Westside Heating & Air Conditioning

This is the most professional companyI have ever dealt with. Ron, the business owner, performed all of the pre-installation work himself. My new furnace was going into a very tight space. So several detailed measurements were required. Mike and Matt were my installation team. As former military, I understand the importance of teamwork. These guys are not only a team, it is like there is only only person doing the work. Each guy anticipates the other guy's needs and is ready with the next installation step instantly. What a great job. Do not buy from anyone else.

After two years of costly repairs on a 15-year-old HVAC system, I asked the technician what I should do. After he suggested replacing the entire system, I got bids from three companies --- two of which had the highest HVAC installer ratings on Angie's list and the third being the company who installed the original system. Though all took time carefully going through the house and existing system, I was most impressed with Westside and Ron's solid understanding of exactly what was required to best heat/cool the house considering its unique layout and challenges. Additionally Westside submitted the most comprehensive written proposal without attaching a long list of addenda suggesting costly upgrades to the proposed system. After carefully reviewing the bids I chose Westside. Though not the least expensive, the bid most closely coincided with what I desired in the way of efficiency and functionality. In the midst of an unusual heatwave, I thought scheduling would be a problem. On the contrary, Ron was able to arrange a two-day installation window the next week. The installation was impeccably timed with the large HVAC units, crane, etc. being delivered to the house throughout the day. Mike, Matt, Jay and Alex did the installation in record time, carefully making sure that there was no dust or debris in the house. They also took time to answer questions and take requests, quickly following up on each. Though originally scheduled to take two and a half days, the install was completed in a day and a half. After the install Ron and Mike continued to check in to see if I was pleased with how the system was functioning. When I asked that a damper be installed to one area of the house Westside scheduled it for the very same day and completed it within 30 minutes. These guys are great; I'm confident they'll do whatever?s necessary to assure the system will continue to function as I'd like.

I've worked with many people on Angie's List. I've worked with concrete contractors, various handymen, done a complete pool remodel, kitchen work, hired multiple plumbers, gardeners, just to name a few. So this experience has been unusually positive. Our home is in Glendale, which they serviced from Santa Monica. I would probably have to say that these folks are one of the two best companies I've worked with. I haven't seen other reviews quite as strong as theirs, and it actually proved to be true. I'm always slightly skeptical, but this went extremely well. I am also not the kind of client that gives everyone positive reviews. I think I'm particular, and that's represented by the fact that I got multiple estimates, and it took me almost a year to decide who I would go with. I was really concerned about budget, and I told them what I wanted to stay within a certain ballpark figure. They were able to accommodate that. My budget was fairly reasonable, but they really helped walk me through my options with what I could afford. In terms of communication and working in a timely manner, nobody has been better than these guys. One of my issues was that I had to leave town for almost a month, but needed the work done, so they were able to work on my house while I was gone and keep me completely posted. I received phone calls every day, and they answered every single question I had. And I had lots of them. Their office manager, John, is the first person I talked to, and wow can you really get a more friendly guy? He spoke patiently and thoroughly, and also knew enough about the issues at hand that he could give me some general ideas before I talked to Ron and Mike who were the ones who oversaw all the work. Those two were really great to work with. My wife told me they were some of the only people we've worked with who were diligent about cleaning up the house thoroughly every day that they finished work. I don't know what it is, but most people don't. Or at least not in a way that doesn't require me to follow up and clean up more. It really matters when you've got new wood floors and a young toddler who runs around the house putting anything she finds in her mouth. The unit has done everything we wanted it to. The furnace was replaced in the attic, and the compressor outside. They moved the compressor location by a few feet and accommodated that. Everything was set up and has worked as we would have hoped. The real test came today when I got word from our tenants (we are renting the house this year) that the air conditioner just went out unexpectedly. This is about 3 months after the install. I called up John and told him what was up. He made no promises, but said they would do what they could, despite the fact that it's a heat wave and they are super busy. I got a call from my property manager who said that they went out in three hours and took care of it. It was a very minor issue somehow a shut off switch was triggered to the unit for whatever reason but they got it done. I don't know what else to say about Westside, except to say again that they (along with our plumber) are the best people we've worked with on Angie's List. I had estimates from three of the other best HVAC companies on Angie's List in our area. Many of them were pretty good. But none of them impressed me in the way that Westside did. I am so glad I went with them, both in terms of quality and budget. I can tell that they really appreciate my business, and that means a lot. They know that this is a depressed economy, and every dollar we spend really matters. Many other business want to get in and get out, and take a check. I've run my own business, and I know it takes the extra effort (especially when you're busy) to make your clients feel appreciated. I honestly would be shocked if any reasonable person (there are many unreasonable clients out there) didn't have a great experience with the guys at Westside. They are professional, likable, communicative, and most of all trustworthy. I plan on keeping their contact info and work with them in the future as other needs turn up.

We can say without question that we would recommend Westside to family and friends. We had shopped a handful of contractors (primarily using Angie's List), receiving several verbal quotes, and 2 onsite quotes (Westside and another vendor). What differentiated Westside from their competitors in our opinion is that they demonstrate a great deal of professionalism and expertise in a friendly and non-pushy manner, and offer this at a very competitive price. In addition, they had an impressive reference base (they had installed a/c in a number of homes in our local area, with references that we could check). At the end of the day after we had vetted the competition, we felt that their quote represented the best service and price the market offered. And when our new A/C / Heater installation was completed, we felt, without question, that we had made the right decision. But what is very noteworthy of the actual installation experience is there extra effort to accommodate our need to have our A/C installed before our daughter's birthday. We had contacted Westside during the middle of a heatwave, and so while deluged with orders, they found they could only install right up to the day of the birthday (it is a 2 1/3 day installation). So in order to help get the installation done earlier, yet still honor their existing commitments, they broke up the installation over the week (meaning they used a one day window in the middle of installations to start our installation). What is also noteworthy, and something that is also a very important consideration for us in recommending Westside, is how they go about their installation. They are mindful of the house condition (kept our house clean), and they are courteous and friendly and we felt very comfortable with them in our home. For these reasons, we would without question recommend Westside to everyone, especially to family and friends.

I could not be any happier in the quality and outcome of our service call. Our service was handled by Mike, a co-owner of the company. Mike was efficient, took the necessary time to troubleshoot our HVAC system, and spent time carefully explaining the situation. What I appreciated most was that Mike made the best use of my money – for example, he figured out how to use standard dry replacement filters (to replace our cumbersome electrostatic filter) rather than paying extra for custom ordered versions. In addition, he developed a well-thought-out troubleshooting approach that ultimately proved successful. With other vendors, I felt like I was paying extra for their on-the-job training – not so with Mike – he knows what to do and will not waste your time or money. He was tidy, efficient, and very professional. I am now using this company for my annual maintenance and all future repairs/servicing of our home HVAC system.

Even before I was an Angie's List member, I was impressed with the way Westside Heating & Air Conditioning did business. Ron (owner/estimates), Mike (owner/installation) and Cathy and John (office) instill confidence that they know what to do and how to do it. Both my impression and confidence turned out to be correct.

They did a great job. Matt, the technician, did a thorough inspection, and explained clearly why he thought the system was still in good shape. He did not try to sell me on the idea that, just because the system is getting old, it should be replaced. He explained a lot about different filter performance issues, and crawled around under my home's very shallow crawl space to seal any gaps in the air intake system. He also took measurements of the metal filters for our electronic air cleaner unit, so that he could search out a supplier for me.That same day I got a call from the company (I think it might have been from the owner, himself) with cost estimates and advice on searching for cheaper filters online. You don't get that often.I understand that Westside is a small company focused primarily on system installations, yet they were willing to come out and do this small job for me in a thorough, professional, and courteous manner. I appreciate their dedication to customer service, and wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future.

wow, we called early this morning, spoke to Ron. He called Mike and within 10 minutes we had an appointment set up for the late morning! Mike showed up on time, was professional, repaired the problem, and did not sell us anything we didn't need (as our last repairman did). He cleaned and updated a few things since it had been a while since our last service. He left us with good tips for ongoing maintenance also.AND, we felt the bill was very reasonable.

Initial Inspection & Estimate: With the specific data (manufacturer, model numbers, btu ratings) that I gave Ron, because of his expertise and experience, he was able to determine the make and model numbers of the heaters that would be the best replacements without inspecting my heaters. He was able to give me a firm estimate for material and labor to replace the heaters just based on the data on my old heaters. Installation: Upon giving Ron the go-ahead with the project, Mike came to the condo to look over the job. The next morning, Mike and Matt showed up at my condo at the scheduled time. Approximately three hours later, the heaters were installed, their operation checked and everything cleaned and hauled away, Recommendation: If you have a wall heater that you would like replaced, I recommend without any reservation or hesitation, Westside Heating and Air Conditioning to do the job for you.

Initial inspection & estimateRon did a thorough inspection of our HVAC system, not just the unit, but how it was affixed to the roof; he also checked the vents in the condo. After agreeing that fixing the 28-year-old unit was not a good idea, we asked Ron to estimate the replacement costs. Within 24 hours of our initial call we had an estimate that included "high, medium, and low" options for the HVAC unit (we chose the middle one). The work was scheduled within the week, which was great since summer in LA without A/C is no fun. InstallationRon's crew showed up exactly on time and got to work right away. The entire job took about five hours; amazingly it took only 15 minutes for the crane work (set up, remove the old unit, and hoist the new unit up four stories). When the work was done, the crew walked me through everything they did (see above for details). They were also careful to remove every piece of debris on the roof. Unfortunately my really slick thermostat could not be used with the new system (wrong number of wires?). But the new controller works great, too.

Westside Heating & Air Conditioning came to give us an estimate to fix our HVAC. Our system was a complete disaster. The furnace was sitting on the ground underneath the house, ductwork was also on the ground and was the wrong size, compressor was old and oversized. Mike came out initially and explained all the problems and possible solutions. He was very knowledgable and answered all our questions. When it came time to do the work, they were very thorough and did the work as quickly as possible to avoid us being without A/C for too long. (We have a 7 month old at home) The crew cleaned up every night before they went home and were very courteous, professional and friendly. When you have to spend this amount of money replacing your entire system, you want to feel like you're getting a good deal and that it's going to get done correctly. I was confident from day one that we choose the right company. Westside Heating & Air Conditioning has lots of experience and I knew they would get the job done right and for the right price. They followed up with us a few days after the install to make sure everything was working properly and I know I can count on them should we need them in the future.

Everything went smoothly. Ron answered all of my questions, and they were able to install the system within a couple days of me agreeing to their proposal. Do take the time to think through your needs and how you will use your system and don't be afraid to ask questions.

They were on time and intelligent. I was having a problem with the thermostat and they responded right away. The heating unit works really well. It took them a few days to finish the project but it was well worth it in the end.

Ron/Mike were great. They came out and assessed the situation at my house. The last contractor had made a mess of the system and the equipment was old and needed to be replaced. They designed a great system, explained everything, answered my questions, were neat, professional, and did a world class job. I would recommend them to anyone.

I have a small business and home system that Westside Heating and Air designed, built and continues to maintain. I was a general contractor for about 15 years and for 12 of those years I used them on every project that required HVAC work, whether it was existing or complete new systems. They were by far my most reliable sub. Their care and professionalism are unmatched! To this day I still refer them to anybody I can.

Their service was prompt, friendly, professional. Very pleasant to work with; cleaned up thoroughly; gave me clear instructions for maintenance. The office was very responsive to telephone calls. I can't think of any way in which their service could have been improved. And so far, I'm very pleased with the furnace, too. . .a Trane model.

Having work done by these people is a dream---1st, they know what they are doing--2nd, they lay it all out in a proposal with options so you choose how much you want to do--they were very professional and friendly--all work was done when it was supposed to be done and to the penny described in our contract--we needed some extra work done because the original installation a long time ago was wrong but this was done quickly and economically-- All areas were spotless when they finished and a nice follow up a few days after asking if all was working (it was perfectly) and to call if we ever had a any questions. If you are going to do some heating or AC work in your home--you have to get a proposal from Westside--they did not get all the Angie awards for no reason

We started by calling four local contractors for bids. We received three bids and selected Westside because they did not try to up-sale the job (i.e. sell us things we did not need). They also promised to have one of the owners of the business on the job site at all times. We thought this was a real plus as they would have a decision maker on site if something needed to change. Fortunately the job went exactly as planned. They set up a time, said it would take two days and called us the night prior to confirm. They then showed up on time with all the right equipment and started work immediately. There were three men on the job and they completed everything within the two-day window as promised. When the job was finished they did a thorough clean-up before they left.

We worked with Ron at Westside to get the heat pump functional and to provide a quotation on the system replacement since it is over 30 years old. Westside was a pleasure to work with on this issue. They are straightforward and open about their service and quotation. Ron provided various options and manufacturers. I will use them when I replace my whole system. Regarding the unit repair - the service was very prompt and the repair was performed quickly.

The service and professionalism of Ron and team was excellent from start to finish. Ron made several trips himself to my house to go over options, answer all of my many many questions, provide me with manufacture literature and specs, and submit a quote for each option discussed. Ron's bid was the lowest of three bids but this was not the #1 deciding factor for me. It was Ron's common sense and practical approach to finding the optimal solution for the job. Also, he really listened to what I wanted to accomplish and did not try to oversell me on additional work and accessories, which was all too obvious with the other two bidders. The installation was flawless and Ron's team even went the extra mile to improve the airflow through some of the ducts - something that I had not discussed with Ron and was not in the scope of work. They also made a follow up visit the day after the installation to make a correction on the thermostat programming - purely voluntary on their part and not in response to any request from me. This further validated their superb attention to detail and quality of work product. I highly recommend them.

I would use Westside Heating & A/C over and over again and recommend them to anyone. My mother is 86 years old and was having problems with her pilot light going out. I went on Angies list and chose Westside Heating & A/C to go and see what was causing the problem. Of course the system was over 30 years old and needed replaced. Westside Heating & A/C gave her an excellent price, they installed the next day, they were extremely professional, polite, and very clean. As a matter of fact they were so good my mother took a nap through the entire process and woke up after they were finished. Very good company you will not go wrong calling them.
