This is truly a family-owned business (see company's website for more details). Based on good reviews here, I called company at 4:30 PM on a Friday because sewer suddenly started backing up in bathroom and kitchen sinks (on opposite ends of house). Cathy Anderson, co-owner and office manager, answered phone, said a plumber would arrive within an hour. Plumber arrived in about 30 minutes; he is owners' son-in-law. He was thoroughly professional; I watched him work and he explained what he was doing. Our house is a 1902 Victorian with a lot of old cast iron sewer lines. He carefully assessed the situation, checking the bathroom and kitchen sinks that had backed up, but also noted that sewer had not backed up into bathtub and that toilet flushed normally. He looked for entry points for his snake. He first looked for a sewer line cleanout in front of house, but could not find one. He checked the vent on the roof, but could not use it because all the sewer lines shared a single vent. He brought a large, 100-foot professional snake (~1/2-inch diameter) into the kitchen, took apart the plumbing under the kitchen sink, and tried to snake from there. However, the cast iron sewer line had a 90-degree angle under the sink and another one just under the floor. He could not get the snake past the second 90-degree angle. He then brought in a much smaller 25-foot snake (1/4-inch diameter) powered from an electric drill. He used all 25 feet. He tested both sinks. The kitchen sink drained normally, but the bathroom sink drained a bit slow (but did not back up). He disconnected the pop-up drain stopper assembly, removed the stopper, and fished out a plug of hair (my wife's). He put the stopper assembly back together, and tested the drain; it drained perfectly. He was here about an hour. He was careful not to get anything dirty, and cleaned up completely after himself. Price was very fair, especially after the discount. NOTE: Angie's List has a coupon for 10% off labor charge; however, company's own web site has coupon for 15% off labor. I would use this plumbing service again, and will recommend it to friends and neighbors.

Called Gifford Anderson as they had good reviews here. I was in no hurry, but they offered to install/replace the same day, so I took them up on it. The plumber was waiting for me when I got home from work. Very pleasant and knowledgeable. I wanted the best unit on the market, and they provided. Work was done quickly/professionally. I'll definitely use them next time I have a plumbing need, and will recommend them to friends.

The phone contact was excellent; there was prompt reply and estimate given; work was scheduled and taken care of as planned with no problems. The owner and his partner were friendly and professional.

Friendly and prompt. The plumber performed a simple fix on my faucet but arrived exactly on time and finished within 20 mins. He explained what the problem was and what he was doing to fix it.

They were great to work with! They responded right away and came out. They put off another job for me that wasn’t crucial to get the work competed, which I appreciated!
