check, about a week or less later, Straight Line also sent their own what I would consider quality control inspector to do an additional followup inspection. He was very pleased with the result and did only some very minor paint touch-up.
Description of Work: Straight Line Construction employees tore off our old composition shingle roof and installed a new quality high definition composition shingle roof. While the old roof was off, the company installed additional attic insulation, bringing it up to new standard. Straight Line also installed a new roof ridge attic venting system, which is much more visually pleasing than our old, outdated attic venting system. As a finishing touch adding character to the overall project, the company installed two sun tunnels, which provide a good amount of natural light to our living room and kitchen.
