His name was Ron Winkleman. They were fine and they did the work that I needed them to do.

The work started on Friday and the old A/C compressor and condenser was removed. Matt, Ron's son, worked the rest of the day preparing for the furnace replacement etc. He is a nice, hardworking young man. On Monday, 7:30AM sharp, a full crew showed up. The old furnace and duct work was removed from the attic. The folding steps to the attic ceiling access had to be removed in order to be able to fit the new larger furnace through the hole. Everything went smooth and and the furnace was hung horizontally. It was cold and they made sure we had heat for the night. Tuesday the A/C installation was finished, however, there was a problem charging it because of a leak in the line somewhere inside the wall. It seemed like a major problem but Mike (the partner) promptly found the leak. He actually crawled into the air intake and found it. We had to remove a wall cabinet and some drywall and the line was welded. Everything was tested and found to work at peak efficiency. The crew was great and they came on time, worked all day and cleared away all tools and debris every night. We highly recommend Westside Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. It has been some time since the work was finished and we are enjoying the new furnace, the easy thermostat and high efficient air cleaning filter a lot.
Description of Work: We needed to replace the furnace and duct work as well as the air conditioner. The A/C never really worked and was too old to be repaired as it used freeon.

Project went picture perfect. Ron, Mike, Matt (and the 2 other guys) were professionals. Incredibly diligent, respectful of home interior, trustworthy and simply poetry in motion. Good team work, hard installation, and literally, flip the switch perfect start up of system. Project was priced fair. I like the equiptment recommended and these guys did a perfect installation.

An extra man was hired to complete the project in 4 days when a cold spell with rain was predicted. I was home from work very sick so the thoughtfulness of completing it sooner was amazing. I also got to see what was involved. All I can say is that Ron Winkelman and Mike Kerr who are partners provided the most amazing service. They provided extensive references that read like a "Who's Who" in Santa Monica. Also, a bid that was comprehensive. There were no surprises. Every aspect of the work was explained to me. Ron and Mike did everything in a timely manner and exceeded my expectations. I had no worries that the project would be done well and it was all A+ work. Also their bid was very competitive. They also will provide service in the future for routine maintenance.
Description of Work: My house was build in 1918 and the existing furnaces were over 30 years old. It was a complicated situation with one of the furnaces on the roof and two in the basement. One furnace would quit working each year for the past 3 years and the final year I had no heat at all because I could not find a heating and air conditioning contractor who could handle the situation or provided any confidence that it would be done well. it included engineering for the new unit on the roof, electrical work to provide for the new furnaces, root hatch to access the second floor, asbestos removal in the basement and cabinetry work for the new return air system.

When we decided to replace a 50 year old furnace and to add air conditioning, we went to Angie's list to find the highest rated contractors in our area. We selected 3 and after interviewing them, we selected Westside. This company was better than excellent, it was outstanding! The owners and crew were very personable, extremely professional, very experienced and well organized. In our initial and subsequent meetings, Ron Winkleman was a good listener and gave us a bid with options for cost and equipment. Before work began, Mr. Winkleman met with us again to be sure we understood what would be done and exactly what the plan was. He answered all questions. When work began, on the date promised, all needed supplies were on site quickly. The old furnace was removed and taken away immediately that first morning. Other supplies appeared on time as the work progressed. After a day's work, everything was tidied up. Each day, everyone showed up on time. The work was completed in four days! Westside fully checked out the systems before leaving and explained to us how the systems worked. After the work was completed, Westside called several times to make sure everything was working well. Westside warranties their work. Westside will visit on a regular basis to change our filter. We look forward to a long and pleasant relationship. We couldn't be more pleased!
Description of Work: Replaced 50 year old cast iron furnace. Installed new gas furnace and slimline 5 ton sound condensor. Removed all existing flexible ductwork. Installed all new R-6 rated silver mylar flexible ductwork. Installed additional supply outlet and enlarged two existing supply air outlets. Installed two zone zoning system. Repaired leaks in ductwork below the house.

Westside Heating and Air conditioning was contracted to put in central air and heating in our remodeled 1948 home. We had several heating and air contractors come out to estimate and were impressed not only by the time Ron Winkelman took to show us options that would work with our home but the estimate was comparable or even lower than others. The work was done in a timely manner and professionalism was evident throughout the entire job. We are very please with our new systems and even had Westside return to do additional work on a Zone System. Calls are quickly returned and even when we had to have warranty work done it was completed in a timely manner. We have recommended Westside Heating and Air Conditioning to our friends and they were all pleased with the efficiency and quality of work.

Exceeded my expectations. We had several bids and I chose Westside AC because Ron was so knowlegable and dealt with quality equipment. We checked his references that included one of Los Angeles' largest real estate developers. I was able to verify that person's satisfaction with Westside as I do work for one of the developer's best friend. Their work was extremely clean, the workers were superb. I have had a lung illness (hypersensitivity pneumonitis) which may have been caused by my previous HVAC guy trying to be cheap and pulling air into the house from the attic. My health is far more valuable than the cost of a new air conditioning system. Our new system expanded 2 zones to 7 zones and includes a top quality air filtration system. The new condensers hardly make any noise at all, certainly compared to what previously existed. I can't recommend these guys enough!

Ron arrived a few minutes early. He looked at the job of moving the air conditioning line and we discussed two ways to move this line. He recommended the least intrusive way to move the ac line a few inches below where it was originally and reattached it to the studs in the wall. This line is approximately 18 feet long.
Description of Work: We are getting estimates for new cabinets in our garage. An Air conditioning line needed to be moved before designing cabinets in our garage. Ron, from Westside Heating and Cooling ,came out the day I called and moved this cooling line. This worked out well because the person from the cabinet shop was here to complete her lay-out of the cabinets a few hours after Ron completed his work..Westside Heating and Cooling did a good job.. There was no charge because Ron installed the entire heating, cooling system, and ducts, including the 18 foot ac line a few years ago.

I needed to replace my 25 year-old heater when it stopped working. I got several bids and after asking enough questions about the work needed to be done and heaters in general, I realized that most of the bids were in the ball-park money wise. I chose Westside Heating and Air Conditioning for two reasons ~ 1. The owner of the company, Ron Winkelman, came to my house and took the time to explain completely how the installation process would be done. He answered my many questions so that I could understand everything and be comfortable with my decision. He was thorough and knew what he was talking about. 2. The fact that his company is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau (which I check whenever making decisions involving who I deal with!) The first day he sent out an employee to start the removal of most of the old system and followed up on the second day with a full crew including his partner, Mike Kerr, to install the new heater and ductwork. Everyone was very professional and I hardly knew that they were working in my home to complete the job. They were courteous, efficient and knowledgeable in every aspect. When the job was done, they took the time to show me how to operate the new system. They cleaned up and removed all of the remnants of the old system. The new heater has worked great throughout the winter and was much quieter than the old system which was an unexpected bonus! Plus, they had included a great new air filter that keeps the house much "fresher". What a great experience! I should have done this years ago. Thank You Westside!

My experience was great. Months later, I had to call the office to get the manufacturer documentation for my units to claim a tax credit. Kathy was very helpful and I got what I needed. It is not easy for me to spend this kind of money, but I have been very satisfied with my purchase and with the customer service. THANKS!
Description of Work: I admit that I do not know anything about heating and air conditioning so please excuse my layman descriptions. I moved into my older home several years ago and the heating and air conditioning units were functional but over 10 years old and very expensive to run. I wanted to upgrade but had no idea what I needed. I knew I wanted something more energy efficient and since my son and I have allergy issues, air quality was also something that was very important. Ron understood my budget and took the time to explain all my options. He was helpful and respectful. I ended up purchasing a heater, air conditioning unit and programmable thermostat. The job took 2 days, no problems, no surprises. I have now been through 2 summers with significantly lower cooling costs and I am always surprised how quiet the system is. The compressor is just feet from my bedroom and I can barely hear it.

Fantastic! I got a great deal because of the slow down in the economy, and I'm amazed by the top end Heater and Air Conditioning that now reside at my house. The 28 year old energy siphon is now gone, and I have a perfectly running system just before the summer heat of LA kicks in. Westside was responsive, gave great quotes (compared with Kahn) , turned around the job quickly and cleanly. Top notch marks on all aspects. I was most impressed by how clean my house was upon returning home. All prior contractors would leave huge amounts of soot, dust or construction mess. Not Westside Heating. The telltale answer on how well this project went: My pregnant wife was happy. 'Nuf said.
Description of Work: Westside Heating fully replaced my heating and air conditioning and installed a cost saving/energy device that can chop my utility bills by allowing bi-level controls. They fully replaced the air ducts and even helped fix some problem areas that the old air conditioning was hiding.

They came out to service our house within days of our phone call. They were thorough, clean, and timely. They did our system in less than 2 days, cleaned up after themselves, were a pleasure to be around, worked round the clock to accommodate my needs having a toddler in the house at all times. My only regret is that I didn't call them sooner...or have them install the entire system from the get go. I will be referring them business for a long time to come.
Description of Work: We remodeled our house about a year and a half ago, installing a completely new HVAC system. We have been having many problems with our new system, ie not heating or cooling property, thermostat always off, very loud, etc. We called our contractor to bring the A/C installer out and he actually made the system worse: louder, installed 4 return air vents in our gorgeous new hardwood floors, etc. We decided it was time to take matters into our own hands and called Ron at Westside Heating and Air. Boy had we wished we called him sooner. He was the best. He fixed our compromised duct and our system works so much more efficiently and is quiet as a mouse.

The work was done promply and neatly. Small construction obstacles were taken care of without cost issues. The City of Inglewood inspector approved the work and had no issues. He said the work looked good.
Description of Work: Remove and dispose of existing forced air heating unit and duct work in the attic. Add new Trane heating and air conditioning units in the attic and ac condenser outside the home. The work included new R-6 rated silver mylar flexible ductwork, new 5" thick high efficiency whole house air filter system, an oversized cooling cooling coil to improve ac performance, new thermostat, and new registers throughout the home.

They showed up on time every day until the work was done. Phone calls to the main office were returned in a timely manner, questions answered whenever I had them. They went above and beyond what they promised, as well. For instance, when they realized the new larger condenser I purchased wouldn't fit on the small stand attached to the side of my house, they went ahead and poured a new concrete base for the unit. And when the install took a day longer than they had planned, instead of rushing the job they just came back the next day to finish up the detail work. Small company, and all the principals were involved in the process, so they made sure the work was up to highest standard. New system works like a dream. Over 16 SEER, so very energy efficient, so much quieter than my last system, and instead of keeping the a/c cranked all day to keep my poorly insulated house moderately warm (as opposed to sweltering hot), I know have to turn the new system down so avoid freezing us all out. Spectacular!
Description of Work: Needed to remove my old central air system and install a new one (including new furnace). Old system was improperly installed long before I bought the house, and it barely worked. We had leaky ducts, restricted airflow in several key spots, all sorts of problems. Needed massive overhaul, which they did top to bottom.

The heating doesn't work in the two rooms farthest from the heating unit. The company had nothing but lame excuses about how the unit "senses" where the heat needs to go and that you may not feel it at the vent. Huh? I felt two cold rooms! Still, I accepted that maybe it was just 'me.' Two years later we went to have central air conditioning installed in our 'plug and play' heating system. Westside gave us a quote of $9,000 for A/C. At the time of our remodel they quoted us an additional $4000 to add A/C. What was the extra $5000 for two years later? Inflation? Wow! We went with Sears to install our new A/C and the price was half that of Westside. It was also then that we discovered in our new attic that the reason we don't have heat to our two front rooms is because the ducts were split off a central duct instead of having there own direct source to the rooms......CHEAP......tacky... shoddy work. Sears removed the split ducts and added direct ducts to those rooms and now there is actually air flowing! I would not recommend this company for any type of heating or air. They are dishonest in their word and their work.

Response from Westside Heating & Air Conditioning
To: Angie's List and its readers This letter is in response to the report submitted to Angie's List regarding Westside Heating and Air Conditioning by the member on 8/13/08. Westside would first like to point out that this submission came almost two years after we did this job in 2006. Westside was not even made aware of this matter until September 11, 2009 by a prospective customer. Westside totally disagrees with the characterization, information, and portrayal of the conduct of Westside given by the member regarding the quality of our work, our professionalism, and our integrity on the job. Since a reader may never feel sure in determining which party is accurately describing the situation, Westside suggests that any interested person contact the following people and check us out. Culver City - Senior Inspector Carlos Lugo 310-253-5800 Culver City - Mechanical Inspector Sam Shu 310-253-5800 Nagy Constuction - General Contractor Thomas Nagy 310-391-5459 Better Business Bureau - BBB 909-825-7280 This first three people listed were the project's inspectors and general contractor. Again, Westside respectfully disagrees with the member's remarks. As a company whose focus is on customer satisfaction, we are disappointed that this did not occur. Thank You for considering Westside Heating and Air Conditioning. Sincerely, Ron Winkelman and Mike Kerr

I appreciate the fact that I don't have to worry about the heating because once a year they just call and tell me that they need to check my system. I like that they are the ones who keep track and remind me when the service is due. I pay every time they come.
Description of Work: They installed the heating unit a long time ago and they come every year for the check up service that consists mainly in changing the filters. It's a forced air system and heats our 3000 square feet home.
